This was one of my favorite movies as a kid grow up in the 80’s. I literally wore that VHS tape out. Now I’m in my mid 40’s and I still watch that movie at once a year. Such a shame neither of the helicopters were saved.
It remains one of my faves too. Had the model kits years ago; built it but later gave it to my cousin. Amazing to think that the writer of ALIEN, Dan O'Bannon, also wrote this film too!
My first supervisor when I went to work at Ryan Aeronautical in San Diego in 1984 worked on the conversion of these helicopters for their movie role. He said most of the stuff added to them was simply cosmetic to create the illusion of an attack helicopter. Ironically, the project we were working on at Ryan was the fuselage for the AH-64 Apache.
The French Helicopter is one the best aerobatic made. You can lookup an old UA-cam video of a stunt pilot doing shit in one. That would make most pilots never fly in one again..
genial amigo que buen reporte de ese bello helicóptero, BLUE THUNDER PARA MI ES UNA INPIRACION DE MUCHOS PROYECTOS . GRACIAS POR DAR RECORDATORIO DE ESTE GRAN GAZELLE.
After the movie, these helicopters were parked for several years by the LA Sheriff's aero bureau at Long Beach Airport.. I used to see them almost daily. They just sat there gathering dust. for about 2-3 years. They were unlocked as they were in a secure area. I inspected them thoroughly inside and out. They were pretty cheesy. One day they were there. The next day they were gone.
😮😮😮😮😮😮 se estreno en españa a finales de 1983 y me encanto el helicóptero es un gazelle modificado y cuando la sacaron en video vhs la compré y más tarde en dvd y bluray
I never understood how you could be the owner of one of these and then just let them rot away! So many people (Me) would of loved to see one of the Movie Helicopters up close and in person....charge $5 a head and you could of made millions.
Apache ? Hughes 1975 to 1984 McDonnal Douglas 1984 to 1997 Boeing 1997 to today.. Low Observable windshields were the Army rave in the 80s AH 1 Cobra & OH 58 Kiowa - Fugly! really wasn't worth the bother and extra weight
The low quality tv-series with dumb face actors and boring episode, condemned this superbe copter to die. Unfortunately the original movie dont put missile launcer under the wings. When i watch AirWolf i think its nice copter look like a flyng dolphin with a ridiculous gun machines, i think is the "female copter" version, if compared with Blue Thunder...

I heard one was save by a collector
And one of them is in pcs. Laid around on a scrap yard...

HERE'S MY FAVORITE HELI
THE GAZELLE. !
BEAUTIFUL AS BLUE THUNDER
PERFECT LOOKING MACHINE ❤
Agreed! One of the most beautiful Helis in the world. I also love the MH-6 "Little Bird."
I grew up in L.A., and I'll always remember seeing one of them occasionally flying around, while they were working on the tv series.
A huge fan of that movie. I still watch it 2-3 times a year. (In whisper mode..;0.)
Outstanding JAFO!
One of my fave movies as a teenager in the 80s.

Now THAT is interesting.... considering how Blue Thunder had some of the tech that the Apache also has!
This was my favorite helicopter before Air airwolf
My favorite movie of all time!
Yeah..same here ..love the 80'S
Of all time? Seriously
I Had No Idea They Could Make Helicopters Like That. Enjoyed BLUE THUNDER The First Time I Saw It. Awesome Machine😊.
I remember seeing the 2 helicopters in Lincoln Nebraska sky's during the America movie filming.

100% best movie ever and how true and now made
today

Seems that Roy Scniedeer s line about how it flew was correct- "this thing s nose heavier as the Iotallah" lol
One day the helicopter would be in military for a real mission over seas
They did not preserve the integrity of this chopper to do a museum for a memorabilia for fans who loved this movie
This was favorite movie before airwolf comes out one year
What about the one from Blue Thunder the tv series ?

It's amazing what the prop people can get away with on film. Get up close and they look hand made.

Their demise was a shame

When I was a teenager in 84

Lazy robot voice.
