    Proof tone is in the hands. SRV still sounded like SRV playing a tele.

      There's a video on UA-cam of SRV and his band on some daytime talk show, and eventually he whips out a guitar and starts playing it. But the guitar is a gibson Flying V, of all things. And somehow he makes it sound like a strat when he's playing it. He's playing a mahogany guitar with 2 humbuckers and yet it still sounds like SRV. I always thought the "tone is in the fingers" thing was nonsense until I saw that video. He made a flying V sound like a strat. It's crazy

      Tone isn’t in his Stratocaster(s) or his Doctored 1964 Fender Vibroverb or his Dumble Steel String Singer, his Vox King Wah, his MXR Loop Selector (AB Box/line splitter), either of his two Ibanez TS-9 Tube Screamers (he had one on each side of the line splitter set the same way)…
      his tone was is in head

      @@lect0n7 very nice run down on well know equipment but you left out his (tattered duct taped stitching cord....& 13 gauge strings...too
      . which only thing I could think of would be bringing the voltage and watts down just a little bit..

      @@lect0n7 totally depends on which year he was playing. He only occasionally stacked the tube screamers, and most of his '83 gigs he only played with one

    I wish there was more footage of Stevie shredding on a tele. That sounded amazing. I am a blues player and I play a MIM 72 Thinline Reissue. Tele's can wail and just aren't for country.

    Jimmy and Stevie just exude Texan like an an armadillo eating a bbq sandwich. Their styles were different and stevie’s seems more technical usually, but there’s something retro and just cool about Jimmy’s stage presence and playing.

    Look at Stevie's face after Kim leans in, a bit after 3:52. That solo he took was a big F you to Kim Wilson, not to Jimmy. I guarantee it. Probably for restraining his older brother in the Thunderbirds.
    Kim thinks he's f'ing Elvis, here.

    • @duffman18
      @duffman18 2 роки тому +3

      Didn't Stevie once punch Kim Wilson in the face because of it? It's been like 15 years since I read that biography of SRV but I seem to remember that happening at some point. Although I also remember he punched his brother too. Maybe I'm confusing the two incidents or maybe it was just the one incident.

    proof tone is in the fingers. sounded like stevey from the jump. even on a tele. i really believe his tone is mostly in his picking hand. believe me im no SRV. but i have extremely heavy picking hand and my musician and non musician friends say i sometimes sound SRV LIKE. (obviously i am no where close or will ever top the legend) but its all about that heavy picking hand.

    • @sgt.thundercok4704
      @sgt.thundercok4704 2 роки тому +1

      I agree, for the most part. Not just a heavy hand, but always raking. A lot of he sound is in the other strings that are struck but may be heavily muted, somewhat muted, somewhat audible and maybe with one or more of any of those bent slightly or more depending on what he's going for. Always getting that 'thrashing/choking' sound out of the Strat.
