    I don't know if it is of any value to your viewers or not, but I have the perspective of owning the 2023 CX-50 Premium Plus, and the new 2024 (exact same package, and even color) turbo. The difference is noticable. I loved my first iteration, but I longed for the turbo - so I traded in for the new 2024 turbo. I have owned more cars than I can remember, and I can say with confidence, that the Mazda 2024 CX-50 premium plus turbo is hands-down the best car you can buy! Spend all you want, but you will not find a better vehicle. I absolutely love it!

      How would you describe the ride quality in the 2024?

      @@bradh6185 Hi Brad. For me personally, I love the ride of the CX-50. There is a noticable difference between our 2023 and the 2024. The 24 is a little crisper and slightly more precise. However, the difference is not so big that it would be a game changer in itself. If we go anywhere outside our town (there are no traffic lights anywhere in our county), then we are driving on two lane wide open country roads with rolly polly hills and some sharp curves. This Mazda is an absolute joy to drive in this kind of country, especially with the turbo. We live at 7100 ft. and this car performs awesome! Hope that helps.

    I have the 2023 Plus version...the key point differences are the tampers and the electronic steering assist on the 2024. However, last week I was in a terrible thunderstorm while driving my CX-50. I must say, the tighter steering in the 2023 model was greatly appreciated on the drenched roads. I felt like I had complete control and the car didn't do any drifting. Haven't driven a 2024 though. The point is...23 isn't bad would love to feel the difference.

    Such a sharp vehicle. That 2.5t is not "fast" but is quick enough and is effortless in how it moves Mazda's vehicles around. While the six speed works okay, I think there is some torque management going on to save the trans on hard launches. Would love to see a modern 8 speed with more torque capacity and tighter gear spacing. Zoom Zoom indeed.

    • @patrickgagnon9662

      More torque you ask for in a compact SUV ....320 is not enough ....what in it's class comes close in torque

    • @stacyholt6529
      @stacyholt6529 11 місяців тому

      @@patrickgagnon9662 no mistake, the torque is excellent. But I believe in an effort to keep the old Ford based 6 speed auto in one piece, they employ torque management, limiting torque in at least the first gear ratio, on foot in the carpet launches. Great engine performance, just personally feel the old trans and it's limitations nay hold it back a bit. Drive this combo with half a brain and it's a pleasure, with nice punch for passing and smooth shifts.

    • @torqueguy1

      I thought the same thing but i put in premium because its cleaner for the gdi. I also add lucas octane boost every other gas fill. Clean turbos are happy turbos. Remember to always let turbos idle for a minute before you shut down and don’t stomp the throttle until the car is warmed. Let that nice oil lube up the turbo bearings. Also try to change oil every 5k. The turbo is lubed with the same oil and if the oil is dirty, the turbo rod will have contact with bearings. Pardon the lecture but I want to insure no turbos are harmed. Boomer Stoners rule

    • @JordieG8
      @JordieG8 Рік тому

      @@torqueguy1 you don’t need to let the engine idle before shutting the engine off. It’s not 1980. Not issue with anything else you said… Well maybe the octane boost. Zero need.

      Is there a way to completely disable the i-Stop without having to push the button every time you start the engine? Also, do the buttons on the console and lower dash light up when the lights are on?

  • @photog1529
    @photog1529 10 місяців тому +1

    I was considering the Meridian model, but now having second thoughts. Mazda doesn't have an option for the Bose system in the Meridian and other shortcomings available in the Turbo Premium. I currently have a 2014 Mazda 6, and two things really bug me about it. First, the window switches don't light up and second, when you have an incoming telephone call the display does not identify the caller, even if the caller is in your contact list. Little things like this are a PITA to me. Hopefully for nearly $45k Mazda has 'fixed' these things. So far, I've had three Mazdas that have totaled 500k miles between them (1979 RX-7, 2003 3, 2014 6). Extremely reliable with only a failed A/C compressor on the 3. Would like to stick with Mazda but that will depend on the convenience factors at this point. i-Stop is a disappointment, though...but not as bad as cylinder deactivation on the base engine.

    • @gailenrique2804
      @gailenrique2804 9 місяців тому +2

      The US turbo meridian is really an "appearance" package of the base Turbo.... for the additional cost, along with special hood decals, you get 18" wheels with all-terrain falcon tires instead of the 20" wheels on the base Turbo. Bose only comes on 4 of the 8 models of the cx-50.
      As for the window switches, they do light up at night... as well as the door lock switch. For "caller ID" outside of Apple carplay/android auto.... in the mazda homescreen, only numbers will show up.
      The i-stop, along with cylinder deactivation, are both designed to save on fuel economy. Cylinder deactivation, found only on non-turbo models, saves fuel by cutting off 2 cylinders as needed and is seamless in operation as you cruise on the highway. You can see how it works in the infotainment system under information and fuel economy and look for cylinder deactivation. Istop, on the Turbo models, has an off switch but does not stay off permanently, so each time you start the car, you'll have to turn istop off. To see how istop functions, go into information, fuel economy, and look for the istop tab.
      Mazda has videos on how cylinder deactivation works on youtube if you look it up. @jss of Mitchell mazda has posted a video on youtube about how cylinder deactivation works also.

      @@gailenrique2804 Thanks for the information. I ordered the turbo premium model. I may consider changing out the 20" wheels and tires for 18" and more sidewall when the tires need replacement. But I just can't see Mazda advertising the CX-50 as off-road capable when it doesn't come equipped with any skid plates.

    I just recently bought a 2024 CX-50.
    In general, I'm loving it.
    However, I can't help but think that the central control area/console was designed by fools.
    Two main things stand out:
    1) The cup holders are stupidly placed and too small. The circumference doesn't support larger cups or water bottles. Even worse, they are located so far forward that anything larger than a 12 ounce soda can comes into conflict with the dash and climate controls above it. Just 2 or 3 inches back would make this infinitely more usable. It clearly seems that this was an afterthought or just something where they said, "Cram it in anywhere."
    2) The wireless charging pad is poorly placed and poorly designed. The pad is located so far back and tucked under the storage console that it's hard to see. What's FAAAR worse is that it has very limited functionality. If I try to use it to charge my phone I get a message "Wireless charging not available." I asked the dealership about it and they said that it appeared to be a size issue (though a Google Pixel 6 Pro is NOTTTT an overly large phone by today's standards. I then looked in the user's manual. It says the phone must be Qi compatible at under a certain voltage (which it is). However, then there's a little note that says it may not work if, "The mobile device is placed in a position extremely deviating from the center of the charging area." What this REALLY means is the charging pad is so poorly designed/sized that it will only work with a very limited range of phones. Since this was one of the main reasons I went up to the premium trip, this really pisses me off. I frankly feel like I've been the victim of a bait-and-switch -- they claim they have a feature (semi-universal wireless charging) which they do not.
    So, in general, a nice car, but some really stupid things:
