I am the owner/designer of HOTONE. Thank you so much for your positive review. To answer you and your viewers question on my business name pronunciation. HOTONE was originally to be pronounced “HOT ONE”, but with all the confusion with the spelling it is now pronounced “HOE TONE”. This is because my amps are hand made by all my bishes and hoes. Gotcha. I love you Max.
Uhm... hey. Listen, I was just listening to a musician talk about "that guy" in every music player's life. And I thought for a bit. I wondered who that was for me. I was stumped until I started thinking about this current version of me. And I realized. The first guy I started watching and listening to in UA-cam. It was you. You play so great but you make it look so easy. i know there's a lot of hard road behind you. But I'm glad you make it look so possible because you allow me to believe in myself. I'm using a little finger and hand exercising thing. I have some nerve damage in my left hand, but I can tell despite the numbness, my ĝrip is getting stronger. It's getting easier to hold chords. I think you're the reason I started trying again. I ĵust wanted to say thanks. So, thank you. And Happy Holidays. Oh, btw, I'm using the Blackstar Fly 3 Special Edition with the second amp combo. It's not as higher end as the one you're playing in this video, but it suits me for now. And yuup, that amp you're using sounds awesome through my Samsung tablet. Jesus, you play good.
Nice amp, and great review! I do have a THR30II, and agree with a couple comments below that the battery and wireless make it better for my use. I also use it as a bluetooth speaker in my workshop, so as I have tunes cranking while I'm working, if I hear something cool I can immediately pick up my guitar, try to figure the part out, then go right back to listening to the music.
I have the latest incarnation of the Yamaha THR. If everything else was equal to the "Pulze" in terms of the sound/effects, I think Yamaha would still win because of two additional features: 1) The internal battery and 2) the internal wireless receiver. That makes for a lot fewer cords. You can also charge the wireless transmitter in the amp, so both charge at the same time off the same power supply. Regarding the interface: The knobs on the THR are a little deceptive. They give you quick and easy access to all the most basic settings, but the app allows access to an expanded range. For example, the reverb might only go up to what a typical amp would deliver, but you'll find you can crank it way past "11" through the app. (You can save additional presets/patches in the app as well.) Personally, I would prefer if everything was on the amp, but I see that they traded endless choices for ease-of-use on the amp itself. I am definitely happy I went with the Yahama. It's great if you're moving around (e.g., following the kids from room to room). I got mine as soon as they were released (maybe 2? 3? years ago), and nothing has come out that beats it for convenience and versatility.
In terms of pure tone (no effects, also doesn’t matter whether it has to be through an app or on the thing itself), which do you think sounds and responds more like the real amp(s)?
Listening to it through my Sure Aonic 40’s and can confirm it sounds like listening to it through headphones when you’re wearing headphones. Hope that helps.
I still swear by my tiny Hotone Lift-Up stomp box. It increases the sound quality of any amp about 20%. Those guys get tone. Nice demo. The amp is amazing but a little more high-tech than I like them to be.
I have a Roland Micro Cube RX, and I love it. This amp is so awsome that it doesn't make sense that Roland quit making it! And it can run on 6 AA batteries for hours, or it can be used with an ac adapter.
The color scheme on that guitar with the transparent black and abalone accents in just enough places is working *very* well. It looks like it plays and sounds great; it walks the line nicely between guitars that don't do it at all and ones that will get the palette right but end up blowing it by throwing abalone everywhere including binding and buttons. Neck through is just a bonus - I bet it plays smooth, fast, and sharp like a good whip should.
Awesome review, great playing!! You're technique is so clean. I like how you honestly critiqued some short-comings at the end, especially the app issues. Very useful info. Really considering this amp. Thanks, and you gained a sub!
I like that everything is accessible from the touch screen (even though the screen is small.) Thankfully, owning a Headrush MX5, I know a thing or two about small touch screens. I feel it wouldn't be too much harder to navigate through. Some good sounds to be had for sure.
It's a technology all companies have, the marshall code, fender mustang gtx and others all have this display and concept. It's all about the price range and my opinion is that the price is higher than it should be set It's the entry price. Sounds great tho, and thanks for the share. A great demo
I have the Blackstar ID:Core 20, and the "3d stereo" really is wild. It will make a light slap back type of reverb/echo effect sound like it is somewhere off behind you.
You sound great, and the amp sounds amazing. I'm not sure about the minimalist design though, especially with the tiny screen and where it's located on top. Lots of great features but quite pricey... should be more like $280-300. Also, an internal battery would have made a lot of sense for this thing. I still want one because of the sound, but I'll wait to see what they do with the next iteration/model instead - and its price point.
To everyone whining about the cost, nobody is forcing you to buy it. Innovation costs money. If this sounds as good as Max says, its absolutely worth the added cost. Thanks Max, great demo, as always.
I totally agree with you!!! How it sounds is the most important characteristic. I own multi thousand dollar amp and cabinet set ups that do not sound as good as this setup. If a system sounds good it makes you want to play, which makes you practice more, which ultimately makes you sound better!!! If it is expensive, so be it. The ONLY aspect of this amp that is a little wonky is, if the touchscreen goes out, how do you control it. It relies on control from an external device. What if compatibility in the future is not accessible. Then this device will be useless. I know you will say it still has the touchscreen. But you can see how fragile that is. But it is very useful at the moment. I can see this being useful for the next 10 years, which makes its cost 50 dollars per year. This is expensive, but if sound quality is your highest priority (it should be) then this is the choice. My alternative choice is the Yamaha. The Yamaha has knobs. I have always If the Yamaha sounded as good as this unit, I would buy the Yamaha.
@@tracystamatakis valid criticisms and I completely agree. As long as the software works with practically any phone or tablet, things are fine. But any number of problems could arise to make them uncompatible. If that happens and the touchscreen is broken, you'd have a 400+ dollar paper weight. Assuming these issues don't occur, I'm fine with paying a little more for a better sound. I wouldn't gig with it because it's too fragile and susceptible to damage, but I would practice and record with it. I appreciate your input and opinion.
@@donbishop6994 I agree, and I plan on buying one. What I plan to do over time is buy several compatible iPads for this amp once they become very cheap when they are outdated. I actually have a second generation iPad that currently they practically give away. I will first see if that will work. I am going to find the cheapest compatible iPad and use that as the interface. I plan on never touching the touchscreen on the amp, in hopes it will last longer. iPads are also large so they will be easy to manipulate the parameters of the amplifier. Another great new review was done by guitaomaxx on his UA-cam channel.
Thanks for the video, I paused it to comment so I may be mentioning too quickly, that the reason the "stereo thing" works so well on this is likely due to it not being super loud. On larger amps, they're usually cranked to the point that any semblance of a stereo image is undetectable. I used to run sound at a small club, and it always dashed the band members' dreams to know that the pa was not "stereo" it was hard for them to understand that trying to present a stereo image live was detrimental to the performance of the system, and at crazy volumes it was absolutely worthless
I'm with you brosky, it is indeed an awesome little amp. It is amazing how these companies are able to get such high quality depth of sound from such a small package. I love them I recently purchased a mini katana oh my goodness does it sound good to be so small I'm going to have to invest in that cuz I like the positive grid but it's a little more pricey. Great video homie.
Wait until you hear the Jamstack 2 in person. It just started shipping to backers after a few years of difficulties between the pandemic and some technical challenges - like on route as we speak. It’s currently 25% off if you hurry and they’re saying it will arrive before Xmas if you order now. That thing sounds like a BEAST at a fraction of the size of this amp, and it uses tech and features on board that no other amp of any size has. I hope you’re gonna check it out. The demos I saw if it being used in a giant convention center and being heard clearly over the noise was remarkable. Works great with any instrument, not just guitar. Really deserves a look. Makes everything else on the market look like toys.
@@gdawgs101 I am just a very excited customer who used birthday money to support their crowdfunding project. I also have the first Jamstack which is still a great practice amp, but it pales in comparison to what Jamstack 2 is. I am getting one in the mail tomorrow after waiting for three years for it to materialize (according to the info). I have no affiliation with the company. I just believe in what I backed is all. The teeny Jamstack team has accomplished creating a practice amp with a limited budget that sounds incredible with some really unique features that were complex to develop on a limited budget . . . and. none of these large companies with big bucks have bothered to do with amps of any size because it would have been expensive, taken a skilled team, and would have been a major challenge. The big brands are interested in profit margins and making a quick buck by developing practice amps with cheap components and limited feature that depending entirely on your mobile device’s processing power. Maybe read about all the specs and features on the Jamstack website and watch some of the demos, and then you’ll understand my excitement. - The amp has on board processing so that it’s not overloading your phone’s memory (while the phone is doing many processes in the background). - JS tones download onto the amp itself - it is compatible with virtually all FX apps - and you can stream music from the amp while you play guitar. - It’s not only compatible with guitar, but ANY instrument that has a jack. - Every instrument sounds incredible because the amp has two high end custom 2.5” drivers with a powerful pre-amp, and the amp is 30w (60w peak). - You can also use multiple Jamstack 2 units as a home theater system for your TV/stereo because you can pair multiple amps . . . which means you can also play your guitar in stereo or surround sound. - JS2 uses a streaming technology called SKAA that won’t ever lag like Bluetooth that has superior audio quality and no pairing is needed. - JS 2 has its own app, but also is compatible with virtually all other tone/FX apps. - There’s an extra input for a mic or second instrument. - It is able to act as an audio and video recording interface. - JS 2 can hook up to your guitar’s strap button, as well as get mounted on a wall and virtually anything else with their brackets and accessories. - You can connect your instruments wired or wirelessly. Do you understand my excitement? There’s more, but that gives you an idea. This little amp that’s less than 2 lbs is gonna be a beast that will make every other practice amp (and even some larger ones) look like cute little novelty toys. This is a serious piece of gear. Many pro musicians that play a variety of instruments have given JS 2 a stamp of approval. I was most impressed when Jamstack demoed the amp while it was still under development this past summer and was about the start the production phase in a large noisy convention center hall, and the guitar could be heard loud and clear from quite a distance away. I’ve heard it playing bass and an e-violin. They sounded insanely good. These practice amps sound ok, but Jamstack just sounds more dynamic, richer, fuller - not flubby at the low end or shrilly at the high end. I was just trying to help ppl get a deal before it ended (you can still save $30 before Xmas). I would love for others to know that this amp exists. This is a teeny brand and they really could use and deserve the exposure. It’s in my best interest as a customer to spread word so they can keep creating amazing amps and products.
@@ivanriverajr5012 I got my Katana Air, with the wireless puck, for not much more than that...that being said I'm not here to hijack Hotone's demo so I'll just say I've beat it up pretty bad, played it everywhere in the worst of conditions, and it's still cookin. If the Hotone can do the same, then I think it's a great alternative to the Yamaha series, if for nothing else that the touch screen is a logical upgrade in this modern world and the sound is fine - if you're already loading all your own patches anyhow, then 100% I would take this over a Yammy. If you install the app on a small tablet then the controls will be much easier to use - 7" android tablets are pretty cheap now. If I used my app a lot, I'd do the same and I've done it for other devices that were very app driven.
I was wondering how long it would take the spark 40 to be outdated. I worked in an electronic store for 3 years and was I would tell my customers that the items I would sell them would be outdated before they got home with it.
I'm going to buy the spark cab and start buying desk tops ,stage right 5w,spark, I'm going to try this amp even though it's new,and stack on top of the cab and sell floor models to save space.
OVER $400, Ill think il plug in my ol stereo chorus, one side to my amp, the other side to another amp. I used to run stereo thru my home stereo, the other side to a half stack and was obsessed with the sound and even turned down playng in a couple bands
As time goes by, we see more and more good products coming from Chinese brands, and that’s exciting. It creates competition for American products, which tend to stagnate and lack innovation. The Chinese brands seem to understand everything, engaging in a constant race to offer the best product. I just ordered mine, and I think it will be great on its own, but I can't wait to test it connected to my JBL PartyBox Ultimate.
How about the sound in the room compared to Nux mighty space or Spark amp. From the recording sound I prefer the Pulze, but is it really different in the room or real world practice situation?
I was seriously considering purchasing one until I realized that it had no internal battery. It just seems like a better THR30II, but the lack of battery makes it less flexible and convenient.
This may be a dumb question but are there speakers in that? Or do you have to have a cab to hook it up to? Because I imagine the speakers would have to be small. And that's a lot of sound in a small package. And if it does come with speakers built in, are you able to hook it into a bigger cab if you wanted?
Thanks Max Man being a smelly mystic hippy (marshall, mullards & the middle finger) I am timid of the approach wave of technology. I own marshalls, fenders, boogies a thd just bought a line6 v30 spider an amazing accompaniment amp for a looper, came with on board loop great drum tracks and the gibson L6 lab series model, WOW the 70s. But this little thing defines the future of couch potato amps. The sound fields for the clean, 3D is what sold it. Well done Young Man! Now to check out the neck thru strat! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
So, compared to Nux Mighty space, Hotone Pulze has a pitch shifter, but does it shift octave down to simulate a bass guitar (like Digitech Drop does)? Pulze has more effects, but unlike NMS it doesn't run on battery, nor does it come with an included pedal for looper and drum control. So, that is a big miss for me. Does it have a looper and drum machine at all? Does it support BT midi controllers (NMS does)? Does it have a wah effect that can be controlled by BT midi (no wah in NMS)?
HeyMaxx long long time subscriber was wondering is you still have Blackstar Amps ? I have a BS ID:Core v3 10 watt . I'm trying to form a RATT cover Band but I cannot dial in a Ratt tone was hoping if you have time you could help a 50+ 80's Metal guy out .I'm sure other would enjoy as well . Warren De Martini & Lynch are my to fav's but I started off with EVH & Randy Rhodes who changed the Shredding game forever . Hope you can help Thanks just need the settings ... \m/ .
The big difference is that the Might Space is battery powered and truly portable. This unit sounds better, but is really a desktop amp, where the NU-X is a take-with-you amp.
I dont know rick. Pricey and lack so many fetures. You should do a comparison with the nux mighty space and the new boss katana air ex. Nux has so many noce features and the katana sounds amazing as well
Sold all my other amps kept the original Yamaha Thr10 and 10X which I run together via an aby pedal is still the best for me! Easier to use than the other desktops also!
Nice for practice, but for composing and creativity i don't know. Do they think how we can conect a looper in it and have all the effects just for the guitar we play ? Can we take out all the sound we have programmed and take them out in a daw or i don't know, i use 3 diferents loopers and can i get this sound in and get back and use just the sound modified for the guitar solo ? Do they have a send and return inside ?... I think they miss all this part... For me we are close to the graal amp but just miss a looper part inside to be really complete. And it's akways the same problem with this amp modeling type. Maybe one day they one constructor will took the Rubicon to be really complete. That's what i'm looking for.
Best micro amp, on a budget, is the Laney. About $170 for the micro-stack. They even have two distinct versions, with Iron Horse and Lionheart models. I think the two models have different gain stages and delays built in. On the down side, i need to carry a few pedals around with it for effects. On the plus side, i prefer using real pedals anyways lol.
I was all set to sell off a couple of amps to buy this one, but the tiny tiny touchscreen really makes me hesitate. I have a hard enough time with apps on my phone already. - can I edit patches on my computer and load them into the amp? If so, the screen becomes less important. - what about changing patches on the fly, is that only by using the touchscreen/phone, or is there a footswitch for a/b or +/- patches? - is it seriously that much better sounding than the yamaha? portability is really nice imo, but sound is king right? excellent shredding today btw, Max
I like the sounds so much that I will be purchasing one for my home-away-from-home on the opposite coast. Thanks for the demo! BTW, loving the P-38 Lightning in the background.
Great sounds. Wish it was rechargeable like the new (and pricey) Katana Air EX. Oh, to be free of power cables & transformers. Carry and go. I agree, some juicy tones-very cinematic. Of course, with your playing compositions.
Wow, another very interesting desktop amp. Personally, I think the touchscreen is a waste because 99% of the amp’s users are going to prefer controlling it with their phone (or larger touchscreen device). It would have been better to include a few more actual knobs instead of the screen. Just my two cents. This actually looks very comparable to Nux Mighty Space, which sells for $30 more.
I avoid products that require an app to adjust features. Eventually the manufacturer will stop updating the app and it will no longer be compatible with the latest OS. I do prefer knobs over touch screens to quickly adjust features like gain, EQ, and volume. The Boss Katana got that right.

Awesome video! Great Stuff!
Holy Shazam! That riff you did at 6:58 was tasty!
Max is a great player. Underrated.
I really think this should be closer to $300 to be competitive with other similar desktop amplifiers
This thing is 420 dollars. Not including tax or ship. Pretty damn expensive
Bahaha. Haha. Hahaha. No.
If I used my app a lot, I'd do the same and I've done it for other devices that were very app driven.
ya that’s way too expensive when you have cheap multi effects you can just plug a good set of headphones or speakers into
Yet….if it sounds so much better it should cost more. It does sound great from afar I must say.
I was wondering how long it would take the spark 40 to be outdated. I worked in an electronic store for 3 years and was I would tell my customers that the items I would sell them would be outdated before they got home with it.
so glad you never sold me anything
Cool parlor trick utilizing old theater surround sound
you can see the seams on that multi piece body guitar in the video, sounds good regardless
I'm going to buy the spark cab and start buying desk tops ,stage right 5w,spark, I'm going to try this amp even though it's new,and stack on top of the cab and sell floor models to save space.
I can’t believe how powerful that little amp sounds and clean for miles. Tons of Tones ! 👍
The very first tone sounded so much like Iron Maiden. Love it!!!
Is that an old Hallicrafters SW Radio in the background?
Yes! And it works!
Sounds so good. I want one .
OVER $400, Ill think il plug in my ol stereo chorus, one side to my amp, the other side to another amp. I used to run stereo thru my home stereo, the other side to a half stack and was obsessed with the sound and even turned down playng in a couple bands
But if I had extra capital I would buy it up quick
Great , honest review
As time goes by, we see more and more good products coming from Chinese brands, and that’s exciting.
It creates competition for American products, which tend to stagnate and lack innovation.
The Chinese brands seem to understand everything, engaging in a constant race to offer the best product.
I just ordered mine, and I think it will be great on its own, but I can't wait to test it connected to my JBL PartyBox Ultimate.
I like the range of sounds. Crisp too
Nice piece of kit!
Thanks for the review, how were you recording this? Sounds great? Was anything added in post? Thanks man 🙏🏻
How about the sound in the room compared to Nux mighty space or Spark amp. From the recording sound I prefer the Pulze, but is it really different in the room or real world practice situation?
Sounds really good I might just get one once I get a new guitar
I was seriously considering purchasing one until I realized that it had no internal battery. It just seems like a better THR30II, but the lack of battery makes it less flexible and convenient.
This may be a dumb question but are there speakers in that? Or do you have to have a cab to hook it up to? Because I imagine the speakers would have to be small. And that's a lot of sound in a small package. And if it does come with speakers built in, are you able to hook it into a bigger cab if you wanted?
Yamaha THR10x originated that space plus sound
I have one and it’s crazy
Thanks Max Man being a smelly mystic hippy (marshall, mullards & the middle finger) I am timid of the approach wave of technology. I own marshalls, fenders, boogies a thd just bought a line6 v30 spider an amazing accompaniment amp for a looper, came with on board loop great drum tracks and the gibson L6 lab series model, WOW the 70s. But this little thing defines the future of couch potato amps. The sound fields for the clean, 3D is what sold it. Well done Young Man! Now to check out the neck thru strat! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Thanks for the great review. Can I connect it to external cabinets/speakers? Thank you
It looks just like the Yamaha desktop amp!
Reminds me of my Yamaha THR-10 which is the BEST portable amp I've ever heard!
Great little amp. Gotta kick out of the S-38. Had one years ago. My first shortwave receiver.
How does it compare to Nux mighty space? You said that amp was amazing also
The big difference is that the Might Space is battery powered and truly portable. This unit sounds better, but is really a desktop amp, where the NU-X is a take-with-you amp.
@@GuitarMAXMusic thank you for the advice,much appreciated.🫶
I dont know rick. Pricey and lack so many fetures. You should do a comparison with the nux mighty space and the new boss katana air ex. Nux has so many noce features and the katana sounds amazing as well
Nice review Amp Daddy. Way to break out those pimp hands and lay the track down on that Ho Tone.
The best and most informative review yet. 73 DE N7CAL
I think I’d get the 50 or 100 Katana if I ever wanted a modeling amp, it’s cheaper, and I think the 100 does stereo cab out
i have katana 50 and thr 10, both cool but thr 10 sound much better at lower volumes
@@theuserthatishereI agree. I think the Yamaha effects sound way better too. The Katana requires way too much work to get usable tones
Looks cool sounds killer!!
Sold all my other amps kept the original Yamaha Thr10 and 10X which I run together via an aby pedal is still the best for me! Easier to use than the other desktops also!
Been thinking about doing the same. I have one thr 10x . May run two of them but cool idea using the 10C. Some different sounds.
Nice review, do you think it is trying to compete with the Yamaha THR30II, amp?
I'm amazed of the sound from the amp and I'm hearing it on my laptop.
Yamaha thr is the best, boss katana air is second.
Blackstar code is cool as well. Positive grid spark is cool too.
Based on what?
opinion of course,
Nice for practice, but for composing and creativity i don't know.
Is this excellent tone a line recording? In my videos, I recorded using a microphone and it turned out perfectly too!
I've heard "Ho-Tone" mostly. But personally, I would say "Hot One". But you're the first I've heard to ever say "Hot Tone".
You make that amp sound KickA. Yeah you KickA.
Hi sorry 2 more questions …headphone volume is it “ loud’ enough…and does it sound good at low dbs say -65/70 ….tnx
how do i connect this to my pc so i dont have to use a mic to record audio from it
You're 100% RIGHT! GREAT sound! But a 7" screen, and USB rechargeable... THEN I'd pay that ANY day!
I am loving the AIO WOLF S1 HSH FLOYD! I only have 1 experience with a floyd from a Jackson. What is your veiws of the AIO wolf s1
Does it have enough volume for the rehearsal room with a band?
"It's all in my HEAD man...oh wooow."
It sounds great. $419 seems high, but it does sound really good and the Yamaha is very expensive.
One is Chinese, the other Japanese.
The guitar and amp sound killer!
7:40 that is totally Jessica from The Allman Brothers (original Top Gear theme song)
Nice old National radio in the background.
It sounded FN amazing or was that just the Max Factor 😂
I like the sounds so much that I will be purchasing one for my home-away-from-home on the opposite coast. Thanks for the demo! BTW, loving the P-38 Lightning in the background.
Love the amp but I need battery as I play sitting in driveway. So what's the best portable battery one.
Just a quick guitar question bro.... What is the art or name on the left front of that P38 Lighting behind you? Marge maybe? Or Pudgie?
Great eye! It's Pudgy!
@@GuitarMAXMusic I know my chit. Lol
Non-portable (no travel capability / battery power) is a deal-breaker for me, but otherwise well-rounded and sounds great!
What do you think about the Boss Cube Street II Portable Guitar Amplifier
Can't find it anywhere on the net. Anyone know where I can buy one?
Damn! I want one now.
Seems like they just took one of their digital modelers and added class D power and small speakers in one unit. Not bad idea but $419 is steep.
thr10 was 300 ten years ago
If you buy a cheap solid state like a katana and a couple of pedals you’ll spend more than $419
Great sounds.
