My thoughts exactly. To him, this really WAS his mother's song, not his. Hearing his mother's song, now sung as "God save the KING", must have driven it home in what had to be one of the couple most painful ways possible, the magnitude of his soul crushing loss. May Her Royal Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, rest peacefully and in power. She was a true testament to just exactly what we ladies can do. This American take immense pride in being a woman, because I am a fellow woman. I will never be queen regnant of a nation, but I can still achieve great things.
The 'we' would be everyone under the colors of the British Empire. Missed, because that is the reverence due the sovereign of the same. It's not about her specifically - and at the same time it is. Much like an officer in the military. You salute the rank, you can come later to salute the person. Having earned your personal respect in experience or perhaps friendship. Elizabeth was a kind loving girl when she visited here. Turned alot of opinions around. She may have seemed distant and cold as she aged - but the world changed. Into an era that those from hers could scarcely recognise. Despite that she did her best to live up to her promise within the remit of what the corrupt UK parliament allows. In all ways she was someone to be respected. And in that way, it would be weird not to miss her - when you consider what lies beyond. The British have in truth had several decades of self loathing and defamation forced upon them. A paid narrative, one sided and disrespectful. Pushed by a corrupt and vile group of people. Worse than your image of the Royals. Yet money is power. And power they have. Everyone else just jumps to their party tune. Pandemics. Political musical chairs. It's all the same people. And when they do have full control around the world. When their amount of caring for the people reaches a point so low it's like the days of Rome, killing people wherever and however they like. Then like us you will regret the day you asked to readily for change. And instead receive brutality you thought worse in the past. There is no perfect leader. No perfect system. But some are so much worse than you realize. Queen Elizabeth never ordered soldiers to eat their own relatives. But such was the fate of my people. Asked to cut open their own sons and daughters and eat their livers. To prove their loyalty. Some were made to r*pe them with pieces of wood and other objects until they died. You have no idea what sort of hell ridden world the British marched through in those days. But our records are not that old and not that forgotten. We remember the British Governor here vomitting reading it. The reports of my own sister taken to Masanjia and tortured until she just wanted to fade away and be left to pass on. Do yourself a favour. Don't just read what they provide for you. Go well out of your way. To the black slave traders who sold their own people to whites. To the white people who were slaves. To the terrorists who beheaded British soldiers just because they wanted to bring education and fresh water. The British did many bad things. They also did many good things. And you never hear about the latter. Ask yourself why that is. And who really wrote the history book.
He seemed the most emotional a few minutes later when they removed the crown, scepter and orb from her casket to the altar. We know he was marching around endlessly for days and had been in at least three different cities, but I think that's when it kicked in that his mom was gone and his life would be forever changed.
You can't even imagine the emotions he gone through in that moment. He lost his mother and stands infront of her coffin but now he is the king, something he waited for his whole life and at the same time the whole church sings god save the king.
He held it together so well , his duty kicked in the minute the Queen was pronounced dead . This has been a very long and emotional process for him , probably more so than his siblings ,
I know it was protocol for them to attend to various public duties upon her death, but if it were up to me, they would have had a few weeks of bereavement leave like anyone else when a family member passes. They might have to participate in the funeral processions & the vigils, but that would be it. I wish the other stuff could have waited until after her funeral. I’m wondering if any of them had a chance to rest after all of this? Maybe I’m just weird, but they are human, too. They need to be able to go have a good cry when they need it.

Even in South Africa where we've had an at times complicated relationship with Britain, even here there has been a profound respect for HM. Emotional, of course, but steady. I hope I have a fraction of that control at my mother’s funeral. Godspeed, Queen Elizabeth. As one son to another, King Charles, my deepest sympathies.
At 02:33, you can see the royal heads of Europe together in one section of the church, including Queen Sophia of Spain (now the queen mother) who is in middle of second row next to her husband King Juan Carlos who was forced to abdicate in favor of his son (standing on aisle). Queen Sophia, as a former princess of Greece, was a first cousin to Prince Phillip, a second cousin to King Charles III and a double third cousin of QEII.
I feel if King Charles had his way, they would still be singing “God Save the Queen” for a very long time. Eventually, they will get used to the pain & the void that’s there. Maybe one day, he will be able to smile in appreciation when he hears it, but for now he’s probably thinking they should be singing it for his mother & he probably misses her. Even though he’s had a very long time to prepare to be king, he may even feel that he needs more guidance from her. I have loved ones who’ve passed that I think at least once a week that I wish I had known to ask their advice about this or that, but I can’t now.
2:33 in this part you can see King Harold V of Norway, standing! The king of Norway had mobility issues but insisting on standing for the national anthem of Great Britain in honor of his distant cousin, the Queen
The lyrics, for those who wanted them: God save our gracious king; Long live our noble king; God save the king! Send him victorious, Happy and glorious, Long to reign over us; God save the king! Thy choicest gifts in store On him be pleased to pour; Long may he reign! May he defend our laws And ever give us cause To sing with heart and voice, God save the king!

Her last appearance in an official function was to have her introduction meeting with a newly elected PM that would come to lose that position again not even six weeks later. Especially considering the first PM she met as Queen was Winston Churchill... You can bet Boris was pissed he didn't get to send off the Queen as Prime Minister.
Beautiful cathedral. Beautiful choir and orchestra. Their delivery of God Save the King is stirring and powerful. I will miss Queen Elizabeth who stands as a memorial to English history.
Princess Anne was really worried about him during the Windsor service, Charles looked as though he needed a good old cry. I hope he gets to have time to rest before work goes on.
I'm not a big fan of the Royals - least of all King Charles - but I saw the look on his face, abd I know what he was feeling at that moment.
I just loved the brass....so regal, so authoritative and perfect.....bless Charles and his family
He seemed the most emotional a few minutes later when they removed the crown, scepter and orb from her casket to the altar. We know he was marching around endlessly for days and had been in at least three different cities, but I think that's when it kicked in that his mom was gone and his life would be forever changed.
This was in Westminster Abbey. The Crown et al were removed in St Georges Chapel, Windsor.
You can't even imagine the emotions he gone through in that moment. He lost his mother and stands infront of her coffin but now he is the king, something he waited for his whole life and at the same time the whole church sings god save the king.
I'm sure he's very happy with mixed emotions, LOL!
He held it together so well , his duty kicked in the minute the Queen was pronounced dead . This has been a very long and emotional process for him , probably more so than his siblings ,
Seemed to me as though Prince Edward was also more than a little overcome--and who can blame either of them.
@@cherylannemason Ohh of course , and Princess Anne looked devastated 😢 But Charles had to hit the ground running !
They need to be able to go have a good cry when they need it.

well, most of it consists of trumpets and a fanfare, and a hymn before the anthem, as do many national anthems.

It suits solemn occasions, I think. A typical football/soccer crowd racing ahead of the music and yelling "na na na na!" over the bridge into the chorus takes the shine off a bit. Sung with respect like this, it's pretty powerful.

The Queen made history at 25 and in her passing at 96 she is still making history. The royal family history for centuries is very well documented in detail to this day. Gotta hand it to the Brits, they can do a funeral, no holds barred. I thought the royal weddings were tradition- riddled formality, but seeing this funeral makes me realize how much they have been holding out. Wow. Impressive. (Nice candle placement in that last shot, guys!)
Yeah, that candle placement must have been an ego buster
Like us they have had plenty of experience throwing funerals for many many!
Exactly, the candle shot was gold and added to the aesthetics.

The clip commences with the sounding of "the Reveille' by the Trumpeters of the Household Cavalry. 'Last Post' had already been sounded by the buglers of The Royal Marines. This was then followed by 'The Fanfare' prior to 'God Save the King' (2 verses) which was then then played/sung.

The lyrics, for those who wanted them:

Long live our noble king;
God save the king!
Send him victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over us;
God save the king!
Thy choicest gifts in store
On him be pleased to pour;
Long may he reign!
May he defend our laws
And ever give us cause
To sing with heart and voice,
God save the king!
