Mr. & Mrs. Rock Hudson - A Marriage Made in Hollywood

  • Опубліковано 17 сер 2012
  • Compilation of clips featuring the married Rock Hudson and his former wife Phyllis Gates. So many doubted it was a true marriage and only arranged to protect the movie star but it definitely looks a lot like the real deal. Hopefully it was true love for both parties that sadly in the end, did not last for whatever reasons.

Uh...how real did she think it was with those photographers all over the house taking pictures of these so-called "romantic moments"? They are in your house, on your honeymoon, at events....everywhere. She knew the pictures were staged. So why wouldn't she believe the marriage was, too? It probably could have worked if they had been straight (pun intended) with her about what was really going on. Do you know how many women would have happily married him - gay or not - just so they could be Mrs. Rock Hudson? There are plenty right now married to big stars and KNOW those dudes prefer dudes. I understand that Rock was such a nice Person to be around, and going by some home movies on UA-cam from the 1950's, he looked like the kind of person who didn't put on, and wasn't full of himself.

She passed at 80 years old. Just an update for those who want to know. Her last interview was with Larry King and she was 79. It is on UA-cam. She died of lung cancer which in her interview she had said that she had surgery for & was in remission. There was a half page obit about her when she passed. Some people, especially the gay community said she knew he was gay, & they said she was also gay. In her interview she said very hurtful things were said about her. She earlier had allegedly said he had hit her & would disappear when working, or just leave the house, & that men were calling on the phone, but he would say they were fans. She did not bring up the hitting in her interview but did the leaving her alone. She never remarried. She referred to him as bisexual & it was rumored that he & Liz Taylor slept together on Giant, & that Michael Wilding, found out about it who was her then husband. I know that even back then many fans were aware of him being gay.

I watched that interview on YT last year. She came across as a very genuine and compassionate woman. I thought Rock was quite cruel towards her at the end of their relationship. He lied to her a lot even when the evidence was there for her to see what was really going on (the affairs with males, etc). Then, although there was no drama or animosity between them, he just suddenly and cruelly cut her out of his life and never contacted her again. So not only did he use her for a sham marriage, he didn't even possess the decency to bring closure to the relationship in a civil and fair manner. He seemed to have this profound selfish streak as he then went on to treat his lover, Mark Christian, in an ever more serious abusive manner when, after he had been diagnosed with AIDS, he chose to continue sleeping with Cristian and endangering his life instead of acting responsibly and humanely. I liked Rock Hudson, but I believe his personal demons ran much deeper than has ever been acknowledged.

Sorry to burst the Hudson marriage - bubble, but Rock Hudson married Phyllis suddenly, because he was about to be outed and his agent INSISTED ON IT! ROCK hated the whole thing, and he used to beat her, oft times. She had been his secretary. She was clueless about his other life, until close to the end.. She didn't want to be hit any longer, and filed for divorce. They slept together infrequently, since he could always use work as an excuse.. She throughly enjoyed the perks and status of being Mrs. Rock Hudson, so in the end, you could call it a marriage of convenience, for BOTH.

There are many open minded women that have no problem with it. They know how good a mans parts can feel and understand if he likes it too. She could have known all about it and not minded a bit.. He could love both the lifestyle with the men and his wife.. many married men do it on the downlo... but many do it in full transparency and their wives are well knowing.. or involved at the same time.. or they know they cannot satisfy that need and have no problem with others doing what she cannot do. Many put in public display a traditional marriage that was way different than the private reality. I can see it either way. Is she in videos of his private parties? She might have been there and knew full well of everyone there having what ever relationships they were having and she might have no problem with it because he shared the truth about him self and she was accepting of it. I know married couples who have an open end for reasons just like this. It happens now, it happened back then even more so as the public culture was not as accepting of gay lifestyle and many kept their gay life private for safety and not being accepted reasons. Twenty years later in the 70's people were still being tied to trees and torchured to death and dragged behind vehicles to death and things like that due to sexuality based hate and hate crimes on gay men. Now, over thirty years later, gay lifestyle is way more acceptable; and some stay closeted; but many are open about LGBT lifestyle. Look at the casual hookup ads on craigslist and backpage and see it is alive and well..ads specify what they are looking for and everyone is involved (wife and hubby and extra persons)

He might have been a gay man but he wasn’t acting with Doris even right up until the end, you’ve got to be blind not to see the affection between them. And personally I think he ex wife was a little cruel they way she described him on Larry King.

This is what happens when you live in a society that worships heterosexuality. People get involved in sham marriages and it is usually the wife that suffers for living this lie. I have heard this story many times from pastors' wives who find out that their pastor/husband is gay and that she was only being used for a front.

Here's my take on Rock and his only wife
(I've watched the interview Larry King did with her a couple of times; I'm also gay):
On the Kinsey scale of human sexuality, I believe that Rock's primary sexual orientation moved up and down the scale over the entire course of his life. I believe that he was bisexual when he met and married his wife. She stated in the interview that they had a good sex life, and she came across as truthful. If I may be bluntly honest, a man has to be sexually aroused by the woman to engage in sexual intercourse, something I could never do because I've always been firmly and totally homosexual on the Kinsey scale.
But, during the marriage he wasn't sexually satisfied, and was also having sex with men, in secret. After two or three years, he grew bored and restless with the marriage. After the divorce, he settled into a completely homosexual orientation, he moved on the scale into completely homosexual.
Again, to me, she came across as believable in the interview with Larry King. I don't believe that she suspected that he might be gay until her psychotherapist pointed it out to her.
As for rumors that she was a lesbian, I think she moved around the Kinsey scale too.

Phyllis Gates was a know lesbian but she enjoyed some meat in her life occasionally. She lied like crazy on the Larry King show to promote her book. She got alinomy on the sly with the threats of exposing him way back just after the divorce. He paid her for a few years and Rocks secretary said one of the happiest days was when he no longer had to cut another check to Phyllis. Money the root evil. Even though she did appear to be believable on the Larry King show, she's obviously a great actress.

Bisexual no creo.
