Thank you so much for this video. I went out to my 2007 6.0 (-5 degrees today) and I could hear the injectors pre cycle, no codes, FICM 48V but no crank or clicking. Reseated the starter relay and the 15A fuse and it started right up! You just saved me from having to sit in snow and swap a starter I didn't need.
@@kira55400 dude I have the same. FICM is going out (long crank before cold start). I noticed the crank or click doesn't work when it's hot and I had just had the truck on and running (sometimes).

Dude awesome video the starter fuse in my book is listed as 4 x 4 I don't have 4 wheel so there was no reason to even fool with that fuse and would have been the last last thing I even thought about checking. I fiddled with this for a long day.. your vid and 15 seconds later I was rolling. Kudos dude
Nice video. The neutral lockout can be accessed and tested with the same techniques. Short around (use a jumper wire to connect their inputs and outputs like you showed to do with the relay where it plugs in) all switches and relays to check them one at a time. A test light (or, "THE DREADED" @$#!@%!METER!!!! AAAAAHHH!!) will tell you if you are getting power in at every device, and every device that has good power has good wiring and devices between it and the power source.
This video was super helpful. Thank you for posting it. It helped me determine that I had a sticking relay. Thanks brother - wishing you a belated Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!!
Excellent video and excellent advice however I may add that you should check your terminals at the starter itself. There are only two one coming from the battery and one coming from the relay. Also under the hood of the truck there is an interconnect where the wire leading from the starter relay connects to the yellow wire leading down to the starter. The interconnect is on the passenger side and resembles the look of a black plastic round cylinder. In a no start condition pull that apart and check the connections inside.
also, you can pull that apart and connect a piece of wire from it to the battery and if the starter is bad it will not turn over, if the starter is good, it will turn over. So in an emergency situation, you can turn the key on, and start the vehicle from that wire.
@@dennisz494 what does it mean if I connect that starter wire and it turns right on? but only 50% of the time when I turn the ignition on the truck starts up
Gonna go take a look at this later i assumed my started went put and did a 6.4 upgrade and i still have to jump it off the solenoid plug in the engine bay thank you for the advice
Thank you for the video! I've been wanting to install an intermittent push button type kill switch where holding the button down would make a closed connection to the control to the starter relay. That 15A fuse to the ignition switch may be the answer. If the truck starts and is running and then you pull that 15A fuse, would the engine stall or will it have no affect? If it only needs the closed circuit when you're about to start it, then that intermittent switch should work. Thanks in advance for your help.
Excellent video.. 👍. I hav power from the top wire, when I bridge it, truck start, The yellow left side “ground” it gave me ground. But the yellow spot at the right there is no power., What next? Ty
Great informational video buddy. This is exactly the information I have been looking for. When my engine is cold and I turn the key sometimes I get NOTHING. Dead silence. Then after turning key on key off, key on several times it will eventually crank and start. After the engine warms up is will crank and start every attempt. I have brand new motor craft 850 amp batteries. Is there anything you can think of besides the things you mention in the video which may help me diagnose since this seems to only happen when engine is cold? Thank you.
Currently running with an issue with the relay clicking and closing the circuit. Batteries checked out fine, jumped the starter with the jumper cable. I'm only reading 8 volts on my jumper cable. I jumped the truck from the starter relay and read 12+ volts. Which then I came to a conclusion that somewhere in a fuse box something is not right. In other words I have a problem upstream. So what I ended up doing is bypassing the relay to the fuse box and just installed a relay socket with a mini relay 30 amp. I did purchase a "used fuse box" that is currently on the way, but I will be sending it back as the " Relay Mod" solved my problem. I have posted a short video of my symptoms, along with the form with the help of Hydro, master1973, Bismic, 79Jasper and others input.
