- For any performance car, modifications become common for a reason, right? As it turns out, that's not always the case with 2018+ Mustang GT! In this video, we test nearly every common bolt-on modification for 2018+ Mustang GT, and share the raw numbers from each. Spoiler alert: one of the most common does absolutely nothing at all. Which modifications are worth the money and effort? Give this a watch to find out!

Why can't every video be this well done!??
Agreed
Not everyone got true love for cars
Headers, Flex Tune and a drop in filter...solid mid 11s daily with no driveability issues.
Really appreciate the dyno tests and not just "oh this adds xx horsepower." Good stuff. I sub'd
Thanks! We're glad you enjoyed it. We love making videos with a little extra detail.
@@NationalSpeedInc you should've tested with the hood closed. Seriously next time you have something with an open air element, test it both hood open and hood closed and you'll see a wild difference. Gale banks will happily explain why. And that's why I can never take most an CAI video I see online Seriously.
Also would like to add that the stock resonator is also a crossover of sorts so it adds some mild scavenging like an X or H
This was a great video, seriously impressive quality and detail.
Really well done testing and video.
I luv these back to back dyno tests. Great job!
Very well done. Thanks I just subscribed
Top video with useful information. It good to see someone talking real numbers
Great video. To the point with no BS.
Really good video, no BS, no unnecessary blabbering. Thank you!
Here for the NIИ and great content.
That open header surprise though!
Not even looking for numbers but this vid the best ever made in UA-cam 👍🏽
Great content, thanks !
well put together video 💯💯
This was a really good video and so informative. I’m starting to build my mustang on my channel so it’s great to get idea before diving in
Probably the most informative video for knowing what to buy for the 5.0
Awesome video thank you!!!
Well done video 👏🏾👏🏾
What a great video! Thank you. Deserves wayyy more views for I’ve seen a lot of bad videos on this topic
Glad it was helpful!
Great video
Gentlemen!! Very impressive, no hype just facts and good data!!!
Thanks Charles!
Wow so much I formation your guys killed it
Great Video Guys. I have a 4.6 Bullitt and found similar items with similer but less (of coarse) results.
Pretty cool insight on the Coyote, it's nice to see a quality video on quality parts 👌
Thanks! 👍
You guys are awesome! shout out to John!!!!
Great video I never even heard of you guys before this but now after seeing put together content like this I'm definitely subscribing and I can't believe a thermostat did more then a ported intake mind blown after that 🤯
I enjoyed this showcase. Detailed as hell :) Do you guys ship parts to Europe?
10/10 fantastic comparison video. Numbers, data, results. Its good to see someone do this right.
I'd love to see what a flex fuel number is without headers and exhaust modification. I installed the Roush H pipe on a factory 2019 GT with electric exhaust option. Would like to see what bump a flex fuel calibration gives before doing it, rough idea anyway.
Great video! What are we looking at cost wise with all of these?
Great content 😂
Bad ass video
Thanks 👌
Great video! Would love to see some videos on a 18+ Coyote f150
No truck crap!
Great video I had the same gains with 47 injectors JLT cold air intake race tune 93/E85 so headers are not worth the money and manifold intake not needed I’m going to change my water pump pulley and be happy with that Friday night I’ll go on E85 be at 440 rwhp 😊
Great video where can I get that throttle body.
Probably one of the best videos I’ve seen in a long time
Does anyone know the difference at the wheels between the automatic and manual?
I want this set up.
My 19 GT on 93 did in fact (bone stock) avg 3 pulls 403RWHP on a Dyno Jet. Fantastic vid, actually gives answers to those questions ALL of us wanted to know BEFORE spending our money.
The fly in the ointment is the JLT result. Hood open, accurate. However with hood closed - way high -really more like 9 to 13 RWHP.
Worth mentioning P51 cold air system ~ $250. It actually does JLT like dyno #'s with hood closed.
Again-fantastic video 👌👌
I think with a closed hood the JLT would’ve made the same as the stock intake pipe… not to mention it would probably drop trap speed considering it’s not a sealed box VS the factory box ram air at high speed…
I'd be curious to see the car tuned with no CAI then CAI installed and tuned. Thought I seen HHP do this and the gain was negligible.
Was the cold air intake calibration purely MAF adjustments? Or did it include fueling and timing adjustments?
@nationalspeed what if any gains could be seen from upgrading coil packs?
Happy happy dyno
this was some great info to see. And not just everything all at once. I gotta wonder thought what the horsepower numbers could have been with either 3" catback or resonator delete w/ an axle back system.
How did u do all the dyno runs and all the modifications in 2 hrs, headers alone take more then that.
That's the exact same as my car, options, year, color and all.
Now I know exactly what I need to reach 500rwhp
I would like to see cobra gen2 intake manifold and x pipe...
My bone stock 2019 Bullitt did 441rwhp 402tq on 93 pump gas
It’s the gt350 mani throttle and intake
It's weird I have all of this except the ported manifold, and im in house Palm Beach Dyno tuned on an E85 tune, only at 459.....?
The sunspots track is the best
One of the best vids I’ve seen on the topic. As pro as it gets!! It should have thousands of views!
I tested my 2016 gt on the dyno to know the baseline before I make all the changes. It peeked 381 hp. Is that common for a stock 15/17?
Now, I ordered a 2018 manifold, cold air intake, 91/93 tune (7900 redline) + tune device all the parts by vmp.
I have the original catalytic converters + x pipe and muffler delete.
Should I be expecting 430 hp similar to your stage one on the vid?
It’s pretty much the same: cold air, 18 manifold… and I guess the tune Should be similar for 93 gas
We appreciate the words, Fran! And yeah, 381whp is pretty common for Gen-II 5.0L Mustangs. Your power expectations sound in line to us!
@@NationalSpeedInc Thank you so much, I''ll let you know how it goes when we test it after the mods.
I have a 2015 with similar mods! 18 intake manifold, pmas cai, stock catalytic converters and e85 tune from palm beach dyno and it made 423
@@enflamedpapaya8592 ported or stock 18?
@@codyroiland367 stock
I love my 21 gt 10 speed
What will it run at the track with street tire air lower at 28 psi.😎💪👏🇨🇦
Wish y'all did a 93 calibration before doing the intake to show the gain from just an intake (yes, i know intake is minimal on it's own, just wanted to see a number)
All dyno runs done within 2 hrs? How the hell did u get the headers installed that quickly
my thoughts exactly
I put the AFE 85mm throttle body on my 2023 GT. I wonder if that makes anymore power vs just a stock for ported stock throttle body.
That was an impressive hp gain with just the intake and headers. I wonder how much more hp a full exhaust system would add.
Do you happen to have a parts list with links?
Great info as usual from you guys. Question.. if you were to allow the active to do what it does, would there be any gains or losses?
I just picked up a 2019 mustang GT manual cause I’m a man jk jk but anyways this is the best video for these cars I’ve found yet. Now I know what I’ll throw on the car first. The car is stock ash besides a corsa cat back, and Injen CAI but idk how good the INJEN brand is I know for civics it like ricer lol
Question if you change the thermostat to the 160* would it blow any codes over the stock thermostat?? Thank you
I have a 21 base GT cold air intake jlt not tune required corsa x pipe and muffler delete on e 85 424 hp max 455 torque max
Is that good or ? Did I go to the wrong tuner lol ?
whats the difference in manifold colors, some are gray and some are black ? only apperrance ?
Is there a way you can do this but with the gen 2 coyote?
Is there a video for a 2nd gen
Heard many negative thoughts on the JLT intake sucking in a lot of hot air causing horsepower loss on normal hot day driving. Not sure how true all that is
Yeah, we've read the same, but we haven't seen anything like that in our datalogging. We've had nothing but great results over the years.
Was there a custom tune between each run?
Do you have links to the parts?
*Add to favorites
Can you guys do a video like this for a 5th/6th gen Camaro? Or are you guys ford only?
And here I was about to pay 500 to swap my 3rd Gen mani for a ported one…. Thank you guys.
Glad we could help!
Same...I've always wondered what the actual gain of it would be...I've always felt like it was better suited for the gen 2s
@@NationalSpeedInc after installing a ported manifold don't you need a tune
@harmansingh3267 probably I noticed in this video they just slapped it on and said "oh well, no gains"
@@evanderlugopsof course if u don’t tune the ported mani u won’t gain anything just like headers with no tune or a intake so with a tune it’s 10 wheel to 15 tricky told me
Honestly surprised that the intake gave 21 hp. I figured 10-12 tops. The thermostat was also a surprise. Great video.
well remember the hood is open and theres fans on it so this is not real world numbers
It didn't give that much, that was going from stock tune to aftermarket tune for most the gain.
@@ruru2500no, the video clearly shows the intake and thermostat responsible for making those horsepower gains, not the tune
You should have shown the difference between catted and catless. Because there is a difference. A small one but it’s between 5-10hp of a difference. Would’ve been interesting because no one tests that back to back usually. Would’ve been a better examination over a bs throttle body that no matter what is going to set codes off eventually.
What about the voodoo manifold??
Does gear ratio matter when doing the NA mods or supercharger kits? Wondering if you had any opinions between 3.15 vs 3.55?
I love my 3:55 on my 6r80
I like these bolt on dyno tests except one thing. I’d be interested to know how IAT’s change the results. Dyno tests are always with the hood up but that’s not a real world test. Especially with closed v open filter boxes. Keep the fan running but, close the hood would be a better actual test.
Do you think cat deletes and a x pipe would put it at 500hp?
Curious.. isn't the actual performance parts ability to allow for safe computer input for maximum power out.. like cai or heat, x hangers or other parts that drop boost but increase power with less effort?
It's just a question?
So could you elaborate on what you mean by “dials in the calibration” with the intake? Are you ONLY changing the MAF? Are the timing tables the same?
I struggle to see how that much of a gain comes from the intake. I want to see the stock intake with the same tune as the jlt (just alter the maf curve). Otherwise this is misleading.
What year was the Mustang?
Nine Inch Nails - Sunspots playing at the 2:10 mark, Nine Inch Nails - Only playing at 7:30 mark, both are the instrumental versions. Surprised this didn’t set off UA-cam’s copyright system.
when he says open headers what does that mean?
So apparently there is a huge wad of cotton called a hydrocarbon filter in the intake tube before the MAF sensor I think so couldn’t I just remove it to get my 10 ponies back? Btw I have a 2022 mustang GT. Thoughts?
Just wanted to let everyone know that it felt like it lost power when removing the hydrocarbon filter so I put it back in 🤷♂️
@@zgblundellI removed mine and felt 0 difference.
My favourite car, my favourite bands music in the background. Subd
Makes me wonder what my 2015 GT is making right now. It’s got a JLT intake, cat deleted and an E-85 tune. My guess would be around 440hp but idk for sure. I need to dyno my car, I bought in with those upgrades already done to it and I plan on doing more but I wanna get it’s current numbers as it sits now to see how much I gain with the future mods.
probably do ported 18 mani
How can these dyno runs have been completed in a 2 hour window when headers take a few hours alone to install?
Wish I was closer to you guys.. all the shops around me in MN want $1000 just to install long tube headers.. lol.
We are open to getting vehicles shipped in. Customers do it all the time!
Dang I'd love to pay 1k, by me people want 1800.
@@jeremy2606 paid 300 down here in Texas
@@Jes2e As a Texan gotta ask where and do you recommend them
400 in dallas lol
Did anybody hear them say anything about a tune after the headers? I know they thru 85 in the car too but never said anything who tuned it..
Would camshafts and spark plugs make much difference?
Depends on how aggressive the camshaft is. But at the price it might be worth just going boost. A 493 wheel horse power 10 speed GT is gonna be plenty quick NA.
Wonder with a boss 302 intake manifold it would make 500
Next, cams and ported heads.
If headers are getting you that much more power, why don't tuners (lund) want to do a new tune when I add headers?????
I know this is older. I am just really curious on the JLT intake with the Mach 1. Does it really make a big difference up top, over the current GT350 intake that it has on it? Has anyone done that comparison with something controlled like this?
Don’t waste the money. Keep the intake you have. In the real world the closed box intakes actually work and it’s been proven.
The first modification to do is the headers and tune.
I have a 19 bullitt which has your gt 350 intake setup. I put a Lund tune and an h pipe, now making 444hp and 406ft lbs on pump gas. Both mods are worth the money.
I'm not sure if yours is a 21 or 22 Mach 1. They added a hydrocarbon trap to the 22 and 23 Mach 1s inside the cold air intake which decreases 18 Wheel horsepower. You can remove it in 30 minutes. If yours is a 21 Mach 1 you don't have to worry about it
And how much it cost?
Go fast have fun be safe lol
No CJ?
Wondering if having a full exhaust would have pushed it to that 500hp mark?...!
Speed limiter off would be the first thing i did. All the pc crap like tc and stm id take off too. Those cats i would of not did. But i get why you did it is a legality issue. That intake porting does no good without throttle body and bigger injectors. I wonder if thats the issue there. The thermostat is good keep it cooler. Heads and a cam would be cool. Or a map tune.
Little issue with the intake being done hood up.. Real world those gains will not be that substantial.
Id guess ported intake means nothing without boost
Over all great video. They should’ve know that open headers aren’t good though 😅. Wish they would’ve gone ahead and put a full exhaust on it. Most guys, myself included, will have added a cat back system before any of these other mods. Impressive numbers though for stock mufflers
Cringed so hard …. But yes should’ve done that definitely would’ve gained some hp
