Staring at the ruins of a demolished town
Or am I lost beyond the sun, soaring the skies?
When did that miserable creature die, I would not know
Claws on his back he rests for a while
With his face in the sand the moment disappears
    His gaze wandering too far
When not even the eagles fly above clouds
    Iron is powerless against time
All will have to lower their weapons
    Forgetting every unnecessity
This too will end up in the swamp
The dreams of conquerors are only ashes of a burnt down city
The emptiness beyond the sun shall be the land
    Of the departed ones
Claws on his back he rests for a while
With his face in the sand the moment disappears
With slow steps, from too far away
Many are in search of treasures for themselves
    Iron is powerless against time
All will have to suffer in their flesh
The tired ones would wait in vain
Who is ready to give up their journey?
On this path no one walks toward us
    In the end, time rewards
    The time which mankind suffers
    Death pales everyone's faces
Leaving corpses for the ravens claws
From the sword you will swallow the blood which you let run
Into the swamp you too will return
On the branches of trees, on the slopes of mountains
    Those shapes silently await
Just waiting for you to drop on your knees
And bury your face in the sand
When you're no longer moving, you will know...

After the previous Moonsorrow pick was vetoed for being too long, we (XU and EU) were determined to make sure Moonsorrow did eventually get a reaction. This band is massively important. The 4 bands that made it to the end of this essential bands poll all deserve a reaction. as much as I love Moonsorrow I did not vote for them on this poll, simply because the band they were up against is so incredibly important. But alas, that band did not win. It was a very close vote. Hopefully some day...

Good job pronouncing _haaska_ /ˈhɑːskɑ/ (audio at fi.forvo.com/search/haaska/ ), *Vin!* 👍 Both /ɑ/ vowels can be extended to /ɑː/ like you did, without confusing the listener when singing/screaming/growling, but if you do write or say _haaskaa_ /ˈhɑːskɑː/ in other context, you are then using the *partitive case* which denotes "partialness", "without result", or "without specific identity". It is also used in contexts where a subgroup is selected from a larger group, or with numbers. More at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partitive_case

@@haurg7418 That's why they don't really consider themselves either black or folk metal.
They describe it as Epic Heathen Metal, and it works.
I call them Prog Rock though...
To be honest, everytime I listened to a new album of theirs, I was disappointed because it was a bit too far from the previous record (whatever order you're listening for the first time, it applies). It took me a purposeful listen without the expectation of it sounding like the other to dig it.
Now about Meshuggah... Well they're great, I love them.
That said I'd need to actively listen to each album to be able to tell you. For the time being, I've enjoyed every song of theirs I've heard.
But I don't come back to them as often or consistently than Moonsorrow, especially going through full albums actively listening on my own.
I do it with the first two Ensiferum and the first Wintersun too
      .
Back to Meshuggah, their two live albums are amazing, these guys are incredible. It's the two "albums" I've listen to the most at this point.
Now that I think about it, it's the kind of band I'd rather see live (which I did and it was awesome) than to listen to the record, as good as it it ultimately.

Yeah... Also, the 3rd verse starts and ends with lines using 3rd person singular (literal translation):

      [...]
_suohon päätyy vielä tämäkin_ ("into a swamp will he too end up")†
†) The word *_tämä_* is literally the pronoun "this" but when one needs to refer back to a 3rd person singular used earlier in the same or an earlier sentence, one can use _tämä_ instead of _hän_ ("he/she"), unless the whole point is repetition: _Hän eli. Hän joi. Hän kuoli._ ("He lived. He drank. He died.")
Also, _tämä_ helps to distinguish between different persons: _Hän vetosi kuninkaaseen, mutta _*_tämä_*_ ei muuttanut mieltään._ ("He pleaded to the king, but *they* did not change their mind.")
