Probably more of a 'yes.' I had read somewhere that there was a large, conservative Christian population in the south of the Netherlands (I have friends there who are part of the Reformed Church).
@@CRACKBONE7317 That is correct. We call it the Bible-belt. It runs from the Province of Zeeland across the Betuwe area and Veluwe to the northern provinces.
There is also a distinct separation between area's north of the big rivers (protestant christian) and south of the big rivers (catholic christian)
But this is fading because many Dutch left the church and we have new migrants from other cultures living all over the country that practice their own religions like muslims, boedhists, hindu, jewish, orthodox-christian
It's a complex subject.
1 thing is clear tho: 1 of the founding principles on which the Netherlands was founded is 'freedom of religion'.

It's not really uncommon. Plenty of people from Suriname (a former Dutch colony) have moved to the Netherlands, and Suriname has a large Hindu population due to Indians having been brought over there as indentured labourers. Hinduism is, in fact, the second largest religion in Suriname.

I am personally an atheist, I don't believe in any kind of religion. Most Dutch people could be prescribed as agnostic: they don't specifically believe in a certain religion, but also they don't rule it out completely. Most Dutch people don't seem to think and care much about religion, atleast this is what I have noticed with a lot of Dutch people in my surroundings. In this video, you also see some people who have a different cultural background, they tend to be more religious but the younger generations are usually more liberal than their parents and grandparents.
I'm an agnostic atheist myself. I don't know if gods exist or not, but I don't believe they do.
I was raised a catholic for a little while when I was really young, but when my father left the church, the rest of the family followed (my mother was already atheist). We've lived without religion since then. Most of the people I know have. It is quite rare for me to come across a religious person.

I am suprised that a country like the Netherlands still have young extreme religious people and I've also learned that a lot of schools are "religion schools"
Please correct me If I am wrong.
There are schools with a religious foundation, but they are limited to teaching about their religion's history and maybe a morning prayer. The state clearly dictates what has to be taught in school, so the religious part could be seen as different flavours of the same thing.
I was once in Urk and had some very bad experiences with the religious extremists there. It is quite interesting that a liberal country like the Netherlands has some weird extremly religious communities
@@Empobaer there is a history behind this. As protestantism spread from the northwest of the country, some people felt it was too liberal in it's interpretation of scripture, so they moved south. Because the south was mainly catholic, they settled in between. This created the Dutch bible belt, a pretty straight line that runs from the southwest to the northeast. They only represent a few percent of the country's inhabitants, but they remain very conservative.
@@taand4725 thank you for that insight! I always heard of that but didn't bother to look the history up. I kind of lived in the Bible belt (Ede). I know that everyone said it is more conservative there but I have to say that I never really experienced it this way. However, when driving through the countryside around Ede, it was definitely obvious from the clothing and so on.
@@Empobaer Notorious places like Haringvliet, Oudewater, Staphorst are full of rigid reformed protestants known as zwartkousen (black stockings). Very pushy, judgmental and convinced of their moral superiority. So they believe in the inferiority of outsiders, who according to them all have piercings and tattoos, do heroin and engage in gay orgies. They're also young earth creationists.. the rest of the country just laughs at them.

Nederland is één van de meest irreligieuze (westerse) landen die er is en tevens één van de meest gelukkige. Zelfs zonder Jezus gaat het dus best goed met ons.

Alleen al in nederland is meer dan 53% met klachten. 1 op de 4 loopt met psychische klachten. hoezo redden we het wel zelf. weet je wat het probleem is, er zit een gat is onze ziel en die proberen we op te vullen met alles wat deze maatschappij te bieden heeft. Maar dat verzadigt niet alleen jezus kan je werkelijk de vrede en rust geven als je vervult bent van Jezus. Hij zegt zelf in Matteüs 11:28-29

Graag deel ik met u het evangelie van redding in de dispensatie van God Zijn genade. “Genade kan gedefinieerd worden als de onverdiende gunst van God voor mensen die Zijn veroordeling verdienen.”
God rekent ons geen zonden aan omdat er al voor betaald is (elke zonde voor elke persoon). Christus werd gemaakt om de zonde van iedereen te zijn (2 Korintiërs 5:21). Volledige verzoening wordt echter pas bereikt als een individu zich "verzoent" met God (2 Korintiërs 5:20). Dit gebeurt door geloof in het evangelie van onze zaligheid. De hele mensheid is vergeven, maar niet iedereen gelooft het. Vergeven worden staat niet gelijk aan gered worden, redding komt door geloof. Redding wordt toegeëigend door geloof, vergeving van zonden NIET. Je zonden zijn vergeven, ongeacht je geloof. God had jouw geloof op Golgotha niet nodig, Hij had alleen Zijn Zoon nodig.
REDDING wordt alleen verkregen door op Christus te vertrouwen - via geloof in het woord van de waarheid (het evangelie van onze redding). Redding IS door werken, alleen niet die van onszelf. Het is niet uit onszelf, maar door de gave van Gods genade dat we gered worden. Bij het HOREN van het evangelie, als we het evangelie GELOVEN, worden we verzegeld met de heilige Geest van belofte tot de dag van verlossing (Efeziërs 1:13-14). Een verloren ziel kan alleen worden gered door erop te vertrouwen dat Christus alles heeft gedaan wat nodig is voor onze redding door middel van Zijn volbracht kruiswerk. Romeinen tot en met Filemon zijn de enige boeken in de bijbel die uitleg geven over redding voor vandaag. In die boeken vinden we dat redding alleen door geloof is, alleen in Christus, zonder-enige-werken-van-wat-van-aard-dan-ook. Christus stierf voor uw zonden en is opgestaan voor uw rechtvaardiging (1 Korintiërs 15:1-4). Stel uw geloof in wat Hij deed in plaats van in wat u hebt gedaan, doet of gaat doen. Redding is niet vergeving krijgen van je zonden, het is geloven dat ze dat al zijn. (2 Korintiërs 5:19)

I will definitely have to agree on this one with you Louis, this video is called what do Dutch people believe in and it’s not accurate at all because people with different cultural roots will believe in different religions, so no conclusions should be drawn from this video, it’s not accurate at all if you want to get an idea of religious distribution in the Dutch society. It’s sad that these people have such cultural confusion, they can’t feel belonging for either of the cultures so they try to cope with that by over claiming The Netherlands and own it as if it’s their country. (I am not Dutch, I moved here few years ago, but I find it really sad that it looks like they have more rights than Dutch people or they’re untouchable somehow. I try to respect everyone here and feel very welcomed and feel home, but it’s an entirely different thing to try to impose your own culture.) As we saw in the video the reason of their religion is what is taught at home, so there is no questioning, there is pure acceptance.

That's interesting. Why is it sad to you? I think it is quite an achievement that The Netherlands is one of the most irreligious (western) countries. And the religious and irreligious seem to live quite harmoniously together.

The unity between the two groups is definitely an "achievement," if you want to describe a Christian denomination's indifference to the vast majority of a nation being hellbound as an achievement. It is a shame to see a nation in such a state, and one that I have such a great admiration for, too.

Its a typical accent of 3rd generation moroccan/turkish immigrants in the Netherlands. Because they mostly stick to their own social group, they have their own accent which is heavily influenced by their original languages. Sometimes they cant even speak Arabic or Turkish anymore but still speak Dutch with this accent. Other times, they are bilingual.

Mijn persoonlijke mening is dat iedereen het recht moet hebben om een of geen religie te hebben en te geloven wat hij/zij wil, en dit zal ik nagenoeg altijd respecteren, al kan ik er wel bij zeggen dat mijns inziens uiteindelijk ieder mens Agnostisch is, wat zoveel betekent als 'iemand die zegt geen kennis te (kunnen) bezitten over de vraag of er een God is of niet' (het woord 'Agnost' komt uit het oude Grieks). Iemand die stellig durft te beweren dat er met zekerheid een god bestaat is iemand die wellicht zelf een God is, en daarom deze kennis heeft, maar dat is onwaarschijnlijk, waarschijnlijker is dat het iemand is die zonder bewijs vast houdt aan hetgeen hem/haar verteld is (vaak via of met steun van familie of gemeenschap).
Een Agnost sluit dus niks uit, en daardoor kan een waar Agnost vaak respect opbrengen voor nagenoeg alle geloven.

I would like to share with you the gospel of our salvation in the dispensation of God's grace. “Grace can be defined as the undeserved favor of God for people who deserve His condemnation.”
God does not hold sins against us because they have already been paid for (every sin for every person.) Christ was made to be everyone's-every-sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). However, full reconciliation is not achieved until an individual "reconciles himself" to God (2 Corinthians 5:20). This happens upon belief of the gospel of our salvation. All humanity is forgiven but not all believe it. Being forgiven does not equal being saved, salvation comes by faith. Salvation is appropriated by faith, forgiveness of sins is NOT. Your sins were forgiven regardless of your belief. God did not need your faith at Calvary, He only needed His Son.
SALVATION is only gained by trusting Christ - via belief in the word of truth (the gospel of our salvation.) Salvation IS by works, just not our own. It is not of ourselves, but through the gift of God's grace that we are saved. Upon HEARING the gospel, if we BELIEVE the gospel, we are sealed with the holy Spirit of promise unto the day of redemption (Ephesians 1:13-14). A lost soul can only be saved by trusting Christ to have done everything necessary for our salvation though His finished cross-work. Romans thru Philemon are the only books in the bible that explain salvation for today. In those books we find salvation is by faith alone, in Christ alone, without-any-works-of-any-kind-at-anytime. Christ died for your sins, and has risen for your justification (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) Put your faith in what He did rather than what you have done, are doing, or are going to do. Salvation is not getting-your-sins-forgiven, it's believing they already are. (2 Corinthians 5:19)

I don’t know what to think about those young Muslim guys. Their answers are so definite, and talk about how Muslims have religion as number one, still they don’t seem to serious when they’re laughing and so on. They make me very confused.

I think they might be living in some kind of conflict as they’re not really following the religion, but still they might be coming from some kind of strict background, or at least they know they “should” behave in a certain way. I usually find this kind of people quite aggressive at least. And it’s very confusing, you don’t really know what they are, are they religious or not? I actually think they would not like to be Muslims, but family and culture are holding them back. It’s like they’re living with each leg in a different world, trying not to be split apart. Or something.

These guys are not an anomaly. This phenomenon has spread significantly in Islamic societies, especially among the new generations. They love Islam and consider it an identity. The truth is that they are not very familiar with Islam, and they may perform actions that are forbidden in Islam, yet they may have great religious extremism and may join terrorist groups and may hate the country in which they live, such as the Netherlands. Because it does not implement what Islam commands, I see that Europeans are very naive when they allow in millions of Muslim immigrants and think that they, like everyone in the world, can adapt and accept the values of society. The truth is that the vast majority of Muslim immigrants view the countries that receive them as a good opportunity to impose their religion because these countries do not adhere to their people to any religion, and they have great tolerance for any thought, and this naturally gives room for the growth of Islamic thought in these countries. The problem is that Islamic thought does not accept the existence of a state that does not implement Islam or abide by it. Even the least extremist Muslims think that Europe should embrace Islam even if this is achieved through wars in the future.
