Thanks Max for the honest and in depth evaluation. I really enjoy the unedited format. For the money, Firefly is a very good value. Thanks and we'll see you next time.
I just got the Adam Jones copy from Firefly... It had a pickup hanging out LOL, but thrilled otherwise and it is a platform for a mod... I bought a tele from them and modded it a bit, then played it live for over a year. I still LOVE IT!!! These are worth getting, then tweaking to taste. A significant value for how well-made the body and neck are, I say. Cheers Brother! I love your videos mate! No shenanigans here. Some folks get it twisted. Be Blessed.
Hey, these are great unedited videos! Helping make guitar inclusive for all. Beginners don’t have to invest heavily to get started. Fair critiques with solutions if one watches the full video. These could be great spares to have on hand or just nice in a collection.
Received my blue/silver sparkle Firefly today....wow! Almost perfect out of the box. Neck needed small amount of tweaking, neck is great, and, like you noticed, the neck and middle pickups needed adjusting to get a nicely balanced tone. Thanks for the great demo of this model. I like the "no edit" version of your vids. Again, thanks for your reviews...great job! Roger
Max. Love the one take videos Just seems more real to me.Because that's how we would review the guitar in our own home I love the guitar. Also , uh , they're already out of stock!
He did a FF Tele last year. I got in right after it was uploaded and ordered right away. They were sold out in a few hours. I'm watching this a day later. I already knew I had no chance.
Just got the Buckethead baritone Firefly guitar the other day, which also has alnico 5 pickups, and it's kickass! I thought for sure on a cheaper guitar I'd have to swap them out, but I like them just as much as my EMG's in my ESP LTD. They sound great and not microphonic when going through my mesa tube amp and 4x12 cranked to 11, which was really surprising. So it's refreshing to see that you had a good impression with the alnico 5 pickups in the model you're showing here. I appreciate your reviews! I'm sure they help people like me more than you realize
Hey Guitar Max, Love your channel. Your unedited videos should help silence some of the haters. Does Firefly know they are sending it you? Just curious.
Considering it's not a Gibson, the Firefly is an amazing replica of the Ace Frehley model, right down to the Mirror covers for the volume and tone pots cavity, and for the toggle switch. You were mentioning the construction of the neck. That's a set neck versus a neck thru body construction. Great review and killer playing as always. I wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving, brother!
I just received the "Gold Colored" LP and man it is gorgeous.! Plays good too... Its got the double binding as well and I noticed that it is no longer available on the website so I'm very fortunate that I got one
Hey Max, I've noticed firefly has started making cases, seem inexpensive. Maybe a video on one would be fun. Been watching since finding firefly about 8 years ago, love the channel !
@gagolfanddrones487 thanks ! My 338 was my first about 8 years ago, had to replace pickups to use out but quality much better now. Love their gibson necks. Thanks for the info.
Awesome demo and review Max “. Not like all the haters, I watched the entire vid. This guitar is a 70’s hot rodded tone machine. Firefly is no. 1 in my book. Just ordered one thanks to you. Bet they’ll be gone in no time. Get um while they’re hot.
I appreciate your videos. I have made a purchase based on them and learned some sweep picking arpeggios that i applied to songwriting. still not fast at sweeps but i learned how to do it and improved my playing from your videos and some lessons
I've got two Fireflys, the Jaguar style baritone and the Resonator Acoustic. They are fantastic guitars. The frets are very smooth and they play great. They needed new strings and a mild setup (intonation, truss rod tweak), but I do that on ALL of my new guitars anyway. I expect it. I had the Ric style bass. That thing was an absolute train wreck, but from most comments in Firefly forums, it was pretty universal. Just a bad design. Guitars Garden's return process was really easy. No problems at all! Overall, Firefly guitars are FANTASTIC for the price. Just an aside, I also have a Grote LP. It's another great guitar. It impresses me how good of quality guitars these companies can produce for so cheap. Great project guitars if you want to upgrade pickups!
I now own 7. Just picked up a Mustang yesterday. Have a strat, super strat, 338, thinlne tele, explorer too. Don't judge me! It's an addiction,..... I think. I almost forgot my Les Paul Gorgon. Make that 8. Shhh! Don't tell the wife.
I just got the Gorgon as my first a couple weeks ago. Love it!! At their price point and quality standards you can and would actually would WANT to own a bunch of them. So I think that's what I'm gonna set about doing!
I made it to 15, then realized you can only play one at a time, so now I have 3 (electric, bass, and acoustic) at my setup, and 5 more stored in cases (some sentimental, some for alternate tunings)
@TheRealxVincent A lot of times friends stop over to watch sports, have a drink and most play so it's nice to be able to just pull one off the wall and plug in. They enjoy seeing what new one I've gotten. Only trouble is they take up most wall space. I need another rack or put an extension on my house ! 😆
At first I was skeptical about this brand, after several weeks of watching many youtube reviews and research I decided why not? I recently added the Firefly LP 3 humbucker flaming sunburst to my collection. I MUST say that over the years I have owned several high end Gibson LPS, Custom Shop Strats, Ibanez and This $200 guitar is extremely impressive. Not only does it look and feel great I jammed with my band this week and it sounds truly BadAss!!! Kudos to the Firefly crew and its artisans for building such an Incredible Guitar...Gratitude Guitar Max for your indepth reviews as well as your musicianship...Keep up the great flow!!!
Max my man, thanks for bringing this great looking am sounding piece of art to our attention. It is really rocking and out of sight. Might get my hands on one someday. Anyway good job on the video. Hod Bless 🙏 You And Take Care
just recently got their Mad Cat guitar and love it, bought it as a practice/project guitar to learn full setup and fixing frets and all that, but might hold of on modding much, maybe I'll just have to get an other Firerly for that some day... Currently the neck is off, added two more coats of shielding paint and grounding wire to the pickup cavities. Great review, very pretty guitar, even if glitter is not my thing. Sounds great. Hard to believe what you can get for so little money nowadays, really great. So many more kids will be able to pick up a great guitar and get going!
That's because the paint job is a copy of a Gibson custom that they made for Ace years and years ago lol. I have the Chibson one that has all his signatures, lightning bolt fret inlays and his face on the headstock.
My second watch for this unpacking, etc. And, today I ordered this guitar to go with my Firefly semi-hollow Dave Grohl style based on your recent Firefly semi- hollow body review. You are correct, they go fast.
After watching the "Tiger Queen" review the other night I went to the Firefly website and not only noticed this "glam" triple pick-up one and put it in my cart-but, hadn't bought it, yet. Nice to see you review it so soon afterward. I think it's time to click "buy now". Great job. Put the BK crown on lol!
That’s a killer single cut a al ace guitar man. Just wow. I’ve had my eye on these. I wish I’d gotten one of the gorgon guitars but I waited too long. I’m looking at the bullseye guitars now. 😉
What a BEAUTIFUL, THICK Tone. I would have loved to hear more clean jazz from it, but your rock orientation is fine. It seems like a split-single-coil pickup switch might be VERY interesting, even if only on the middle pickup (or all of them). I can't help but wonder... This just seems to be MADE for MODS! Thanks for showing - and plating - this great instrument. I may also pick the Boss IR-2 as well, as it seems to be really flexible, and I love hands-on control, without diving into menu levels so deep you forget what you were looking for.
These one take videos have a lot of personally since you are showing 1 to 1 from out of box to getting it in tune and ready to play brilliant video idea by the way! 😃 Would you consider checking out a Fender Mustang style guitar on a budget?
Yeah not only does this have the Ace vibe but this it's actually one of his guitars in that color he usually plays the orange one but there's pictures all over Google with him and one that looks exactly like this. Great review Max
Yah, these Firefly LPs look so great. Seriously eyeing all of them and wanting more than my wallet will allow. Ended up just recently picking up their Tiger Beauty and Gorgon ones though.
I got the black and white tele model with wide range style pups, bound roasted neck, locking tuners, great frets… I added a Guyker trem, and she’s sweet.
Heard about this company from you and am loving my reliced Strat HSS Floyd Rose - so nice. It literally needed no setup at all - always wanted an HSS FR...
I have three FF's and they are all killer guitars. After a little work, that is. Nothing too serious, but they all had high frets. Most just needed to be seated, but I did have one high fret on each guitar that needed to be leveled, recrowned and polished. Beyond that I have had zero issues with any other aspect of their build or performance. They are really solid guitars at the core.
I just got my first Firefly LP style a couple weeks ago, and it was REALLY good right out of the box! Only thing it absolutely needed was, as Max said a slight (SLIGHT) neck adjustment, and in MY case tuners. Mine had kind of alot of slack in them so I threw on a set of Gotoh Magnalocks (I think that's what they're called). Problem solved. Aside from that, I like to play stoner doom and sludge, so I threw in a set of Seymour Duncan Slugs, and while I was at it changed out the wiring harness for a Mojotone harness and added some shielding. Again, didn't NEED any of that, it was just because I wanted hotter, more bass and mid heavy pickups. The other stuff was while I was at it anyway. The thing is an absolute RAMPAGING MAMMOTH now!!❤ And now I'm looking at either the one in this video or the three pickup SG knockoff as a B standard guitar. Maybe a tiny little bit of love out of the box and these are AWESOME guitars!! ESPECIALLY for the money. I will definitely be owning more!
Aloha from Hawaii, I have this same guitar, same blueberry burst ( no glam ) no rounded frets,& it's a ' classic ' not a ' elite ',got it the summer of 2020 & luv it; it also sounds great. All I did was dress it,clean da pots, & lemon oil da neck. And yes it's a BEAST of a guitar, mine is actually nicknamed " da beast ". 😉🤙
I’ve been building guitars and my kids want me to donate guitars for two different school auctions. It would cost me more to build one than to buy a firefly. I think I’ll donate those!
Something that I kind of decided during the lockdown was that I was all that finished with economy guitars. I still want up getting one more of them in December 2021, an Epiphone Flying V from the 2009 Negative line exclusive to the Canadian retailer Long & McQuade. If it was more than 20 years earlier and I were still in my first half decade of being a player, if this model had entered the market then, late in the 90s, it really would have appealed to me. It would’ve been unique enough where I was in high school for all the other musicians to take one look and start hitting me up with questions about what it was, and it would’ve appealed to me for the amount of snow shaping I’ve always liked doing.
I just picked up the Buckethead Baritone. My neck pickup is a bit low, and there is 5th & 6th string mid neck buzzing as well. Very minor. Like yours, just a slight bit of relief needed? We will see. Waiting for the strings to settle in. Love these Firefly guitars.
Man this axe screams Ace Frehly. Epiphone made some like these years back at the Sammick factory but I think only for the asian market. I think this firefly is awesome! Great review Max, thanks
Thanks for another great honest first take on of these guitars, I'm loving this format. This one actually made me pull up the product page and has me seriously thinking of picking one up. I don't know if you're planning on doing a deep dive on any of these guitars you are reviewing, but if you wouldn't mind answering a few questions about this one I'd greatly appreciate it. How are the 3 pickups wired to the switch, i.e. which ones are active in which position? And as for the control knobs, are there 3 volumes and one master tone? Lastly, are the pickups themselves decent? They sounded pretty alright in the video but what's your opinion? I realize one can't and shouldn't expect boutique high-end quality components on a guitar that costs 200 bucks, but some of these budget brands' pickups sound like barely repurposed soda cans being very microphonic, tinny and hollow sounding. Thank you!
Your playing is over the top , your channel is the goat and man , did you ever thought of doing radio or voice over for animation or cinema. You have a really good deep bass voice . My dad pass near me and said this guy has it all , good looking , play like a beast and a voice to wake up Snow White 😂😂😂😂. Crack me up
Awesome video Max; as honest as honest can get (fact). I definitely noticed that guitar's tone as well. I think FireFly has a winner as far as real tone. It's a good looking guitar and all 3 humbuckers together was tone Nirvana. Great video and 73 GOD bless Earnest K5EWM.
So, I purchased a Fire Fly FFLPS Elite in emerald with a quilted top three years ago. It had major issues. The post holes for the bridge and tail piece were drilled over sized. Causing both to be loose. The saddles for the bridge were cut wrong and way too deep. The nut was nut wrong and the string spacing for the D&G string were not spaced evenly. The D&G string were too close to each other. The tuners would slip and the neck had a back bow. The guitar guitar would not hold tune. The back bow was so bad that I had to crank the truss rod in the counter clockwise direction way past the zero slack point to bring the neck straight. So thankful it had a double action truss rod in it. There were dead spots along the fretboard as well. The woods were not as advertised. The neck and body is all maple. The guitar is heavy. I was able to fix all the issues but I would not purchase one ever again. I replaced the nut, tuners, bridge and tail piece and all the electronics. I doweled the post holes and drilled to the proper size. I did a level and crown on the frets too. The guitar is ok for what it is. After a proper set up, it stays in tune now and plays and sounds great after all the repairs. The guitar looks beautiful with the emerald quilted top too. I didn't even talk about the finish issues which I was able to fix as well. I recommend not purchasing if you do not know how to fix the issues yourself. It would not be worth paying someone to fix a guitar that cost you anywhere from $189 to $240. You are better off purchasing an Epiphone Les Paul, Michael Kelly Patriot, Vintage V100 or any ESP/LTD Eclipse models. Hell, I purchased a Les Paul husk from Guitar Fetish for $150 and it is one hell of a guitar. I got all the hardware from their site as well to build it. The only major thing I had to do to the neck was set the string height at the first fret and polish the frets. I put Dimarzio's in that bad boy!
Just got mine today! This guitar is great. Especially considering how much it cost. I've played everything from cheapo's to off-the-chart expensive guitars-some of which I thought were pieces of junk. And, this thing is beautiful, too. In the end, though, I don't care what a guitar looks like-I care about how it plays. I'm so glad I got this thing.
MAX there’s just one thing you’re leaving out when you do these guitar reviews please let us know if the guitar is just going straight into the amp or if there’s any effects in between the Guitar and the amp great videos as always keep them coming
Great job guitar maxx, keepn' real .like car honk ,back ground noise. The amp noise cool lol..your ch rulez!!! Hey man .where's that wieldn POWER METAL SWORD, 😊 VERY NICE! GUITAR..keep ROCK MAXX, YOU RULE MAN.
Thanks for providing great info on the Firefly guitars. Does this guitar have a master tone control and three volume controls for neck, middle and bridge pickups individually? I currently own three Firefly guitars. My first guitar was a FFSP Cobra Burst Les Paul style. My second is a white FFTL Telecaster style guitar with Les Paul style controls and block inlays in the fretboard. My third is a baritone guitar in sunburst color. I am completely satisfied with all of these guitars and I looking forward to adding one more guitar... maybe two more guitars to my collection. Thanks again for the excellent reviews.
Loved the video and sometime ago, based on your video, I purchased 2 AIO guitars play them regularly, but here is my question: Have you thought about demoing a bass guitar? If I missed it I am sorry.
I got my Firefly Camo Bullseye last week. Straight out the box it is Great ! I did have to get the dremel out and polish the frets because of the weird scratchy feel/sound. I put in a set of ZW EMG's and it is a Great guitar. The stock pickups are actually pretty good though. I think I'm going to order this one now ! I also have the Epi ZW version and this one feels the same.
That's a straight up Ace Frehley copy without the mugshot on the headstock.Sounds killer
My first thought as soon as he pulled it out!
True that

Love these 1 take videos! I appreciate the detail you put into these, tons of information. Thank you!
I just got the Firefly black LP Custom style guitar and now you just inspired me to get this guitar that I have been eyeing! Thank you Max!

What I love is how Max has guitars from all different price points on the wall. That’s truly awesome.
Thorough and fun review as always. You take all the shame out of budget guitars. We didn't have these options in the 90's.

I love the way you just free style play, instead of just playing a riff over and over, I have so many guitars, but still not even enough lol.
Great video. thanks for doing them
Thanks for the review, much appreciated.
You're welcome!
I was gonna get this guitar anyway but I went back and used your link. 😉
If you even get an affiliate that is. 😂 🤷♂️
Aloha from Hawaii,
I have this same guitar, same blueberry burst ( no glam ) no rounded frets,& it's a ' classic ' not a ' elite ',got it the summer of 2020 & luv it; it also sounds great. All I did was dress it,clean da pots, & lemon oil da neck.
And yes it's a BEAST of a guitar, mine is actually nicknamed " da beast ".
😉🤙
Damn! I’m definitely getting this one. It looks and sounds sick.
I appreciate your videos love all the guitars 😎👍
Great vid Max
nice! reminds me that I miss that modulus flea bass with the large flake that looks totally awesome as well. blue or silver both nice
Thank you!
Order this today this will be my second Firefly
Looks amazing and sounds like a beast.
Thinking of Jake today when i saw your shirt.
Love the old shortwave radio stuff in the background. Is that a Hallicrafters S38 or a Trio behind you?
Wiring is all 3 in the middle? Or 1 per selection? Pretty hot PU’s sounds like.😊
I have been guilty of commenting too early a time or two myself. I like the guitar. How are they doing it for 200 bucks man. That's crazy
Crack me up
Great Tshirt Max!!
Love your content.
I appreciate that!
Just bought a set of 9 to 42 Earnie Ball "Cobalt" for my Firefly bat with the "bat"inlays. Haven't tried them yet. Have you tried the Cobalt strings?
I would love to see a review of the Firefly HHH SG style (FFLGS) guitars. I'm wondering if they have the same thick tone!
Just want to say, so far I love every Firefly I have gotten. Yeah, that’s a total Ace Frehley copy lol. Plus….sweet shirt!!!
