As many times as they have re-released Skyrim i’m surprised they have never remastered Oblivion. It’s one of the best games ever made and from a business perspective it’s a for-sure win.

@Gamer Ghost Just incase you misunderstood the previous reply, there is a group of modders that have been completely remaking Oblivion from scratch with the same engine that Skyrim is on. It looks phenomenal, they've been working on it for years. It's in the closing stages, and best of all it is free in the sense they do not charge for it, though you will have to own Skyrim special edition and Oblivion. It will only be available on PC for the foreseeable future. But judging how money hungry and lazy Bethesda is I wouldn't be surprised if when it takes off they license it and bring it to console

@@Racecar2024 I hope so too, quality PCs are very expensive. I wouldn't put it past Bethesda to do some sort of collaboration. The Skyblivion team is literally doing all that hard work for free, from the ground up, redesigning everything, fixing the mechanics, adding cool looking enchantments, making the special weapons/daedric artifacts actually unique. I'm really impressed

My first playthrough when the base game came out, I hadn't played anything like it and didn't realize fast travel was a function. I played through the entire campaign walking everywhere I went. My athletics and acrobatics were 100 before I finished 1/3 of the game lmao. I don't regret it at all. It meant I discovered pretty much everything on my own and eventually knew the map like the back of my hand. Was pretty immersive too.

Yo same, I was like 12 or 13. I remember the first time I slept and I leveled up, I jumped from level 1 to level 20 or so because I had already been playing for 100+ hours. My mind was blown when I saw all the new armor.

The first time I played Oblivion, I got out of the Sewers and was in pure awe. The map marker was telling me to go one way to Weynon Priory, but as I realised I didn't HAVE to, and could go any way I wanted.
The constant feeling of "I wonder what's in here?" When coming across every cave, ruin and building.
Skyrim was amazing, but just didn't hit the same.

They should bring back touch spells that can be used in close quarters combat, even if you already have a melee or ranged weapon equiped, in fact the rune spells in Skyrim are a good example of this they could fuse the two and allow us to manipulate them at will by making a rune spell into a touch spell, want to give someone a micro dose of mana than touch them with magic want to super charge that touch spell and turn it into a rune trap that you can place on a wall, a sealing or the ground than energize that shit.

Never a better time to ask it, but Oblivion Builds would be absolutely amazing. No one else makes them. Or at least no one I could find in months of searching, and no one would be better suited to make them then the Fudgemuppet themselves. I don't know how popular they'd be compared to Skyrim, but I'm sure they'd draw in a bunch of people to Oblivion who otherwise may never play it.
As well, I don't necessarily want build videos just for very powerful Builds. I think the Skyrim route would be great, where you pick stats, gear, race, etc. on roleplay, not functionality.

Definitely recommend the High-Elf Atronach build. You can regain your magicka by creating a telekinesis spell on self, and having the largest magic pool in the game allows for creating custom spells that other builds wouldn't be able to cast.

Building a good Oblivion character is way harder (When I say this, I mean that even the best of players will find it hard as you need to count how much you level each skill between level ups and keep the right track and level them in exact amounts, making efficient playtrough....not so fun...) and he seemed bothered about it and didnt explain correctly why we misplace the major skills....

    • @rapidsqualor5367

There are build videos by Pacific , Mythic Dwellers and others but as ABH ABH said, you have to play the build. You can't just pick your 7 favorite skilz as Majors or you will never get +5 to a Attribute and you will be constantly surprised with level-ups.
If you change a few names the system starts to make sense. Think of those 7 skilz as "Leveling Skills" and the 14 minor skilz as "Working Skills".
Here's my build, Male Breton Apprentice Stealth Strength & Endurance. Armorer, Block, Blunt, Hand to Hand, Heavy Armor, Mysticism, Speechcraft
Choose a Offensive skill; Blade, Conjuration, Marksman or Destruction. Play the game using this minor skill and wear light armor. When both these skills raise 10 times, start wearing heavy armor and repairing things until you level up. Rinse & Repeat. Do NOT use Blunt, Hand to Hand, Mysticism or Speechcraft until after your Endurance reaches 100. Run up Illusion.
The 2nd most important thing is to get +5 to Endurance on every level until it is at 100 so I use Heavy Armor and Armorer to get that. At Lvl 9 they are 75 and 65 with the other majors untouched. While I'm playing, I keep a speed meter. I wear the brotherhood armor and run often so I can raise Light armor and Athletics. When those 2 are raised a combination of 10 levels or better; I start looking at my offensive skill. This will ensure I get a +5 to Speed.
I like Destruction as a offensive skill and because all 3 Willpower skills are minors, I can run it up a bit ( roasting everscamps ). +5 to Willpower. I don't raise Personality so I spam Illusion and Mercantile.

I appreciate the casual nature of the video, so many videos on oblivion are the hardcore retrospectives (which I do love) but they are almost always min maxers who take chunks of time to complain about the leveling and it’s always nice to hear someone just suggest having fun. It's more immersive than Skyrim, everything, the personality of NPCs, what they do, how they interact with you and one another + the world. The game is more colourful, more fun, vibrant, combat for me is also better with the ability to use magic and weapon at the same time. I prefer the whole vibe of it despite having played Skyrim way more. I started Oblivion again recently and am enjoying it way more than Skyrim on PC having completed it on Xbox 360 originally probably about 15 years ago.

Oblivion has a special place in my heart as one of the first RPGs I ever played (Fable being the actual first). Aside from Arena (which I'm still trying to figure out the trick to), I found something fun and enjoyable about every Elder Scrolls game. Skyrim is a game that I can sit down and have fun while playing. Morrowind had my favourite story and guild questlines that can actually clash with each other, which I found really cool and I really appreciated the creativity of making your own spells. I didn't think I'd like Daggerfall but I ended up really enjoying it. My first character was a khajiit rogue that ended up being more of a nightblade. I liked the special advantages/disadvantages and the game-generated backgrounds.

Oblivion blew my small mind when I first played it. I remember going to Gamestop and asking the employee for a good game that allows you to customize my character. That was literally my only want from a game to get me to play it back then. That employee got a big smirk on his face and asked if my mom would be ok with Oblivion. She had bought me GTA: SA so this wasnt a big deal at all. I put that game in and started playing and it literally changed everything I thought a game could be. I didn't know games could be so deep, so huge, so customizable, and so long! It changed the type of gamer I was and still am. These days I will not even look at a game if you can't create your own character, or at the very least 30 hours minimum of play time. I played Oblivion in 2007 and it tool me a whole to beat it with one character, but fallout 3 came out the next year and it blew my mind again. That's the Bethesda I remember and loved, but i have a different love for them these days. Skyrim and Fallout 4 are my favorite games of all time, and I appreciate Bethesda for providing the base for decades of modding that I partake in all the time. Bethesda has given me the best games I've ever played and will always hold a special place in my heart because of it 💯💯💯

Was 16 when the game released. Finished it at 18, full completion. Childhood game, will always come back to it, every couple of years, even if I don't have time now to put 700 plus hours like that playthrough. Don't think any game captivated me into it's world as much as this one.

I would love for yall to do some Oblivion builds! I love this game, but often don't stick with characters into the higher levels because of the leveling system. I don't have fun micromanaging my level ups so any over powered builds that would remain viable without efficient leveling would be a godsend.

The most op thing in the early game you can do in Oblivion is to create custom spell with drain 100 life for 1sec on Target. Cost of the spell is ridiculously low. In the early game most of the targets have under 100 life and the 1 sec drain just instantly kills them. So you basically nonstop cast your homemade "avada kedavra" spell killing anything on single hit :D. Loved this as a teen. Btw the Dark Brotherhood storyline in this game is imho the best guild story ever released in the TES and yet not surpassed by anything. It was totally iconic. DB in Skyrim was just a former shadow of the DB in Oblivion.

Dunno if it was mentioned, but apparently on console, there’s a thing known as the A-bomb glitch. There’s a counter that records frames, and once it hits a certain number of frames, it screws your game up really badly and basically garbages that save file. You never know when it’s coming, but I’ve read people say they only get anywhere from 200-500 hours out of a save file.

Or just go in and close all the Oblivion gates and you'll get multiple of every type of sigil stone. You don't even have to fight enemies, just run past them all and get to the stone. And you'll occasionally get super valuable loot from the pods.

One thing you got slightly wrong and one thing you forgot.
Stamina: When reaches zero has a chance to go negative, when that happens. You faint, you can use magic or enchanted weapon to drain/absorb enemies stamina doing the same to them.
Higher level npc: it is far worse then just large hp, it's their abilities that will piss you off. I fought enemies that either made my drop my weapon or kept hitting me, making me fly backwards

The problem I had with Oblivion was the timer on the main quest. In Skyrim, if you don't go to Bleak Falls Barrows and get the dragon stone, you never have to deal with dragons if you don't want to. But Oblivion, in 30 game hours (or is it days?), random portals pop up and force you to deal with the Oblivion crisis, usually before you are ready for it. Want to learn the combat system? Want to join the Arcane University? Want to join the Dark Brotherhood or Thieves' guild? You had better do it fast, because that clock is ticking. And when the countdown begins, you have to deal with it or pretend to be a sociopath. I only got halfway through the Mage Guild quest line before the main quest started interfering with my playthrough.

As a seasoned player im really glad this guide gives a fair take on the game's leveling system and not mentioning the use of any mods. For all new players mod-wise i will only recommend the Unofficial Patches since any gameplay mod greatly changes the overall experience and can leave the wrong impressions. As for the game itself, like the man said, common sense, the game gives you more than enough tools to make the character you want without min/maxing, simply play the game and it will all click.
