Have you looked at who else they have there? It’s not really like Dan Slott is specifically worse than the current Marvel average. He isn’t even the worst on Spider-Man lately, given Zeb Wells Spider-Man run (and isn’t the „new“ MJ arc a stolen Dan Slott concept?).
Let’s be honest, Dan Slott is just more hated, because he at least got to keep some readers on those titles. The others are just forgotten as nobody reads their stuff.
And no, this is mot supposed to be a defense of Dan Slott. Everybody is imo free to hate the guy, he didn’t really earn anything else. It’s just to show why Dan Slott will stay at Marvel for as long as Marvel has some money left.

I was never a fan of his writing, but such things are subjective. His treatment of customers (aka fans of comics in general and Spider-Man in particular) is objectively wrong and inexcusable. @@mikelmcknight72 To his credit, early Slott had some skills. He was one of the few writers that could write humor. Which is hard. His Great Lakes Avengers series was great. His She-Hulk run was entertaining. But that was young hopeful youthful Slott. Not the foul festering humorless cave troll we now know him as. All he is now is sad… and really really creepy. The Marvel Epic collection books are a lot better than most anything in new comics, and the Marvel Epic collections should be available at all the LCS and retail locations. There is more than enough classic Marvel stories to last anyone's lifetime.

It doesn't really matter anymore. The reason why Marvel and DC hire the people they hire now is because the business itself is running on fumes. It would be a waste of money to hire actual talent. Plus, the actual talent is growing an increasing amount of self-respect and basic business sense and realizing that it isn't worth working for mainstream corpo publishers. There's more money in the independent crowdfunding market.
For the most part, DC's and Marvel's characters have been irrevocably ruined.

The future comics talent is currently either looking for a Hollywood or Gaming gig, or plain simply doing writing only as a hobby. Anybody that wants to pay their bills and have some money on the side, simply doesn’t pursue a career in comics.
Ultimately the market will be outsourced to Japan for the general audience, and the people bad at math will keep the indies and crowdfundings alive.
PS: Imo comics only have a chance of being good on the money, if the creator keeps owning the rights and gets any royalties. Good books can be sold not only in America and they can be sold for decades. That’s where it actually gets interesting, even if nobody makes a movie, series, cartoon or game out of it.

Between retconning the creator to being a black man which now made the shield racist in origin. Cause the original creator of the shield was a metal scientist(who went on to create adamantium) named Dr McClain, and now he is the white guy that took all the credit for what a black man did.
And also stating that the shield was the symbol of an evil origination known as the Outer Circle( crappy version of Court of Owls). And they are not even an American organization. I chatted with Dan Slott once, around 2005, on the now sadly lost Avengers Forever forum. At that time he seemed like a pretty nice dude, and he claimed to be an admirer of Kurt Busiek, which in the Brian Michael Bendis era of the Avengers felt like a welcome change.
Nearly two decades later and the man has consistently proven himself to be a complete goon. I believe the only genre Slott is (or at least WAS) somewhat capable of writing is zany comedy. I'm old enough to remember fandom being up in arms when Thor grew a friggin' BEARD. We actually worried about if/when a creator would ever have Thor shave and go back to his original look. THAT was our big concern. I could not have ever conceived of the day when I would have to sit and wait for a comic book company to retcon (Slott's advice) something like Wally f'n West being a murderer, or Alan Scott inexplicably being gay (still holding out hope on that one, no offense to the gays. It just makes zero sense from a character standpoint).

Dan Slott is one of those creators where as long as he's in the industry, the healing within Marvel will not take place. He's the creator who ruined Spider-Man and told fans that one of the essential marriages within comics eternally broken up is what we all need (Felicia Hardy has never worked longterm, ever). He's the creator that gave us "Dok Ock Spidey" as a self-insert for himself. And when people say they like Superior Spider-Man, I roll my eyes because you've got to be a complete beginner in comics to like something so bastardized or just have bad taste. And even with all that in mind, he treats people in real life worse than his self-insert counterpart. If the rest of his life is lonely and miserable, if it isn't already, all I have to say is he brought all of it on himself.

What I liked about Superior Spider-Man was that you didn’t know what was going to happen. Its unpredictability made it fun, at least for me. And we KNEW Peter would be back, of course. But I liked Superior better than Slott’s ASM run.

      "imagine an evil Spider-Man"
"Like Carnage, or Mac Gargan during dark reign?"
"No no, not that evil. More like an anti hero"
      "Like Venom?"
"No. Not an alien. He'd still be human like Peter.
"aren't they doing a Kaine Scarlet Spider book at almost the exact same time as this?"
"Screw you! I'm going to do a huge event with lots of Spider-Men."
      "Like the clone saga?"

If they're saying they like Superior Spider-Man, they also might be referring to Gage's fix for that character instead of Slott's run.

Marvel doesn't need Dan Slott at all. But if Marvel actually cared about what they "need" then most of the Marvel writers would be out the door.
Marvel has no problem with insulting fans. The editorial position is "what we write is right because we write it, and if you don't like it, you're not a real fan and you're toxic." They do nothing to discourage writers from placing as many fans as possible in this toxic category. As part of this process they get to hire people who they like without regard to sales, and absolve themselves of responsibility to produce a good product.
So if Slott can't get punished for insulting fans (as long as he is on the right side of editorial politics), there's no reason for him to shut up. Especially since Marvel will pay him to phone it in.

To be fair ..Carol Danvers had plenty of good stories in the 2000's . The Brian Reed Ms. Marvel series was very good. Now if you were to ask when we got the last good Carol Danvers Captain Marvel Story , the answer would be the same time Dan Slott turned down dessert .

Good grief, there is so much stupidity at work here that I just want to shove him into a locker. There is a reason why Audi, BMW & Mercedes are conservative with their design choices for the A6, 5 and E series, same applies to parfume/eau de toilette brands with their iconic fragrances, Coca Cola & Pepsi with their classic taste formulas, Haute Horlogerie with their legendary watch models etc etc. No matter what the product is, one thing every customer base hates; is companies taking big risks with an succesful decades old formula. In general Im not a fan of big corporations, but boy I wished Marvel acted like one for once.

Speaking as a former comic retailer, those old books selling don't hurt you. Those books are already bought and paid for (pardon the grammar). Buying new books to resell is a weekly cost. Yes, you rely on the people that show up every week to pick up the new stuff and offset the cost, but those back issues moving are a bonus. If subscribers are hitting your back issues, that money is 100% profit. To your point, I agree, Dan Slott sucks. I've been saying it for years.

I never thought I'd say this about anyone. I wish diabetes would take Dan Slott Away. How he's still employed is beyond me. He's a Powerpuff Girl in a fat guy suit. Completely self- unaware of how much damage he's done. How many people have to be paid to clean up his messes or finish his work. If anybody mentions his name my knee-jerk reaction is to shutter. That's how his legacy will be remembered people involuntarily shuttering.

I don't buy many new comics these days, but I love Captain America, so I decided to give it a chance. I was disappointed by the last volume of Captain America by Lanzig and Kelly so I don't have high hopes. I think I stopped buying it after the 5th issue or something, and then I traded them all in for some quality back issues. The first sign of the typical BS they've been trying to push on us, I will dump this book in a heartbeat and never buy another modern book from Marvel again. And that pains me to say because I'm a big Captain America fan.
