I beat Cranky's challenge! The Nintendo coin appears at 3:11, and the Rareware coin appears at 10:28. Pretty neat little hidden object challenge there, Jiggy!
I am convinced Lanky's nose is a clown nose. As a kid I always kind of saw him as a clown, being able to do handstands, making funny hoopla noises and funny faces, and his long arms giving him a comical look overall (especially in the K Rool fight where his arms comically grow even longer)
Great video! Donkey Kong 64 was one of many N64 classics I enjoyed as a kid. 3:52 I thought the Kong face buttons revealed to K. Rool all of the Kongs that were free, which is why at the end of a normal playthrough you see all the Kongs' faces appear.
But all the Kong Faces appear in the cutscenes as well, so they don't represent the Kongs that have been freed. You see them in the background in the intro, can get a glimpse during entrance to Jungle Japes. But when you've defeated the Armydillo the first time, and it comes to report to K. Rool, the camera actually zooms in onto the face buttons, and you see all of them there, regardless of who's been freed. But I'm curious. Since the faces are layered on top of the "buttons", and apparently can decide to not show up, and / or show up in a different order during a randomizer, hints that there is some flags internaly in memory, stating wether or not to show the faces, and in wich order. Most likely, this was a cut mechanic, and we cannot access this feature without hacking.
As for the faces on the randomizer. It is built with the faces in the wall with who is required to beat the boss. It's a hint of sorts. Not a base game thing, just a randomizer quality of life.
1:33 In certain levels of DKC2 and DKC3, there's some animal buddy barrels that transform the Kongs instead of having the mounting option. Though they couldn't include riding animal buddies in DK64, the transforming idea is still a throwback to the originals
Oh dang it, the animal crates segment really was almost exactly like the comment I made about them in the last Mysteries video! The fact that our brains work so much alike is definitely worthy of a sub and deep dive into the archives.
So, the Panther King was betrayed because he treated the Doctor so badly. Even literally tearing off the Doctor's legs for 'failing him" at one point. If K.Rool was worried about being betrayed by the Weasel, then I have to assume that K.Rool was also treating him just as badly.
When I was 7 I noticed also the disappearing tree but I thought: - Of course, since Chunky is huge, the tree in perspective is so small that you don't see it
Hell yeah! Another Jiggylookback DK64 video! 9:30 It might be possible that the Klaptraps are so big because crocodiles in real life don't stop growing. When they die, it's because they can't eat enough to sustain their large bodies but if they could, they'd keep getting bigger. If there's one mystery I am curious about, who is the "GET OUT!" guy? Is he a Kremling too? Where is he hiding? He's clearly a great shot, I'd imagine that he'd be hired more by K. Rool based on his skills but we don't see him. So if he's not showing up in other games then he must not work for K. Rool, so who does he work for? If he was only in Angry Aztec then it could be that he's protecting the treasure, but that doesn't explain the Diddy cabin in Crystal Caves. He shoots you there if you don't defeat the enemies in time (I always struggled with that one as a kid). So, who is he? Why is he?
Hi, developer of the randomizer responding to the face buttons/disco chunky sections (as the guy who coded this hint in particular). The randomizer allows you to pick the length of your K Rool fight and will choose x amount of phases from the K Rool fight to place you against. There's no rules dictating what phases can be in or not. As for the faces, as someone else said in the comments, it's just meant as a hint. The vanilla game does not have this functionality in, and those textures are static elements of the map file. As for disco chunky (also coded this part in the randomizer), it's a model swap with a couple code tweaks. Unlike regular Chunky, disco chunky lacks a secondary model for his instrument. We had to create a secondary model ourselves to code this in. I've taken a deep dive through the code and seen no references to being able to change Chunky's default model at all to disco chunky in the vanilla game.
I can explain the Lanky and Chunky Faces in Hideout Helm! In the Randomizer, you can choose how many phases that you want to fight King K. Rool, with the minimum of 1 and maximum of 5. Your seed had two phases with Lanky and Chunky, so that's who the Hideout Helm buttons showed.
The wall of faces one is trippy! I wonder if at some point in development, there was going to be some kind of system where you could 'lose' Kongs along the way, and the wall would change to display which kongs were still left to fight K Rool? Just a theory. Great video guys!!
Happy Anniversary to my favorite game! Loved the video! And timestamps for coin: Nintendo coin at 3:10. No luck with the Rare coin 😅 All good though! Thank you for all you do! Here's to hoping we get an all new 3D DK adventure with even more mysteries to enjoy ^-^
I think the reason Lanky has a red nose is because, like Rudolph, it would be the cause of members of his tribe excluding him And as you said yourself, it reminds us of a clown nose, because Lanky is a funny monke I really like the part about Creepy Castle!
The beaver bother comment is so accurate! 😂 Also, I REALLY like the Creepy Castle with K. Rool’s ancestor theory! I feel like that could definitely be further investigated into its own video! Happy 25 years DK64, a phenomenal game near and dear! ❤
The cannon only sends you to the Creepy Castle Lobby, which appears to be inside the crown of K. Rool Island. So Creepy Castle would still be accesses via K. Rool Island, the cannon just gives the Kongs access.
Exactly what I was thinking. Every level in the game is accessed by a portal so they are real places, just not directly located on each island. That being said, I would totally love to see if K. Rool's ancestor was the ruler of Creepy Castle.
I don’t think it is in the crown. I used to think that growing up, but when you fall down the hole in the lobby area you fall from the sky over in the water by DK isle. At least that is how it seems.

@Jiggylookback I just found your channel man, you’re doing a great job. I’ve played almost every Rare/Rareware game on the SNES and N64 multiple times and they were a big part of my childhood. Hell, Donkey Kong Country was the first video game I ever played. Have you ever played Tonic Trouble for the N64? I haven’t played or really even heard anything about it in probably 2 decades but it’s somewhat similar to Rayman 2. Very bizarre and entertaining. Thank you buddy I appreciate you!
You should’ve updated the Creepy Castle pillar room mystery as that’s been solved recently. A German strategy guide left in a graphic of what was supposed to go there. Turns out it was a golden Donkey Kong bust statue, a rather unique collectible for that area. It might’ve been connected to the Stop N Swap feature.
@@Fractorification yeah you’re right I probably should have. I didn’t think about it when I was making this one. I did receive that information actually shortly after the last one! It’s cool
The buttons in Krools lair is where he intended to mount their heads. Remember he put them all in cages at the beginning. Grey cages with dropping doors, similar to poacher cages. But hey, thats just a theory 😂
I think my favourite mystery of this game to this day would have to be the strange monitors in Hideout Helm. They showed graphics of the moon from Creepy Castle, lava from the various lava rooms in the game, and a blue error screen from Frantic Factory. It made me wonder if all the worlds that you explore in this game are digital illusions created by the Kremlins.

In regards to Lanky's nose: I had the compendium book with all the walkthrough and stuff, that also contained info about each Kong and iirc Lanky Kong's profession is a clown! So it would make sense if he wears a clown nose 😃
The Creepy Castle entrance was always giving me reason to think... The more you approach the canon the more lightnings appear. As if the canon was cursed... So, the bad wether and storms around K Rool's island are not because of K Rool but because it is too close to Creepy Castle

In reference to the heads on the wall. Originally, Rare planed a game over scene which showed all the kong's decapitated heads mounted on the wall. Nintendo cut it because it was deemed "inappropriate" for kids. What a shame!
This was a really interesting video, never actually considered that about Creepy Castle, I actually think that is a very possible theory. Although that begs the question...if Creepy Castle is suspended in the air, how did his ancestor get there or is Creepy Castle meant to be an alternate dimension for the dead since it feels so otherworldly? Would honestly make for a good Halloween theory video for sure as an overthinking it video. One correction though on the green Klaptraps, the only way their teeth come out is if you punch them normally. If you use an orange or music, they're the same as the purple Klaptraps so the only reason we don't see the purple Klaptraps lose their teeth is because they are immune to punches. As to why this is the case, I'd assume it is because of a hierarchy or somethin and their color determines their strength. After all, they showed a large red Klaptrap killing the Krusha in the Creepy Castle intro after he tries to betray K. Rool, but that enemy is nowhere to be seen anywhere else in game so probably a missed opportunity. Although at that point we'd have too many variations of 1 type of enemy so probably for the better to avoid too many repeats. Great video and looking forward to seeing more content. :) Timestamps: -3:10 N64 coin I didn't see the rareware one sadly. :(
Thanks for the quality content. :) I was able to find the N64 coin at 3:10, but rewatching this 3 times still couldn't find the rareware coin. Hopefully someone has better eyes than me. XD
Very interesting stuff. I had a feeling Snide is either related to, is friends with or at least used to work with the other weasels from Conker’s Bad Fur Day. And about disco Chunky, I feel that he either likes to dress up like Rayman and Rayman’s friends as well as the rabbids or he just likes disco. We love him either way.
Actually, all the mini- game barrels with the Golden Bananas are probably not Cranky’s doing. The barrels were probably designed by Snide before being canned. Remember, Snide had 40 Golden Bananas to trade for his original blueprints for the Blast- O-Matic. What’s even more, if you give Snide all 40 blueprints, you are able to play most of the mini-games, the only ones you couldn’t play were the ones that had the Kong directly used, like Busy Barrel Barrage, Speedy Swing Sortie or Mad Maze Maul.
Hmmm I don’t know about that one. I can’t remember crankys specific dialogue but I think he said he made the training barrels. Idk I really think it’s kong tech
@ consider, Cranky’s training were exclusive to basic controls. Swimming, climbing, swinging, barrel throwing and throwing bombs. The games that you play at Snide’s has nothing to do with the basic controls.
Pretty certain that Creepy Castle is from DKC2, part of the kelm isle got launched into the sky and has been stuck up there ever since. Also the faces in Kool's room for the randomizer are there to say which order the final fight is in, it was added by the randomizer devs and has no bearing on the original DK64 (To my knowledge).
There's a thought. If you had been part of the development team, and had convinced them to put Golden Gnawties in Beaver Bother, how would it go? Would they be even harder (but still possible) to get into the hole, but reward you with 2 points if you succeeded? Would you make it so every 9th Gnawty was golden, so if you successfully herded them in order, a Golden would bring you up to 10? Would you decrease the time limit, or possibly increase the target score?
most likely in an earlier version you would have to fight the last boss as each character who had to go through the level on their own. took it out because it would be so boring to have to redo the level 5 times in a row.
The randomizer's latest version cuts down how many segments you need to do to clear helm and Krool to facilitate faster races. So everything you saw with regards to the lanky and chunky buttons and the Krool boss fight was working as intended.
i remember the hype me and my bro got when we saw dk64 at the blockbuster, but we got so disapointed at home because it was so different to the previous games, we just didnt played it, now i kinda regret about that, same happened with bomberman64
Army dillo in my belief is not an armadillo but an aardvark. Reason 1: he can take the shell off where as an armadillo can’t. Reason 2: because he can take the shell off we see that he has a humpback just like said aardvark. The body is golden and some aardvark specimens are golden. Reason 3: body parts like his big nose, 3 toes with short claws, ears though small are similar shaped and point sideways instead of up, and more.
I have sometimes wondered if more was intended for the animal buddies. They play a big role in the original dkc trilogy and only donkey and lankey use them, in very different amounts. I occasionally think a good deal was cut, scrapped or incomplete on that area.
Man I was thinking just the other day imagine if they remastered it for the 3ds like they did ocarina for the 3ds. Would have been awesome! Never mind back to the 64 I go.
I actually played this for its 25th anniversary on treadmill 101% and it took me 3 days and I had to split it up laughs. But I put in 24 miles and 60K steps and 2K cal lmao
I really hope that DK64 is released on Switch soon, I mean c'mon, with the subtle release of Donkey Kong Land 1 & 2 for the Gameboy it's gotta happen, plus with its 25 year anniversary, it's a must. I've been rooting for it for months now, near a year even, and hope that it's soon to come true. I neeeeed my stretchy boyyyyyyyyy
They have to be leading up to Kong goodness. I wouldn't be surprised if we get a Christmas time drop of DK64 and Diddy Kong Racing. Dropping all the Kong games in hype for the January release of DK Returns HD
1:59 the devs said that the animals had to be transformed into because it was too much work to have the kongs just ride them, things would have been better that way in my opinion 😢
Didnt country or land have a cut boss? I saw a video that mentioned in the instruction manual for one of the games there was a boss mentioned that never made it in
Barrels might not be Cranky. Could be Cranky's father or grandfather. They could have had the forethought to hide, or maybe just greedy. Wanting the golden bananas for themselves. Just my own thoughts.

In reference to the heads on the wall. Originally, Rare planed a game over scene which showed all the kong's decapitated heads mounted on the wall. Nintendo cut it because it was deemed "inappropriate" for kids. What a shame!
That is hilarious
Is there a source for that?
Holy crap 😂 that's dark

I didn't see the rareware one sadly. :(
I think you’re right. I could probably get really deep with the Creepy Castle thing. It may be its own video.
Thanks for watching :)
Thanks for the quality content. :)
I was able to find the N64 coin at 3:10, but rewatching this 3 times still couldn't find the rareware coin. Hopefully someone has better eyes than me. XD
@ haha!! I tried to be sneaky
i liked snyde, he was a angry ferret that dint care about anything but getting back at king K rool and like bumper badger we never saw him again.
nice to see ur channel growing
Thanks! I hope it keeps growing! I’d love to do so much with it and focus way more on it!
I was 7 when this came out and it still holds near and dear to my heart!
Absolutely. Been a banger since 99
I finally just 101% (or whatever it was) the game the other month after 33 years of being alive playing it like 25 years ago lmao
Insert narrator voice “WELL DONE!!!”
Feels right to connect those! I’d love to see a Chunky Rayman connection.
Actually, all the mini-
game barrels with the Golden Bananas are probably not Cranky’s doing.
@ true, but I’m talking about the Kong tech vs kremling tech (snide) seems different. Dont see anything of snides like the mini game barrels
It is possible that Snide started working with Cranky after K. Rool terminated his employment.
Did you watch my mysteries video of donkey Kong country 2? That’s exactly what I said lol
@@jiggylookback It's pretty compelling considering it has a lot of elements from dkc2, like the skull cart boss along with the dkc2 decor.
@ right right!! Agreed.
best childhood game ever im shocked they havent made a remake of this on the switch best dk game in my opinion
Agreed
@ a remake is well over due💁
Another enemy variant are the scubis and shuris. The scubis have those whips where they can get you from a distance!
Oh yes. The starfish things
@ which those are a mystery in their selves because those are the only enemies in the game that cannot be killed.
These are fun videos
@@TIN_Tevlev thank you!! I have a lot of fun making them!
The animal transformations feel like they were somewhat inspired by
Banjokazooie.
They do feel like that for sure!
I would make them 2 points rather than 10 and would make them faster so they are harder to wrangle.
most likely in an earlier version you would have to fight the last boss as each character who had to go through the level on their own. took it out because it would be so boring to have to redo the level 5 times in a row.
About the faces look closely. It shows DK Diddy Lankey Tiny and then Chunky which is the exact order you fight K Rool with.
Sometimes orangupltans will balance things on their face, top lip, to just look at it, the nose is a reference
The randomizer's latest version cuts down how many segments you need to do to clear helm and Krool to facilitate faster races. So everything you saw with regards to the lanky and chunky buttons and the Krool boss fight was working as intended.
That's really interesting! I must have missed that setting when creating the seed.
i remember the hype me and my bro got when we saw dk64 at the blockbuster, but we got so disapointed at home because it was so different to the previous games, we just didnt played it, now i kinda regret about that, same happened with bomberman64
Oh man you need to play it. Yes it's different, but it is a banger!
how did I never make the connection with the weasel and CBFD?
It's why I am here. :P
I actually agree.
I have sometimes wondered if more was intended for the animal buddies. They play a big role in the original dkc trilogy and only donkey and lankey use them, in very different amounts. I occasionally think a good deal was cut, scrapped or incomplete on that area.
Yeah it kind of seems like it. It’s really fun but very limited.
I would have loved to seen more animal buddies. Like one in every level
The wall of faces is for k rool when he captures each Kong.
9:35 i call him Klifford the big red Klaptrap
Solid name
Man I was thinking just the other day imagine if they remastered it for the 3ds like they did ocarina for the 3ds. Would have been awesome! Never mind back to the 64 I go.
I want a full HD remake let’s go!!
@ I just thought that the 3ds did a perfect job with the 64 remasters.
@ not bad! A few slight changes to momentum in Majora’s mask that weren’t great but otherwise good! Starfox was great!
I actually played this for its 25th anniversary on treadmill 101% and it took me 3 days and I had to split it up laughs. But I put in 24 miles and 60K steps and 2K cal lmao
That is insane. Glad you got a workout in though haha
@ I sure did it basically broke me. Definitely recommend giving that a go. Retro gaming on a treadmill is awesome
@ I happen to in fact have a treadmill right in my gaming cave. I should do it!!
I really hope that DK64 is released on Switch soon, I mean c'mon, with the subtle release of
Donkey Kong Land 1 & 2 for the Gameboy it's gotta happen, plus with its 25 year anniversary,
it's a must. I've been rooting for it for months now, near a year even, and hope that it's soon
to come true.
@@jiggylookback "Merry Christmas from Nintendo, become monkee"
10:55 they should have had one golden one appear that was worth more points
Dk64 will always be my favorite game of all time, I know there’s a ton of criticism but at the end of the day ITS GOOD and it’s as simple as that.
Same! You’re in good company!
I love the Rare world more than any profitverse, say DC and so.
Beaver Bother is a crime that should be illegal in at least the lower 48 States.

Wow that’s wild too
1:59 the devs said that the animals had to be transformed into because it was too much work to have the kongs just ride them, things would have been better that way in my opinion 😢
Ahh makes sense. I would have liked them to ride them too
Didnt country or land have a cut boss? I saw a video that mentioned in the instruction manual for one of the games there was a boss mentioned that never made it in
Hmmm I don’t know in the instruction manual. I’d have to look into it
I love this game

Oooooo Banana!!!
Barrels might not be Cranky. Could be Cranky's father or grandfather. They could have had the forethought to hide, or maybe just greedy. Wanting the golden bananas for themselves. Just my own thoughts.
Could be!
DK64 in December😍
