Her love for him compelled her to bury every connection she had to people involved with the High Table. Winston may have helped her disappear during one last contract. Presumed dead by the table she could now pursue a real relationship and marriage with John. She then spent a year of freedom with John before succumbing to her illness.

Ian mcshane is a pleasure to watch on screen no matter the role he plays. His dad Harry was a Scottish professional football player and played for my club Manchester United in the 50s and worked alongside the club long after his retirement. He is credited for bringing Wes brown to the managers attention amongst other things and didnt pass away until 2012 at the age of 92! Being successful is nice I’m sure but watching your son surpass you in your success must be a great blessing indeed.
Wait i have a really good head canon about the marquis, i know it completely defaces the canon but i like it more. My idea is that the "marquis" is similar to the arbiter from halo, a person who has done something unforgiveable and must complete an "impossible" task to find redemption, both are given immense resources, and the marquis seems extremely focused on killing john (though i think its just because it will get him on the table if i remember)
As arguably dim-witted as JW is, you can't fault him for his humility. Winston offered him constructive criticsm and wisdom (with a small side of, "wtf John?") and John took it. Be teachable. It gets you far.
