My Mom's "heartthrob"....in 1960, when Rock was flying into Houston to promote the opening of "Pillow Talk", my Mom spent most of the day 'beautifying' herself and we lived near the airport, so we drove over to see him come in. We got to the gate and here came the plane up to the portable stairs....after a little wait, there appeared in the doorway, Rock Hudson, wearing a powder blue suit and sporting a dark tan.....more handsome than you could describe....when my Mom was on her death bed, I reminded her of that moment and she looked up at me and said, "boy, Rock did not disappoint!"
These handsome and beautiful stars don't exist anymore because the studios used to find and develop the most gorgeous people. Now its just whomever blows their way in
He did not have a loving family and children. And the one he loved sullied his name with lawsuits and interviews with the yellow press. In which, without any hesitation, he laid out all the intimate details of their lives.
Everything that I've read and heard of Rock was that he was a very gracious, very personable gentleman. I really wish he had lived to see 70, or to just be himself. I just hope that, over time, he's rediscovered for the great movie star he was. He may have not been a thespian, but he had such charisma.
I'm a African-American female fan of his forever! We grew up watching him in our household. I think all of the women at home loved this man. We watched damn there all of his movies. He was drop-dead gorgeous and had a very sexy deep voice. I see why he was often called "The Gentle Giant".
I'm a 44 year old black woman and I only heard about him very vaguely remember when he passed. I started watching old Hollywood stories and he came up and I only really paid attention to the younger pics of him and he was very striking. And he's very handsome here as well. I recently saw a rerun of I love Lucy with him in it. He was so handsome.
Handsome Man. Everyone in the world loved him. It's absolutely shocking when he appeared sick and admitted to something that my parents generation couldn't accept. So Sorry Mr. Hudson. You're diffinatly not alone in figuring out what, or who you are in this dark world 🌎
He is sooo charming, like when he talks about being around 50 and seeing himself on tv all made up to look about 50 - and then knowing what he was gonna look like when he was 70. His smile and laugh was so irresistable that I bet anyone any age could watch that nowadays and be charmed despite themselves.
He was such a lovely man. I love ALL his films. He is terribly missed as are so many greats. Someday, I'll hang out with them all! He was such a good guy.
From what I know regarding his voice is when he had a very bad cold, sore throat etc., he went out to the mountains and yelled as high as he could to make his voice deep and it sure did work his voice was beautiful
It is a fact that ROCK HUDSON was the Hollywood of his generation, the hero of Hollywood and no one can take that away from him. You are now in the best place, Roy Scherer, your beloved mother's beloved son.
My Grandparents Loved Rock Hudson. He was a Gentleman and Nice to Everybody. The World Was Shocked When He Was Dieing. They Couldn't Believe His Appearance. I CRY FOR YOU MR. ROCK HUDSON. I'LL CRY A THOUSAND TEARS FOR YOU 🌈🙏✝️💋R.I.P. TONIGHT Rock Hudson 🌈🙏✝️✝️💋
From the beginning I saw his frustration..”do you want me put the glass down? I’ll put the glass down” slams the cup down and “arms folded” he didn’t like that! 🤭 0:29
I grew up in the 70’s with McMillin and wife…I could tell he was kind through his character. I knew he was famous but didn’t see any of his movies until cable came along . It was so sad to see him when he passed…a tragedy. RIP Rock, you are one of a kind!❤️🙏
No matter what we do and what choices we make in this life there will always be people who judge us. It is what it is and Rock was a truly handsome man with that height and voice, you don't see many good looking men like that. Too bad he had to live his life to please others. RIP.
A movie should be made about him…It’s ashame of what him to him. His death drew so much controversy…All because of the illness that he had succumbed too. R.I.P Rock Hudson
My mother ran into (literally) Rock walking into Rexall Drug (I’m dating myself here) store on Beverly and La Cienega and she told me he was the most beautiful man she had ever seen and wonderfully nice. I love Rock Hudson what a tragic loss who left an incredible body of work for the world to see hopefully for generations to come. ❤❤ rip
"Rock, just to start off, before you, well uhm...would you put the glass down?" "D´you love me to put the glass down?" *puts the glass down* "That´s very good. Well done."
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and expressing empathy towards Mr. Hudson. It can indeed be challenging for individuals to navigate their identity in a world that may not always be accepting or understanding. It's important to remember that everyone deserves love, support, and respect as they embrace who they truly are. Let us strive for a more inclusive and compassionate society where diversity is celebrated.
Wasn't he wonderful? Hollywood can't be the same with all the greats gone :( It's also a shame they don't care more about preserving their old homes :( so many have been torn down or rehabbed into nothing like they once were. California should have been more strict on preserving our actors homes. They were every bit American treasures as those who had them built or bought them. Thank God there are at least some film and photographs of them. But we have lost sooooo many and could never afford to replace today. :(
I was living in LA with my parents in the late 70s, as a teenager, having moved there from the UK not long before.. One day the phone rang and my father picked it up and spoke some time. He then called me and said that someone wanted to speak to me. I said hello? And the voice on the other end said "it's Rock". He asked me if I liked school and did I like living in LA?. Other than that, I really don't remember much else. But I do remember how nice he was. Why he called, I don't know and I cannot ask my father about it, because he has passed.
Funny those comments about acting `old`. Sadly, so true. Arthritis..makes it hard to sit down, get up (occasionally) Amazing how much we have in common..Never thought about it until Hudson points it out (via the `age` belt that Stevens gave him to wear)
He was the 1st to reveal to the world that he had AIDS. Elizabeth Taylor was the 1st person to step up to the plate & began the 1st AIDS Foundation which took a lot of GUTS back then!!!! ❤😂✌️💥
I thought Rock Hudson was a very thoughtful person I cannot believe how people treated him after his death he did not deserve that he's a lot like Sam Elliott I only wish I could have met him may he rest in peace
…of course I knew of the name: Rock Hudson. Being born in the late sixties however, I wasn’t brought up with his films as say someone who’s got ten or more years on me. I’m also not a huge movie guy with the exception of the usual big films. I found a channel within Comcast’s programming called ScreenPix. Of the categorized channels there’s Westerns. A few weeks back I flipped it on and the film in progress showed some carpetbagger trying to snooker one Col. James Langdon into selling his property to him. After (literally) flipping the guy into his buggy and after telling him off, I sat there thinking…”who the hell is that guy?” Turns out it was the Rock and I watched the rest of the movie. Immediately I was hooked. He and Duke in the same film. What’s not to like? He played Langdon expertly I thought. In all my years I’ve not ever heard of this film. Now, it’s my favorite!
I can understand you not being all that familiar with his films back in the 70`s and into the 1980`s especially since by that time he wasn`t really doing any big movies anymore. He was mainly doing television movies, tv miniseries and of course his popular tv show `McMillan and Wife" which aired during the majority of the 1970`s... He was such a talented actor and I`m not surprised he was one of the few major Hollywood stars that also found success on television .

Excellent stories from Rock.
Great voice, they say it was high pitched and nasally before he got to Hollywood, but I can’t imagine that.
He was probably never as "masculine" as they made him appear to be !
