  • Experts predict that many churches in the Netherlands have to close in the coming years. The church in the village of Kilder, a small village in the east of the Netherlands, has been for sale for almost two years. The future of the parish and its parishioners is still uncertain. How do the villagers of Kilder feel about this? The Dutch Catholic weekly Katholiek Nieuwsblad visited a yearly feast of the ceremonial shooting club in Kilder to take a closer look.

    While 100s of new churches are built in India everyday, My story begins like this, I see the Lord's hand from the time of my conception in my life, My Mom wanted to abort me, I was saved due to the efforts of a Doctor who is a Catholic Nun, All my childhood memories are flooded with how I searched for God, I was very much involved in all religious activities but I still did not have the real peace in his heart. I often wondered, “After all these religious ceremonies which I am performing every day, am I in right relationship with God? Is he drawing closer to me? My earliest encounter with Christ was big image of the Sacred Heart, I always felt called by Him, During classes and even at break I used to look at Him, the day His eyes met mine, He never left me, I still was a stauch Hindu, I wanted to overcome my karma by performing devotional rituals, but fear of death and reincarnation had overcome me, the words of Christ to Martha has set me free " I am the Resurrection", I followed Jesus right from I was 11, I was hated by my family and relatives for my faith in Him, but the Lord was gracious enough to take me into His fold when I was 16, I was baptized along with my Mom and maternal Grandmother into the Church. Jesus my Savior, my King my all in all changed my life, there is no meaning to life without Him.

    I think the saddest part of this is that the people who were going to Mass won't go to another village. I don't know the logistics/practical situation in this particular village, perhaps the next closest parish is far away.
    But if the next village has Mass, (or let's assume it is otherwise very easy to go to Mass elsewhere if one desired) and these people won't go, it means that they don't actually believe anything that the Church teaches, or in the true presence. It seems more like a civic pride thing than actually believing. They're just going through the motions on Sunday - which is probably why younger generations don't want anything to do with Church. The older generation doesn't actually believe, why would the younger generation?
    I almost can't blame them - many modern liturgies are horrible. They focus too much on the congregation and too little on God. We hand out the Holy Eucharist, which we believe is the body and blood of Jesus Christ, like it is Halloween Candy. The lines for confession are short, but lines for Communion are long. No wonder people don't take their faith seriously.

    • @VillePelkonen-dg6wx
      @VillePelkonen-dg6wx 11 місяців тому +4

      Blaming the liturgy is way too simplifying (although I do like the latin mass myself better too). Cardinal Eijk quoted an author from the 1940s in lifesitenews that going to church and being catholic was more of an identity and community thing in a largely protestant country where catholics were discriminated against. People didn't really feel a deep bond to the beliefs of the church. So when the demonic wave of secularism swept the west starting from the sixties, the rootless faith of the people fell apart.
      Makes me really think, maybe the vast majority of churchgoers in the past centuries weren't true believers either? Who knows.

    • @TruLuan
      @TruLuan 11 місяців тому +2

      @@VillePelkonen-dg6wxthis is part of why I've been conflicted between staying Catholic or becoming Orthodox. The Orthodox liturgy is unchanged and the believers of the Eastern Orthodox faith seem to take their faith much more seriously. I'm still unsure though.

    • @VillePelkonen-dg6wx
      @VillePelkonen-dg6wx 11 місяців тому

      @TruLuan I hear what you are saying because I've had the same temptation. But it's a VERY bad idea just because the orthodox outer appearance looks nice. Here's why:
      First of all Vatican II in Lumen Gentium in paragraph 14 teaches that those who know the catholic church to be established by Christ and do not wish to join it or remain in it cannot be saved.
      Also, disloyalty and lukewarmness of the church's members is not a new thing. Imagine if you jumped into the protestants side during the deformation. Althoigh your local clergy and congregation might be corrupt, do you imagine saving your soul by that?
      Or imagine a prophet of the old testament starting to leaving the people of Israel because of witnessing the religious and moral corruption of them. Leaving the boat in a time of crisis is NOT the solution.
      Abandoning the boat in a time of crisis has never saved ANYONE. Just staying loyal even if you have to do it alone has. It has even produced saints like st. Benedict. St. Padre Pio who wasn't happy with the new liturgy said to a nun who was thinking to leave her order for the same reason "They are wrong and you are right, but you must obey".
      If you can though, maybe look into another parish (because there can be great differences between them) or even seeking out the latin mass in an FSSP parish for now?

    • @TruLuan
      @TruLuan 11 місяців тому

      @@VillePelkonen-dg6wxWell said thank you. However, technically speaking, the Catholic Church also says to be saved one needs to live by the apostles Creed, have your sacraments, and receive the Eucharist. The Catholic church even acknowledges that the sacraments and the worship by the Orthodox are valid. And the Orthodox also have a lineage that goes back to Christ as well. I think that paragraph from lumen gentium is referring to someone who switches to protestantism or another religion like Muslim or Buddhism. I could be wrong though.

    • @VillePelkonen-dg6wx
      @VillePelkonen-dg6wx 11 місяців тому

      My understanding on the Vatican II document on ecumenism is that despite it acknowledges the apostolic roots of the orthodox church, they are still without full communion with the mystical body of Christ the church, hence they are called "separated brethren". Therefore, to put yourself from the church headed by the legitimate successor of st. Peter to a community with less communion doesn't seem like a step towards God. To be less in communion with the Mystical Body, is to be less in communion with Christ.

      Ah, you're not aware how it works is Sweden.
      Let's begin simple.
      1 person rapes 5 women, each 5 times.
      How many rape cases is that?
      1? 5? 25?
      In Sweden it would be 25. Each case of rape is seen as a count towards rape.
      Abused wife raped every day for a year is 365 cases of rape.
      In most other countries this is not the case.
      Not only that but if you know more than one language you would know that direct translations are often not possible or not an exact fit.
      For example, is using a dildo to penetrate a woman against her will rape?
      In the UK this wouldn't be the case, it literally requires a vagina and penis over there for it to count as rape.
      A woman can not rape a man in the UK penal code because she doesn't have a penis. Equivelant punishment is of course a thing, it will just be registered under "sexual assault" or something similar.
      The above issues don't only apply to rape but to every form of crime when compared between countries.
      The Rape and Sweden is just a big outlier on this.
      But things like "breakins", "assault", etc. can easily be defined very differently from country to country.
      Is yelling at somebody assault? Might be defined like that in some countries.
      Some will divide up assault in many different words, depending on level of the crime.
      Stats are all well and good but when Sweden has 1/20 as many people in jail and 5 times the homicide rate, which puts the US on par with Kenya it makes your claim seem rather silly.

      It's basically "the sun" of Germany.
      And again, you're 5 times more likely to get killed in the US.
      That's a stat that's relatively consistent between nations as well because, you know, murder. little chance of it being seen differently in different countries.

    Extremely sad to hear. Vatican II watered down everything in the church and the Netherlands is a prime example. With supposedly only 4% now attending weekly Mass in the Netherlands, the majority of young people have been brought up to believe absolutely nothing, except instant gratification. My maternal side was originally from Roermond and until the 70's everyone there in our extended family went to Mass each week. Equally, we looked forward to joining our friends, neighbours, and countrymen in meeting our beliefs, and obligations. We were a stronger country, and society, because of it.

      Do you seriously think young people would be attracted to the Tridentine Mass, which is recited in a language people do not understand, and portions of which are in "low tones" (e.g. the Canon, including the Consecration) which are not audible to congregation? Another thing to keep in mind is that the Netherlands has been largely a Protestant country for several centuries now.

      I returned to the church as a young man and I was attracted to the Tridentine Mass. My whole life is touched by my connection to the traditional faith now. It only took a few months for me to understand the latin of the most important parts of the Mass, and for the rest of the Mass I have a missal with Latin and English. I pray all through the day and spend lots of time on spiritual reading every single day. I wish there was a TLM every day near me, and if there was I would be there every day. I do go to the NO on weekdays but I can't stand how the priest puts his mask on at different times and uses hand sanitizer during the consecration, it is very cringe and distracting to see him do that. I also find the female servers and Female Extraordinary Ministers distracting at the local NO. The most Blessed Sacrament which is the body of Our Lord should only be touched by priests with exception only for actual extraordinary circumstances. Wanting Mass to be over a few minutes sooner is not an extraordinary circumstance, it would be better for the congregation who have received or are waiting to receive to be still and pray during that time.
      In response to your question, I can say that from my experience as well as other young men at my parish it is certain that some young men are attracted to the Tridentine Mass. I hope that one of the TLM Societies will purchase this old Church and bring the true faith back to this community.@@JohnParks-zc1pn

    There was a point in the 60s and 70s that the USA, with the exception of Poland, was the West's most religious country. In many ways it still is. but we seem to be going the way of the Netherlands in particular and the Benelux countries in general. Canada has bottomed out completely. One common element is the fact that religion and God seem to be be simply irrelevant. Neither seem to have either meaning or importance in the lives of many. The Benelux countries, who sent many absolutely dedicated missionaries throughout the world, like the amazing St. Joseph Damien de Veuster of Molokai'i, seemed to simply collapse under the pressure and shock of the loss of faith among their countrywo/men, and they simply gave up. The same in Canada. They simply were at a loss on how to open the doors of faith in an increasingly secularized world. In all fairness to the clergy, worldwide we are all bewildered by the phenomenon and are at a loss to know what to do. In the USA and in Canada, we are seeing sinister results which should call us to consider the reasons for these black holes that are appearing in our socio-cultural reality - socio-culturally generated black holes that are crushing lives into nothingness and meaninglessness with their seemingly infinite, destructive gravitational pull, or at best we are all caught in the the inescapable event horizons of these black holes, mindlessly, listlessly and endlessly orbiting this gravitational nothingness. We may look like normal human beings, but we're not. We've been turned into two dimensional caricatures of human persons. Worse yet, we are the hapless victims that have been reduced to aberrant, pathetically deformed zombies to be force stuffed into the one dimension of the binary, one-zero world, of computers, celluar phones and tablets.

They are willingly closing off avenues of grace by refusing the go to Mass anywhere else. The celebration of the Holy Eucharist is what Mass is about, it is where our Lord lives. It is like saying I don’t want to go to heaven, I want to stay in Kilder…🤷🏼‍♂️. Very sad.

    If the changes to the Mass had not been made in the 1960s and 70s, you would not have this decline in Catholicism throughout the West. The New Mass lacks the reverence the Traditional Mass has and, as a result, devotion and love for the Catholic Faith has slowly disappeared over the decades. If Catholics want their religion to grow, they need to return to Tradition.

    Catholicism dissappeared from Netherlands long before Vatican II, when calvinists under Wilhelm of Orange and the other corrupt calvinist nobles took power and created the dutch republic. Also, not like Netherlands was as devoted as other parts of Europe, why do people think Calvinism was so easily accepted and almost no opposition to it raised? Dutch, if ever catholic, were clearly tepid and lukewarm catholics, reason why they later adopted an easier religion and now are atheists.

      Simply not true. catholicism may have lost its place in the government but to say that all of the Netherlands "lost" catholicism since Willem of Orange is just not true at all. The South of the country was STAUNCHLY catholic until the modernists took over (just like any other place in the west). My grandmother and all her family lived traditional catholic lives. went to a catholic school organized by nuns, went to mass (the traditional mass that is) every sunday and often daily and lived a fully sacramental life within the church. so don't talk bad about all of the Netherlands. thank you.

I had from grade 2 a very personal and strong relationship with Jesus, I am now 83 and without my saviour and Lord along with the Father and the Holy Spirit I would be lost. I put my trust in in Him, He is always been there during 42 years of nursing and all the years of our family’s good and bad times. I know he was there when my husband passed 27 years ago. The Church needs to do some serious thinking & the thinking needs to be such that encourages creative means to permit small congregations to continue to function for ordinary worship (which should be extra-ordinary) & for local customs/traditions. Dutch communities need to interact with the Church Bishops, all the way to the Pope to open their eyes to these needs. Reaching out to the youth of your community is essential, if you are to have a congregation that is not almost exclusively elderly. That is what needs to be done, without going the dreadful route of becoming "Christian Nationalists." Your community may be small, but your needs are valid. Dutch Catholics are a valid & important part of the cultural & spiritual landscape, if you want it. It will take work. There will be no shortcuts.

    It's best to hear the voice of the Lord yourself by quietly reading the Holy Bible and meditating.
    Ask the Lord to help you understand what you are reading about. (Not like the Ethiopian eunuch, Acts 8:26).
    Acts 5:29 We ought to obey God rather than men.
    Acts 11:18 Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.
    Romans 10:13 For whoever calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
    (Look up the following verses).
    Luke 13:1-5
    Luke 5:32
    Proverbs 28:13
    Acts 11:18
    The Church is the living body of those who are "Born Again". The Book of Ephesians tells us that.
    Do shy away from the doctrines of Catholicism. When you are born again, you will know. Thank you.

    You need to make the intellectual effort to use the basic functions on a scientific calculator. Have you? You need to study the positions of the cities on the world map. Did you? You need to realise the statistics on it are 'scri[pture. Do you?

    You should donate to the orthodox church because they keep the traditions.....

      The Roman Catholic Church never abandoned tradition but the people there have because of lack of formation and lack of will to go to Mass. Just like during Soviet times the orthodox people abandoned their faith while the orthodox church never changed during that time. Selling the church to orthodox schismatics isn't the answer because the church will still be empty.
