      To be fair, we have some really good sports cars now and coming up too.(new miata, toyota's SFR, honda prelude) we currently have a miata and BRZ/GR86 that outperform S2000s for less than half the msrp that an S2000 would have cost today. We still have WRXs and we have the new Supra and BMW Z4, GR Corolla, GR Yaris(not in the US though), Focus ST, Fiesta ST, Mustangs are way better cars now than 20 years ago, Civic Si and Type R/Integra, Golf R, new Nissan Z, M2, Elantra and Veloster N, and more.
      Most have a manual in this incomplete list but in the last 5 years, we really have a decent selection of sporty cars compared to the selection in the 90s. The JDM classics are even out-performed by most of the cars on this list too and for less money than what the MSRP of the 90s cars would have costed today.

      Yes, that’s exactly my point. We are seeing the current crop as potentially the very last of a kind.
      my hope is that a contemporary ND/86 in our garages will be able to run strong for the next 20-30 years.

Your conclusions pretty much exactly my experience too. My second generation GR Circuit is an improvement on the original and, for me a keeper😀 far from perfect but charming much of the time (except… “drowning” down the hi way), will get new tires and suspension at some point (maybe upgraded clutch) still, a practical and smile producing event that I always look forward to. • @Realistick
      @Realistick  22 дні тому +7

      Yes, so if you have auto rev matching, you can actually upshift and down shift without touching the gas or brakes, only the clutch! I don’t use it much in traffic as it gets clunky but the system will stay active through gear changes. It pauses when you hit the brakes or gas, perhaps I will make a video on it, it’s interesting.

      I'm pretty danged old, and age has not abated my hatred of ev's. Love my GR Corolla, and will keep it. Might add a 2-seat sports car like a Corvette when feel like I'm too weak to handle the motorcycle. The GR is a beast especially when there is low traction. And it's practical enough for me as an only car.

    I LOVE my '21 Outback XT, but wish it could be had with better steering and (dare I dream) adjustable suspension. (Manual Transmission? I know - don't even dream about that!)
    I also chose the Outback as my tow vehicle for a 2,000 lb. boat)
    I am always interested in the 'Hot Hatch' type car, but at 61 yrs old, I appreciate a car that is not two inches above the ground with 'rubber band' tire sidewalls', and I don't want a suspension stiff enough to make my (still original) teeth rattle out! My kids both drive, but we still carry a dog crate at times, and need to be able to carry 'stuff'.
    So as eager as I am for your upcoming 'series', I'm hoping that you factor in some critique for more 'mature' enthusiasts such as myself.
    One of these days (years) I WILL (hopefully) buy a car for 'Sunday Drives'!

    I’m sorry, but there is just no excuse to have that cheap of an interior for a car that costs that much. No excuse. You can’t just say “you’re paying for the performance” 4:26-4:28. A Golf R costs just as much, is AWD, is better in every performance category, and has a LOT nicer interior!! There’s simply no excuse! Just because it’s a “Toyota” of who is known to have sub-par interiors, does not mean it’s fine.

    I'm not sure how you put 10k on those factory tires. I switched mine out for a softer, nicer 245. I went to the PS4 A/S since I live in a wet state. I didn't notice any quality control issues besides two rattles. One in my dash pad above the cluster, and one in the pillar where the spring for the seatbelt adjuster is. Outside of that, all my panels are perfectly aligned. Without a few important mods, this car left me wanting. After tires, pitch stop mount, and shifter linkage bushings, I feel a lot better about my GRC. I wouldn't give it up for anything less rare. The G16E-GTS is a 2J with 3 cylinder cut off. I wouldn't sell it. It's too rare.

    Currently the best car is the GR86 with performance package. Yes, I understand the oil issues, but over fill by 500ml and you mitigate much of the issues. It is currently the only car close to 90's 2000 feel, easy to maintain, Naturally aspirated. Its like E30 M3. It is also easy to live with with wear items due to its weight, and also that it isn't AWD. Rather than replace 4 tires with AWD when a tire is not fixable, you only have to replace x2 tires. Furthermore, you can still modify it "properly" to store a compact spare, and put it in the front, not having to worry about damaging the drivetrain.

    Agreed on the suspension, it's the biggest shortcoming. It seems to be their way. The GR86 is much stiffer than the BRZ. I think softer, even with more roll, would more suit the rally character. Given the price, they really could have done adaptive here.

    I can't believe you are selling your GR Corolla. I just got back from a 5300 mile road trip I mine and it was a complete blast. I will never sell this car, it's just too much fun. You should have installed a RacerX short shifter, spherical bearings, and pitch mount. It's amazing the difference they make in the shifter feel. I didn't find the suspension overly harsh in any way during my trip, just nice and firm as I drove back roads on the majority of the trip. You're going to regret this decision!

How do you think the Mustang GT and Camaro fair in Rally? You're comparing apples to peppers here. Different strokes for different folks. The Camaro 1LE and Mustang GT (Six, not the 4) are both ~43k. Also, you're getting an American made car with nearly zero resale value vs a Japanese car with high resale value.
