@@randym7961 ...The ironic thing about your statement, is the original Have Blue RCS test models (Hopeless Diamond) were made of wood about a year before the novel even came out. They of course did not fly, but were full scale models mounted on a pole and used to test the concepts of low RCS design.
I remember seeing this movie when it first came out. The faceted look of the aircraft was very odd considering that the F-117 was not known to the public at the time. There was rumored to be the existance of a secret stealth fighter called the F-19 but it had smooth curved lines like a normal aircraft. I could imagine that when the movie came out with what was then a very odd looking angular design it may have had some people at Skunkworks looking at each other wondering who the leaker was!
I saw that movie back in 1983 when I was 12, I was in my last weeks in elementary school. Great movie. Then I found the novel firefox in a bookstore. Wow...
Still looks like a gen 6 plane 40+ years later. Also has the angles of first generation stealth fighters like the f-111. Brilliant job designing the plane.
@@tonykennedy8483 Yes, IIRC they were supposed to use the same engines. But in real life, the engines turned out not to be as reliable as you'd think. The real engines would have had to been swapped out during the sub scene.
😮😮😮😮😮😮 me acuerdo cuando se estreno en las navidades de 1982 en españa la vi tres veces la película y cuando la sacaron a la venta en video la compré y años más tarde en dvd y en bluray
They also shot some footage at Edwards AFB. My Dad was Aircraft maintenance and he came home one evening fairly excited saying he'd been in the background of a scene towing an aircraft across with "Clint" directing. He was really into it, telling us all about how great "Clint" was with everybody. When the movie came out, that scene apparently hit the cutting-room floor, and from then on it was strictly "Mr. Eastwood" (jokingly)! 😂
Never recall watch this movie but its 40+ years old and you know the aerodynamics is what use on modern gen4.5-5 aircraft. Before any ATF program or JSF program. It fits right in to probably a gen 5 aircraft today.
Imagine the Russians seeing this on the ground with their satellites thinking it was a new American aircraft before they painted the Russian star on the wings lol
For all the fans of the movie Firefox, Craig Thomas wrote a sequel to his named Firefox Down (the title is a spoiler...LOL) and I read it. It's a decent read.
The FireFox was the best storytelling but something like that and i wishes to watching another the storytelling in the movie by FireFox 2 ? So, who knows. 👍
Clint directed, produced and starred in the movie. It was panned by the critics for being too long (137 minutes), which was fair comment. Clint hadn’t yet learned to be ruthless at cutting unnecessary scenes.
Yes. Plus, the MiG 1.44 project dates back to 1982, as it was the Soviet response to the U.S. ATF (Advanced Tactical Fighter) program which resulted in the YF-22 and YF-23. (The ATF program dates back to 1981.)
The truth is, the Soviets were no where near as advanced as the US. When Viktor Belenko defected from the USSR in his MIG 25 & turned it over to us in 1976 we discovered just how far behind the USSR really was. The plane was basically held together with duct tape & chewing gum. It was shocking to see how badly the plane was built, & this was one of their BEST models. The jets the USSR had were all hype, & we ultimately made them fall because they couldn't keep up with our stealth technology. That basically bankrupted the USSR.
42 years and it's still looks badass. Everything in that aircraft are now incorporated in the F-22 and F-35.
You realize it was made of plywood

Brilliant job designing the plane.
Actually, I think it was based on the XB-70, with the forward canards, twin tail, and drooped wingtips. The TSR2 would also fit.
@@martykarr7058 With a fair bit of the Mig25 at the rear

You mean the F-117 - the F-111 was a two-seat swing-wing fighter-bomber, named the Aardvark, developed in the '60s and not intended to be stealthy.
That plane looks more relative now! Great content!
It's a great film and the aircraft is one of the best looking ever made - real or not.
Great movie 🍿

Eastwood hates special effects movies and this movie was the reason.
I read the book, saw the movie and read the sequel book called Winterhawk.

This movie had a arcade game when came out I played was alright never saw a model today would have a tone of tie in merchandise 😜😊
I read the book when it came out in 77/78. I enjoyed the film too but the book had more story.
Is this a TTS narration? "A retired US... Airforce pilot".
IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE
I can remember seeing this movie when it came out. I might have read the book. I was hoping you'd show the backwards missile...

Great book , so so movie.I dont think Clint was the man for this role though I couldnt tell you who I WOULD HAVE CAST IN HIS PLACE EITHER.
Twenty years ago,I would've cast Viggo Mortensen.

I still love that bad Ass Plane
Fire fox plane is in Milton Keynes sci fi museum
Plane is badass and I still marvel at it with peak nostalgia. The film (that I rewatched last night) is a complete dog.
F-14 had Tom Cruise but MiG-31 had Clint Eastwood.
The Firefox dose look like the Mig 1.44, which is a real life experimental stealth fighter made by mig

The movie wasn't all that good. If you read the book, you didn't like it much.
The engine placement on that fire fox didn't make any since with all that power thrust.
The mig 31 fire fox looked much better then the real mig 31 fox hound
Eastwood’s Russian accent was horrible.
