First playthrough: I went to the fightersguild, went to kill some rats, I died, realise I hadn’t saved the whole time so i had to start over from character creation. Great game
I first played this game when i was 7, pretty sure i got the hang of combat, spells etc., but the quests were out of this world for me, as i couldn't differ between west, east, north and south 😂. This game truly rewards basic knowledge 👍
@@PTMGi disagree entirely, part of the charm and joy is having to find stuff. Theres infuriatingly annoying stuff like trying to get Goldbrand, "statue book" but other wise
IIRC the biggest problem with a Skyrim player coming to Morrowind is that Skyrim levels enemies to you, but in Morrowind you can very easily run into an area that is WAY above your skill level. Remember to save your progress and quick save often.
I always forget to save lol as far as enemies though, the tougher enemies are usually pretty well tucked away. As long as you know the places to avoid, like daedric ruins and ancestral ruins early on, most of the enemies you run into are pretty mild
@@PTMG That is true but I try to avoid (for example) cliff racers until later on and the first time I happened upon Umbra it did not end well. Also I have seen people complain that the Ancestral Tombs near Seyda Neen are too difficult. Not knowing they should stay away until they have something more than basic weapons for the ghosts. 😅
@@JMulvythe seyda neen ruin you just need a basic long blade stat and grab the sparksword from the flying elf whose name eludes me right now. Alternatively, find the fire dagger in the stump near the elf if youre shortblade, or the enchanted shardaxe if youre axe. Or walk up the coast to the shipwreck and get the silver longsword. That dungeon is pretty easy, Im currently on my first playthrough. I had a harder time with the slaver mine by the seyda silt strider since i only had 30hp at start and the mage one shot me
I've played skyrim and oblivion religiously for years, so I figured morrowind would be a walk in the park to figure out. Strangely enough, nope! Makes me feel like I've never played a game in my life!
I started my Elder Scrolls tenure with oblivion at release. Then of course hit the midnight release for Skyrim and have put an absurd amount of time and playthroughs on it, but now I’m delving into Morrowind on a serious playthrough for the first time! Thanks for the vid 🤙🏻
@@PTMG Dude same. I actually had Morrowind on PC first since it was all my PC could play at the time. It ran pretty well but it was a really complex game and I never really played it seriously. I finally got a decent laptop and my friend gave me his cracked copy of Oblivion and oh my God I loved it. Played it all the way until Skyrim came out and have been playing mostly Oblivion/Skyrim for the last decade or so but still have never really played a serious playthrough of Morrowind.
I started this game the other night. Almost got so frustrated I stopped playing but slowly and surely I’m learning. Navigation and combat are tough but I find this game has the most relaxing atmosphere. The music is like therapy
Elder scrolls have the best soundtrack in gaming imo. I give that title to skyrim personally but im not mad with people picking other games. Must be elder scrolls tho 😅
I remember trying to play 4 or 5 years ago, and quitting after 15 minutes because I was used to the way other Bethesda games function. Thank you, this is very useful, I am beginning a playthrough tonight!
Stealth build with magic is my fave. Brute force is just asking to be over encumbered at all times. Important to note: going down the path from Seyda Neen and looking around a bit allows you to find a slain tax collector with free gold if you're not being honest and a random wood elf who falls from the sky and leaves some cool stuff behind that you can keep or sell. Exploration is actually a great thing to do in Morrowind, but Quick save is important. It's not easy. A lot of it is trial and error. If you can't do that, it's not the game for you.
Brute force doesn’t necessarily encumber you if you increase your strength with each level gain. Plus strength helps you hit harder and increases your health so it’s a necessity for any build anyway.
After playing Starfield, I became a huge fan of Bethesda Game Studios, so I decided to check out all their games starting with Morrowind, and MAN it's tough going from a very action based game to dice rolling lol. I won't give up though, and this video will surely be useful, thank you very much 🙏
Im so happy you started with morrowind, it'll make you appreciate the differences more. For the next game you play id recommend Fallout 4, its much more similar to Strafield and has a bigger emphasis on the settlement building than Starfield does.
@@HS.0J what you mean? Lmao. Im not saying it bad per say. But for it to be someones first bethesda game. There are better choices at hand. With deeper lore, story and gameplay in my opinion. I anit shitting on no one lmao but Try morrowind and then try to tell me it worse than starfield with just world building alone. Games just arent what they used to be.
I started my first play through, made long sword my major skill, tried using the dagger, died to the first enemy, didn’t save, lost my character and came straight to this guide
Thanks a lot for the tips. I only played Skyrim since '11 and got hooked into the TES lore from the beginning of Nirn to 4E. The gamemplay might be the same as Skyrim's (fighting, magic, stealth, stealing and crime) but navigation, HUD, inventory and talking to NPCs are totally different, I gonna climb a steeper learning curve here than what Skyrim has. I'll put in mind what you say here: (1) Don't just go out in the open and kill stuff. Prep up first by earning gold and train. (2) Play according to your build. Well, that is unlike Skyrim but this here in Morrowind gives players a specialty. And (3) do what the effin quest tells you.
Go with a Dark Elf, choose Long Blade and Destruction , any other skills you like but I recommend to choose athletics and acrobatics you can level just moving and jumping around. For your sign choose The Lady and youre golden for your first playthrough
2:55 I remember first stepping off the ship and seeing that guard. After talking to me he started walking like he had crapped his pants. Epic memories.
The first time I played this game, right after my first playthrough of skyrim, I hated it after dying in 5 minutes. Then I played planescape torment, and after that Morrowind started to flow. Just talk. To everyone. Make a habit of asking relevant questions to everyone, and you'll always find your way.
Skyrim addict here (I have purchased at least 5 separate copies of Skyrim since it's release) I tried oblivion after Skyrim back in 2013, and young me could not stand the perceived massive downgrade. Now that I've matured a bit and absorbed much more TES lore via wikibinge, I wanted to try again. However, over the years I've heard more support in the community for Morrowind, so yesterday I downloaded it, picked male argonian, let the guy generate my class, got healer, didn't question it, spent 3 in game days killing every mudcrab and scrib between the starting town and vivec with my bare claws, joined the fighters guild by accident, and then ended my first play session lvl 4 with a hand-to-hand of 80. I figured out early that 3rd person melee has no end lag and if I stood still my fatigue regenerated as fast as punching continuously cost. I have realized what feels like too late that I've basically locked myself out of using actual weaponry, but I managed to down a bull netch without losing any health, so idk if it's actually a problem yet
I also had a few issues with oblivion at first glance like how underleveled you feel if you immediately get sent to kvatch and enter oblivion at level I, I quit the game really quickly but on my second playthrough I just focused on sidequests and oh my God I fell in love so fast, I think I actually now prefer oblivion to skyrim it feels like there's so much more depth in such a small map
I used to be such a fool, I never gave Morrowind or Oblivion a shot because I didn't like the graphics and the games felt janky af coming from Skyrim. Now that I'm older and have witnessed AAA gaming go down the shitter I've stopped caring about graphics and have started to appreciate older games. This vid definitely helped a Skyrim zoomer like myself :)
as janky as it seems, I still feel like morrowind, similarly to a lot of older games (think like half life or counter strike etc) have a more "free" movement style if that makes any sense Just the way accelerations and jumping mechanics worked, it seems like it gave you overall more mobility as a player character i feel like movement in newer games is overall more sluggish which I think has to do with intent for a more realistic feel Like older games it feels like the character is directly attached to your keyboard, newer games it's like the character is attached to the keyboard by strings or something
Wonderful! I saw this game on Game Pass and I've just downloaded it. Wanted a small insight before I booted it up and this was the perfect video! Thanks for the tips, my guy.
One time I was playing Morrowind I was only a level 3 found a Daedric Shrine and the game glitched and the daedra got caught on something a couldn’t break free so I just stood back and used my bow . Got rewarded with some great rewards !
I recently went to the beginning and played through TES 1 Arena, and I'm almost finished with Daggerfall now. I think it'll be very interesting to get to play Morrowind coming from the earlier games, since it'll be mostly improvements. Both Arena and Daggerfall have dice roll combat as well, and they also have no quest markers. You just have to pay attention to where NPCs tell you go to. Even writing them down is useful. I appreciate your super helpful video! I look forward to getting to experience Morrowind like they did when it came out.
@@PTMG Arena was tedious and the controls were nuts, but I am thoroughly enjoying Daggerfall. It is actually a very impressive game. I have been thinking of giving Battlespire and Redguard a try. Redguards style reminds me of the old Tomb Raider games.
I got kicked out of house, wife wanted divorce, first thing I did was rent apartment, buy xbox and Morrowind, was never happeir in my life. True story she showed up acting like you OK, do you want to talk? I was like No I got to impress this great house see ya.
Thank you. Instead of fast travelling straight to the city, I tried to walk there. While walking, I wanted to explore a cave full of bandits. Of course I got one shot by them. I even lowered the difficulty to very easy but I guess I should not have tried to play like that
If you use 3rd person camera you will notice your char has 2 attack animations. One for quick attacks when you just mash the mouse. Another animation when you briefly hold the mouse and then release. When you do quick attacks you deal the low end dmg of the weapon. When you hold attack and then release you do the high dmg of your weapon. Also, if you're a long blade user you don't need to buy a weapon because just off the starting town following the road you find a body with a good starting magical long blade. There's also a nice magical axe in a tree stomp in the immediate surrounding area of when you first are free to explore, right next to the lighthouse, just jump from a rock near the lighthouse on top of the dead tree stomp to get the axe.
good point about the sword/axe was moreso just showing that you should buy whatever weapon you are best with, there are definitely better options all over the place than just buying a weapon
@@PTMG Oh don't get me wrong. You did a great job explaining the stuff you covered on your video! I just thought i add a little extra if someone reads the comments. tbh, i find it astonishing some of the complains i hear from people who try morrowind the first time. Like you mention many just equip the first thing they find, which is the dagger, and then complain they cant fight effectively. Ignoring the fact they're most likely low skill with it or ignoring the fact they have no stamina. Your video is great for a starting player.
lol yeah this video was made from that same point of astonishment I kept hearing in facebook groups reddit etc people complaining about the combat system and had to set the record straight lol
Just make sure to increase the skill that scales off the stat. Example: leveling up Long Sword 5-10 times gives you a 5x boost in Strength the next time you decide to sleep to level up because Long Sword scales on how much Strength you have. Remember, you can level up ANY skill as much as you want AND can decide when you want to level up by sleeping. So you can technically get 5x on all stats the next time you level up(but that takes a long time and is not really worth it so best to get 5x on skills you're specialized in.)
I didnt have access to any games growing up but here i am, very excited to play Morrowind, though I started only yesterday and died like 3 times to the mage in that first cave with the 2 argonians and a khajiit slave 😭 also I loved thenconcept of a Journal, like an actual journal I would write for my RP characters, not having markers makes you actually think about your next steps.
yeah the journal was cool, but it gets hectic after a while once you start doing a lot of quests definitely needs some optimization as far as being able to organize things goes
As a seasoned MorrowBoomer, I used to think I would appreciate the reverse of this video, until I realized that Skyrim has been castrated for the modern audience and lacks depth like a puddle. You cannot fly, cannot create spell, but you can go here collect the thing to return for the other thing to then go back to the same cave to get the next thing ad infinitum.
Lol played years ago on xbox and been thinkin about checking it out again. Very complicated character selection in the beginning. If you know what is easy to level up put it as a second or third tier skill like acrobatics and jump all the time. It will give you the level up option then you increase your major skill of choice ten times before level up. You get more uhhhh idk perk points lol you get more per level up if you understand. Trying to remember how to play before jumping back in time.
I was 17 when Morrowind came out. I remember getting it on xbox, excited to play a PC RPG, since my Voodoo 3 gfx card in my PC wasn't quite keeping up with new games in 2002 lol. But I wasn't expecting the game I got to be such a radical departure from anything I had ever played. I was so blown away at the concept of what was essentially, at that point in gaming: An Open World Fantasy Simulation. There was no other words to describe such a novel experience in 02... I was floored when I saw that little fucker go hide gold. When I got to Balmora, the first thing I did was break into the shops. I played the game for so many hours, and yet I don't think I ever even talked to Caius Cosades lmfao. I haven't played it since then really, due to me not having a PC or old Xbox for such a long time. But since I have a gaming PC again, I'm finally playing it (with nexus graphics guide's top recommendations of course lol). It feels so good to play a game with so many systems that are strict, but flexible. It's the only bethesda game that I don't feel the need to mod into a completely different combat or leveling system lol
Etho, what has gotten into you? You have to win. Your carelessness will backfire. Being careful will both get you closer to victory and closer to collecting all the cards.
Found this video late! But just in time to coincide with buying Morrowind from Steam at a great price. Let’s hope I can get hooked on the older mechanics since I’ve played everything else from Bethesda like Starfield, Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout (3,NV,4)
I don't mind the idea of low weapon skill lowering hit rate, it makes sense if I'm fighting someone with a weapon they're well versed in and I'm using one I've never held it makes sense that I'd land very few hits. The point where the system falls apart is when I fight a worm, a creature with no arms or legs, and somehow miss 99% of attacks
here from daggerfall, the dungeons were too darkly lit for me to continue playing it was hard to transition though since there's such a steep learning curve
You can carry torches. You can have magical night vision. You can have a magical light illuminating your surroundings. You can increase gamma. Dungeons are supposed to be dark. Most of them are caves...
I don't think I have any fancy shaders or anything, just the resolution and render distance from MSGE I run the game at 2k resolution so things look more detailed even with the normal textures/shaders
When you get in the starting town if you follow the road you will come upon a book in the middle of the road if you walk up to it a mage will fall from the sky and die and you can loot his stuff he has an enchanted sword and mage gear for free without having to fight him
Also, if you do the first quest and simply go to talk to Caius Cosades, he'll ask if you want to train or get a mission. If you say "mission" he literally just tells you to train anyways by saying something along the lines of "Well i suggest talking to the trainers" and then gives a mission, which is: join a guild
also could be worth checking out my best start video I just put out today Goes more into detail on how to get your character set up all cozy for a decent playthrough as opposed to just explaining the gameplay mechanics
Man thank you for making this video i made the huge mistake of not reading enough dialogue and getting lazy and missed basically everything important lmao too reliant on quest logs and markers i suppose!
Skyrim player here lol I refuse to even look at the comments and just want to throw out this idea Neither game is better or worse….everyone is entitled to a personal preference. Also, it isn’t a crime to be younger and to have played Skyrim first. Nobody should judge you for that. Similarly, you shouldn’t judge Morrowind negatively just because it isn’t the same as Skyrim. They are fully different games. It should be judged by its own standards, and then analyzed by the context of the time it came out and also the context of how things have changed since then. Sorry, just trying to fight negativity in the fandom. These games are great and give me a lot of joy and it is nice to be able to interact with people about them, but it’s honestly a net negative on my life when fandoms become overly negative, which seems to come and go in cycles.
All true, we just give shit to Bethesda for dumbing down a lot of their modern games(Stanfield😂) but they're obviously fun for their beloved fans. Each installment has VASTLY different gameplay styles and vibes. Morrowind plays like a classic d&d rpg game. Oblivion is a huge mess gameplay wise but definitely has that STYLE in terms of the world and memorable characters. Skyrim is barely a rpg game and has really lost the touch of the classic role-play D&D BUT is still amazingly fun due to the gameplay and quests.
great tutorial, got a good laugh out of it too, just gotta get some basic mods sorted out and actually do the effort of pressing the launch game button now
i think the biggest issue i encountered when playing morrowind was literally just the graphics. the fov in particular made it very difficult to discern the goings-on of the world. other than that i think the main difficulty for modern audiences is how much you have to pay attention to the game, no quest markers and a not-super competent world map mean you really have to engage with the game, which is difficult and alien to players like me used to playing skyrim at the same time as listening a podcast a 2x speed.
Just got back into Skyrim. I only played oblivion before that. I got Morrowind a few years ago but only played it for an hour or two. Trying to get back into it and have no idea what I'm doing. I'll probably bounce around. I just got every elder scrolls game. Started a guy in daggerfall unity too. For some reason this is the hardest one to start so far. At least for me.
First time playing the game and when I did the Mages Guild quest about planting a fake stone in the enchanter's desktop, when I saw her away from her desktop my first instinct was to literally steal everything there. Now I'm running away with a soul gem that sells for 60k gold and no one can buy it cause darn merchants only ever have like 1.5k in their inventories max.
well you should honestly use it to enchant anyway, because really the only thing there is to do with money is to enchant stuff, or do training But if you need to sell expensive stuff, use the scamp trader or mudcrab merchant (i have a recent video on my channel on the mudcrab who has 10k gold supply) and you sell a bunch of cheaper stuff to the mudcrab, like dark brotherhood outfits or potions, resting 24 hours to get the 10k back every time once you sell him 60k worth of stuff, you buy all 60k back at once, so that the mudcrab has 60k gold in his inventory, then you can sell the 60k soul gem. After you do that, you just keep sleeping 24hrs to get his 10k back, and slowly sell all the cheaper stuff back to him to get your money back again. It's tedious but it's the only way to sell stuff like daedric armor and weapons, or grand soul gems
@@PTMG my character's (supposed to be) an enchanter, but I don't really know how enchanting works in this game. If he uses the soul gem to enchant something, will it not get spent? I don't really have many spells unlocked, and to me this game looks like it'll roll a die and tell me the enchantment failed, but still consume the soul gem, same way my spells often fail but still consume Magicka, so I don't know if I should risk losing a potential 60k gold. On the flip side I could use some training!
honestly I just go to enchanters to enchant stuff it costs money but it never fails and it's pretty easy to get money in morrowind you can find a surprising amount of grand soul gems lying around in barrels and crates when you are exploring dungeons. then you get a golden saint (they have the highest enchantment value) summon spell, so you can summon a golden saint, soul trap it and capture it in a grand soul gem, and these souls can be used to make constant effect enchantments on armor (only the highest level souls/gems can do constant effect enchantments) but yes they do get spent
i got this game for my birthday when i was about 10 or 11 years old. i followed the directions pretty well but when i got to Cosades' house i killed him and stole his skooma because i saw how valuable it was. got the doom screen and proceeded to aimlessly wander balmora looking for shit to steal so i could just buy better loot and repeat the process until i got bored
Yeah I suck at this game. I have never played an elder scrolls game and I and definitely unfamiliar with PC gaming in general. I quit playing today because I closed a game window and couldn’t figure out how to bring it back up. I need this content lol
If you stick with it, it's a pretty chill game that's fun to mess around with the mechanics of, and just explore in general, once you get the hang of things
Glad you enjoyed it! Honestly that prison boat never gets old for some reason. Oblivions intro got old after the first time through it (gotta make that sewer save) Skyrim's intro got old before you even got off the wagon But for some reason that morrowind intro is just right
Just don't think too much about leveling and play on the easiest setting if it's your first time through As long as you focus your efforts on one combat style, and for melee builds one weapon style, you will do fine throughout the game even without efficient leveling strategies As you get the hang of things a bit more then it's easier to really plan your builds pretty well, and utilize trainers etc. for efficient leveling, and an efficient character build altogether. Either way it's pretty easy to eventually get overpowered, you just gotta be careful and kinda figure out what your limits are at lower levels. Past like level 15-20 though you are early unstoppable. And once you get well beyond level 30+ you are an absolute machine.
On one of my first attempts at playing the game, I had much of death mountain spoiled for me, so when I found the scrolls of icarian flight, i spent an hour trying to fly there without killing myself from fall damage. I eventually got to Dagoth Ur (somehow) at level 5 or something. Needless to say, i was so far from ever killing him that I gave up on it for, like, 6 months. How can you kill a god anyways?
Honestly my biggest problem is the ui and controls. I have such a hard time figuring out how to do the things I want to do like alchemy, spell casting, or even just finding my way around
controls can be remapped (like e being jump and space being the use key, I definitely swap those) but I think they are actually the same in oblivion too The whole ready spell thing is confusing as fuck though I definitely remember being confused about a lot of stuff about this game back in the day
So if im to understand correctly, the gist of this game is DONT go out and kill stuff right away? Did I get that right? I just want to make sure that THAT was the gist.
morrowind does not use enemy level scaling as in newer TES games. so if you start killing stuff right away you will notice that you might stumble into a dungeon that you cannot complete because enemies are too high level for you. majority of enemies in the game have set level that does not scale to the player. so you will find yourself doing easy quests to get gold to train your skill at trainers before going clearing dungeons.
lmfao no but actually yes. Once you figure out the combat system enough to get confident of course. Honestly, I usually start every run with killing everyone in seyda neen (the people alone in houses at least) and stealing/selling all their stuff. It's not that bad once you learn to recover your fatigue before you fight and get basically any weapon that isnt the starting dagger.
Think about it, this game is so far ahead of its time. The most popular game of this time was GTA 3 and this game is leaps and bounds ahead leave it to Bethesda to set the bar ! Excited to see how bad ass tes6 is
How to enjoy Morrowind 1 open up the constructionset >settings and increase runing multiplier and swimrunmultiplier 2 Go into skills and increase the use value for Athletics This is what every sane Morrowind player does because, man, that slow movement speed is so terrible. I kid you not, the slow movement speed was much more of an obstacle in me enjoying Morrowind than the combat was.
but man does movement get pretty good once you get it all maxed out peak elder scrolls movement is morrowind with max athletics and acrobatics hopping around everywhere
@@PTMG It definitely does get's better but it is still incredibly annoying and I am impatient so I increase the athletics use value in the contraction set so it levels much faster and put it as a miscellaneous skill. I made a mod for Morrowind that does just that. There is no reason why athletics should level up incredibly slow in Morrowind and even Oblivion when in Daggerfall it leveled up at a fairly normal rate.
"Just do what the game tolds you to do" - yep it's exactly just that. But meanwhile I saw a youtuber who, while showing on the screen the quest journal literally saying 'I have to find X. I should go talk to Y because he knows where to find him', was complaining that he'd talked to 30 NPC's for like an hour and he didn't know how to find Y so he gave up. I was like: bruh, really...
There is one quest where the journal tells you to go west but it's actually east (cant remember the exact directions, but it ended up being the opposite direction)
most likely, there are a few different mixed classes so I wouldn't be surprised I know spellsword is a pre made one I still recommend just making it yourself though tbh
Had to watch this video cause I played this like Oblivion and got ruined for it. Died wayyy too many times and was running super slow w/o realizing why. I did follow the instructions but the map was confusing for me so I ended up putting the game down only to wanna try it again but this time I’ll do it correctly
yeah the speed is a killer early game, definitely recommend the steed and then working on athletics almost immediately. Whether that be using alchemy money making to just buy your way to 100 athletics, or just auto walking towards a wall and leaving it there for an hour or something, definitely makes the game a lot more fun to have higher movement speed
Ah yeah I forget about that little caveat sometimes Pro tip: you can still wear non face-covering helmets (think like the imperial helms etc.) And yeah they have a different walk animation, but most importantly argonians can breathe under water, and swim faster.
You can also take conjuration as a major or minor skill. You want it to be at least 25, some race class combinations can get that with minor otherwise make it major. If you take conjuration, you start with the bound dagger spell. With short blade as a major skill, bound dagger will carry you through a lot of fights if you just want to explore immediately. Just make sure to buy armor first and remember that Morrowind has no level scaling, if a fight seems impossible you probably wandered into a high level dungeon or area. If you don't want to use short blade, the mage's guild in Balmora sells most of the other bound spells and Fort Moonmoth nearby Balmora sells a few more. Bound weapons and armor are very good in Morrowind, the weapons are just just as good as daedric and also fortify your skill with the weapon type by 10 which is a big deal for increasing accuracy. The armor is light and almost as good as glass with some neat enchantments. Bound weapons are honestly good enough to use for the whole game if you want.
@@PTMG Correct. I said to pick short blade as a major skill if you want to do this. Even without sheath focus it will be at around 30 as major, then boosted to 40 by bound dagger. If you want to pick a different major weapon skill you need to get the bound weapon spell for that skill. Mage's guild in Balmora sells most of them. Personally, I think going for spear as a major skill and using bound spear is the strongest option but any of them can work.
I know its a year later but what if I chose my attributes to be a battle-mage. I made a custom battle-mage class because from my experience with oblivion the stock battlemage usually doesn't have restoration as a major skill. And instead focuses on illusion. Regardless, in this scenario which would be best, mages guild or fighters guild? Edit: I also saw from another source, and I noticed you did this. You put acrobatics and athletics under your major skills. Which, from what I know is bad. Correct me if im wrong, but this is going to cause you to level up way faster than you should in regards to the games quests. And assuming that this game has monsters that adjust with your level, eventually your going to end up out leveling yourself, and fighting creatures that are way harder than what you can handle, and because your shortblade and or longblade isn't high enough you wont be able to get a good enough weapon to fight said monsters. Would this thought process be true?
I wouldn't say it ruins your leveling in any way, other than its kinda annoying sometimes when you already have 10/10 skill increases to the next level, but you get a random athletics level, since bonuses don't carry over to the next level. So if you already had the max +5 bonus to speed, and 10/10 skill increases, the athletics level would put you at 11/10 (1/10 after you level up), but wouldn't add anything to the +5 speed bonus, and it wouldn't give you any bonus for the next level up (so no +2 or whatever). Other than that though, athletics and acrobatics usually don't increase fast enough to ruin your build in any way, and as long as you are training your other skills it shouldn't matter. I usually set alchemy to a major/minor anyway, and end up power leveling my character using level ups from alchemy, then spending the money to train my other skills. A lot of different ways to skin the cat in this game, but athletics/acrobatics as a major skill shouldn't really ruin any build, and in my opinion it is far more worth it to have the added speed and jump bonus at the beginning of the game. As for what guild to join, I always join both regardless of build. The thieves guild is the only guild that has a conflict (with the fighters guild) so for quest reasons that one gets weird; but especially if you are a battlemage/spellsword, the benefits of both guilds will be good for your character, whether it's the skill trainers or the equipment chests etc.
A possible alternative is the Spellsword build, which is more of a balanced "fighter mage" character class (Medium instead of Heavy Armor, Restoration included as a Major / Minor skill).
Decided to try out morrowind recently. Yea I pretty much though myself to the the dovahkiin of morrowind. Got absolutely rekt by the 2 fucking rats in the fighters guild quest. This helped.
I dunno if anyone is reading since it's an old video, but something curious just happened to me. My 1st playthrough. Redguard. I leave the first city with a sword and some armor, and then, an old lady tells me some bandits are causing problems in a nearby cave, so i go investigate. There is a mage. I do adrenaline rush and i survive with exactly 25hp. Now, adrenaline rush buffs hp by 25. The buff runs out and i die, but i've saved AFTER i've killed the mage. I hardlocked my game because of it, since i had no healing spell (gave the ring back), no potions either, and had to make another character What the fuck, game
Yeah that's another reason to hold off on combat for a while there's some weird caveats to this game My favorite when I first started playing was wandering into an ancestral ruin and encountering a bonewalker they cast a spell on you that over encumbers you, I think by damaging your strength The only way to fix it is with a restore strength spell or potion, and you literally can't move at all when over encumbered lol
oddly enough, l can handle a shit ton of janky as fuck games but couldn't handle morrowind, thanks to your advice l know the basics now and can enjoy it
I disagree with a good number of your tips for new players, as a new player myself. Most builds would do amazingly picking the lover as your sign, i recommend keeping both athletics and acrobatics off your skill lists. Apprentice is a good sign for breton, as its drawback seems to be negated by bretons perk. Pick an armor, probably light or heavy because picking medium for the early game specifically hurts later. Light armor leaves you with more carry weight. I personally actually did light and medium, as with a little research i intend a light build with the medium ebony mail chest. Definitely add both speechcraft and mercantile to your lists. Pick one combat skill, i also recommend either enchanting, alchemy, or both as they can be ridiculously powerful. Definitely grab the key, unless security is a chosen skill. In that case like me, get that xp. Give fargoth his ring but then go upstairs in the trader shop to the nord next to the stairs. Do his quest to find fargoths hiding spot. I turned in the quest for less gold but both options work. Either way keep the ring. Go clear out the storehouse, youll get a lot of armor, weapons, and drugs. Drop moonsugar and skooma. Drop it all somewhere safe you'll remember it, its unusable now but we will be back for it. If youre a long blade person, dont waste money buying a sword. Go north until you see Tarhiel fall screaming from the sky. Take his iron sparkblade and other loot. Go to the swampy land thats like 50 feet immediately southeast, in a treestump you find an enchanted dagger for my short blade people, and like 50 gold. Youll have to stand on the nearest rock and look down into it. Head north along the coast until you find the ancestral tomb, killing everything you see for that sweet xp. It might take some work. Keep your green bar up, do NOT go into the fight depleted. You will miss. Use enchanted sword only, the ghost wont be hurt by normal weapons. Clear it out, theres a ghost and a skeleton. Remember, if you leave a zone, like go through a zone door to load a new area, mobs cant follow you. You can exploit this quite well. If you have more than like 40-50 hp, the urn is trapped. Go ahead and activate it and get hurt. If you went full mage like me, you might need to have some resist fire and heals ready to activate QUICK. Get the mentors ring. It boosts your magicka stats. Leave and continue north and go to the shipwreck on the coast. Loot it for moonsugar and skooma, and a silver longsword. This is also good against stuff like ghosts. I dont remember exactly where the shardaxe enchanted weapon is, but thats nearby in a tree stump. Now, from fargoths house, head straight west. Youll find a body. Take his shit then go talk to "the choice is yours" guy from the beginning. I handed over the 200gp, and he gave me a quest to find the murderer for 500gp. I did it, killed the guy, and got paid. You dont have to. If youre low hp like me, the smuggler cave by the silt strider is going to be nearly impossible right now, otherwise go clear it out. Grab all the skooma and moon sugar. Keep dumping it in your safe place! By now if youve been resting outside youve probably been attacked by dark brotherhood assassins. Its incredible light armor if you have thst chosen as a skill. Sell any you arent using, its valuable! Finally, for this comment guide, go to balmora. Its a nice walk with more loot, or take the silt strider. Either way once in town find a khajiit trader to sell your drugs to. Now you have between 2-6k and youve barely gotten started! You have a strong build with a good sign.
Not that other signs aren't good, it's just the ones I recommend are ones that help mitigate common problems people have with the game, namely movement speed (steed) and your ability to do damage in melee combat (warrior) This guide keeps in mind a lot of the main things people complain about when they try this game for the first time. I have non beginner guides that go more in depth into better builds and optimizations etc
@@PTMG oh im aware, after watching yours and a lot of others' beginner guides though im speaking as someone playing for the first time. I messed around on og xbox a couple of times but never got past the fighters guild shulk mine in balmora. And even now im only speaking as someone who has done the first 2 balmora fighters guild quests, just got the mags guild quest to actually go do something and not fetch stuff, and about to go to the first main quest dungeon. Warrior sign becomes useless by like level 10 if you pick a good race and actually stat your items, and practice on random mobs. Having extra hp even early game is incredibly helpful. I like your video and not knocking it, just giving my input where i disagree as a newbie. Keep up the good work though!
@@PTMGnot to mention i recommend targeting easy opponents to help level, you recommend skipping. Different priorities, but imo helping newbies get the mentors ring and silver and a butt ton of money seems helpful. Definitely train on rats and mudcrabs!
See, there's a difference between people who came from that time playing on OG xbox, or playing back in the day, and people who came up during the xbox 360 or even xbox one and onward era of gaming, who never even played oblivion or morrowind, let alone knew they existed until after hundreds of hours of skyrim. People who came up on, and got used to skyrim, have a particularly difficult time getting the hang of this game As for skipping enemies, I don't recommend doing that necessarily, I just recommend not jumping into combat first thing off the boat. You should at the very least be getting some combat equipment before you attempt combat. That's why first thing I say is get acquainted with the town and the quests and shops etc. make a little extra gold to buy some half decent starter equipment, and THEN worry about fighting weaker enemies. The main problem is that people think they can just raw dog, even the weakest enemies, with basically no weapon, no armor, and no potions. It's just not a realistic way for a newbie to tackle the game.
@@PTMG oh i dicked around on xbox, my first real time played TES was Oblivion and I never completed it. Skyrim was my first true elder scrolls playthrough. And I agree on going with nothing, which is why in my comment i recommended the armory, followed by enchanted weapons to fill at least 3 of the main weapon types. Then you can eff up ghosts and ish at 1st level!
Morrowind takes Skyrims kind of essence. Changes it's gameplay style to that of something 20 years earlier (with the same graphics). And makes a chance-hig based rpg with a story that whole slow, and read instead of heard - is just as if not much more intriguing than Skyrim. In the end you kill a God-esque deadra and kill the heart of a literal God buried in a mountain (the same heart that made the dwemer disappear which you can see in Skyrim and hear about all the time in Skyrim if you get far enough into the game. Morrowind is fun, but it's slower paced, it takes it's time to let you be regular, instead of starting out like a beast. It's aged really well and is argue that it is an amazing elder scrolls game/rpg game. But for starting to get invested, to pick it up and figure out what to do and become invested, it's a little harder than it should be. It's the games main downfall. To shorten it up: Morrowind is a boulder of fun rolling down hill. It's hard to start to push that heavy boulder at first, but once it's moving, it's moving and it's not stopping.
They are a good pick because 1. it makes your starting speed/jumping a lot higher 2. because it helps you advance player level faster by just walking/jumping around, and can even be used to "farm" levels (like holding the movement key or pressing q and swimming toward a wall etc.) First time playing through it's definitely gonna be nice to walk faster, but also the attribute bonuses, and health bonuses etc you get from leveling up, will help a lot
While that can be true it's not always that bad If it's your first playthrough or even your second playthrough I probably wouldn't worry too much about efficient level progression, I would worry more about equipment progression, and trying to level useful stats as easily/quickly as possible. Especially if you are playing on a medium/low difficulty, efficient levelling wont matter all that much, and chances are, the stuff that is most useful to your build will get close to max points per level anyway. If you are gonna keep anything in mind as far as levelling goes as a beginner, I would say endurance. The sooner you raise that, the more max health you will end up with.
First playthrough: I went to the fightersguild, went to kill some rats, I died, realise I hadn’t saved the whole time so i had to start over from character creation. Great game
it do be like that sometimes
lol 😆
Literally my fist experience with Morrowind except I went mages guild first and got killed by a random strix hound.
I only played skyrim and a little bit of oblivion so I was very VERY confused when there were no quest markers and how it's so hard to get some money😢
I first played this game when i was 7, pretty sure i got the hang of combat, spells etc., but the quests were out of this world for me, as i couldn't differ between west, east, north and south 😂. This game truly rewards basic knowledge 👍
I dunno man you should hear some of the directions the temple give you
This game needs a quest marker pretty badly
Or at least better direction givers
@@PTMG I just started playing, and i didnt know about the traveling things, so i walked to balmora.
@@MaxOrDieYT that's the best way to do it IMO. The fast travel is a convenience better used *after* doing the exploring.
@@PTMGi disagree entirely, part of the charm and joy is having to find stuff. Theres infuriatingly annoying stuff like trying to get Goldbrand, "statue book" but other wise
bro we were very innocent back then lol your comment brought back ALOT of memories
IIRC the biggest problem with a Skyrim player coming to Morrowind is that Skyrim levels enemies to you, but in Morrowind you can very easily run into an area that is WAY above your skill level.
Remember to save your progress and quick save often.
I always forget to save lol
as far as enemies though, the tougher enemies are usually pretty well tucked away.
Oh yeah umbra goes hard af in morrowind
@@JMulvythe seyda neen ruin you just need a basic long blade stat and grab the sparksword from the flying elf whose name eludes me right now. Alternatively, find the fire dagger in the stump near the elf if youre shortblade, or the enchanted shardaxe if youre axe. Or walk up the coast to the shipwreck and get the silver longsword. That dungeon is pretty easy, Im currently on my first playthrough. I had a harder time with the slaver mine by the seyda silt strider since i only had 30hp at start and the mage one shot me
@@sojanarne wow I did not know all of those possibilities existed. I have not explored Morrowind nearly as much as I have Skyrim.
I've played skyrim and oblivion religiously for years, so I figured morrowind would be a walk in the park to figure out. Strangely enough, nope! Makes me feel like I've never played a game in my life!
once you get hang of the nuances, it gets pretty easy
"WHERE IS THE GODDAMN IMPERIAL GUILD"
mood bro
I started my Elder Scrolls tenure with oblivion at release. Then of course hit the midnight release for Skyrim and have put an absurd amount of time and playthroughs on it, but now I’m delving into Morrowind on a serious playthrough for the first time! Thanks for the vid 🤙🏻
didn't get a 360 till much later so I was stuck playing oblivion on super low settings on my pc lol
The music is like therapy
definitely my favorite soundtrack of all the elder scrolls games
Elder scrolls have the best soundtrack in gaming imo. I give that title to skyrim personally but im not mad with people picking other games. Must be elder scrolls tho 😅
I remember trying to play 4 or 5 years ago, and quitting after 15 minutes because I was used to the way other Bethesda games function. Thank you, this is very useful, I am beginning a playthrough tonight!
Good luck!
I always forget about quicksaves lol
Brute force doesn’t necessarily encumber you if you increase your strength with each level gain. Plus strength helps you hit harder and increases your health so it’s a necessity for any build anyway.
After playing Starfield, I became a huge fan of Bethesda Game Studios, so I decided to check out all their games starting with Morrowind, and MAN it's tough going from a very action based game to dice rolling lol. I won't give up though, and this video will surely be useful, thank you very much 🙏
Starfield is definitely closer to the fallout side of things too
Morrowind is my all time favorite though, definitely worth giving a fair chance
Im so happy you started with morrowind, it'll make you appreciate the differences more. For the next game you play id recommend Fallout 4, its much more similar to Strafield and has a bigger emphasis on the settlement building than Starfield does.
Starfield? Im sorry you started there. Tbh. My first bethesda game was fallout 3 I believe. Or oblivion. One of em.
@@xxtapout12xx43 damn let people enjoy games
@@HS.0J what you mean? Lmao. Im not saying it bad per say. But for it to be someones first bethesda game. There are better choices at hand. With deeper lore, story and gameplay in my opinion. I anit shitting on no one lmao but Try morrowind and then try to tell me it worse than starfield with just world building alone. Games just arent what they used to be.
This is a tip for all TES games. Choose the race native to where the game is happening. That's always a great choice for your first time.
Yeah it's definitely the most lore friendly way to play
I still prefer argonians tho just for faster swimming and water breathing
@@PTMGyou can swim a lot faster with boots if blinding speed and water breathing is an easy constant enchant
What about arena that's all provinces
I started my first play through, made long sword my major skill, tried using the dagger, died to the first enemy, didn’t save, lost my character and came straight to this guide
hopefully it helped
Glad to help
Too many people don't give this game a fair chance due to a bad first impression, which is a damn shame cause it's such a good game
Go with a Dark Elf, choose Long Blade and Destruction , any other skills you like but I recommend to choose athletics and acrobatics you can level just moving and jumping around. For your sign choose The Lady and youre golden for your first playthrough
Definitely a good setup
I'd call destruction optional for a beginner if you wanna keep it more simple but long blade dark elf is one of my go to's
2:55 I remember first stepping off the ship and seeing that guard. After talking to me he started walking like he had crapped his pants. Epic memories.
My oldest memories of this game are trying to squeeze in like 20-30 min of morrowind before my grandma picks me up for school lol
The first time I played this game, right after my first playthrough of skyrim, I hated it after dying in 5 minutes. Then I played planescape torment, and after that Morrowind started to flow. Just talk. To everyone. Make a habit of asking relevant questions to everyone, and you'll always find your way.
This, but also don't be afraid to use a guide. People give up before googling and it's so weird honestly.
Skyrim addict here (I have purchased at least 5 separate copies of Skyrim since it's release)
I tried oblivion after Skyrim back in 2013, and young me could not stand the perceived massive downgrade. I have realized what feels like too late that I've basically locked myself out of using actual weaponry, but I managed to down a bull netch without losing any health, so idk if it's actually a problem yet
hand to hand is actually insanely overpowered in morrowind you made a solid choice
@@PTMG it wasn't really a choice, the generated class gave me 35 or 40 hand to hand at the start, and no other weapon skill was above 20.
This vid definitely helped a Skyrim zoomer like myself :)
as janky as it seems, I still feel like morrowind, similarly to a lot of older games (think like half life or counter strike etc) have a more "free" movement style if that makes any sense
Just the way accelerations and jumping mechanics worked, it seems like it gave you overall more mobility as a player character
i feel like movement in newer games is overall more sluggish which I think has to do with intent for a more realistic feel
Like older games it feels like the character is directly attached to your keyboard, newer games it's like the character is attached to the keyboard by strings or something
Bro you are literally me
As someone who is new with this game i thank you for providing this detailed and much needed guided tutorial. 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Been debating on getting either this or Oblivion when I can after getting back into Skyrim again recently so glad to have found this video
get both for sure
Morrowind and Oblivion are for sure the best elder scrolls games
Wonderful! I saw this game on Game Pass and I've just downloaded it. Wanted a small insight before I booted it up and this was the perfect video! Thanks for the tips, my guy.
Glad I could help!
I love this game ! Wood Elf is my preferred along with theft and marksmanship in this game !
Wood elves are fun
lol sometimes I'll edit them in the construction set to make them even smaller so they are like these little tiny ninja elves
That’s hilarious !
One time I was playing Morrowind I was only a level 3 found a Daedric Shrine and the game glitched and the daedra got caught on something a couldn’t break free so I just stood back and used my bow . Got rewarded with some great rewards !
planning on giving morrowind a try tonight thanks for the tips^^
good luck and have fun!
I look forward to getting to experience Morrowind like they did when it came out.
if you can handle arena and daggerfall you can handle any game lmfao
I've been playing redguard and it's actually a pretty cool game
@@PTMG Arena was tedious and the controls were nuts, but I am thoroughly enjoying Daggerfall. It is actually a very impressive game.
I have been thinking of giving Battlespire and Redguard a try. Redguards style reminds me of the old Tomb Raider games.
forgot about battlespire lol
I played a tiny bit of arena and daggerfall, and daggerfall is definitely a little better than arena
I got kicked out of house, wife wanted divorce, first thing I did was rent apartment, buy xbox and Morrowind, was never happeir in my life. True story she showed up acting like you OK, do you want to talk? I was like No I got to impress this great house see ya.
goated
Thank you. Instead of fast travelling straight to the city, I tried to walk there. While walking, I wanted to explore a cave full of bandits. Of course I got one shot by them. I even lowered the difficulty to very easy but I guess I should not have tried to play like that
for me it was always the ancestral tombs that got me got.
Walking is slow, running consumes fatigue. I think it makes sense.
i just bought the package for morrowind and oblivion, thanks for the upload.
nice
best 2 games in the series imo
If you use 3rd person camera you will notice your char has 2 attack animations.
One for quick attacks when you just mash the mouse.
Another animation when you briefly hold the mouse and then release.
When you do quick attacks you deal the low end dmg of the weapon. When you hold attack and then release you do the high dmg of your weapon.
Also, if you're a long blade user you don't need to buy a weapon because just off the starting town following the road you find a body with a good starting magical long blade.
There's also a nice magical axe in a tree stomp in the immediate surrounding area of when you first are free to explore, right next to the lighthouse, just jump from a rock near the lighthouse on top of the dead tree stomp to get the axe.
good point about the sword/axe
was moreso just showing that you should buy whatever weapon you are best with, there are definitely better options all over the place than just buying a weapon
Your video is great for a starting player.
lol yeah this video was made from that same point of astonishment
I kept hearing in facebook groups reddit etc people complaining about the combat system and had to set the record straight lol
i forgot how the 5x multiplier in leveling up worked...learning to play still since 2002
same lol
Just make sure to increase the skill that scales off the stat.
Example: leveling up Long Sword 5-10 times gives you a 5x boost in Strength the next time you decide to sleep to level up because Long Sword scales on how much Strength you have.
Remember, you can level up ANY skill as much as you want AND can decide when you want to level up by sleeping. So you can technically get 5x on all stats the next time you level up(but that takes a long time and is not really worth it so best to get 5x on skills you're specialized in.)
Thanks bro, i just started morrowind and youve really saved my ass.
glad to help
the dagoth ur meme is bringing many of us back, thank you
glad you enjoy
I didnt have access to any games growing up but here i am, very excited to play Morrowind, though I started only yesterday and died like 3 times to the mage in that first cave with the 2 argonians and a khajiit slave 😭 also I loved thenconcept of a Journal, like an actual journal I would write for my RP characters, not having markers makes you actually think about your next steps.
yeah the journal was cool, but it gets hectic after a while once you start doing a lot of quests
definitely needs some optimization as far as being able to organize things goes
Good video. Lots of good advice that will actually help a new player.
Glad you think so!
yup, that does it, im replaying skyrim
I can't even skyrim
Appreciate you making this vid, very interested in the lore of this game just had a hard time adjusting to the gameplay.
Glad I could help!
As a seasoned MorrowBoomer, I used to think I would appreciate the reverse of this video, until I realized that Skyrim has been castrated for the modern audience and lacks depth like a puddle. You cannot fly, cannot create spell, but you can go here collect the thing to return for the other thing to then go back to the same cave to get the next thing ad infinitum.
yeah I always feel kinda "lost" when I play skyrim
I died during the tutorial but didn't have a save to load. So i had to go back to the creation screen 😂😂
Trying to remember how to play before jumping back in time.
yeah efficient levelling
Basically making sure you level up a bunch of minor skills too while you gain major skills
It's the only bethesda game that I don't feel the need to mod into a completely different combat or leveling system lol
yeah morrowind was absolutely huge for an OG xbox game
Thank you so much i am a huge elder scrolls nerd and i love morrowinds lore but couldnt get into it due to the gameplay thank you im also subscribed
Glad I could help!
Etho, what has gotten into you? You have to win. Your carelessness will backfire. Being careful will both get you closer to victory and closer to collecting all the cards.
wut
I'm ballin it as an Argonian Mage.
Argonians are king
Found this video late! But just in time to coincide with buying Morrowind from Steam at a great price. Let’s hope I can get hooked on the older mechanics since I’ve played everything else from Bethesda like Starfield, Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout (3,NV,4)
Good luck, it's definitely one of my all time favorite games, definitely the best Elder Scrolls game imo
I don't mind the idea of low weapon skill lowering hit rate, it makes sense if I'm fighting someone with a weapon they're well versed in and I'm using one I've never held it makes sense that I'd land very few hits. The point where the system falls apart is when I fight a worm, a creature with no arms or legs, and somehow miss 99% of attacks
yeah I agree, at least certain creatures should have like negative agility or something to make them super hittable
Well Dunmer are the superior race.....N'wah!!!! Just bought this for 6 bucks on steam and man I'm loving it now as much as I did back in the day.
Dunmer really are tho lol
My default go to in every game
here from daggerfall, the dungeons were too darkly lit for me to continue playing
it was hard to transition though since there's such a steep learning curve
daggerfall is next level shit
You can carry torches.
You can have magical night vision.
You can have a magical light illuminating your surroundings.
You can increase gamma.
Dungeons are supposed to be dark. Most of them are caves...
Helpful. And wow, this game a whooole lot prettier with mods and further render distance/shaders.
I don't think I have any fancy shaders or anything, just the resolution and render distance from MSGE
I run the game at 2k resolution so things look more detailed even with the normal textures/shaders
When you get in the starting town if you follow the road you will come upon a book in the middle of the road if you walk up to it a mage will fall from the sky and die and you can loot his stuff he has an enchanted sword and mage gear for free without having to fight him
From what I remember he just has normal robes they aren't enchanted
Not sure how good the sword is tho for some reason I don't remember him having one
I like your attitude, even if it makes me feel called out lol, it does make me feel like i can try this game again
It's a great game and definitely worth trying till you get the hang of it
Once you figure out the basics it's smooth sailing and a fun game
also could be worth checking out my best start video I just put out today
Goes more into detail on how to get your character set up all cozy for a decent playthrough as opposed to just explaining the gameplay mechanics
@@PTMG I will check that out! Downloaded it when I got home from work and I'm having fun :)
This made me realize how similar all the bethesda games are
very much the same but still very different somehow
Man thank you for making this video i made the huge mistake of not reading enough dialogue and getting lazy and missed basically everything important lmao too reliant on quest logs and markers i suppose!
glad to help!
Skyrim player here lol
I refuse to even look at the comments and just want to throw out this idea
Neither game is better or worse….everyone is entitled to a personal preference.
Skyrim is barely a rpg game and has really lost the touch of the classic role-play D&D BUT is still amazingly fun due to the gameplay and quests.
great tutorial, got a good laugh out of it too, just gotta get some basic mods sorted out and actually do the effort of pressing the launch game button now
Definitely worth playing if you haven't yet
i think the biggest issue i encountered when playing morrowind was literally just the graphics. the fov in particular made it very difficult to discern the goings-on of the world. other than that i think the main difficulty for modern audiences is how much you have to pay attention to the game, no quest markers and a not-super competent world map mean you really have to engage with the game, which is difficult and alien to players like me used to playing skyrim at the same time as listening a podcast a 2x speed.
definitely helps to have a widescreen/render distance mod
Just got back into Skyrim. I only played oblivion before that. I got Morrowind a few years ago but only played it for an hour or two. Trying to get back into it and have no idea what I'm doing. I'll probably bounce around. I just got every elder scrolls game. Started a guy in daggerfall unity too. For some reason this is the hardest one to start so far. At least for me.
still want to try daggerfall unity
looks really cool
First time playing the game and when I did the Mages Guild quest about planting a fake stone in the enchanter's desktop, when I saw her away from her desktop my first instinct was to literally steal everything there. Now I'm running away with a soul gem that sells for 60k gold and no one can buy it cause darn merchants only ever have like 1.5k in their inventories max.
well you should honestly use it to enchant anyway, because really the only thing there is to do with money is to enchant stuff, or do training
But if you need to sell expensive stuff, use the scamp trader or mudcrab merchant (i have a recent video on my channel on the mudcrab who has 10k gold supply) and you sell a bunch of cheaper stuff to the mudcrab, like dark brotherhood outfits or potions, resting 24 hours to get the 10k back every time
once you sell him 60k worth of stuff, you buy all 60k back at once, so that the mudcrab has 60k gold in his inventory, then you can sell the 60k soul gem.
On the flip side I could use some training!
honestly I just go to enchanters to enchant stuff
it costs money but it never fails
and it's pretty easy to get money in morrowind
you can find a surprising amount of grand soul gems lying around in barrels and crates when you are exploring dungeons.
then you get a golden saint (they have the highest enchantment value) summon spell, so you can summon a golden saint, soul trap it and capture it in a grand soul gem, and these souls can be used to make constant effect enchantments on armor (only the highest level souls/gems can do constant effect enchantments)
but yes they do get spent
Have a blessed day sir PTMG🤗
Always watching and supporting you😊
i got this game for my birthday when i was about 10 or 11 years old. i followed the directions pretty well but when i got to Cosades' house i killed him and stole his skooma because i saw how valuable it was. got the doom screen and proceeded to aimlessly wander balmora looking for shit to steal so i could just buy better loot and repeat the process until i got bored
Gotta do the quests for him now lol
Plok: This is a role playing game
Also Plok: Here’s an immersion breaking exploit for gold making!
immersion breaking exploit?
It's literally just stealing stuff and selling it?
Yeah I suck at this game. I have never played an elder scrolls game and I and definitely unfamiliar with PC gaming in general. I quit playing today because I closed a game window and couldn’t figure out how to bring it back up. I need this content lol
If you stick with it, it's a pretty chill game that's fun to mess around with the mechanics of, and just explore in general, once you get the hang of things
that prison fucking boat - love the narration, subscribed immediately
Glad you enjoyed it!
Honestly that prison boat never gets old for some reason.
Oblivions intro got old after the first time through it (gotta make that sewer save)
Skyrim's intro got old before you even got off the wagon
But for some reason that morrowind intro is just right
@@PTMG right on! Plus it also gave us Jiub, the baddest mf of all
This is insanely helpful thank you
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for the vid, I felt like I was losing my fucking mind when I couldn’t hit the bandit in the cave by the starting area lol
glad to help
I've tried to get into morrowind and even oblvion so many times, but i just get scared. The leveling system is the definition of anxiety man
Just don't think too much about leveling and play on the easiest setting if it's your first time through
As long as you focus your efforts on one combat style, and for melee builds one weapon style, you will do fine throughout the game even without efficient leveling strategies
As you get the hang of things a bit more then it's easier to really plan your builds pretty well, and utilize trainers etc. for efficient leveling, and an efficient character build altogether.
Either way it's pretty easy to eventually get overpowered, you just gotta be careful and kinda figure out what your limits are at lower levels.
Past like level 15-20 though you are early unstoppable. And once you get well beyond level 30+ you are an absolute machine.
Maybe I've just spent too much time in Vvardenfell, but i typically take one of the default classes nowadays.
After a certain point it doesn't really matter anyway
On one of my first attempts at playing the game, I had much of death mountain spoiled for me, so when I found the scrolls of icarian flight, i spent an hour trying to fly there without killing myself from fall damage. I eventually got to Dagoth Ur (somehow) at level 5 or something. Needless to say, i was so far from ever killing him that I gave up on it for, like, 6 months. How can you kill a god anyways?
damn I always stayed away from ghost gate for the longest time cause it was so creepy lol you just went in deep
Honestly my biggest problem is the ui and controls. I have such a hard time figuring out how to do the things I want to do like alchemy, spell casting, or even just finding my way around
controls can be remapped (like e being jump and space being the use key, I definitely swap those)
but I think they are actually the same in oblivion too
The whole ready spell thing is confusing as fuck though I definitely remember being confused about a lot of stuff about this game back in the day
I will always support your channel sir🙌
Plok hits again. Just downloaded this game for the first time.
Nice
Hopefully all goes well lol
@@PTMG I like a challenge vs the ease of Skyrim 😂
So if im to understand correctly, the gist of this game is DONT go out and kill stuff right away? Did I get that right? I just want to make sure that THAT was the gist.
I wouldn't call it the gist of the whole game, but if you are a beginner I definitely don't recommend going out and trying to kill stuff right away
morrowind does not use enemy level scaling as in newer TES games.
so if you start killing stuff right away you will notice that you might stumble into a dungeon that you cannot complete because enemies are too high level for you.
majority of enemies in the game have set level that does not scale to the player.
so you will find yourself doing easy quests to get gold to train your skill at trainers before going clearing dungeons.
Awesome Vid thanks! So I take it the best approach is to go out and fight stuff straight away?
lmfao no but actually yes.
Well if you ever fuck up your character that bad, there is always the soul trap glitch to save you!
I'm convinced there isn't a way to fuck up a character in this game
It's always possible to get extremely overpowered
Think about it, this game is so far ahead of its time. The most popular game of this time was GTA 3 and this game is leaps and bounds ahead leave it to Bethesda to set the bar ! Excited to see how bad ass tes6 is
To be fair GTA 3 had cars and guns lol
@@PTMG so 🤷♂️ lol Fantasy all day TES over Fall Out lol
this shit was funny asf, good video man you had me dyin
lmfao glad to hear it
nice tutorial!!
glad you enjoyed it
"There are better options for races"
Me everytime I play elder scrolls: hehe funny lizard man
It's just too cool to be a lizard
How to enjoy Morrowind
1 open up the constructionset >settings and increase runing multiplier and swimrunmultiplier
2 Go into skills and increase the use value for Athletics
This is what every sane Morrowind player does because, man, that slow movement speed is so terrible.
I kid you not, the slow movement speed was much more of an obstacle in me enjoying Morrowind than the combat was.
but man does movement get pretty good once you get it all maxed out
peak elder scrolls movement is morrowind with max athletics and acrobatics hopping around everywhere
@PTMG yeah, I'm aware of that "broken" quest (in terms of the journal entry). But that was another quest.
There's a class already premade on the game that mix fighter with sneak? I love playing like a ranger. Thanks for the video. It was some nice tips
most likely, there are a few different mixed classes so I wouldn't be surprised
I know spellsword is a pre made one
I still recommend just making it yourself though tbh
Watching until the end with ads sir.. always support..
From PTMG
Bro I remember trying to kill the rats in that house in balmora and raging so hard because I was using a short blade with no armor and kept dying 😭🤣
those rats will fuck you up quick honestly
Good day Sir ❤️ have a blessed morning 🌅❤️🙏🙏
Wrong! Races can drastically effect what level your skills start at. Great video though thanks
just looked and your right
Not sure why it doesn't mention this in game
Dark Elves look the best. I am installing mods to see if they can make other races more attractive.
I think the argonians and khajiits look pretty cool in this game
@@PTMG Life without boots and helmets. Maybe I will try it. I have not played in 10 years but don't they both walk funny?
Ah yeah I forget about that little caveat sometimes
Pro tip: you can still wear non face-covering helmets (think like the imperial helms etc.)
And yeah they have a different walk animation, but most importantly argonians can breathe under water, and swim faster.
Bound weapons are honestly good enough to use for the whole game if you want.
bound dagger is only as good as your short blade skill though
@@PTMG Correct. I said to pick short blade as a major skill if you want to do this. Even without sheath focus it will be at around 30 as major, then boosted to 40 by bound dagger. If you want to pick a different major weapon skill you need to get the bound weapon spell for that skill. Mage's guild in Balmora sells most of them. Personally, I think going for spear as a major skill and using bound spear is the strongest option but any of them can work.
I can't wait to save the world from a demon as a handicapped prisoner with muscular dystrophy. :)
At least you are a god tho
Wtf why are all of you in the comments saying the same thing?
They are trying to win a crypto contest
Still watching sir Plok.
Hoping to be part of your growing team sir.
Thank you 💕
Decided to try out morrowind recently. Yea I pretty much though myself to the the dovahkiin of morrowind. Got absolutely rekt by the 2 fucking rats in the fighters guild quest.
This helped.
Don't worry, after level 20 or so you start to feel like a god
I dunno if anyone is reading since it's an old video, but something curious just happened to me.
My 1st playthrough. Redguard. I leave the first city with a sword and some armor, and then, an old lady tells me some bandits are causing problems in a nearby cave, so i go investigate. There is a mage. I do adrenaline rush and i survive with exactly 25hp. Now, adrenaline rush buffs hp by 25. The buff runs out and i die, but i've saved AFTER i've killed the mage. I hardlocked my game because of it, since i had no healing spell (gave the ring back), no potions either, and had to make another character
What the fuck, game
Yeah that's another reason to hold off on combat for a while there's some weird caveats to this game
My favorite when I first started playing was wandering into an ancestral ruin and encountering a bonewalker
they cast a spell on you that over encumbers you, I think by damaging your strength
The only way to fix it is with a restore strength spell or potion, and you literally can't move at all when over encumbered lol
"Guide for Skyrim players" 💀
lol at this point it might even be ESO players too
oddly enough, l can handle a shit ton of janky as fuck games but couldn't handle morrowind, thanks to your advice l know the basics now and can enjoy it
I wish you the best in your morrowind adventures
It's a great game once you figure it out
Thank you!
glad to help
Not that other signs aren't good, it's just the ones I recommend are ones that help mitigate common problems people have with the game, namely movement speed (steed) and your ability to do damage in melee combat (warrior)
This guide keeps in mind a lot of the main things people complain about when they try this game for the first time.
People who came up on, and got used to skyrim, have a particularly difficult time getting the hang of this game
As for skipping enemies, I don't recommend doing that necessarily, I just recommend not jumping into combat first thing off the boat.
To shorten it up:
Morrowind is a boulder of fun rolling down hill. It's hard to start to push that heavy boulder at first, but once it's moving, it's moving and it's not stopping.
Definitely the best storyline of the series imo
Thanks for this
No problem
Athletics and Acrobatics seems like a waste because you're always using those as you play, shouldn't you pick something else or am I wrong?
They are a good pick because
1. it makes your starting speed/jumping a lot higher
2. because it helps you advance player level faster by just walking/jumping around, and can even be used to "farm" levels (like holding the movement key or pressing q and swimming toward a wall etc.)
First time playing through it's definitely gonna be nice to walk faster, but also the attribute bonuses, and health bonuses etc you get from leveling up, will help a lot
@@PTMG oh okay, I was just under the impression that leveling too fast is bad because you gain less attribute points
While that can be true it's not always that bad
If it's your first playthrough or even your second playthrough I probably wouldn't worry too much about efficient level progression, I would worry more about equipment progression, and trying to level useful stats as easily/quickly as possible.
