@@capcyvasile why would you ever carry an expensive device in your back pocket? The fact that people do this baffles me, I can’t think of a less intelligent way to carry it.
@@anostio not expensive at all, i find it fair priced, considering all the high end phones reaching 1200+ these days... I take it in the back pocket for many reasons, reading playing , work, and not having the use of a backpack all the time ! At the beginning i was quite afraid and being odd about the bigger size of it but after a while i got used to it ! And the ipad mini that i had its the sim card version, and the new one i'll have the same
@@capcyvasile are you dumb? He's talking about accidentally sitting on it and breaking it when it's in your back pocket. Also it absolutely is expensive, just because things exist that cost more than it does not change that.
I thought it was tacky when watching the apple event, turns out yall actually use it and it seems to be very popular with pilots. You learn something new everyday I guess!
@@roarbahamut9866 and not only for private Hobby pilots. Military aviators in helicopters and fighters use it as knee board (hence why a bigger one won't cut it) for checklists, flight plans and such. So basically any pilot in a small cockpit
As a person who flies single engine piston planes, you're 100% right. Having your own plane and flying it is pretty expensive and you wouldn't believe how expensive it is to upgrade the panel with modern screens. if you have, for example, a Cessna 177 RG, which might run you $75K, you can easily spend $75K just upgrading the screens that show how fast you're going, your altitude, etc (called "avionics"). If your plane isn't fancy (and you don't have the budget), it's not uncommon to not upgrade it and instead use an iPad mini as the screen. Believe it or not, even in commercial airlines, pilots use the iPad mini!
What is dumb is that it's literally only this way because of Foreflight. They are an iOS exclusive and they refuse to port over to android for some reason. No other aviation apps hold a candle to them so any pilots wanting a decent supplement to the avionics are kinda stuck with Apple devices. I would get an Android tablet immediately if Foreflight can be installed on it, but I might have to cave to Apple since Foreflight is super useful on the ancient rental planes I use.
Yeah, Civil pilots pretty much always have an iPad nowadays, they call it their EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) and replaces pages and pages of Airport charts, flight plans, weather reports etc. Updates in real time whenever the next AIRAC cycle is out (flight plan updates), and are the main way that an airline will inform a civil pilot of the routing. iPad is now pretty important for any pilot's life, not just private light aircraft pilots.
I’ve had my PPL since 2017. Always use Foreflight and an iPad mini as my EFB. Couldn’t imagine having to carry around all those paper charts. Will definitely be ordering this one!
Air Force pilots and aircraft maintainers have been using iPads for about 8 or so years now. On a C-130 it replaces a duffle bag of maps and charts for the pilots. And a billy bookcase of tech manuals (TOs) for the maintainers. The mini fits in a military cargo pocket quite well.
As a physician rounding in the hospital, the mini fits my use case as the larger models are too big to fit in my white coat or scrubs pocket. I have the mini 5 currently and have been waiting 3 years for the refresh we have all been requesting!
Same. Started with the iPad 2, went to iPad mini 2, mini 5 out of necessity of new codecs as it’s my main media consumption device on the go, 256gb with great portability. Now the mini 5 I got is 2.5 years old still working great battery life is a tad worn down but the main reason I upgrade is stereo speakers. A better/ bigger screen is a nice addition
I've been a long time iPad mini fan. I've used other iPads, including the current gen iPad Air and 11 inch iPad Pro. I keep going back to the mini due to the size and pocketability. Thanks to all of the supply chain issues it was next to impossible to locate in stores. I stumbled upon one at Costco the other day and snatched it. I'm replacing my 5th gen Mini, and I'm so grateful for the redesign. My biggest complaint with any of the iPads with the home button was the aspect ratio while watching widescreen content.... This is so much better!
I have an 11 inch pro and im constantly debating if i should crossgrade to a mini. My only hangup is that i fewl like the mini would be less conventional for serious drawing
I’ve been using this for school with the pencil for around a week now and all I can say is that it’s amazing. It does everything you need for college and is a lot bigger than I expected!
iPad mini is HUGE in aviation. It’s great that they included ForeFlight in the demo. The iPad has revolutionized professional and hobby aviation by replacing all paper publications/maps with an iPad, and the mini is the go-to size.
I know that the US Army issues them to pilots when they fly. They are very handy for a whole range of reasons whether it be related to weather monitoring, maps, or emergency procedure checklists.
I bought the iPad Mini 5 with 256gb. I basically use it as my primary computer and video editing machine. It took a lot of practice to make it my primary computing device, but even now it still crushed all of my 4K content creation and file management needs.
@@johngladwaller2436 Kindles and most other e-readers (Kindle is not the only one, but it's the most common choice) have e-ink screens. They're not emissive displays and thus are less harmful for your eyes. Using LCD screens for reading will also result in deteriorating sleep quality, as they emit blue light. Kindle doesn't.
I’m a pilot and I usually tell people to get the 11” iPad Pro as it’s the perfect size and has the power to run ForeFlight without lagging. But of course, it’s expensive so having this as an alternate is great and having the Apple Pencil to right down clearances or route amendments is is also awesome.
My thoughts exactly man! the only thing that was stopping me from upgrading from my iPad mini 2 was the fact that apple has all these huge iPads available. definitely a limiting factor for me as im limited in space flying a piper warrior II. other than that, i am so sick of copying my ifr clearances down on the foreflight scratchpads with my fingers lol. i’ve been looking forward to this upgrade for a while. foreflight is definitely too laggy for me now on my current gen ipad. i’m just stuck between getting the wifi only and the data plan. i will be picking up a stratus ADSB for inflight gps, but the data plan would definitely be convenient on the ground
I used the 11 inch iPad Pro for months but recently switched to an old iPad mini 3rd gen. Lags like crazy, but the small form factor makes it so much easier to manage in a DA40. Been waiting for this update for a while!
@@legoking97 See if your phone has tethering, you can create a wifi network in your plane (off your phone) and the ipad can connect to it and use internet from cell tower.
im currently in school for physician assistant and this is an absolute game changer instead of constantly running out of pages on small notebooks and having a stack of them in my backpack. Also easily can store the ipad mini in my lab coat as i would a small notebook. Use it solely for notetaking and reading research articles
I’ve honestly always preferred the mini’s personally. It’s just so convenient to use. I don’t necessarily use it for productivity, but being a college student now, doing writing assignments in a nice convenient little device sounds very nice. But I mostly use iPads for media consumption and games, but I’ve found that larger iPads are so cumbersome to use for those things. I mostly game and watch entertainment on a phone or tablet while I’m just sitting in bed. Holding up a massive tablet to do that is so so sooooo inconvenient, but the iPad mini, especially the new one, is so perfect for that. I really want one.
@Momo On I don’t mind if you use it haha. But yeah I think the mini’s are targeted towards those who just want an iPad but can’t afford the ones designed more for actual work. They are perfect for reading books (especially the new Mini, it’s like the size of a Kindle) and watching videos. It’s better for that stuff than a standard phone because it’s bigger, but at the same time it isn’t so big that it becomes cumbersome to use for casual media consumption sessions. It’s just the perfect size.
Funny you mention the holding a tablet in bed thing as your argument for the mini. I returned my mini and got an 11” with a magic keyboard and the first thing I noticed when watching movies in bed was how much nicer it was to not have to prop up my iPad on my legs. Also nice to not have my blankets blocking 1/4 of the screen. Granted the price difference is huge but I really prefer the full size iPad with a keyboard case over the mini.
@@AndrewC89 your comment doesn’t make much sense tbh. You mention the Magic Keyboard for use in bed which is an extra couple hundred dollars whereas someone who is using the mini for games or watching movies/TV in bed will probably use a folio case or a case with a stand built in to watch movies in bed which is significantly cheaper. Not to mention the Pro is hundreds of dollars more in its own People who use their legs to prop up their device for bed watching either don’t have a case that stands up or don’t have one at all. Plus having a 11 inch iPad and a Magic Keyboard will make the area you’re using much larger anywho and defeats the purpose of comfortable watching in bed.
I’m a pilot and I use mine for navigation and flight planning. Having the smaller screen isn’t ideal, but when you don’t have a lot of space to work with and still need to keep checklists and stuff somewhere secure, you can’t beat an iPad mini 6 on a kneeboard. I think pilots were specifically considered in the decision to redesign, too. They used touchID instead of faceID, which is super hard to use from a kneeboard (though I’d prefer both and to have a choice, but it is what it is) and Tim specifically mentioned it being strapped to the leg of a pilot in flight along with flying being in one of their ads. Honestly for that use case, at least in small planes, this thing is incredible. The GPS for the internet is basically necessary for ForeFlight, and you can even get good signal a few thousand feet up sometimes, and download new weather and such.
My use case: note taking, digital art, reading e-books and manga (especially manga), watching Netflix on bed or couch. Portability is most important. I'm not carrying my laptop to class or group meetings. Too big. I would love to bring this everywhere; on a trip, coffee shop, class, meetings etc. No other small tablets come close to this.
@@luketzen i replied to you in other video comment, you have only six videos and telling your content is better but now deleted all videos and posted a new video...you re true jealous of him, if you want more subs and views try to do good things
iPads are also common with airline pilots for storing charts, getting weather, dispatch information, etc. I believe Air Canada actually issues a standard iPad to all of their pilots.
We use iPads at my airline. Called an electronic flight bag (efb for short). It replaces the 30-40lbs of manuals and charts we had to carry with us in the past. I love having the iPad on the flight deck!
in the UK transport for London issues iPad minis to all station employees so they can help out + find information for passengers, and you get to take them home
I chose Mini over Air or Pro. Mini is perfect sized for gaming, extremely powerful and i just love how lightweight and easy to handle it is. This little guy also has better battery life than Air 5 or 12.9 Pro. Mini also has the highest screen PPI...even higher than the pro versions so everything looks crispier.
Aside from the pilots, hospitals and college students that marques said, i see this as a good device for restaurants taking orders. it’s small enough to have portability and small enough to take quick orders edit: another use is for people who want simply want to be comfortable at home using their tablet. i have an ipad 8 and if i use it for 10 mins or more it gets a bit uncomfortable to hold and use. this mini would solve my issue, i can lay down on my bed or on my couch and i could feel great, i can sit in the dining table and be on it no issues, i can sit on a chair outside and i would be fine. or even while being in the passenger seat in a car it’s perfect for comfort
@@searic3203 hey the convinces like airdropping the order to the chef is useful. Plus for a small resturant with not that many waiters it should be manageable.
Yes you're absolutely right! I use ipad mini 2 with lightspeed POS but the mini 2 is quite old now so with this mini 6 it will be the perfect upgrade allowing me to take patron orders quickly. Also great as an entertainment device for home use and note taking device. Lots of uses
I am getting one for the simple reason my iPad Pro is too big and heavy to always have with me. The 10” does just fit in my sling bag but the extra weight that it adds means I generally leave it at home. I love having an iPad on me for editing photos and videos on the go which is a bit fiddly on a iphone pro max and will be great for that plus it has USB C which instantly makes it more useful if I need to plug in an SSD or something :)
@@hmm8602 sort of. Depends on what though. For writing you have to have the keyboard, for editing I need my proper pro NLE software. iPad apps are still inferior to all computer pro photo and video apps. That’s why I have my m1 MacBook Air as my portable proper laptop. It’s not my main machine at all but it’s incredibly powerful. I would like an iPad Pro this size, essentially for brightness, oled and refresh rate
My mom uses an iPad mini. She had several standard models, ended up going to the mini models as her choice. She loves the mini because her Main uses are reading with big Text, she found the normal size to be good for reading but uncomfortable to hold for long periods of time, and she finds the mini to help simulate holding the size of a book without the weight. She also finds it much easier to travel with, she can throw it in her stuff with no issues. She also likes the cheaper price, and for her she can get the bigger Text size for reading she needs without it being awkward to hold. There’s definitely more of an audience than you think for it!
I just ordered one for my mom to use for college classes. She can have all her files organized and can take notes. She’s excited and I’m excited to see how she she likes it😍
As a pilot, the mini is awesome and im glad that Apple showcased it being used by pilots quite a lot. It shows that they have recognised a customer base that uses the product and that the demand is there
@Dusan it's still a pretty big difference tho since it's wide. Because the iphone is generally narrow, it's still hard and difficult to read compared to a tablet
@@dusan600 even though the max is 6.7” and the mini is only about an inch bigger at 8.3”, its actually DOUBLE the screen real estate when you put them next to each other. This is kinda the issue with using the diagonal screen measurement.

Also for in-flight shopping the payment computer is an iPad mini with a card reader strapped to it. So yeah, iPad minis are amazing - in their niches.
@@athmaid can’t go into too much detail but we have a lot of manuals and handbooks on it, also always the current flight info, including info on where catering has put what (meals etc.). If there are any issues found we have a reporting system through the iPad as well. On the ground we use it to prepare for the flight (read up on briefing material) and also training purposes - lots of (re-)training happens through interactive digital courses. My airline essentially has their own build of iOS on the iPad mini and lots of custom app you can’t find in the App Store but have to download through my airlines own internal App Store. It‘s pretty cool actually :)
@@athmaid I don't think there's such thing as customized versions of iOS. Apple never disclose the source or make custom iOS build for specific customers. However there's a feature in iOS that allows companies to control iOS devices the company owned. For the internal App Store also, I think what she meant was the ad hoc distribution. It allows developers to distribute build of their apps to specific devices without the need to submit it to App Store.
As a retired person who has used a macbook pro for years I have been toying with the idea of using an iPad for my main computer. Getting emails, UA-cam and Twitter would be my main use. The easy portability and quality of the mini appeals to me.

As a teacher, it’s far more useful than a pro (had the most recent). The reason comes down to actual real world usage. I have an M1 Pro 16 inch to do all my work, the iPad functions as my note taker, schedular etc. Honestly, it does everything I need effectively.
I'm a general aviation pilot and most pilots that I know use a mini to run Foreflight. I personally use a 12.9" in the cockpit. It is a bit too large, but I personally like the larger screen for using Foreflight.
@@chainringcalf I think giving it the Apple pencil support and the larger screen area would be a huge jump. I still use a kneeboard with paper, but you could do away with that with the Apple pencil.

Respectively, me and my instructor are currently using iPad Air 2020 and iPad Pro 2018 for our cross-country flight in Australia. We have to strap our iPad onto our leg via a kneeboard and it sometime gets in the way when we’re performing a take-off or a climb as the yoke hits the top of the iPad. Also, it is a hassle when I have to reach behind the iPad to grab the checklist as my flight school’s SOP doesn’t allow us to use electronic checklists. I might take a gamble and buy the iPad mini to replace my Air and hope that it doesn’t get in the way as it is in a smaller form factor. If the air does solve these issues, I might recommend the Mini to my instructor.
Got my wife a mini 2 years ago for reading books when you couldn’t get books in person when the libraries closed. She LOVEs it because it is small enough and light enough to hold with one hand for a long time. Much better than ereader in many ways because one device does everything, just need to keep it plugged in at night.
I’ve been an iPad mini user for years and find it’s great for reading (it fits in my small hands), note taking and it’s excellent for legal work. Generally, I use the mini for notes while on telephone conferences with clients, send to text to my assistant, who files it electronically in the client file. It’s incredibly useful in depositions, too. I admit that I use my Pro for trial work, simply because of the volume of information needed. But both are excellent tools.
I have the iPad Pro and picked up the mini and I’m just blown away by how ,Cush more I use it. The fact you can type in portrait mode almost like an iPhone is game changer for me. Means I can actually use the device completely away from a keyboard so I don’t really need to carry the case anymore. This is the perfect coffee shop companion. I’m also using this in my pouch alongside my fuji camera to edit some, pics on the go. No backpack needed to carry this thing. :) the screen isn’t great like the iPad Pro but it’s honestly fine as you said. I already forgot about the 120hz. The perfect iPhone and Mac companion.
Its the perfect size for Doctors/Med Students. I had one during Med School because it fit perfectly in coats/scrubs pockets, so I used it for studying in between rounds and during the day
Yeah, I think that most reviewers don't 'get' the mini. They think the smaller form factor is a negative. Like it is some kind of secondary device that you only use for a specific purpose. Having it be so small and light is a total game changer, I love the mini.. hope they never stop making them.
I was thinking about getting this for my dad. He’s a teacher and the mini would be a perfect handheld wireless device that he can write on while projecting with airplay. Instead of sitting and pointing from a computer he can be up at the screen and do all his highlighting, writing, and pointing with the pencil. A lot cheaper than interactive white boards at that price.
I used to be a teacher and actually used the iPad like this! In some lessons, students were painting images on paper and I took photos which I projected on the wall later to talk about in class. it's quite a versatile tool!
I use the basic/normal iPad 2018 for my university notetaking, and I plan on using it later on as a teacher as well. Although the mini is more portable, for lots of notetaking and presenting/annoting powerpoints I think it might get uncomfortable quick since you'll have to scroll a lot more than you would on a normal sized iPad. I think it might be better if you get him the normal sized one, as the extra screen space makes note taking and presenting more comfortable, but it's not overly large. That's just my 2 cents :) PLUS, it's somewhat cheaper!
Late to the party but it makes for a really good portable second display. Especially while traveling. I have a 13 mbp and this worked out perfect for me without taking too much room in a bag or in a small workspace environment
honestly i've always loved the mini- it's so much more portable and is the same size as my other journals/notebooks and feels kinda like an incredible lil notepad
I just looked at this review as a formality. When it was announced, I already planned on getting it. I’ve only owned iPad Minis. The other iPad models were always bigger than I wanted. I use mine while traveling and with my job. The size is more maneuverable to me, and easier to put in my bag.

Wait, somebody actually spents that much cash just to put it on a wall?? Thats does not seem well thought through...Literally any other tablet-like device would do...
The iPad Mini is a fantastic Emergency Management tool, with cellular. Even in a rugged case, it fits neatly in bunker gear pockets, and is able to provide live weather mapping, quickly pull up FEMA info, run WebEOC, have HazMat info at a glance and fill out ICS-214 paperwork on the go, along with EMS charting on the fly. I use it with a a knee board, which is used primarily by pilots.
On the go drawing and reading books would be my use case. It’s the same form-factor as my sketch pad and I love not just how easy it is to carry, but how easy it is to move around when actively using it.
Yes! This is why I bought one! I love the size and it also makes it much more accessible that way. I used to have a very big one that I never bothered to pick up because it was basically like carrying a laptop.
@fuschia lol, true. Adore my MS Surface for work, but I've used the thing as a tablet maybe... twice a year. It spends the vast majority of time docked to dual monitors
As a specialist I have to perform many quick ultrasound examinations in the ER it’s almost like cheating your way to diagnosis. It has always been a hassle to either drag a massive heavy Ultrasound machine, that doesn’t have a battery and needs 2 Minutes to start up or walk a sick patient to the US Room. This is the magical solution. An iPad mini combined with a portable ultrasound probe like Butterfly. There are even wireless double sided probes with curvilinear and linear sides with decent image quality and like 4 different modes. Apple even mentioned that in their keynote. my first apple product was an iPad mini, it's notebook size made and "low" price made it appealing as a replace for my laptop, so the answer for "who buys this?" is students who can't afford the iPad Air and don't want to carry a bulky, slow laptop to school
iPads have always had a special place in my heart. I never use to really be an apple guy but over the years that’s changed. When I was in junior high 7 years ago, they gave all students an iPad mini. I remember using it so much to watch movies, and UA-cam and seeing this video reminds me of that nostalgia. I stopped using apple products until midway though high school when I switched from Samsung to iPhone and slowly but surely I seeped into the Apple Ecosystem. I now own the 2021 iPad Pro, iPhone 12 Pro Max, and 2021 M1 pro MacBook Pro as well as an Apple Watch Series 7 and AirPods Pro. Will continue using Apple products for years to come!
I’ve been using the iPad as an electronic flight bag for 7 years. They’re great for pilots because space is so limited, and if you plan on mounting it to the windscreen, you want as little of your view taken up by a screen as possible. It also straps to a knee without getting in the way of flight controls.
When it comes to size, the mini is actually the right size to hold for extended periods of time. If you look at a TV series like Star Trek: TNG that use tablets to depict the future, they’re usually about the size of the mini or slightly smaller.
Lots of medical people use them since it fits easily into a white coat pocket and can be used to pull up a patient's chart/images to explain health conditions
Almost 6 months using this ipad mini as my dedicated textbook reader/media consumption tool and I haven't looked back since. I have a iPad pro that I use to take heavy duty notes during class, and do intensive drawing projects/video and photo editing, and I found that it was really uncomfortable to just use it as a "entertainment tablet." so this iPad mini gets to take up that duty, and the form factor is perfect for lounging or just taking it out for a moment or two to relax out.
I’m happy with my 2019 mini that I got last year, but I like using the mini as something easy to carry around. I also read comics/manga/books and enjoy having the smaller form factor for my usage. I’m glad they’re still making them so if I need a upgrade in the future I can still get this size.
I'm in the same boat as you. Do you find that the screen is a bit small for comics? I still find myself zooming into certain panels. But so far, so good!
@@azmaniandevil I use Marvel Unlimited and Shonen Jump, Marvel has zoom for each panel and works quite nicely. The size is perfect for me and I’ve never felt it was too small for my uses. You hit the nail right on the head Marques. I’m a pilot, I have an 11” iPad Pro right now but I would rather have the Mini as my dedicated “Aviation” device and then continue to use my Pro for everything else (school, work, media, etc). I can’t wait for mine to show up! Also, I agree, a “Pro Mini” would be absolutely amazing.
I have the pro right now when I’m flying because of the second gen pencil and thin bezels. I’m excited to Mount this on my yoke though because it’s small enough.
I’m looking into this as a second iPad to my iPad Pro. I love my iPad Pro, but with keyboard and everything, experience is like a laptop. I still touch the screen every once in a while, but I rarely take it off the keyboard to use it as traditional iPad. iPad mini would be great for book reading, taking quick handwritten notes, web surfing etc.
4:20 Hell yeah there is someone out there who has some things in mind what to do with the iPad mini. The purpose for devices is the most essential thing. And for me the iPad Mini has hands down the best purpose out of all tablets because I literally treat it as tablets were intended for. Watching movies, watching youtube, writing emails, gaming, taking notes etc. For me it is a phone substitute. Damn I can‘t wait to get mine 😭
The mini is also a favorite of most military pilots. I'm a recently retired USAF pilot and all we used in ejection seat cockpits was the mini because its the perfect size for a small cockpit. Not just hobby pilots. Airline pilots use full size iPads.
I love the mini for reading kindle books , watching shows, reading magazines and UA-cam in bed or on planes. It’s just easy to hold. I hate huge tablets.

This fits everywhere ... even in my tiny clutch purses for those... formal events that I have to go to for networking purposes.
As someone who used to work in Apple retail, the mini was always what I chose to carry as opposed to the 6th and 7th gen iPads we had at the time. It allowed us to have the mobility we need and just was a bit easier to keep on your person when you weren’t using it than the larger iPad was. I think if you’re quite mobile but need a larger screen the iPad mini fits nicely above a big screen phone and below a standard iPad, and it’s defo the most underrated and overlooked Apple product imo
I love that it feels like holding a book. And just the right size for videos. I’ve used regular iPads and I don’t need all that screen. I use it for entertainment and some light note taking, not intense work!
As a line tech at an FBO, I see a TON of pilots with an iPad Mini. Not just "hobbyist pilots" in small piston planes, but corporate jet pilots in Falcons and Gulfstreams
Yes, it is actually very common for them to have the latest technical manuals and checklists loaded on an iPad, for the ease of use, ease of update on a wide scale, and economy of paper
They are the perfect tool for home automation systems. I use the mini at a lot of my deployments. Lots of people don't want a full iPad on their wall and the Android tablets often don't work as smoothly. The iPad mini without a button will really make our customers happy.
I love the size of the mini, the normal iPad is just to big. The mini is perfect for how I like to play games while not being unruly while sitting in a chair.
I agree and I have fairly large hands. I’m currently still using my iPad mini 2nd generation and love the size. I do wish the new mini would come with an audio jack port though
@@thehardyboys4227 You sure got your use out of your Mini 2! I have a Mini 1, 2, 4 and 5 because I think they’re the best tablets around. I can’t justify replacing the 5 because iOS 15 runs so smoothly on it. I will wait a year before picking up a Mini 6 or a 7 if it’s out by then.
I've been using ipad mini since inception. For me the key features are: - kids, you don't want something super big that either overpowers kids of just cracks easily - you want bigger screen with you when on the plane - you don't want to pull out a massive screen that would be like a laptop - if you're going on some short trip but don't need to drag a laptop with you All in all I would classify mini as "not every day" tablet - why get a large brick that you dread to take with you, easy to store, robust middle ground between phone and laptop. Edit: forgot about drone use :) it's way better to pilot a drone with larger screen, while not having to drag a large PRObrick with you.
For book reading buy an E-reader. Reading books on a lit screen is exhausting after some time. That's my experience at least, buying an E-reader is like on of my best investments ever.

That's where the value really comes to life for me. The price on these new ones is pretty crazy, but I'm picking mine up tomorrow. For the amount of hours I use mine a week, it is well worth it.

I've always used my Mini for reading books and quick reads for emails and the like. It's easier to pull it out of my bag and do some quick refreshers as opposed to the MB Air or the iPad Pro. I ended up getting the simple Apple Cover for it since it mostly sits either on the nightstand or in a bag when not used so I don't have much fear of dropping it.
When I was in nursing school, we were required to buy an iPad mini so that it fit into our lab coats for clinical in the hospital. Logic being, we could reference our books/google with any questions. Good idea, very impractical.
It was impractical because the lab coat was hot and often got taken off. The weight of the iPad was burdensome when caring for patients ( changing/ reaching/ etc). I would remove the iPad from my pocket out of fear of forgetting it somewhere.

Great review! Like your "cut to the chase" approach. You pointed out specs, comparing with specs of the other iPads and was very non-judgmental about others preferring a mini to the full size iPad. Loved how you emphasize the importance of a buyer knowing how they intend to use the iPad, and being aware of its capabilities and limitations. Kudos to your ability to overlook negativity, including comments of a condescending nature, projecting preference on others. Anonymity gives many people the outlet to be unkind. SMH
My first iPad was the mini 2. My favorite thing about the size is that it can fit in my hoodie pocket. I use it mostly for media consumption and rhythm games
My first iPad was a mini and I thought I would never use it, I used it, fell in love with it… but I have since moved on to an iPad Pro. The mini still calls to me though because of the form factor. It’s small enough to fit in a jacket pocket, it’s super portable and so I would probably be more likely to take it with me wherever I go and use it for things I currently use my phone for, and sketching. I find it compelling enough to be tempted, but I think I would be more likely to buy this as a gift for a family member.
Exactly as you say ± 5:10 iPad Mini is in my opinion the best option at least for GA pilots (larger planes has some sort of mount or at least more space).. I have iPad Pro 11" and its so big to put on leg or somewhere else. I usually fly Diamond aircrafts and there is not so much space. Another downside of iPad Pro size is big screen means bigger area and this means faster overheat problems especially during summer. The best is when you need your instrument arrival chart and ipad show you .. "overheat will be shut down soon" Haha . So I expect this problem to be minimized with iPad mini .. I hope... I'm glad you mentioned the bezels with regard to holding the actual device. You need SOME bezel. Full-screen devices look cool but are unwieldy. Excellent demo as always
@@kaleb5926 I disagree but it's totally subjective. I don't want the screen to respond if I unwittingly touch the very edge. Only for me personally, just my preference

I had an iPad mini when I was in University. That was the best upgrade from my original iPad. It's lightweight and it fits into the pocket of my coat. I carry it around all day and have all my ideas and lecture notes on it. That played a very important role in my life.
Another Pilot here! I've been following the leaks and patiently waiting for the new Ipad mini release. My aircraft's whole instruments setup is based around the ipad mini. All my flight and engine information is sent to the ipad, instead of "traditional" aircraft instruments, so I'll definitely be getting this one!😎🤟🏼
Welp, I practically sleep with my 11" iPad Pro and magic keyboard, but even it can be heavy and clunky to carry everywhere so today I picked up a Mini 6 and am already enjoying the fun form factor. But habits die hard so instead of picking up an Apple pencil to go with it I ordered a bluetooth keyboard case for it even though I know the keys are tiny. I do have a special use for it though as a wireless remote video camera controller -- my iPhone is too small and 11" pro too big, so the mini gets the goldilocks award!
They are a great work pad in the hospital, small enough that they can fit in my lab coat. You can organize your notes really easily, jot down important reminders and tasks. I can use it as a shorthand laptop to look up anything I need. They are also a great tool in helping patients understand difficult protocols or anything related to their health that may not be clear.
Yes, pilots love these! We normally mount these on the yoke (think airplane steering wheel) so it can't be so big that it gets in the way. Thanks for the shoutout!
I got one for several use cases: Purse computer, secondary screen for when I need multiple apps simultaneously, and much easier-to-see Waze device when mounted in my car.

Giveaways brooo please i need this for school😭
@@AndrewC89 your comment doesn’t make much sense tbh. You mention the Magic Keyboard for use in bed which is an extra couple hundred dollars whereas someone who is using the mini for games or watching movies/TV in bed will probably use a folio case or a case with a stand built in to watch movies in bed which is significantly cheaper. Not to mention the Pro is hundreds of dollars more in its own
People who use their legs to prop up their device for bed watching either don’t have a case that stands up or don’t have one at all.

Foreflight may be a bit expensive but damn it’s so nice!
The mini4 for foreflight is fantastic. This one will be even better, but I'm not sure it's enough better
@@chainringcalf I think giving it the Apple pencil support and the larger screen area would be a huge jump. I still use a kneeboard with paper, but you could do away with that with the Apple pencil.
@@chainringcalf yea, I would have to spend $800 for the extra storage and cellular. Not worth it imo. I’ll stick with the 4 until 128gb is standard. Feels like a money grab.

Its the perfect size for Doctors/Med Students. I had one during Med School because it fit perfectly in coats/scrubs pockets, so I used it for studying in between rounds and during the day
People who use the iPad Mini aren’t super concerned with the “display” quality, its the form factor that speaks to most people.

Interesting use case.
We do this for all teachers in our district. Works fantastic.
How do you use it as a second display? It just switches to display mode automatically by connecting it to the MBP?
honestly i've always loved the mini- it's so much more portable and is the same size as my other journals/notebooks and feels kinda like an incredible lil notepad
I just looked at this review as a formality. When it was announced, I already planned on getting it. I’ve only owned iPad Minis. The other iPad models were always bigger than I wanted.

my first apple product was an iPad mini, it's notebook size made and "low" price made it appealing as a replace for my laptop, so the answer for "who buys this?" is students who can't afford the iPad Air and don't want to carry a bulky, slow laptop to school
Now the ipad is cheaper than the ipad mini
mine too.
iPads have always had a special place in my heart.
They GAVE all students a mini .?! Whoa .. they never even gave us pencils ..🙁

- you want bigger screen with you when on the plane - you don't want to pull out a massive screen that would be like a laptop

This channel needs no explanation of yokes ;)
I got one for several use cases: Purse computer, secondary screen for when I need multiple apps simultaneously, and much easier-to-see Waze device when mounted in my car. The purse computer use case is especially well facilitated by my purchase of a backlit folding Bluetooth keyboard. (The iClever BK05.) It folds to about the size of a smartphone but unfolds to a full-sized keyboard.
Yes, car screens get old fast. This will be looking good for a very long time.
I just got one yesterday and no regrets, I love the size as I can hold it in one hand. I’ll probably use this for media consumption.
