- For the first time in history, during the Royal Funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh, the world saw a coffin lowered into the Royal Vault at Windsor Castle. As the widowed Queen and her family including Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex looked on, Prince Philip's coffin was slowly laid to rest below the floor of St Geroge's Chapel.

Seeing as it was sadly during Covid-19, it must have been hard not to sit near one another, but, they did a Nation proud by wearing masks and distancing, incredibly difficult during such a sad time. Kudos to all of them.
The Piper was beautiful. It was so fitting that he played while the coffin was being lowered into the vault.

I am sure he was playing 'The Floo'ers O' The Forest ( have a' gaed awa'). The flowers of the forest (being the men who died in battle) have all gone away.

Philip's body will lay there until they decided where the Queen will be buried within Windsor and he'll then be buried in the same grave/vault she is.
My heart was touched by the sight of the Queen, sitting alone as her companion of 73 years is laid to rest.
I was so touched, I cried. I just wanted to hold the oh so poignantly lonely Queen in my arms... I just kept touching the screen towards Her. It is hard to think of Her as a widow now; a new title that makes Her more human than ever. God save our gracious Queen!
I can only imagine how much the queen cried in private and it breaks my heart her husband was her soulmate I hope her health can survive this loss RIP
I’ve had many meltdowns over my summer holiday and I’ll probably have one on the day that marks the 4 month anniversary of prince Philip’s funeral which is tomorrow

Its all good now. She has no more sorrow. She's reunited with her beloved Philip. In a week or so, they will move him from that shelf he's sitting on in the basement of the chapel and inter him properly next to her in the King George VI memorial chapel where they will be until the resurrection.

@Jonny Rocket - of course he's "pitch perfect"... he's been playing for years & years AND they all had to practice before Prince Philip's funeral. I enjoyed that part of the funeral... it was very moving & ALL of those men played their instruments very well.😍
I can't tolerate most pipers... out of tune and sound like two cats fighting.
But I could listen to him play all day. He is exceptionally good.
The piper was very good. I enjoy the pipes .
The solemn and triumphant sound of rendition of the death March superbly applied by the piper offers a great relief to the mourning nation of Britain,HRM,but the piper again displayed a rare gem of dishing out the royal,pitch and symphony that will resonate in British ears.
The lone bagpiper was the single most beautiful moment to me. So soulful and sorrowful and so alone. Fitting way to send Prince Philip off to the heavens.
I lost it when the generous soloist started "God save our Queen" very slowly, very dignified, even more dignified than usual right after the coffin had descended into the vault. Now the Queen was REALLY alone, yet expected to carry on with only Her grief and Her memories; may they be soothing to her heart.
The tune is so melodious that bring the tear from my eyes also 💖💐

Thank God.... ! the Queen had all those months of quarantining with Philip in their remaining "Golden Year", together. God works in mysterious ways, doesn't He?! 💖🌟🙏🏼

4:39 the most emotional “God Save the Queen”. We saw her alone and in mourning for having lost a companion of 70+ years. More than just a line, it comes off as a collective plea for some brits...may god save their beloved queen from sheer loneliness and grief.

I completely lost it on Wednesday 8th July as I marked 3 months since Prince Philip died, I was literally in my bedroom crying like mad. Mummy came to check on me at 11:35 and saw me crying and shaking for him. This happened last week too
Every single part of this funeral was put together with dignity, honor and complete respect. It was impressive yet deeply touching. It reflected in true form who the Duke of Edinburgh was.

A beautiful send off for a great man. A man who loved his country his navy ship's but most of all he loved his (Queen Elizabeth ) she was his first he promised he would be by her side til his last breath and by God he kept his word. Prince Philip was my favorite royal he spoke his truth told you like it was and moved on with it he was filled with great wit may you rest easy until you are with your Elizabeth again.
She was not his first or even his only, once married. He had at least 6 affairs...interestingly enough, a couple of actresses amongst them..remember he told Harry "You step out with actresses, you don't marry them.

Most of those are expected and part of life. I'm sure she was thankful each time that it wasn't one of her children.
Here after the Queen's funeral. I really loved how the shot of the piper was exactly the same. I also love how the Princess of Wales wore the same necklace at both services. Little ways to tie both funerals together for a couple together for so long.
And now this grand woman, Queen Elizabeth is laid to rest with her beloved husband., RIP.
I watched the funeral, and felt sorry for the Queen, and the fact that on a such an emotional day, she sat alone.

When I saw this part live on BBC, I did not see the very slow lowering of the coffin. When the benediction was given, I was mystified as to where the coffin had gone. This answers it.

My grief over Prince Philip made me do a brave thing yesterday where I risked my life to save my dogs from the road and mum is glad I got them
But it got worse the minute I’ve saved them

When I first watched this on another post I didn't realize that Prince Philip was lowered to the vault right there until I read it somewhere else. I can feel the queens pain... My heart breaks for her. It's so different when your companion is always by your side... Then no longer is...for I feel the same. Instead of 2 you are now one 😢
Remember so many have not had the privilege of burying their loved ones. At least she can take solace in seeing him to the end. Till death do they part.

Prince Phillip will then be buried with her, so they will be together once more.

Sorry for your loss about your mum. My mum survived covid and recovered in 4 days. And she’s not even caring about my grief for our beloved Prince Philip and I use my attitude on her to show her how much I miss him

The funeral of Prince Philip was extraordinarily beautiful. He arranged everything. The Piper was remarkable, as he walked down the corridor while playing so captivatingly, leaving the building just as our lovely Prince was being lowered into the crypt. He was our Prince. Had it not been for Ataturk in 1922, our Prince would have become eventually a King of Greece. But he became the Prince not only of the British Commonwealth of Nations, but also Greece. Truly Phillip's heart held a very special place for Greece, and God heard everyone of his prayers for that nation too. What an extraordinary man! What an extraordinary life! What an extraordinary Prince Consort to his wife Queen Elizabeth! A grieving Canadian I am today. But I know he is with The King of Kings, The Lord Jesus Christ, whose words he treasured in his heart.

Watching this all over again brings tears to my eyes. I cannot imagine how the Queen got through all this. When my husband died I had my son holding me. Seeing the Queen by herself she looked so tiny and drawn. Just makes you want to reach out to her and hold her!
