- The Witchfinder General attends the perverse Festival of Mardi Gras, which is celebrated annually in the backwater French Colony of New Orleans. As to be expected of any French Custom, 'tis steeped in Drunkenness, Idleness, and vile Papistry.
"What's up with the weird accent?" It's a rendition of Original Early Modern English Pronunciation, commonly abbreviated as OP, an accent reconstructed by a linguist and Shakespeare scholar that's our best guess as to what people in southern England sounded like in the 17th century.

Sometimes it really bothers me that there are people in the world unaware that they are wretched sinners (utterly unworthy of God's love) with fountains of pollution deep within their natures, who live as winter trees; unprofitable, fit only to be hew'n down and burned. Some of them don't even steep their lives in prayer, and hope that God sees fit to show mercy on their corrupted souls. It just really gets to me, you know?

As a colonist from the Gulf Coast of Alabama I have witnessed such papist heresy with my very own eyes in the Mobile Bay Colony. Some sinners I observed drinking as early as 8 in the morn instead of toiling in their fields. Twas truly a great travesty for my soul to see.

As an Englishman, your OP is really interesting. There are so many elements that I recognise in our regional accents. It mainly sounds quite West Country, there's something of the Midlands in your vowels occasionally and you slip into Yorkshire a little bit. I can completely imagine 17th century english speakers sounding like that!
