Normally I would be a total curmudgeon about a sequel like this, especially since Blade Runner is my favorite movie. astralseeker I had a professor in university that was in love with the film. And would go on and on about a lot of what you just discussed. It was actually cool to hear. I agree it is an incredible piece of film making.
He was actually competent too. I never got why Deckard was considered so high-tier as a Blade Runner considering he spends the entire movie getting beat up by everyone he’s after. Joe was at least someone you really wouldn’t want to cross paths with, but was also warm and kind to the people and holograms around him.
Yeah he got dropped :( I feel like the source material is so amazing that it will still be great, but it's a shame because Johannsson and Villeuneve are such an amazing team
What I find beautiful about Blade Runner and even more about its sequel is that every character which has a line of dialogue could be a protagonist of their own story. They just feel so live, real and attached to their world.
It sure is a masterpiece, as mentioned by so many critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet as I am writing this comment the Oscar nominations just came out and it got left out almost entirely, except for a few technical categories. The Academy somehow found movies like Get Out, Call me by Your Name or The Shape of Water to be much better...
Not as great as the first in all senses, since the first second the music, nothing like vangelis, to the end the epic words from Roy, in the middle love scene and theme, the death os priss, etc etc. In 2049 luv seems like a terminator carácter and wallace a depress serial killer far from the elegante of Tirrell.
Actually can any one (or several ones), explain to me the meaning of his reaction... I am not sure I get it ... :) Does it mean he does not care about her question ? Does it mean the question is too serious for him at that moment ? Does it mean he has no opinion on this § laugh about not finding answer ? or does it mean: "are you kidding ?: we are all doomed " ? :-)
Since the movie is about the future of mankind, it's a tricky question trying to get more information about how the film goes based on the impression it made on him during the making of the film.
It's good to see the trash mesa set ( 3:38 ) from years ago! :) I was there as a local (Hungarian) extra, with about 15-20 others. I was a bit backwards and rightwards from where the lady is standing. At 5:05 there are some featured extras, like the bearded man on the left at 5:03. We had the scene shot for a few days, the shooting itself was often done in a calmer pace. I'm glad I had the chance to be there.
Its a unique movie. Its been a week since i saw it and i miss seeing those breathtaking scenes and the unique music. Its an experience like no other. Im actually investing ALOT in a upgraded Dolby Atmos at my house just so i can truly enjoy watching this again and again.
Need to see this again in a good cinema. The sound. The visuals, most importantly the gravitas and emotion. I loved K’s journey and how they portrayed it. Such a bittersweet character.
I work on movie sets...and again..no mention of the talented ,hard working crew that work their arses off to make features like this possible . I always want to hear what the Production Assistants think . Or the third A.D.'s ...who have hundreds of extras to herd through makeup and wardrobe. Or Wardrobe Assistants who tend to thousands of garments meant for lead , feature or extra. These people are the 'grease' that keeps all wheels running smoothly . They enable our Production Designers , Gaffers , Grips , Directors and producers to do their magic. A good P.A. bats too many curve balls a day to try and receive recognition or praise for each and everyone one he or she bats true. It's a thankless job. Anyone wants a 'unauthorized' view of what really goes on ,on a shoot... ask the P.A. Here's to you guy's..the true hero's of production. ;-)
This was great. I want about 3 more hours of this. BR is my favorite film, and I thought it impossible that another film, especially a sequel, could sit next to that title...2049 does. It's almost better in some ways...yes, I said it. I'm overjoyed that this sequel was better than I could have ever imagined.
My feelings exactly. Went to see 2049, expecting to be entertained but not overwhelmed. Was I wrong! To elevate a sequel to the same level as the original this way... words can't express how grateful I am that they pulled it off.
This movie is a masterpiece. Let down slightly by just one thing - Jered Leto's performance. Everything and everyone else is utterly on par with the original masterpiece which to this day remains as my favorite movie of all time.
she had charisma and a good outfit but knowledgeable? how did you arrive at that assumption? everything she said sounded nothing more to me than the usual "tabloidy" talk.
Kim Taylor Bennett became my favorite entertainment reporter/interviewer with this video. She has a natural, authentic feel, and she's very easy to look at. I loved it when she snapped, "Goddammit, Harrison, why not?" Totally charming.
That Rachel special effect was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Seems like they did a similar thing to the Y-Wing pilots in "Rogue One." Very impressive.
Can't stop thinking about this movie. Came out of the cinema yesterday but I am still dreaming. It is just so perfect. What an amazing team of artists and talented people. Denis Villeneuve made it happen!
This film was such a beautifully respectful sequel, both paying homage to the original whilst forging it's own identity at the same time. Congrats to all involved who made this happen.
I really love a great film like this. They don't mention it here but the memories scene went straight to my heart and made me cry for real, and I always think about it when I think of this film. Thanks for sharing Vice.
Love ScFi, Love Philip K Dick, Love Blade Runner! So naturally I LOVED this movie! Don't let the crap about the low box office numbers put you off. The first Blade Runner suffered the same problems oddly enough. Yet it's considered one of the best Scfi films of all time.
What made this movie great was they made it as good as the first one. He didn't try too hard. They didn't "wokeify" the script. They just made a story that made sense. They didn't interject any of "today" into the movie. That is key. Hollywood tries to interject too much of "the present" into movies today instead of letting people get lost in the movie and forget everything about reality.
That was a great watch. Kim Taylor Bennet was unknown to me before now but I hope see her do more great videos as her interview and presenting style is so refreshing compared to many of her peers.
U know the anchor of this piece is truly loved and appreciated when most of the comments( in a Ridley Scott /Denis movie with actors like H.Ford,Ryan,Ana )are about her presence and her gracefulness.Wow...that's a first .
Always wanted to make music for Blade Runner! So guess how honored I am that my music was chosen as the intro to this making of Blade Runner 2049... I guess dreams come true ;) If u like it, check the full version of the song at: vimeo.com/iamlefou/sun
Gotta plug somehow...I know the feeling. It's a great world of sound out there. You might like what I did with my short film. Dedicated to the masters. Not for phones. ua-cam.com/video/PH7vdg8m9MY/v-deo.html
I had to use Command-F to look for the word "music" in hope that I could find whoever made the music for this video. That's how much I wanted to know. Really great work, sir.
As soon as I started the video and heard that, I knew it'd be good. Thanks for that! If you have a download of the song somewhere or a purchase link it'd be much appreciated.
2 more sleeps until I see it, on an IMAX screen, chose in 2D rather than 3D, hope I made the right choice. The first film is my all time favourite movie. I wasn't supposed to see the first film in a cinema, it was an AA classification in the UK and I was only 13 (think you had to be 15 to see an AA). My dad thought I should be allowed to see it, so we saw it together, in a nearly empty cinema, people forget that it was a flop and has only risen to its iconic status in the intervening years. Then it was the first film we rented on home video when we got a VCR the year after and the first film I bought on DVD. It's the first film I watch whenever I've bought a new TV or video playing device as well. I'll be a little sad on Thursday as my dad didn't live long enough to see 2049. I've been skirting around the reviews and articles and trying to avoid spoilers. I don't think I'm going to be dissapointed and I'm almost giddy in anticipation.
Mmh, no Roger Deakins? It’s a cathedral of a movie because of him. His enriching collaboration with the great Villeneuve is a gift that keeps on giving. But DP tend to be overlooked for their stellar achievement in filmmaking, it’s really, really sad.
On some of Adam's more recent posts, I've dropped the hint that he should make the black leather coat that Roy Batty wears. Adam puts so much energy into the other costumes...a Batty leather coat could be worn a lot of the time in San Francisco. He's already got the light hair style...We only have warm nights about 3 weeks out of the year...and plenty of foggy days to creep around in. Seems so obvious to me....
they're damn near identical. Savage only got a couple hrs with the original but has also made every prop version from the original and all variants of it. unanswerable question.
Not being a dick but have you seen the movie or are you just going by trailers and promo material? Modern trailers are 100% about selling the movie and often miss the mark on what tone and feel the filmmakers are going for. This could very well be a slow, methodical movie, with contextual action scenes here in there, like the first. Also keep in mind that Denis Villeneuve is a super atmospheric director and likes to take his time setting up scenes and is great at building tension. No way it will surpass the first but I wouldn't want any other modern director to make a sequel to Blade Runner
IT'S CRAZY THIS MOVIE IS BLOWING UP IN POPULARITY ALL OF A SUDDEN!!!!! I had actually not seen the first movie and I'm only 31 years old so it came out before I was born but I don't mind deep movies........ I THINK A MAJOR REASON WHY THIS MOVIE IS BLOWING UP RIGHT NOW 6 YEARS LATER Is......... Because so many people are making edits and shorts of this movie All over UA-cam and Instagram and a lot of guys I think can relate to the loneliness of what it feels like to be okay and the fact that AI is now becoming popular and a lot of people are into the AI companions like the app replica and it reminds him of the girl Joi from the movie and what the future could hold especially for a lot of men that are lonely in this day and age...... I've never been one into that hole AI girlfriend thing I mean I've been able to have plenty of girls throughout my experience but I don't know I just think that and a few other reasons people are finally just now realizing that it was a good movie and the visuals were really good it is a little bit slow as far as the pace but it does really pick up and become a good movie if you actually take the time to understand it and watch it and you appreciate the first one I think too
Kind of glad I didn't watch this until after I saw the movie. Idk why companies allow this kind of indepth spoilers in a way before the movie came out.
this movie is so creative, with a lots of designing character, i really wish i found my self in this team one day. creativity is the best. great producer, editor , designers and actors. bravo
Dr. Eldon Tyrell made Bladerunner. Its not Bladerunner without a scene of Tyrell in his robes chilling in bed and trading future stocks. How glorious that character was...
I actually appreciated that 2049 did not over rely on intertextuality and throwbacks to the previous movie. It is the answer to my problems with another recent installment of a hallowed Sci Fi franchise: Star Wars.
It is natural for people to get a little tired after watching a very long movie. I was mesmerized by this one. I didn't want it to end. Dune is probably going to be another epic. I can't wait to see what Denis did with it.
I've not seen the sequal yet, the original was sooo good! Wonderful atmosphere, legendary cast. I was hooked into the story from the start. Coupled with the moody track from Vangelis. A true gem of a movie. 'The future looks... frightening....' Atfter watching this 'Making of... ' I'm much more inclined to see the full film.
It is so awesome you got to be on the set and talk to the director. I would give anything for an opportunity like that! But thanks to your wonderful video, I feel as if I am there.
One of the things Scott did to hint that Deckard was a replicant was putting that subtle glow in his eyes that you quickly saw in one of the scenes in Blade Runner. All the replicants had it and so did Deckard.
I'm going to watch this film and judge it on its own merit. It'll be hard to keep the original out of my head, but I really want to give this squeal a chance.
I went in with the same mindset as you. I think you will be very pleased. Incredible film that is great within itself as well as being very worthy of the Blade Runner name.
I worked for these two 'Blade Runner 2049' producers back in 2000. Broderick was the cool laid-back dude who still seems to have his head screwed on, but Andrew Kosove was the biggest asshole I've ever met - EVER! One day on set, he turned around without looking where he was going and nearly walked into me. Instead of saying sorry, he said "Never cross my path again!"....and that crazy voice of his?! The stuff of nightmares!! I used to do impressions of him to the crew behind his back - Sucker!
Love the inside poop. Arrogance. Worse than pollution. Power exposes all. Equal footing, they never have a chance. Just make sure your payback isn't on video.

Sebastian Tinajero Omfg haha it's that one where he makes noises and grunts all the time yeah?😂
This was just the perfect sequel, immediately became one of my favourite films, and Villeneuve my favourite director, the man just really gets it

leakykullon5.0 This movie looks beautiful from the trailers already. Even if it's crap, it's still visually fantastic.
There's a reason Deakins keeps working with Villeneuve, too.
Good point. Look at Deakins' filmography. He doesn't make bad movies. It's why he's worked with the Coen Bro's on most of their films.
Skyfall received love/hate criticism from fans and non fan, but yeah his cinematography style will not disappoint anyone.

What I find beautiful about Blade Runner and even more about its sequel is that every character which has a line of dialogue could be a protagonist of their own story. They just feel so live, real and attached to their world.
Blade Runner 2049 is the best film ever made!!
the Flipside yesssss
It sure is a masterpiece, as mentioned by so many critics on
Rotten Tomatoes. Yet as I am writing this comment the Oscar nominations just
came out and it got left out almost entirely, except for a few technical
categories. The Academy somehow found movies like Get Out, Call me by Your Name
or The Shape of Water to be much better...
Its a master piece!!
alex johston: has more holes than swiss chess. see rob ager 2049 plot fail & 2 dudes who ripped apart 2049 pos in byrce hukkabay comment.
I find Ryan Gosling hypnotic.
Scorpio
his face and screen presence are great
Have you ever checked out his old music?
I was thinking the same thing about Ana de Armas.
Wish he was a drink.
This movie is a classic, one of the great films of the last 20 year
Such a gorgeous film. Everyone who worked on that film are legends
10:59 - Best moment
Nurpus I agree
Yep... Nice try vice! That was a very tricky question. hahaha
Actually can any one (or several ones), explain to me the meaning of his reaction...
I am not sure I get it ... :)
Does it mean he does not care about her question ?
Does it mean the question is too serious for him at that moment ?
Does it mean he has no opinion on this § laugh about not finding answer ?
or does it mean: "are you kidding ?: we are all doomed " ?
:-)
Since the movie is about the future of mankind, it's a tricky question trying to get more information about how the film goes based on the impression it made on him during the making of the film.
Honestly it's the most reasonable response to a question like that.
Im actually investing ALOT in a upgraded Dolby Atmos at my house just so i can truly enjoy watching this again and again.
just got watched the film , i would say a piece of art in cinema history a complex story and a small twist
Need to see this again in a good cinema. The sound. The visuals, most importantly the gravitas and emotion. I loved K’s journey and how they portrayed it. Such a bittersweet character.
every single design piece is so iconic, amazed with such an insanely well crafted world.
@ 0:14 some people might see an old man kneeling.
I see a god, whose eyes are the cosmic gift that this universe gave this earth.
WRONG.
Here's to you guy's..the true hero's of production. ;-)
That shows up in the extras...like the Lord of The RIngs extras.
Why would a hipster in a fur coat acknowledge the "little people"?
Really?
Faxx
Absolutely stunning film. Captured everything that was great about the original and then some.
2:00 It's nice how both of them are wearing berets
"OMG It's so insane to be here on a real life garbage pile"
I'm still re-watching this movie regularly and everytime I see it, I just wish I got more of it...
9:16 gosling hits puberty
Came to the comments for this lmfao
Jim Bo a real human bean
its ciggy throat
bet he puffs on em alot
sad.
I think he will always have that voice crack till his old days. I notice it at some of his interviews and Watch the nice guys, he embrace it ;D
Kitsch Puffer Fish he was shooting the movie... try staying 18h talking lines lol.
I am so grateful that this movie got made. LOVED it!
IT'S TOO BAD SHE WON'T LIVE
BUT THEN AGAIN... WHO DOES?
unicorn unicorn unicorn unicorn
They are just DUST IN THE WIND DUDE
I'm thinking Sean will be in this, and have a very special moment.
-BUT THEN AGAIN, WHO DOES?
Denise is such a cool dude
Denis* He's a French Canadian.

I loved 2049 so much. It's one of my favorite movies
The original and the sequel are both amazing masterpieces.
I love how Ryan Gosling just straight up said "No" when asked if he wanted to share how to prepped for this role haha. I love actors.
I KNOW WTF
great interviews! the reporter has a really calming energy, i like that a lot!
This movie is a masterpiece. Let down slightly by just one thing - Jered Leto's performance. Everything and everyone else is utterly on par with the original masterpiece which to this day remains as my favorite movie of all time.
She has such great charisma, and is knowledgeable, plus has such appropriate outfits. 👍
th3n04h costume designer will get awarded for sure.
she had charisma and a good outfit but knowledgeable? how did you arrive at that assumption? everything she said sounded nothing more to me than the usual "tabloidy" talk.
Kim Taylor Bennett became my favorite entertainment reporter/interviewer with this video. She has a natural, authentic feel, and she's very easy to look at. I loved it when she snapped, "Goddammit, Harrison, why not?" Totally charming.
"How was it working with him [Ford]?" .... Jeez, I can't imagine how getting this question for the 100th time made his eyes roll internally.
That Rachel special effect was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. Seems like they did a similar thing to the Y-Wing pilots in "Rogue One." Very impressive.
I wish this was 2 + hours long
great video. saw more of the 'inside' than I expected. great interviews too!
Yo the cinematography, framing and composition in the in the interviews 👌my hats off 👏
Can't stop thinking about this movie. Came out of the cinema yesterday but I am still dreaming. It is just so perfect. What an amazing team of artists and talented people. Denis Villeneuve made it happen!
This film was such a beautifully respectful sequel, both paying homage to the original whilst forging it's own identity at the same time. Congrats to all involved who made this happen.
listen to 5:54 to 6:03 with your eyes closed.....dirty
lol
THE BLASTER
HAHAHAH thank you for that xD
lmao
HAHAHA!! .. that made me laugh my ass off! :))
I really love a great film like this. They don't mention it here but the memories scene went straight to my heart and made me cry for real, and I always think about it when I think of this film. Thanks for sharing Vice.
This chick is so adorable i can't even right now omg
Love ScFi, Love Philip K Dick, Love Blade Runner! So naturally I LOVED this movie! Don't let the crap about the low box office numbers put you off. The first Blade Runner suffered the same problems oddly enough. Yet it's considered one of the best Scfi films of all time.
Brilliant. Well done Vice.
LITERALLY A CRAZY CRAZY MASTERPIECE!!!
Literally a crazy master piece!
some people really watched this film and were like "yeah! i wanna live in a place like that" and that someone is me
Seems like a really bad idea for me
Crawl out thru the fallout, baby . . .
That was a great watch. Kim Taylor Bennet was unknown to me before now but I hope see her do more great videos as her interview and presenting style is so refreshing compared to many of her peers.
ABSOLUTELY love this film
U know the anchor of this piece is truly loved and appreciated when most of the comments( in a Ridley Scott /Denis movie with actors like H.Ford,Ryan,Ana )are about her presence and her gracefulness.Wow...that's a first .
The best film of the 2010-2019 Decade.
9:30 what a compliement from the man himself
"The future is a pretty awful place" If we keep treating nature so carelessly as we had until now dear, certainly it will...
The irony is that people like her are accelerating us into that awful future she dislikes so much.
Today we are just doing close ups. That's 12 hours of just doing close ups. LOVE IT.
If this can at least get me to say "Wow that was good! I can't wait to go back to the cinema and watch it again" that's all I need.
Same. I hope that I will want to watch it at least twice.
MrHEC381991 well looks like that what the reveiws are saying
You will
MrHEC381991 o
Saw it in IMAX last night. Can’t wait to go back
The movie is literally me
Nobody appreciated when it came out. Now it's on everyone's top-10 list
Awesome music
Best visual effects i've seen. Was completely convincing.
Ryan Gosling and Ana de Armas is perfect couple in this amazing movie.
I miss the old Vice. RIP
Hands down the best Sci-Fi sequel ever.
2017 Best movie and probably best from the last 20 years
Who made a better replica blaster, the film makers or Adam Savage?
HuwGaas tenshu53.exblog.jp/237784788/

On some of Adam's more recent posts, I've dropped the hint that he should make the black leather coat that Roy Batty wears. Adam puts so much energy into the other costumes...a Batty leather coat could be worn a lot of the time in San Francisco. He's already got the light hair style...We only have warm nights about 3 weeks out of the year...and plenty of foggy days to creep around in. Seems so obvious to me....
HuwGaas Adam savage. No doubt.
they're damn near identical. Savage only got a couple hrs with the original but has also made every prop version from the original and all variants of it. unanswerable question.
The interviewer and the kind of questions she came up with are fantastic
"Well goddamnit Harrison, why not?"
This movie should’ve gotten a bigger box office revenue, it’s so amazing
The original was a dream like movement. Cant really beat that. It will be good but obviously faster paced and more action.
I'l bet you 100 bucks im right, no movies since 1980s take their time for a good story.
How wrong you were
Better cough up that hundred bucks buddy...
incredible film, takes the themes of the first film and builds upon them very well
IT'S CRAZY THIS MOVIE IS BLOWING UP IN POPULARITY ALL OF A SUDDEN!!!!!
I've never been one into that hole AI girlfriend thing I mean I've been able to have plenty of girls throughout my experience but I don't know I just think that and a few other reasons people are finally just now realizing that it was a good movie and the visuals were really good it is a little bit slow as far as the pace but it does really pick up and become a good movie if you actually take the time to understand it and watch it and you appreciate the first one I think too
10:58 The most important question and the most realistic answer.
Kind of glad I didn't watch this until after I saw the movie. Idk why companies allow this kind of indepth spoilers in a way before the movie came out.
this movie is so creative, with a lots of designing character, i really wish i found my self in this team one day. creativity is the best. great producer, editor , designers and actors. bravo
Wow, Kim is so charming!
10:45 This is what makes movies like this so timeless
Dr. Eldon Tyrell made Bladerunner. Its not Bladerunner without a scene of Tyrell in his robes chilling in bed and trading future stocks. How glorious that character was...
I love Joe Turkel. He did the same thing in The Shining as Lloyd the bartender.
Haha, yea he did.
2049 isn’t exactly sufferings from forgettable villains. Luv is terrifying.
I can't wait to see what Denis did with it.
amazing film saw it yesterday.
I've not seen the sequal yet, the original was sooo good! Wonderful atmosphere, legendary cast. I was hooked into the story from the start. Coupled with the moody track from Vangelis. A true gem of a movie. 'The future looks... frightening....'
Atfter watching this 'Making of... ' I'm much more inclined to see the full film.
Best movie ever created after decades. Shame that it didnt do very well in Box office. Shame on you new generations with poor taste!
Remember that the original movie was also a box office failure. At that was out in ‘82.
It is so awesome you got to be on the set and talk to the director. I would give anything for an opportunity like that! But thanks to your wonderful video, I feel as if I am there.
2024 here?
Kim did such a great job with her interviews!
This is basically Blade Runner without the poetry of the directors cut. I'm just glad this isn't a blockbuster remake
Thanks for letting us know, Saheeb.
Paddy Magenis 98% rotten tomatoes
I went in with the same mindset as you. I think you will be very pleased. Incredible film that is great within itself as well as being very worthy of the Blade Runner name.
its beyond worth it.
5:56 awww look at that face, soo cute. Gosh, what a charismatic girl. I loved her.
Derek Boyes damn, that dampened my spirits...
Love the inside poop. Arrogance. Worse than pollution. Power exposes all. Equal footing, they never have a chance. Just make sure your payback isn't on video.
Loved the journalist, she was a fangirl with everything related to the movie. Also she has a nice voice.
