Life as a concept artist on AAA games like The Burning Crusade.
I wanted to share a large chunk of concept art that I did from the World of Warcraft Burning Crusade years. This would have been 2006 for me, and it was my second released game as a Senior concept artist. Working at Blizzard was always a dream for me, so it was a tremendous opportunity, and a tremendous time in my life, where I was able to work on some of my favorite games. Most of this artwork is pretty bad, but you can see how concept art has changed over the past 12 years..

You're a monster, Trent. Every artist hates their old work, but this stuff is still so interesting to look at and inspiring. You definitely left a mark, bro. Thanks for sharing.

Trent, I just want to let you know how awesome you are. I recently just got knee surgery to fix my acl and meniscus and I have been in a lot of pain. I love watching your videos and they have helped me stay positive through this time. Today is the fifth day and I just now feel good enough to start drawing again and your videos give me so much insiration to draw and keep learning through this time. Your videos have taught me so much about concept art and helped me make my decision in working towards becoming a concept artist. Im only in highschool right now but I know there is nothing else I rather be working towards and I just want to let you know how much your amazing art and attitude gave affected me and helped me. Keep up all the amazing vids!! You're the best!!!

It wont be easy, but with enough determination, and passion, you can accomplish anything you put your mind to. I wish you a swift recovery, and please send me an email when you get your first concept art job!

As a current WoW player, most of those icone have in fact not been replaced. I push "Cold Hearted" several times a day when I want to go ham. Really amazing to look over these, especially with Black Temple re-opening soon with Timewalking.

Insane to think that you had such a deep impact in TBC. I started playing during TBC and man, to this day I still stay in outland just to enjoy the music and the zones. I think you hit the spot back then and helped create a master piece that to this day people have nostalgia about. Never again in my 30 years of life have I seen a game or zones that capture me so greatly. I greatly appreciate all your work you did and I managed to remember myself, that I had some pictures saved on my old computer that you created.
I hope that one day I will a game will capture me again like TBC did back in the day. :) Thank you for this masterpiece!

Trent... I had no idea you were behind all that! You're artwork is legit the inspiration that kept me painting, and what I have been striving to do as an artist! I started playing WOW right after burning crusade came out, and the imagery and world kept me enthralled for days at a time! You're awesome! Thank you!

I just wanted to let you know, that I'm crying right now. You are what made me love this game, since I saw it the first time. And you are what made me love art and especially concept art. You are a concept artist, who worked at Blizzard. You are what I want to be someday: A concept artist. Since I'm 12 years old, I wanted to work as a concept artist JUST because of WoW and it's concept art. I have every WoW artbook, I try to teach myself digital art every day so I can do what I love one day. Dude. My english isn't that good, so I can't put in words, what I wanna say. I just hope it became clear how important you are and how you shaped my (and probably others) life. Thank you.

I used to run the credits on my WoW login screen when I was younger, just to see your art and listen to the music. I remember seeing your signature splashed on the corner of some of the art in the slideshow and thinking that you were amazing! Thanks so much for the inspiration. Your art still motivates me to pick up a pencil or pen to this day!

This was awesome to see, especially as someone who joined in around burning crusade/wrath of the lich king.
This was both inspiring and discouraging at the same time. Your works are incredible and I know that I'm only 16 right now and still have a lot more years to improve, but at the same time, for someone who is looking into going into this kind of field (concept art for game companies), it's crazy to see the amount of detail you need to put into these and within a specific time frame.
The main thing I want to know (if you choose to reply or not), is what kind of advice would you give to young, aspiring artists? I've watched almost all your videos and you talk about a lot of stuff that definitely does help and encourage me, same with your tutorials on gumroad. Although, even the stuff you did when you were younger (the video where you showed your old art), was years beyond what I can do right now. So obviously, you have talent, and I know a lot of my own friends have talent. I also know that there will always be someone better than you. I KNOW that I've improved, youtube definitely helps keep track of skill level and improvement, as well as commitment, which is great.
So the other thing I want to know is, does sheer effort compare to those with natural talent?
I realize these are pretty big questions, so you may not reply, but hopefully you read it.
Thanks for inspiring me so far though! :D

    Hey Trent,
Great video as always, iv'e seen older paintings in the game and i often question if they are from you! Anyways, i was wondering if you had any advice on nailing a specific format with art videos? I made my first video this week, and it's this art podcast type thing, but i think i want to change it because it sort of drags on. How did you find a comfortable format?
