Mate I love your channels! Thank you for making the videos. One comment, please enjoy every moment you can with your old man. You obviously have a really great relationship with him. Savior every second! Cheers to you and your Dad, mate!
I put a 3" exhaust on my 200 series landcruiser from the turbos back, with no mufflers or anything - it sounded a bit like this... so loud every head would turn, no matter how lightly you used the throttle! I had to add a muffler to make it drivable in public! Why did the boost max out? Could it be belt slip? I would have assumed a supercharger would keep climbing in boost as the revs go up, but I have no experience with them.
Hi mate, yeah sometimes lowder isn't always better. We did have a small amount of belt slip but that's not the main issue. As the rpm of the engine goes up so does the rpm of the charger so in theory your correct in saying the boost should also climb how as the rpm increases so does the amount of air the engine needs. So it actually works that the more rpm the engine and charge spin the boost level actually stays the same. Hopefully that makes sense.
Hey mate, Just want to stop in and say that i love the build, and we need a couple more exhaust clips haha, I'm going big gated turbo on my di zd30, and it'll be ready for the first startup soon
Tim, As you say the pulleys need to be redone somehow. I am thinking the bottom pulley being larger would work better; that way no mods are needed up the charger end so you don't lose the strength. Airflow with a different airbox and snorkel could make that other difference And yeh.... you need a damm good muffler!!
Thanks Jim, I have ordered a larger diameter round of alloy to remake the lower pulley after all the port work is done. Also hane a new triple pass baffled muffler to install so fingers crossed that shuts it up a bit. Not too stressed about the airbox yet as the pod filter is probably the less restrictive of almost anything I can make with a snorkel.
Great episode I really enjoyed and it made me smile 👍🏻 you say you wanted more boost right. I would think that having a larger lower pulley would make less boost. Are you hoping that the charger mods will increase air flow and that way you will be able to run a larger bottom pulley. I'm sure all will be explained in the next one 🙂 great to see you experimenting.
@@joelnagle2214 thanks mate. A larger bottom pulley will turn the top pulley faster for a given rpm so should make more boost. I'm hoping that removing the restrictions in the blower will allow it to move more air for a given rpm so hopefully increase the boost but again that's all guess work at this point.
If I spin it faster it will indeed produce more air but you start to push the rotors past the point of there efficiency and that just creates heat. Unfortunately the only way forward if I wanted to keep with the charger would have been to get a physically large unit.
The blower. Seems that there are too many variables. Engine configuration , flow, rpm. Etc so horses & hand grenades i.e. close enough. Diesels don't spin. Can it be leak tested?
@HarpersShed ok I tend to start typing mid sentence. You thought it would make more boost. But I don't see how it can be benchmarked i.e. this many lbs at this many rpm. There are to many parameters. If you were using a set up commonly used then yes but. Sorry Mr whomever. Guess I need to type slower for you.
F'k me Tim thats utterly bonkers mate (UK expression, mad, crazy awesome etc) you never disappoint.... ever That exhaust sound was both scary and awesome, Im not a tech head and can't help with tech info but with channel moral youre nailing it!!
Hi mate, however you got here I'm always happy for the support. Yep that's me and yeah still have the boat, it actually has its own channel now called Harper's boat shed if you're interested. Still plugging away at the repairs on the old girl and trying to find time to take it out every now and then. Cheers Tim
@@HarpersShed Hi Tim thanks for the reply, I thought it was the Boat dude with the shed part lol I had a mate put a supercharger on a V8 Ford same deal had too muck around with the pulleys too get it making enough PSI Hope you get it sorted, I will check back in, Nice Machine work Bro and welding, Tell me about finding time with Projects lol, Seems too get harder and harder Glad you're still got the boat she is a Classic Take care bro
Dad purchased the vehicle with a blow engine. The turbo failure was the issue we were trying to find a solution to. The current engine ( after the rebuild) has over 80k on it now and still happy but the turbos still seem to be somewhat of an issue.
That was cool. Please keep going, can't wait to see what you do with it next!
Thanks mate, there will certainly be a follow up episode coming soon 👍

Thanks mate for the kind words and very sound advice 👍
Wow ! Go the Patrol ! Very cool to see the ZD30Di worked on and parts fabricated from scratch !! I'm very interested in this to see more! 🛻📹🤙😎
Love this build! Completely unique and interesting. Low down torque should be nice once its all sorted.
Thanks mate, time will tell if it all works in the end. Won't be from lack of trying though 👍
I've always wanted to do a compound set up. Feed the supercharger with boost from a turbo.
It would of been cool on this build but the plumbing work have been a big job
Typically people have the blower feed the turbo's as the blower is ready from the get go.
Nice work tim ,very impressed.
Cool fresh air is needed for airfilter not hot engine bay air .
Completely agree mate, I will make an airbox and snorkel as soon as we can prove that the charger setup is actually going to work.

Thanks mate, the next episode has a bit more exhaust footage for you. What size turbo are you running?
Well done man. I hope u get more boost. How do u plan ur builds or wing it?
Thanks mate, I tend to do a bit of both. I like to have a rough plan in my head then just start welding things together 😀

Nick work. I'd say supercharger is only keeping up with engine cfm , will supercharger speed pump more air .😊

english pls lol
I would say there are less variables with the blower, a leak test is probably a good idea though.
Lol, I got what he meant 👍

Lol thanks mate, yeah the exhaust was very wild. Glad you like the content 👍
How worn out is your charger? From what I've read if you find a supercharger off a Jag, they are more efficient.
The charger itself is in good condition.
This is awesome 👌
Thanks mate, would have made for a better series if it had actually worked
I donno how I got here but here I am Interesting
