Severance -Everything they told you about severance is a lie

  • When Helly steps to the stage for her speech, she reveals that she is Helena’s innie, rather than Helena herself, and that “everything they told you about severance is a lie,” with workers effectively being “prisoners” subjected to endless torture. Back at the book reading, Mark comes upon a photo of his wife, who he immediately recognizes as Lumon wellness worker Ms. Casey (Dichen Lachman)-exclaiming, “She’s alive!” Then, Milchick makes his way into the control room and tackles Dylan, and we cut to black. Severance explained.

So fascinating to imagine what happens in the seconds after “ding”. Do the outies realise that the innies have been controlling their bodies? How quickly do they figure it out? Burt’s outie finds himself banging on a door yelling Burt’s name. Presumably Burt comes to the door. Do the outies know each other? Mark has just yelled “she’s alive”. Is he still holding the picture of Gemma, will he know that’s who his innie was yelling about? Helena has just been tackled to the floor after Helly R announced to the Friends of Lumon that the innies are miserable and tortured. How will she salvage the situation? How will Lumon respond? I can’t wait to find out!

Their innies will probably be shocked since they did not expect (at least Mark) they can be severed outside Lumon building.
Mark yelling "she's alive" with picture of his wife will make him drunken lunatic who cannot accept his wife's death in eyes of other with exception of Devon.
Helena will be surprised with what happened between conversation with Natalie before OT protocol and now. Her speech will cause problems to Lumon because she was supposed to convince unconvinced people at the gala. Turning this into Lumon's advantage seems practically impossible even with the best PR agency.
I cannot really predict what will happen with Irving (since he seems to be some sort of investigator of Lumon), but first idea that pops into my head is, he will be seen by Burt as someone with dementia who doesn't know why he's here.
And of course - Dylan is in the huge trouble. Not only because of huge disobedience, but he is also in possession of Doug Graner's card, which will make him suspect number 1 of murder case.

Something I noticed unconsciously while watching this, until it became conscious, was the role of "Dylan as Jesus Martyr" throughout this episode. I kept thinking to myself that he's the hero of this episode, he's sacrificing his own desire to know who his outer personality is, he's sacrificing getting to meet his kids, which he wants more than anything, etc, in order to help his friends. Then I realized he's physically splayed out much like Jesus for the entire episode. And it clicked. Suffering through the pain/discomfort and stress of the prolonged splayed out position, and sacrificing his own wants and desires for literally *the greater good.* So his friends can figure out who they really are, what's really going on, and in Helly's case, warn the entire world. None of it was possible without Dylan willing to be the one to sacrifice himself, so to speak.
I also couldn't stop noticing the parallels between the whole Egan cult thing and Scientology. The big event at the end where Helly is the speaker, shown in this clip, all snazzy and high level with the high level elites, smacks of glitzy Hollywood Scientology events, full of their lifelong, brainwashed members who've been in it since birth, thanks to their own parents. Speaking weird and brainwashed, trying to convince themselves and others of the righteousness of it all. I went online to see if anybody else was seeing it and found many discussions noting it.

The three of them agreed that what they had to do when they activated the Overtime Protocol was to find someone they trust to tell about what's going on at Lumon. I think that when Irving's innie realized he lived alone, he had to improvise, so he started learning more about himself until he found the list of employees and addresses. Once he found Burt's name, I think his actions took on a double purpose. He had to make sure Burt's outie was okay, and even if the outie wouldn't know him, he would still be the closest person to someone he could trust that he knew he could get to in time.

    • @tendayforecast
      @tendayforecast 8 місяців тому +6

also keep in mind that the innies lives are only but a fraction of the length of ours, with no real opportunity to develop or explore emotions. so imagine having the emotional intensity and depth of a fully grown man, but only like a month tops to experience anything with it, and 0 memories or experiences to reference. Burt is the only love that Irving’s innie has ever known, so his desperation with Burt (even inside Lumon) makes sense

Helley is a perfect example of COMMUNISM, if you are with who has the power you live like a king and you think that you know what is best for people and you think they are happy, but when you turn into people (helley R) you realise you are in a prison, doing whatever they want and living a miserable life. Amazing serie by the way

I know death of the author is a thing and different people can interpret media in different ways, but in your case the author is not only dead but rolling in his grave. I can't fathom how someone could watch a show that's so clearly lampooning modern corporate capitalism and be like "this character is sad therefore communism". This is like one of those boomer facebook memes captioned "this is what things would be like under COMMUNISM" and the picture is of homeless people in the proudly capitalistic USA.

@@dm9910both are shit mate, the difference is that in capitalism you can chose not working or do whatever you want, but in communism you don’t choose, they choose everything for you and if you say no they just put a gun in your head, that’s what happened everywhere with communism

@@dm9910 You know, I'm going to take this time to make a little rant of my own, just because I want to as pointless as it is. Russia, is not socialist. It is capitalist. Putin deplores Communism. The Soviet Union is evangelised by modern Russians as a state of the Russian Empire. Ask Russians. 99% of them are gone full MAGA x1000. Ukraine is more socialist than Russia. Really. But it's anticommunist because it's so tied to the Russian Empire and the downfall of the Soviet Union. Despite all the propaganda to justify bombing children in their beds, nobody cares about your bloodline in Ukraine, most people are Russian by heritage to some degree. It's a political state, bound by not being part of Russia anymore.
This is relevant, because the MAGA evangelical anti-communist guys like @luan77x, and ardent Communist Revolution types in the west, are both Anti-Ukraine. Russian TV outrights genocidal bloodlust every day against Ukrainians and promises to bomb and invade the rest of Europe, but it's all excused by both MAGA and Tankie types. Because of whatever nonsense they regurgitate.
I say this as a tangent, because absolutely this show is a critique of capitalism but I just can't help but laugh at the absolute mess of anti-/pro- capitalism/communism debate in society nowadays. Whatever luan here thinks the show is about that somehow makes it anticommunist, his type is probably anti-Ukraine MAGA because Russia pumps both types. I would consider myself a socialist who sees Russia as a dirty little bully who people fall for every time. Defund and sanction Israel out of existence, I don't care, but when I see this chat I just got to say, Russia is still a goddamn genocidal bully. And always was.

So someone can say, why the memories of work and life were not mixed. If they can remember the memories of life.. then the one who lives should be able to remember the memories of the workplace... Why did the memories of the workplace replace life?! Wasn't this the director's mistake?! It's like I remember something but I'm not going to forget my current memories and life.

this show is very information-based, as the plot is entirely dependent upon what the characters do and do not know. and thus this segment will leave major permanent changes to how the series goes forward. in this way, it sets up the next seasons quite well. it's meant to be a slow burn, and doesn't rely on action.
