These guys are basically the GOAT pagan/folk metal band. Henri Sorvali is a genius. Great picks!
PS. "Fiesta Pagana" translates to "Pagan Party", but the comparison is still a good one.

I was at the Heathen Crusade Metalfest when they played. It was in Minnesota in Jan 2006, their first US appearance, along with Primordial and Thyrfing.

"Voimasta ja kunniasta" = of power and glory. I like kylän päässä (at the end of the village), I wish they had more songs like it.

This was the instrument you were wondering about The Jew's harp, also known as jaw harp. :)

  • @gredulous2444

There is proverb "Rakkaalla lapsella monta nimeä" it means "The preciouss child has many names". That folk instrument in the song 'Kylän Päässä' is Munni Harppu AKA jaw harp AKA vargan AKA mouth harp AKA gewgaw AKA khomus ect ect. It's basically a flexible piece of iron...like spring.

I get a kick out of how you use the term "death metal" to describe any form of extreme metal.
I love Moonsorrow, and they're best described as pagan metal or perhaps blackened folk metal, not really death metal at all (which I also love!)

i have always liked Moonsorrow for their epic death black metal and yeh, it's not for everyone but I do love their music that does require you to really listen for its own unique sound which is very very Finnish ( a big plus)

You'd probably go bananas. One time I saw them, a decade ago, in Slovenia. They were the closing act of a week-long metal festival, situated in the beautiful mountain scenery of Tolmin. The stage was set in very fitting surroundings amongst old oak trees by the river. As the darkness fell on that warm summer evening, Moonsorrow whipped me into a kind of hypnotic frenzy that resulted in me shredding my perfectly good Sotajumala T-shirt right off my body with my bare hands, throwing it away and diving headfirst into the moshpit when they started "Kylän Päässä". Them singing in my native tongue makes it easy for me to appreciate the beatiful and folklore-ridden lyrics, and at that moment they went through my ears directly into my soul.

Music is pretty awesome, but i can't listen this vocal. It's only my opinion. I like growling from Fabio Lione, coz he make this in another way (not so hard and demonic as most bands with this style of sing).

    • @xSETUMx

@@epicans6065 you know what. I understand what you wanna say and what do you call growling (black metal bands such as Behemoth), but you know what? If Fabio doing this lighter and using voice higher than it must be in a classical growling way, this does mean nothing, simply coz of Rhapsody style and fantasy theme. Can you imagine the ballad like The Mystic Prophecy of the Demonknight with classic powerful growling from hell? Then it be a nightmare, but not a fantasy.
