The thermostat could be set too high. It could be a bad capacitor. There are plenty of videos online showing how to test and change one. It could be a bad compressor. Just a few things that came to mind.
@@jefferyb304 ok it's throwing a code (AS) so from what I can find that's the auto sensor .. .. sense I can't turn the temp up it's running at it's coldest and freezing up.. does that sound about right?
Same exact ac unit that quit on me last night. All the lights come on, but that's it. Need to call service # on side & see if maybe they can tell me what's up. Just stopped all of the sudden, wish I knew why or maybe an idea? Good to know it's apx 4 yrs old, wondered, knew it wasn't to long ago I got it.
I bought this air conditioner used and the cord needed to be replaced because it was getting hot when in use. We replaced it but it's still getting hot. The cord we took off of it didn't have the little fittings on the ends, just wires connected to wires in the air conditioner. Well I replaced it how I seen that it was connected. I cut the fitting little things off and connected wire to wires. The cord is still getting hot. I hope that the problem is not having those little fittings on the ends of the wires and maybe that's causing to much power to run through the cord. You recon that's might be a possiblity as to why it's heating up? Thank you in advanced for reading my huge comment lol.
Push the reset button on the circuit breaker at the end of the power cord. If the cord/circuit is good, the temperature reading will illuminate on the control panel at center of unit.
That looks like the one we have, ours is a 15,000 BTU. I think you fixed it, if the starting cap was disconnected that would cause it and the fins being bent could be the other.
***** The outside coil was so bad looking, I told the former owner it looked like it had been vandalized as if someone took a screwdriver handle to it or something like that. This AC started acting up around the same time another incident supposedly happened. I'm also going to take a look at an AC that belongs to a friend of theirs in a few days.
Get some "hardware cloth", it is 1/4" screening you can buy at your hardware store and mount it to the rear of your A/C, that should prevent someone from hitting it with a baseball, etc.
***** That sounds like a great Idea. I got this from someone that had another AC on hand. I believe that one has a few more BTU's ( they needed that ). I know for sure it has a metal screen on it outside.
My compressor won't kick on any clue why that could be? The fan will blow and all lights work but it never blows cold

@@rcrehab9623 I'm guessing a sensor needs replaced. I'm really not sure though.

It could have a dead run capacitor. Those are inside the unit. There are several videos online about replacing those.
