Robby Robinson I worked in a state prison for 19 years, many years I was the weight pit officer. Lemme tell ya bruzz, those were some committed dedicated souls. Brutal leg sessions outside in that muddy ruddy pit gutted out by all sorts of thugs, yeah I hopped under the squat bar a few dozen times and there is no pity on a quitty. Platz, and you, are royalty inside. Your names are always in the mix. Keep bustin’ it up!!!
I remember I did a to failure squat workout, I had earbuds in. At one point I’m on the ground feeling the burn and the pump, I overhear a group of people laughing that it looks like I’m gonna shit myself. I realized 2 things: my leg day is going great if it seems like that. My muscles were feeling a burn, not a pain. I knew I was doing the workout correctly. I realized that same group had been going to the gym longer than me and I saw no improvement on them. I felt good inside my head. I realized my life in the gym was only starting.
I needed this. I feel like I'm going to pass out if I do one more rep...maybe I should just say "screw it" and keep going. PLEASE KEEP PLATZ ON THIS CHANNEL!
The first time I heard Tom Platz say he was nervous before squatting, I breathed a sigh of relief. I thought it was just me. Listening to his motivational speeches, Tom Platz is in my head on leg day. Though I can no longer squat, I can do hacks. I'm nervous, my stomach turns, because, as he said, I know what is coming. At times, I've had to put on a "mellow" song to calm down before that first working set. Yet, Tom Platz is correct. If you leave the gym knowing you didn't give it your all, it's worse than the pain during the leg workout. It seriously is a mental game, as subjecting oneself to such pain is actually counterintuitive. The body's natural defense mechanisms are avoid pain. And if the legs aren't sore for 3-4 days after, I'm upset. I'd love the opportunity to train legs with Tom Platz there, pushing me to new personal goals. Mr. Platz, come back home to Pittsburgh. We'll train legs!
You have to go into the gym with the attitude that this workout is the most important thing in your life. Then when you leave the gym you have to remember that it's not.
@@OldSchoolLabs thanks for response...i remember back in the day when lou ferrigno came to Colombia for some seminars.. I didn't see him but he seemed a good guy..
Man dont EVER keep this man's thoughts off ur page old school. His words presence and attitude r unprecedented. This is is definitely what we need. What hardcore is about! Thanks Tom platz thanks old school. Much respect.
Tom is motivation personified, besides being a humble and honest guy. This era of “bodybuilders” who seem all the same would need to care less about dieting, instagram stories and to focus more on personalizing their own path. You can still see that light in Tom’s eyes even after all his achievements and his retiring from competitions.
Great advice for leg day which most if not all people secretly fear. Tom Platz is an absolute gent. I went to Golds Venice in 1995, hadn’t been training long and saw him right next to me. Unwittingly at the time I broke an unwritten gym rule by shaking his hand and asking for a photo. Not something I should have done in hindsight but Tom not only obliged, he stopped and gave me a few minutes of his time chatting away. A minute later he was back in his zone training like a beast. A pleasant life long memory.
Whenever leg day comes around, I get real anxious. I've listened to Tom talk about how he feels when squatting before and after and I understand the feeling. It honestly scares me when I'm about to workout because I'm always so nervous. But, as he says, you can't say no to the challenge. Take the opportunity and never give up. By far my biggest role model when it comes to bodybuilding.
BEST VIDEO EVER! thank you mr Platz! I was in a bad mood today. I was doubting my dreams, my goals to the gym, my goals to life. Now, I am thinking, that if you trully want something, you will achieve it!
Tom platz mentality not applies to leg days but to anything if you really want that bad, that's why i always respect this man from bottom of my heart, still learning and will always be learning from him
" If you give up on your dreams you have nothing left!" Wow I thought I was watching videos about proper squat form. I discovered Tom Platz and now I'm like inspired about life.
It makes an old quote come to mind... “what is bravery without a dash of recklessness?” Your words are gold Mr Platz. The mind must be strong before the body can ever become strong. Accept your death and go into the unknown.
All class. Would love to pick his brain about training in the old days. Guy is still inspirational way past his prime...gets you fired up just listening to him. We are blessed to still have him.
Yes Tom ; i believe your schooling of 5 more reps is the key to success and even 5 more will open the door to achieving total pump and muscle growth cheers Tom a true Champion Bodybuilder . i could not get to see you when you visited Birmingham England in 1985 at Ron Davis Gym . I wish you all the Best for the future Tom.
Thank you old school. Thank you so much for that. Every Tom platz speech is better than any motivational video out there. Its the absolute motivation! More Tom platz !!
This is a reason who Sergio Oliva, Jr. is using Platz - all about intensity and focus to optimize and maximize gains for leg day to be the best. If I have Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness for the next 4-5 days I've done my job with Legs especially, but the laser-focus concentrated intensity applies to training back, delts, calves, pecs, abs or especially "weak points" we may have genetically or from neglectful, improper training or not enough intensity. "Back in my day it was either be a Priest or be a Bodybuilder!". Love it Tom and Old School Labs! Keep 'Em Coming! Best, Dave in Wisconsin
I love the feeling where u cannot do anymore reps ,but you clench ur teeth, push out into the belt, and explode like a dynomite for those last few reps. That is the way of the Golden Eagle
I love pld school in the 80s i only squat for leg and boy did i have some legs yes i still go to the gym to hell with it.if i cant squat i will not go to the gym thank you sir top , respect
Yes please a question for Mr. Tom. Regardkng warm reps and sets. I've heard it said in gyms that why waste muscle energy on warm up reps sets when this will tire the muscles and mind out for the more important heavier weight and lower or higher rep sets. In other words go straight to the heavier intense training syraight away. Id love hear Tom's view of that. Kindest wishes
Question for Mr. Platz, Were there ever any times throughout all your years of squatting that you ever had to reevaluate your squatting form and adjust because your form was a little off? This has happened to me a few times and it is rather discouraging. I do get over it, but are there any methods mentally getting over this faster? Thank you so much for your time! Adam Freeman
Sir.... Can you please kindly give a video of how you trained your upper body ? How did you pushed yourself ? Of course you have the best legs in bodybuilding of all time... Still how did you trained your upper body... ???
Prisoners should be punished with a Tom Platz leg workout.

Even the non violent offenders?
A Tom Platz leg workout is not a punishment, its a rite of passage for anyone who wants to build half decent legs.
The Golden Eagle Hahahaha! Awesome!
The Golden Eagle How about making political candidates have to get through one of Tom's leg days to be considered as a participant.
Listening Tom Platz it’s the best pre workout ever
Asking Tom Platz what's his favorite colour, his answer: 5 more reps.
Green!!!

I've started to imagine my personal Tom Platz coach screaming at me. Legit helps to go to my limit.

Sir.... Can you please kindly give a video of how you trained your upper body ? How did you pushed yourself ? Of course you have the best legs in bodybuilding of all time... Still how did you trained your upper body... ???
I have recorded and edited a mp3 audio with Tom Platz yelling and pushing for one more rep. So when I train legs I listen to it.
That's awesome! The motivation can't get any better than that! 💪 Thanks for sharing!
On the door to that room it simply states: "NO MATTER WHAT!!"
Awesome

Who ever disliked this video does not have the mental skills to destroy legs #feelsbadman
This would be just as intense even without the background music
