Such an amazing character. She starts off as a joke and even a slight antagonist. Then out of nowhere the show gut punches you and you feel such empathy for her and Mark.
i think they're testing to see if he reacts... therefore they can know if there are any memories shared between the outie and innie sections in their brains
i think they're testing to see if he reacts... therefore they can know if there are any memories shared between the outie and innie sections in their brains
@@ahmetemreboyaci true, that's also why they gave mark clay and he made a tree, like the one by the road where he stopped and cried (remembering his death wife gemma), that tree is connected to her death somehow and that knowledge subconsciously passed through the severance to his innie. (I think this is also what is happening with Irving and his paintings of the testing room elevator and the black blotches of paint he sees when he falls sleep on the job). Also the fact that the wellness counselor is some kind of clone or synthetic human version of gemma, that was the ultimate test for Mark S., to see if he could remember her.
"I really liked being in the office with you all that day" hit me right in the heart. I'm sure I'm not the only one who felt the significance of that line.
It’s because if he loses all his points she goes back to sleep and she’s only been awake like one hundred hours her entire life and most of her life is these sessions
The music is enchanting. The set design is enchanting. But Dichen Lachman is especially enchanting. She has such little screen time but demands importance.
I have no penchant for another female whatsoever but this is different. It feels like a sound spa washing over you to soothe the wrinkles and most your face with mineral water with the music.
I was starting to feel bad for her since she seemed so strange but also very concerned that there had to be something nefarious happening to her. When she said she was only awake for 107 hours, man, that destroyed me!
A couple of things I love about these scenes. 1. To gather the information told to the Innies, Lumon would have to lie, which we know may not be true, or else either collect data secretly about their employees, or have them input fun facts about themselves into a survey. This may be a way for Irving to communicate with his Outie, who we've already seen trying to do (the Black paint, as well as the fact that Irving likes the sound of radar, which is also the name of his dog) 2. The wording of the facts is odd at times, like when Ms Casey mentions "muggers and knaves", or referring to mentally ill people as insane, which makes me think that if Lumon is inserting their own facts about an outie, they come straight from the handbook, worded the way Kier Egan would have spoken it back ages ago
Re: #2, to add to your point the way technology is described also tallies with Kier's time period e.g. "likes to watch films and owns a machine that plays them" What threw me off was "likes the sound of radar", although at the later season it's revealed that "radar" really is a name "Radar"
My wife and I laughed so hysterically at this scene, I'm secretly putting together a "wellness session" for her. My favorites so far: Your outie is a lover of fun, and enjoys having it. Your outie travelled to a different country four months ago, and visited an outlet mall. Your outie enjoys looking at waterfowl, and knows how to draw several variates of species. Your outie is fond of spaghetti, and has eaten it at many restaurants.
Mm, I was surprisingly just enchanted by these scenes... the music, the setting, the acting... all of it combined made it a specially unique scene. I might have giggled/chuckled at some of the lines she would say especially to Irving but mostly I was just engaged into the conversation, Into how she delivered her lines and the way the music would mix well with her voice... it was a hypnotic watch, and I could not turn my eyes away. Love this show!
she said : " you're nice Mark " not Mark S. ... I think that's why cobelt is so happy at this moment. She wants something, maybe for her family or revenge on something but she really wanted that they recognize together.
Mark is the catalyst in the beginning of an uprising, simply because he’s compassionate. Innies vs Lumen. I’m so excited to see how this develops! (If Ms. Casey dies at any point, I will lose my will to live.)
Damn , the song just sends me to outer space! Absolutely breathtaking! It is a perfect song for meditation, relaxation, a type of song that could be used for almost anything... heck, this song sometimes makes me dwell on my life and past. Heck, this song literally is the perfect song to play when your soul lifts itself from your body and just takes you on a journey to Heaven or a journey to meet your maker... whatever it is, but this song is just absolute perfection! Enchanting is probably the right word to use. Also, both scenes are equally great. All the actors did an amazing job! I love this series. It's a masterpiece! We need Season 2 ASAP! I can't wait any longer, that cliffhanger is brutal...
I knew there was something more up with her. Her character was too strong and intriguing. Of course it could just be good writing - a bit character that feels very real because the writers did their job - but it seemed like there was care and love behind the way they wrote her so it would have been disappointing if she never showed up again.
I wish my home life and work life were separated like this. Although I see how that can be damaging to humanity. Really loved the show. The scenes with her are my favorites.
I was wondering how much of the Wellness Session is actually trying to implant messages through the innies into the outies as a form of subliminal mind control
I bet she just says these things to all the workers and that’s why there not allowed to talk about the facts to each other ( maybe a few were true because his dog is named radar
It's heavily implied that what she says is based on the spying that Harmony does, like when she lights the candle that Harmony stole for Mark. Probably with some very generic outright lies mixed in just to make them feel good.
She also talked about him enjoying music and being a good swimmer. I think most of the statements are probably true but without context. I'm sure Lumon did a detailed interview and had them fill out questionnaires about their history before the procedure they could draw from. I think they are using these "wellness sessions" to test their responses to facts about them and see what they remember and how effective the procedure was.
I realized when she lit the same two colored candle that was in Gemma's box. It is sad that she had to live like that, in a way, is a little worse than the RMD guys situation
Its a therapy session for workers who underwent a consensual lobotomy to split their personalities- innie (during work) and outie (outside work). They have no idea who their outie is so the therapist is telling them who they supposedly are.
The severance process simply has to be capable of being selective in terms of which memories it restricts/wipes. They remove all sense of self from the innies, but they don't completely wipe them to a blank slate. Otherwise they wouldn't even be able to speak English (or any language), as they wouldn't know how. Even their base outie personalities remain, like how Helly is a strong, dominant presence who won't be told what to do. No doubt Helena is exactly the same, even though we haven't seen much of her, because that's the kind of person who gets ahead in the world of the rich. Of course, Helena is also a sociopath, but that comes from a life of wealth and privilege. Helly has nothing, so her domineering nature leads to rebellion instead.
Ya know, it's really unclear. Because memories of objects are indeed tied to our experiences of them. These whole split memory thing is convoluted but I just try to enjoy the plot. 😅
seconding what the others have said, and I want to note as well that they have a calibration process when the innie is first activated to make sure that they know what they're supposed to know, and don't know what they're not. This calibration is very simple and takes the form of a series questions; to get a perfect score, you have to be able to name a U.S. state, but not know your own name, and so on.
'Be open to the facts. Try to enjoy each equally'. - Mark later talks about how he loved each of Gemma's attributes equally, she probably knew that and I wonder if this was some element of her subconscious percolating through.
At work the other day a customer was only purchasing 2 bananas and as she was leaving I told her to please enjoy each banana equally. I was hoping she’d laugh and give me a smile. Nooo, she filled out the survey on her receipt and mentioned my name. She thought it was something sexual. Just trying to be funny out here lady!
