Ville Sorvali (bassist/main vocals) has a very unique voice in his screams/growls, and he has so much pain and emotion in those. Also very versatile changing it up when necessary, as you'll learn as you listen to this with translated lyrics; when singing about horror creeping in, Ville uses a high pitch scream as in being scared. Love the versatility, and you gotta love the "Moonsorrow screams" here and there.
The band started as a project by cousins Ville and Henri Sorvali, and they call themselves a pagan metal band. Around 2000 they recruited more members and started playing live. Henri is the main composer (also in Finntroll), and in the beginning he played guitar on live shows as well. Henri is a World Of Warcraft fan, and he is working as a music producer at Rovio (company that made Angry Birds).
The band has said that this album Verisäkeet (Blood verses) was pivotal in their history, as the band found their "thing" and what Moonsorrow is all about. It defined the sound of their future albums.

MOONSORROW are one of my fave bands and good friends. You should listen to some songs off their most recent album, Jumalten Aika. May I also recommend another band from Finland, HAVUKRUUNU. Their most recent album, Uinuos syömein sota, is amazing.

So glad you enjoyed this and honestly i couldnt have asked for a better reaction. Its definitely the type of music you want to know the ins and outs of. I remember when i first listened to Moonsorrow and every listen you pick up more and more that you didnt hear previously because theres so much going on. As you mentioned the transistions are seamless. The emotion in the singers voice is unlike any other. The journey they take you on, you two just get it. Btw Pimea means "dark" in english. The whole album just flows from one song to the next and its easily my fav album of all time. Thanks for pronouncing my name perfect too. Again .. thanks for the awesome reaction Kyle and Alanna 🤘😊🤘

Ah, so you're the other Moonsorrow requester! Thanks for showing these two such great music! I don't know if you were planning on making more requests of them, but I wanted to let you know that starting in November, I'll be asking Kyle and Alanna to review the whole Kivenkantaja album! I wanted to tell you so that if you request more we don't accidentally double up! Peace, man! 🤘😎

@michaelclements5793 same bro, if it wasn't for you I wouldn't have got on board not knowing if it's what they'd like. I'll be sure to leave songs from Kivenkantaja off my requests. Thanks for the heads up! Look forward to seeing them react to that album. Love it like every album they've made. 🤘

Thank you both for doing the work of Nature's Gods! This band deserves more attention, and it's great to see fellow fans here. I have to say I'm actually a bit surprised that neither of you went for Huuto, seeing it is the "easy" and catchy song that many people start with. A pleasant surprise

    • @michaelclements5793
      @michaelclements5793 9 місяців тому +2

Huuto is another great song, but I don't think it's any more accessible than any of the ones the Cronic duo has already heard. That's just my opinion though.
They started with Kylän Päässä, which worked out pretty well. I think of that as more introductory since it's a bit shorter (for Moonsorrow) and has three distinct, easily-identifiable sections to it, making it easier to digest (again, imho).

@jannepeuraniemi5053 I will most likely request that at some stage when i do that album, along with Muianaset (I'm just going off the top of my head, I know I've spelt it wrong) and the last song (the land of the dead). I wanted to see their reaction to my fav song of all time in Pimea first tho :)

Man, my favourite reactions are now when you listen to Moonsorrow! :D If you want to experience a bit different Moonsorrow song, try Matkan Lopussa (on Kivenkantaja -album). Also when you listen to Tyven, Sankarihauta and Kylän Päässä (on Voimasta ja Kunniasta -album) in that order is a great experience ;)

Surprise! (to me) Someone else is requesting Moonsorrow! I actually debated with myself whether to request this song instead of Jotunheim, so this is bloody fantastic! So atmospheric, captivating, engrossing. Absolutely one of my favorite bands
Actually, this song is 3rd in the album, and Jotunheim is 4th. There are only 5 songs in this album and they are all long, but Jotunheim is the longest.
You've already heard almost half of the Verisäkeet ("Blood Verses") album by length, so you might want to finish it out. Here's the track list if you're interested:
    1. Karhunkynsi ("Bearclaw")
    2. Haaska ("Carrion")
    3. Pimeä ("Dark")
    4. Jotunheim ("Home of the Jotuns")
    5. Kaiku ("Echo")

I thought I had the track listing wrong .. should have looked it up first! I have them reacting to Haaska next 🤘

@@RemyBonnici Verisäkeet is the best album for me, as a whole. And I also like the newest Jumalten Aika a lot. But all the albums are great. I feel so lucky that I was able to attend to their Verisäkeet 15th anniversary tour in Finland back in 2020, just before the lockdowns came. Top 5 shows I've ever witnessed!

@jannepeuraniemi5053 I got to see them when they came to my city in Australia ... was able to be front and centre for it .. they knew I knew their songs back to front cos they all took turns to play within reach of me. I'll never forget it.

”Pimeä” means ”Dark”. The song is just about darkness. There’s no grand story to it. Ville wrote lyrics for this album by what the compositions made him feel like. Also I say this as a Finn, but I find it bit weird seeing someone happy smiling to Moonsorrow, but I get it because not all understand Finnish

Im 61 and love heavy metal , but this is just a noise , one note only no skill needed by a guitarist . Wont be listening to this again

Dude that's just disrespectful. Not every style of metal suits everyone. And that's okay; there's more for you to like in other bands. But your comment reeks of ignorance, closed-mindedness, and spite, and that's just unwelcome here.

Its amazing at 61 you can still make such childish comments.
