The current run of wally is how people have been wanting peter to be written for years. @@judashentairoite8225 the weirdest thing is, all the stories peter went through later and in a shitty way, wally had the same arcs when he became the flash, but he learnt from them. Peter becoming a rich CEO, going global and losing it all in the end with no particular lesson but throwing it all to "parker luck"? Wally won a lottery, had a luxury mansion and went through a ton of girlfriends before losing it all and learning a lesson of responsibility. Peter having a public identity but losing his loved ones made him question that and thus he requested the devil to erase the memory and that resulted in his marriage getting killed? Wally did both of them in two storylines-after Linda had a miscarriage due to zoom's attacks, wally had a breakdown and requested hal, who was spectre at that time, to bring back the secret identity and it worked. One of my biggest pet peeves with recent comics is the fact that they made the explanation of the Green Goblin persona for Norman that he was possessed by a Demon which would grant him all his wishes (fame, power, intelligence, success) for a price. I hate it because not only does it cheapen the idea of the Green Goblin, as an alternate ego accidently created in a science accident is a better example of the themes of science-gone-wrong and mental issues, but it also makes Norman seem like he was incapable of doing things by himself, so he needed to make a "deal with the Devil" to actually be successful. One of the greatest character traits about Norman in the older comics was that he didn't need the Green Goblin to be evil or to achieve his dubious goals, he was quite capable of doing it himself. He was a self-made man. He didn't need some alternate ego or demon to give him the strength to commit his deeds for him, he could manipulate the chess board all by himself.
They probably want to make him like in the movies where norman was a good guy but had an evil persona in the green goblin This is also a pet peeve of mine with modern marvel comics i feel like they are taking too much from the movies and i think this is one of the reasons why the comics have dipped in quality
@@valletas Norman in the books during Lee/Romita era had some sympathy to him where he tried his best raising Harry on his own after his mother died but he was being tone deaf and kept buying Harry stuff and taking him to ball games but not actually hearing and spending time with Harry sincerely. my problem with modern spiderman is that they try to do the "he picks responsibility over being happy" shtick but in reality, he isn't picking, the world isn't offering him an unfair choice of right and wrong, it is the writers forcefully compressing the world into their ordained path. they alter characters' behaviors, bring out nonsensical elements or even rewrite entire portions of history to get their way. one more day may have been the start but things like losing parker industry are monuments to the BS that is spiderman's existence now. spiderman is going nowhere and the only thing that develops is the pity we have for a man that can do infinitely better if the rulers of his world weren't so set on beating him into the pavement
I still don't get how the writers of the spectacular spider-man cartoon show understood more about the character than comic book writers. Its simple to do. You just put Peter in believable situations where doing the right thing as spider-man can cause issues for peter parker.
@@no.1spidey-fan182 He doesn't cause a lot of his problems in that show solely because he is an idiot. His name being credited for the photos is a bad move though.
What’s funny is that there is Peter Parker/Superman ripoff Invincible who faced the same kind of situation. Becoming a fugitive, choosing vengeance over family, getting raped, almost had his wife and child killed, being trapped in alternate dimension multiple times while also getting cucked because his wife slept with someone else, constantly going to war to protect the universe, becoming a new god emperor who has to protect the new civilization and yet in the end, he managed to handle both worlds simultaneously. He takes responsibility while still salvaging his family from being completely destroyed.
Same thing happened to superior spiderman. Dude had a thing going but then suddenly green goblin shows up and superior spiderman goes "agh Im too weak" and they have to reverse him back into doc-ock to beat green goblin, who then does nothing evil and beats the green goblin by essentially saying "I out-hacked your hack proof devices" and its never explained why superior spiderman is stupider than doc-ock. Superior spiderman was super cool too.
I agree. They should have went forward with him and MJ and his family. There's a whole host of new experiences they could have explored. There was a tiny glimpse of what that would be like when they did the Darkhold storyline, and it would've been fun. I just can't read it anymore in its current state.
“If i were aunt may you’d find a way to save me” This hurts a lot because this is true, they’ve made it true and it’s ruined spider man ever since. He’d destroy his relationships to save an old woman and that’s sad

All white (and black too), straight, male, heterosexual characters are under attack in the entertainment medium right this moment. Spider-Man isn’t alone. To name a few: Superman, SpiderMan, He-Man, Luque Picard (the character), Rocky, Thor, The Hulk, Daredevil, Batman, and many other traditional male superheroes or leads are now written as total ineffective shits who take a back seat to women or have been put to the side to make room for disturbing versions of them. Or just plain taken out (like that Creed sequel where Rocky is nowhere to be seen).

They're not going to make him a good and humble character again, since he's been the mega big Avenger ever since Slotts early work. Ironically they're not brining back the marriage to keep him "relatable," but make him discount iron man and now a discount Goblin. Why not just let Peter ride off into the sunset and have Miles take over? He's clearly the young character Marvel wants! But yeah, I don't think we're ever getting the grounded street level character you described here back. It's a shame.
For fucks sake please don’t make Peter retire. Like seriously. Please don’t. It’s so annoying. I know it’s better than Marvel’s way of handling the character now, but I don’t wanna stop reading new Spider-Man comics.
@@aariz611 Meh, they should've transitioned him over to the leadership/mentorship role they were clearly building him towards years back before they rolled back on that development just to screw the character over (again). He should've become a teacher in Xavier's school, annoy Strange & Murdock every once in a while and be a part of the Fantastic Four's research efforts so he could finally stop being perpetually poor, downtrodden and underutilised. He could still have his own adventures along with his tie-ins to the various groups. But nooo, Marvel has to keep him depressed and on the brink of derangement just so they could keep churning out their torture/cuckold kink that's no longer even "relatable" to anyone at this point. Also, screw the Avengers - Peter has better synergy with the X-Men and Fantastic Four.
Small detail that I like about this story is how when Jonah wakes up after his wife's death, you can see how he was laying on one pillow, while three others were laying next to him, where his wife slept. He's giving them to his wife, but she's not there anymore, and he can't deal with that
I think those are throw pillows people have on their bed, decorative pillows that are put out when you make the bed but you don’t actually sleep on them. I don’t think it’s that he gave them to her but instead it’s that she isn’t there to remove her side of the bed’s pillows. You can even see her side of the bed is still made/sheets neatly tucked. Still rings in the same point though: minor detail showing she’s gone
Super sad that Spider man is always alone. Despite being a part of an avengers and partying with Xmen he keeps being by himself with no friends and family.
There are probably spiderman series' where he is the only superhero in the world, or the world is just criminal-filled and all heroes are busy and understaffed. Something you forgot to mention about Charlie is that she wanted to die. She intentionally threw herself toward Peter because she knew how he was going to react. The story was about her wanting to kill herself, so she contacted her old friend Wolverine to do so but Spidey kept getting in their way. In the middle of a heated discussion between Spidey and Wolvie she threw herself at Peter, so he responded with a superpowered punch thinking it was Logan. She died instantly and probably painlessly, as she wanted.
i have that comic and read it as a kid and i never knew it was build upon, its such an odd story and so short too, also wolverine never mentioned it for years.
It's a real indication of their differences that it seems to have affected Peter more than Logan, or even would've if he'd done it (at least on the surface).
I have the same problem with almost every classic Marvel superhero: Peter can’t grow up and be happy, Iron Man can’t marry Hellcat or simply have a proper partner, Hank Pym can’t learn from his mistakes and settle down or even be alive, at this point. The list goes on. If you don’t allow characters to mature both mentally and physically, one might lose interest in them, because there is essentially no point in anything they go through. Even the TMNT comics do a better job with long-lasting consequences than the current Marvel stories. That’s why I am personally worried about every single character and their relationships. When they argue or break up, I feel hurt. Deaths hurt as well. I miss that feeling.
The recent "Everything doesn't matter" writing style of Marvel Comics as a whole, I feel, is because of the MCU. The comics used to be these standalone, in-depth opportunities to flesh out iconic characters. Now they're written with the intent to abridge themselves with the MCU. Everything now is a one shot, unrelated to previous events, acting as somewhat origin stories but also self-contained stories for the writers to have a lot more freedom. Yeah they still write some really entertaining crossover events but every single issue 1 tends to be a reboot of the character, mostly going nowhere but still managing to impact the character's mythos. How many times will Tony Stark lose everything and become a drunkard? How many times must Captain Marvel's origin story be remixed? How many times will the Avengers clash with the X-Men, Eternals, or Inhumans? Everything doesn't matter, and stories like in the video are incredibly rare.
I really want to get into Marvel/DC comics, I really do. But sometimes I get overwhelmed by the different storylines and universes. Like why can't they just make a story linear, continue what the founders started. I don't know what's canon or not, making excuses like "it's from a different universe".
@@kaelthunderhoof5619 The comics are literally self-contained stories. If you want to read the House of M series, just read from House of M 1. @@smitefulaxe1344that’s kind of the problem. It all contributes to the overall mythos whether they’re seperate issues or not. Unless specifically stated or at least implied, events generally always to be considered within the same universe, so simply writing whatever they want without regard for other works makes everything a complete mess.
@@smitefulaxe1344 you're kind of ignoring the other issue here, changing of writers every new series and that's not just limited to same characters in different universes, like what's the point of following that particular iteration of that character, if they end up being changed anyway. Also, I can kind of dislike the fact that writers at DC and Marvel can't let a character die for too long and sometimes in the same iteration, it really makes the conflicts have zero-tension, it would've fine, if they were writing slice of life or a comedy series, but superhero comics are usually action-adventure, so there's zero excuse there.
it's funny because in almost every other form of media besides comics even if Spiderman starts out as something of an errand boy he quickly grows out of it because he's SPIDERMAN and as many heroes and villains clearly point out he's capable of far greater things than he does day-to-day

Agreed. I’d like to add an example to your point. Joker belongs in DC but he is notorious for constantly breaking out of Arkham Asylum. It’s not Batman’s fault he keeps being sent there. Batman’s not the one who decides that Joker should carry out his sentence in Arkham. The heroes are just supposed to catch the bad guys and save people along the way. I think my favorite Spider-Man origin story is "With Great Power". It's after Peter becomes Spider-Man, but before Uncle Ben passes away. In the comic, the time between Peter getting bitten, and Uncle Ben getting shot, is extended to a couple months. It goes really far in depth of his inner turmoil as a kid in high school who gets rejected and bullied at every turn. It goes deeper into his wrestling career and what it entailed, as well. I really recommend it.
As much as no kill rules might be non sensical and even stupid sometimes, I just can’t help but feel something in my heart for the absolute heroism of believing that no one, not even you the guy with the powers of a god, get to decide the life or death of anyone else. Batman and Spidey are the goats of their franchises for a reason. I still love punisher and red hood though.
It completely takes me out of the Comic. Batman and Spider-man come off as complete fools. Imagine in WW2 the Allies used Rubber Bullets so that they would seem morally superior to the Nazi's. Then the Nazi goes on to win and kill millions more. But hey, i least you didn't kill right.
It is stupid. Inexcusably stupid. Especially for Batman. Imagine the irresponsible evil of telling a kid "sure you can go out and fight monsters, rapists and murderers with me. He was so damn close to having a happy ending in the 90s with Ben taking his place as an excellent legacy character. But no, like everything since then, the writers are hell bent on ensuring Peter will never grow, be happy, or let the dozens of other Spider-people take his place. Ben, Miles, Mayday, Jessica, Kaine, Julia, JUST SOMEONE. Just keep the flow going instead of keeping everything Spider-Man in a perpetual narrative whirlpool
everyone really hates Slott for some pretty good reasons but you gotta admit that he had some really influential issues and stories that are genuinely amazing like No One Dies, Spider-Island, Ends of the Earth, and the probably the best one Superior Spider-Man. He definitely has his flaws like hating MJ just the F4 run but Spider-Man has some thought provoking issues and runs.
The problem with Slott is that he got addicted to Twitter and literally tweeting 500 times a day (not even joking) about Donald Trump. The dude completely lost it and his productivity went into the crapper along with his creativity.
Yknow whats weird and immersion breaking? He understands the character of Peter Parker. He is HEAVILY familiar with the history of his comics, down to the most minute, forgettable characters and the most minute, forgettable storylines. So, that means he willingly CHOSE to write storylines that stain both Spider-Man and his mythology in order to keep people reading.
The problem seems to be that peter is now the comic relief instead of one of the most tragic yet kind heroes. Damn, I don't even read comics and I felt a lot of emotion listening to this story. However, I feel that this isn't a good ending for Peter as it doesn't show any real growth. Peter starts out traumatized by all the people he has let down. And at the end, he says that no one will be killed again. He's setting the bar way too high and making unrealistic expectations. By saying that, Peter is setting himself up for failure and more grief. A more mature way to contemplate the pain and suffering he couldn't stop, would be for Peter to accept that people die. And sometimes, there's nothing you can do about it. You can't change the past so he must accept it. However, this doesn't mean giving up the mask. With his power, Peter still has the responsibility to save as many lives as possible and to help as many as he can reach. And it's good for him to go out of his way to save people, even ones like Massacre. However, Peter is only human and cannot save every life. Instead of wallowing in his self-loathing and grief, Peter instead has to move on and accept the harsh truth that he can't save everyone, and be happy for all those he saved. People die, but that doesn't mean its his fault because at least he put 100% effort into trying to save them. However, the people that live, they're alive because of Peter. I think thematically, this would make a really good Spiderman story if it hasn't already been written.

How sad is this. and I have seen so many people who have come out of the recent volume of amazing spider man like Spider man fans, Marvel fans, and just comic book fans in general. Personally, I'm more of a DC person but I was raised more on Marvel when it came to film since, I grew up in the 2000's. It pretty much has everyone split into threes. Some love it, some hate it, others are 50-50. but very few people I've seen have said "I love this new volume I'd read it again." a certain percentage of fans meanwhile who say that they quote on quote "like it" are often like "Yeah it's alright I don't know if I'd read it again it had its flaws, but it was good and alright" This is Mary Jane Watson were talking about here. The most important relationship to Spiderman. That alone writes itself how you just pretty much destroy everything that a previous author was trying to do, replace it with a story that's just as bad if not worse than Brand New Day, and just completely ignore fans complaints going forward. Well hopefully the next writing team and if not that hopefully the next writing team. Truth be told I have more faith now that Joe Quessida has finally left Marvel. But at the end of the day this is still in my opinion a cold, calculated, sad, pathetic move by a studio that has Batman envy so bad that they are willing to do anything to try and catch up. But all they have done is taken the worst Batman has to offer like no happiness or victories for its main character, new suits that are completely useless or underused, main character being harsh, critical and short-tempered, and notoriously slow to trust, keeping things hidden from his closest allies, constantly brooding and pushing his friends and family away. And none of the things that make Batman great like soul, a spirit of justice and hope, F***ing humanity. All of those things they chucked out so now we've got the worst of both worlds. I loved the hell out of the recent Batman movie that came out this year but I didn't like it just for the mafia subplot. Well that's all we get in the first story arc of the new volume for ASM and like I said all the humanity is gone and I don't know much about Zeb Wells so that doesn't help like......just....MAKE A GOOD STORY! YOU DON'T NEED TO DO THIS! Like do you people read a spiderman comic to see batman. I mean I'm sure a lot of you don't even read spiderman comics and you're probably not going to want to now after what they've been doing to him and MJ lately. Let me rephrase the question would turning the Spider-Man homecoming trilogy into a batman type series make it better? NO! Like I don't go to a Spiderman related media to see Batman. I go to Batman media to see Batman and even then I'm getting kind of Batman'd out because of DC overusing the character a lot recently. Which is why I wish Marvel would get their god damn ass together and actually do something but do something original, new, and it's own thing. STOP TRYING TO COPY BATMAN! I don't wanna see you do Batman. I like you because you're Spiderman. And not only that you're just getting into it too late. Like I'm getting tired of Batman doing it and now you wanna do it? The balls and the hubris to think you can really pull this off like Batman does and do this as well and just copy Batman's formula. It's F***ing ridiculous don't do it. just focus on making a really great set of spiderman stories. Like stop trying to copy the batman formula over there. Let him do his own thing. I don't know. I continue once again moving the yardstick to every writing team post One More Day discovery I hope they get their shit together because I love Spiderman. Batman might still be my favorite comic book hero of all time, but Spiderman is a close second. So even though a DC character is still my favorite it's making me cry watching this happen to a Marvel character again and again.
Not gonna lie, I feel like now more than ever do we need a DC style reboot or another type of Ultimate universe (without a ton of super edge). If you have to stick to continuity from decades worth of stories and have characters go through circular arcs over and over and over again. Like I want to see everything from the ground up again. With fresh, new stories and with new and old characters showing real growth without constantly regressing or massively changing between each run to the point that it turns off fans from that character. The only exception I think that Marvel has to this constant contiuity is Daredevil. He is a constantly changing, complex character that has years of history built up behind him which adds weight to his actions now. And yes, I know DD has some stinkers but I feel like he has had the most consistently great comics over every other Marvel character. More ups than downs in terms of quality. I'm not saying that the history of Marvel comics should be thrown away but at some point, things just stop making sense and can massively hinder a creators control of the story that they want to tell.
I agree with this immensely. And I also think Moon Knight is another great example for a character who's always been changing for the better. No series of Moon Knight ever feels the same and it thematically works perfectly for him too. His growth and continuity is one of my personal favourites and most intriguing to see, even with the occasional crappy series like the 90's run or the recent Age of Khonshu happenings.
They play that many time he return to be a mess of a person for his "sacrifices" that you don't believe Peter actually care over it. The late good thin they do with the character were Superior Spider-man (well they too are making a mess with Otto lately) and when is using in miniseries were that version is allowed to progress with his life. Lately they neither give his small victories, that expose Peter Parker Mather too(the last time I feel it was before the event of Superior Spider-man)
I think it would be just cooled, if Peter becomes married, has a son, and a house, and is a teacher, he would be still spider man, just with a wife and a son, his own place, and a good job. It has been boring seeing our favorite childhood heros ( bats, cap, thor) running still, instead of settling down and have wife and family. It would be some cool dad pete moments, and it can be that sometimes villians invade his house, and he saves it. And if it really comes down it, mj can divorced him because of the attacking, and teachers have low wages, so if they still want the status quo, then there it is.
i feel like peter should grow up to be kind of a loser. like in spiderverse. it feels fitting that all the time he spent saving new york took its toll on him, but he keeps doing it anyway because he is spider man
If they didn't go on the one more day route I feel like truly Peter's story could have been wrapped of nicely and like his son or daughter could have been the next generation of like spider person or Spider-Man but with them constantly rebooting it it's more than just frustrating it's just like why even bother liking Spider-Man anymore because they constantly change him to almost make him unlikable on purpose I mean me personally I like the older stories from like the '80s and '90s and so on to me those were the great stories and I've only heard about them through UA-cam videos but I've recently started collecting them an epic form and it's a really cool to see these stories that I've heard about for so long
i think the problem is that they keep punching down with spider and even more so with peter parker. marvel tends to have their hero despite thing not going their way. spider gets that dialed up to 11. and peterparker not only cant catch a brake but he seems to not be allowed to grow.
Nh the fantastic 4 still got children ben married Wolverine still has a family(he even give up the mantle to his daughter, but they fucking ruined it) Spiderwoman has a whole family with her powers X-men have evolved alot over the years to the point the main team characters get switched out every year Jessica jones and Luke cage married and rising there daughter this also hasn't been reverted Rouge and gambit are married still

I didn't mind Nick Spencer's Spider-man run while I was reading it. I have since gone back to the JMS run and been reading through that. I think that will always be peak Spider-man comic for me. Damn you Quesada and One More Day.
I bought that recent 'Last Remains' run because I had already bought that single issue #55 with the cool Gleason cover, so figured I might as well get the whole run since it was supposed to be somewhat 'self contained. Trouble is the story wasn't self contained at all, and the art itself was very disappointing. Peter's face went from looking like a 25-30 year old on one page, and then look closer 60 a few panels later... They seem to be putting all the effort into loads of variant covers, while the interior art is a bit rough and rushed. I guess it doesn't matter, since most 'collectors' only care about the cover art anyway, and will have the issue slabbed so they don't have to read it ;)
I gave up on Spider-Man since Aunt May came back to life after the clone saga. Heck since Peter literally said to MJ in a rage, “I’m going to KILL you!!” And Ben took over shortly afterward. They keep losing what made Spider-Man special, Ben was such a refreshing character only to be wasted just like Peter. They keep forgetting what made Ben popular which was that he was old Peter and Peter before Kravens last hunt, they keep making Ben into a villain, which completely alienates the audience each and every time they do this. Thank you for this video, Spider-Man Vs Wolverine is still one of the best Spider-Man stories. And this is also a great story.
Something about old SM stories always gave me a tingle at the end, over the years I feel like this "tingle" has decayed and I just don't care about the stories anymore.
If Spider-man had never met Black Cat before i would've understood him acting like this even if he's already an adult, but Black Cat is his ex and they already hooked up a bunch of times, it makes no sense

The last Spider-Man comic story I read and liked was probably Neil Gaiman’s Spider-Man story in Amazing Fantasy #1000 recalling the Spider-Man comics he used to read as a kid and a meeting he and Jonathan Ross had with Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko. Other than that the Spider-Man comics just don’t do that much for me anymore.
Sometimes, I just want the good guys to stop the bank robbers and get some nice proper take out. Comics aren't fun anymore. Everything is too connected, everything matters, it's exhausting and they're never interesting. The last event I actually like was Heroes Reborn from the recent Avengers series. If you guys feel the same, read Marvels Adventures Spider-Man, starting issue 53. It's about Spidey just being a normal kid and having a mature relationship with his girlfriend. It's cute and fun, and simple. I wish comics wouldn't feel the need to end the world every week. It's not fun anymore
You hit the nail right on its head I felt every word of this I'm tired of everyone and everything being connected Some of the best and most menorable encounters were all sudden but now someone's always related, worked for, used to love or used to spend time and yes its always monotonous. There's also too much mask removal. For SUPERHEROES with SECRET IDENTITIES they sure pull off their masks alot...
They are doing so dirty with Spider-Man in comics rn, and it's pissing me off. This comic book you showcased was unknown to me, so it was so shocked to realize how heavy this comic book story is. Might be No.2 Spider-Man Comic book I ever read, which No.1 is Life Story of Spider-Man. Also shocking cause' it's written by Dan Slott and I never read any good Spider-Man comics from him before.
What frustrates me the most personally besides the whole one more day thing is if they really wanted to try different things with Spider-Man they could have done the separate titles still like spectacular or the other titles that I can't currently remember the name of that were Spider-Man titles like you could have him retire in the main books and then you know have the other ones be different realities or different timelines to me that would make more sense than trying to reboot him over and over again to always be a teenager which makes no sense anymore people like Spider-Man originally because he grew with them and now they took that away and it really just sucks to me personally

Loved this comic , Peter is my spider- man , the part where he says "no one dies" , got me emotional and truly understand what spider man actually stands for. But yeah , I'm waiting to see Peter grow , get married , starting a new life and I wanna see how he still manages to be the Hole of Newyork . How he use his great powers with responsibility.
They wanted to keep Peter relatable and it ironically resulted in him being unrelatable since the people who related to him and his hardship and badluck are now grown up with their own partenr and kids, something the writers don't let Peter have
The irony of all is that Jameson was the financier and accomplice of Spencer Smythe, the father of Alistair and creator of the Spider Slayers, in his attempts to kill Spider-Man. So you can say Jameson deserved it (sort of).
@@CoolOkay_ throwing away what Nick Spencer already done is the stupidest shit they did since One More Day. It won't matter if they brought back Romita JR (one of my fav artist) if the writing is utterly trash.
This is why Spiderman: Life Story is a great comic, because it takes place in a universe where Spiderman One More Day never happened and he actually goes somewhere with the marriage and dies happy leaving behind his legacy.
Yeah, most of comic books are weirdly cynical for some reason right now. It's not just identity politics from both sides that are denting up the comic industry. I feel like videogames are going the same way. It just seems that comic books and videogames are hitting some status quo moving forward problems. I got into videogames for a while and this is also how I feel about certain videogames. The Halo videogame series is starting to make me feel the same way. And it is not right how the fandom writers treat Peter Parker. I'm getting tired of it, and it sucks that there are a lot of cynical artists and programmers out there now.
Spider man: from now on, no one dies (looks heroically in the distance) Two seconds later: literal building explosion killing untold amounts Spider man: I must protect the killer, no one dies! Doesn't this basically just prove him wrong? That he really only saves the villains..
It really is a shame that Spiderman has been turned so dark and gritty. Like I read superhero stories as a way to feel hopeful in some way, and it's why Spiderman has been my favorite since I was little. He is flawed, but still tries to do good, but God damn give him one good day ffs
Spider-Man isn't dark or gritty...he's just MISERABLE. Theres ton of dark and gritty stories with some HEART and SOUL in them...NONE of which modern spiderman has
Don’t mind Spider-man being dark or gritty. In fact it’s that Spider-man I would like to see more of. Was happy it was included in Spider-man ps4. Something I hope will be translate into a tv series. But as someone said here above: Just being miserable, depressing with no hope is not Spider-man at all.
I love Romita’s art but fuck that. I’m just gonna go back and read Mcfarlane’s comics. Those are so grungy and awesome. Also in regard to Spider-Man’s “no kill rule”. I’ve never really seen it as hard and fast. Spider-Man doesn’t go out of his way to beat his villains to death but if something falls on them or they fall he doesn’t stop it unless he HAS to, which I like about the character. Spider-Man is sort of the embodiment of “it is what it is”. If life has a plan, he doesn’t fight it he just goes with it, maybe unwillingly but hey. I don’t care much for when Spider-Man gets made to be a hardcore goody two-shoes boy-scout because he isnt. Him being reduced to that is more of a DC symbolic route, the reason Spider-Man is so awesome is because he is a flawed character that is selfish at times and wants his own way but despite this, trucks on doing what he does.
I don't normally do this but you're categorically wrong - Peter would die to save the worst serial killer in the world if he had to. He's put his life on the line to save Doc Ock, Goblin, Venom, Carnage and more multiple times.
@@SamHarrison2099 and there are plenty of iterations where that “i’d die to save someone” mentality hasn’t been prevalent. I’m also not “categorically wrong” in any fashion and i’ll explain. 1. I never categorised anything so therefore can’t have been categorically wrong. My statement about the character was purely and simply my subjective opinion (arguably objective as I can supply evidence). 2. I spoke of a character who has had multiple iterations over the course of 60 years, so my understanding of the character is supported by a handful of narratives, therefore cannot be wrong. I respect your view of the character of Spider-Man but whilst there are situations where “he would die for a criminal” there are situations where he allowed people or creatures to die. An example off the top of my head, from the same artist by the way is Morlun. Amazing Spiderman #33 (1999) As far as Spider-Man was aware, Morlun was an autonomous, superpowered criminal and during their first fight he allows Morlun to light a room lit with gas on fire, even stating afterwards “Stupid. Thought he’d kill us both, he only got himself”. Not to mention one of the other Morlun fights, Spider-Man eats him and stabs him, albeit this is after he knows what Morlun is but I digress. This was a story in the mainline Amazing Spider-Man canon. Obviously you could argue “but there are other stories where he isnt like this” and that just proves my point further. However you want to view Spider-Man is awesome. He is my favourite literary and fictional character bar none. But I’m not wrong.
Peter is a genius! Why would he still be struggling for money in his 20’s, especially with Johnny as his best pal, or Norman, or just Reed introducing him to a colleague. Oh, Reed could employ him, who could’ve ever thought of that? Pete proves his intelligence to Reed, and that he is a family friend, really part of the family in many runs. Mary Jane and Peter spent 20 years of will they won’t they, can they, after she first called him Tiger, before Marvel finally married them, in a publicity stunt, not matched until Superman finally married Lois, in main continuity . As if he needed another hint.
I think what’s wild is that there are no definitive runs in the modern era of Spider-Man. You look at characters like daredevil, hulk, punisher, ms marvel, X-men, fantastic 4c, and they all have at least one incredible run in the last 20 years that people would call all timers. Spider-Man has a few runs that people are kind of into. People kind of like bendis, they kind of like the superior Spider-Man (though the slot run is divisive as a whole) , the jms run goes off the rails, just not a single completely successful run. It’s insane
Some of those issues you brought up are some my favorites from that time period. But in defense of the current run or just newer era there has been some good things. The whole sin eater story was really good , they somehow managed to make me actually like boomerang and i am kinda interested in dark web because of whats happened with ben rielly.
The biggest problem is that these mfing writers refuse to let Peter actually grow up and actually be happy with Mj, have kids, and become an old man with an actual ending
But if you end it, you can't have Spider-Man stories anymore.

Wally West, even at his worst where he was written as a murderer in a shitty event and despite being missing in the new 52 for 5 years....has had so much better writing and storylines compared to whatever the hell peter has going on now. The current run of wally is how people have been wanting peter to be written for years.
I will never understand how having peter parker married and being a teacher will not make him relatable but him becoming the CEO of a billion dollar corporation and dating super models and ex shield agents and fighting multiversal monsters makes him relatable.

Once, neron sought to separate their love but guess what? They stood strongly together and love prevailed. Hell, years later, wally even had his twins and got a family!!!
Compare that with peter who has had horrible changes made to him by editors and writers in the name of "relatability" but have no fucking idea it means.

This is also a pet peeve of mine with modern marvel comics i feel like they are taking too much from the movies and i think this is one of the reasons why the comics have dipped in quality
@@valletas Norman in the books during Lee/Romita era had some sympathy to him where he tried his best raising Harry on his own after his mother died but he was being tone deaf and kept buying Harry stuff and taking him to ball games but not actually hearing and spending time with Harry sincerely. Also in the movies Norman is "not a good guy" per se, but definitely not pure evil either initially, but he was power hungry.
my problem with modern spiderman is that they try to do the "he picks responsibility over being happy" shtick but in reality, he isn't picking, the world isn't offering him an unfair choice of right and wrong, it is the writers forcefully compressing the world into their ordained path. they alter characters' behaviors, bring out nonsensical elements or even rewrite entire portions of history to get their way.
one more day may have been the start but things like losing parker industry are monuments to the BS that is spiderman's existence now. spiderman is going nowhere and the only thing that develops is the pity we have for a man that can do infinitely better if the rulers of his world weren't so set on beating him into the pavement
I still don't get how the writers of the spectacular spider-man cartoon show understood more about the character than comic book writers. Its simple to do. You just put Peter in believable situations where doing the right thing as spider-man can cause issues for peter parker.

@@henkdachiefikr it's a one-shot story that everybody forgets but spider-man keeps on mentioning it...and i love it for that
It's a real indication of their differences that it seems to have affected Peter more than Logan, or even would've if he'd done it (at least on the surface).
If you want to read Dark Metal, just read Dark Metal 1 onwards. The stories are all linear, it's just that different writers have different ideas of what they want to write, so they make multiple stories. Duh.
@@smitefulaxe1344
you're kind of ignoring the other issue here, changing of writers every new series
and that's not just limited to same characters in different universes,
like what's the point of following that particular iteration of that character, if they end up being changed anyway.
Also, I can kind of dislike the fact that writers at DC and Marvel can't let a character die for too long and sometimes in the same iteration, it really makes the conflicts have zero-tension,
it would've fine, if they were writing slice of life or a comedy series, but superhero comics are usually action-adventure, so there's zero excuse there.
How old is Peter in the current timeline? Is in his mid 30ths? Yet he still acts and being treated as an errand boy.
it's funny because in almost every other form of media besides comics even if Spiderman starts out as something of an errand boy he quickly grows out of it because he's SPIDERMAN and as many heroes and villains clearly point out he's capable of far greater things than he does day-to-day

Bro these Spider-Man comics sound so good but I never know where to start 💀
Legit start from J. Michael Straczynski's run on the character and go from there. Chances are you already know most of what happened before his run through osmosis, and the directions he takes the character are peak spider-man. After civil war is when his run goes down hill, due to editor overreach. Dan slott is pretty controversial, but I think his early stuff like brand new day is fine, and superior spider-man is pretty good too. After superior tho is when the character just spirals and continues to stagnate, so I wouldn't recommend going past that unless you're interested. Obv you probably know ultimate spider-man, but if you don't those I highly recommend as well, gives peter a more modern contextualization.

@@exilestudios9546 Yeah, the branding was a mistake on many levels.
One, he isn't even related to Peter Parker in any way shape or form before his becoming "Spider-Man." Two, the name Spider-Man is so heavily attached to Peter Parker because any other derivatives usually have a different name or are niche enough to not cause confusion.
Also, I've never really read a Miles Morales run, but I've heard many others say that the comics are simply sub-par and that the Spider-verse movie (which is a good movie) basically re-wrote him to be much more distinct.

It's criminal. And I gotta say I feel bad like I feel as if Spider man fans (or at the very least the ones who read the comics) have been getting dicked around now for way too long and I feel like I've been waiting since I discovered the existence of OMD for a massive character growth for Peter not to mention a really great spider man story. And once again I have to move the yardstick again like Nick Spencer's run was good but it never amounted to anything in the end apart from retconning sins past which brought me to the beyond saga and even with the parts I thought were interesting I thought it was alright. Well John Romita Jr is a talented spiderman artist and he's done 2 of my favorite hulk comics of all time surely he.....OH MY GODDDD.
I can't believe I'm this early, keep up the content! I loved the Forget Me Not story!
I'm not saying that the history of Marvel comics should be thrown away but at some point, things just stop making sense and can massively hinder a creators control of the story that they want to tell.
don't feel like reading that but yeah I totally agree
I agree with this immensely. And I also think Moon Knight is another great example for a character who's always been changing for the better. No series of Moon Knight ever feels the same and it thematically works perfectly for him too. His growth and continuity is one of my personal favourites and most intriguing to see, even with the occasional crappy series like the 90's run or the recent Age of Khonshu happenings.

X-men have evolved alot over the years to the point the main team characters get switched out every year
Jessica jones and Luke cage married and rising there daughter this also hasn't been reverted
Rouge and gambit are married still
@@ryice944 yeah that's good to know I mostly ment the characters that are more frequently shown with spider man and by the way in the new spider verse comic they completely erased spider woman from the 616 universe. I think they'll bring her back by the end but I hope they don't keep it like that
@@parsapouyafar1047 oh I was talking about Jessica drew spiderwoman the 616 spiderwoman
They made a whole spider family for her
Her son, niece and brother(and his girlfriend since she got exposed to there family dna)
Granted there up there with the eternals for most dysfunctional family in the marvel universe
I forgot about thor he also changed alot so did jane
And deardevil and his wife
@@ryice944 then I guess they've only done it with peter 😂.
man that dream part gave me chills, I understand why you want more stories like that.
Honestly the premise you described was amazing and the idea of a millennial-type completely destroyed by the system sounds cruel and great.
Less than one minute in and I'm already sad to hear how things had been going for Spiderman lately.🙃
I didn't mind Nick Spencer's Spider-man run while I was reading it. I have since gone back to the JMS run and been reading through that. I think that will always be peak Spider-man comic for me. Damn you Quesada and One More Day.
The biggest problem with modern Spiderman (not just comics, but animated series as well) is that the writers just don't understand the character.
Your right. People if you really want to chat Spider-Man all grown-up. Then look at Spider-Girl. He's a dad in this story and it's still a great read
If Spider-man had never met Black Cat before i would've understood him acting like this even if he's already an adult, but Black Cat is his ex and they already hooked up a bunch of times, it makes no sense
I found your channel maybe 3 days ago? And I’ve damn near watched every video. Especially the Batman and Spider-man vids. I gotta say I love your relax tone while covering these, and your ability to be funny when the moment calls for it and also very deep without coming off to edgy. You have a perfect balance in these things. Thank you for the content bro, I’ll make sure all my nerd friends watch these! 🙌🏼
The last Spider-Man comic story I read and liked was probably Neil Gaiman’s Spider-Man story in Amazing Fantasy #1000 recalling the Spider-Man comics he used to read as a kid and a meeting he and Jonathan Ross had with
Spider-Man co-creator Steve Ditko.
Other than that the Spider-Man comics just don’t do that much for me anymore.
You mean Jonathan Ross. John Stewart is about as far from a comic geek as you can get.
@@DocBruceBanner 😄Corrected, Thanks, Steven Colbert is far more of a comics and fandom geek than Stewart could ever be.
I’m glad doc oc makes UA-cam videos now
Sometimes, I just want the good guys to stop the bank robbers and get some nice proper take out.
You hit the nail right on its head I felt every word of this
I'm tired of everyone and everything being connected
Some of the best and most menorable encounters were all sudden but now someone's always related, worked for, used to love or used to spend time and yes its always monotonous. There's also too much mask removal. For SUPERHEROES with SECRET IDENTITIES they sure pull off their masks alot...
Thank you Disney
Man I started collecting way back on amazimg spider man 346.
Long story short I agree.Spider man used to be absolutely awesome. That's why he had like 5 title's monthly.
Now it's just crap.
Remember when we were kids and we thought being a superhero would be the coolest thing ever? Now we're older and it's a life filled with pain, misery, and sorrow. If I had powers, I'd just live my best life. Travel the world and do things that I'd never do before
Say what you will about Dan Slott he knew how to push the envelope on Spidey Comics
I think his run before Vol 3 was good, the vol 3 and most of vol 4 was not that good
EXACTLY. He was legit the ONLY person who managed to get people TALKING about Spidey comics again
He gave Spider-Man SO MANY GIFTS it was INSANE:
1.Brought back his intelligence:
With all the new and powerful suits and gadgets he
Put him around the level of Tony Stark and Rees Richards in Intelligence
2. Enhanced his skills by giving hin Spider Fu
3. Insane strenght feats to the point thAt Removing Scorpion's Jaw can now be considered ICONIC
Awesome video! I'm going to check out some of those issues! Even though i agree with you, I like how you spent less time complaining and more time talking about something you like. A lot of people spend too much time being negative and I usually turn those videos off
Loved this comic , Peter is my spider- man , the part where he says "no one dies" , got me emotional and truly understand what spider man actually stands for. But yeah , I'm waiting to see Peter grow , get married , starting a new life and I wanna see how he still manages to be the Hole of Newyork . How he use his great powers with responsibility.
This is what Spiderman:Renew Your vows for. I love that comic. İts should be the Canon one.
@@Closed0254 thanks For the suggestion man , loved that too.
They wanted to keep Peter relatable and it ironically resulted in him being unrelatable since the people who related to him and his hardship and badluck are now grown up with their own partenr and kids, something the writers don't let Peter have
As far as I am concerned, the Spider-Man stories ended back in 1998.
The irony of all is that Jameson was the financier and accomplice of Spencer Smythe, the father of Alistair and creator of the Spider Slayers, in his attempts to kill Spider-Man. So you can say Jameson deserved it (sort of).
You should review Marvel's Bizarre Adventures. I recommend Dr. Deth. He appears in #31 and #34. It was supposed to have a movie
This was pretty cool thanks for showing us this
How about we get new writers for spiderman
spiderman gets a new writer every issue, that's why he'll never change.
Yep

@@CoolOkay_ throwing away what Nick Spencer already done is the stupidest shit they did since One More Day. It won't matter if they brought back Romita JR (one of my fav artist) if the writing is utterly trash.
This is why Spiderman: Life Story is a great comic, because it takes place in a universe where Spiderman One More Day never happened and he actually goes somewhere with the marriage and dies happy leaving behind his legacy.
Is it possible there is no more good stories left to tell? I don’t think that’s true but it’s a fear that bubbles inside of me.
Marvel is trying to see how people turn off from purchasing the comic
Yeah, most of comic books are weirdly cynical for some reason right now. It's not just identity politics from both sides that are denting up the comic industry. I feel like videogames are going the same way. It just seems that comic books and videogames are hitting some status quo moving forward problems. I got into videogames for a while and this is also how I feel about certain videogames. The Halo videogame series is starting to make me feel the same way. And it is not right how the fandom writers treat Peter Parker. I'm getting tired of it, and it sucks that there are a lot of cynical artists and programmers out there now.
Spider man: from now on, no one dies (looks heroically in the distance)
Two seconds later: literal building explosion killing untold amounts
Spider man: I must protect the killer, no one dies!
Bro I've been waiting for this
Thank you.
Ouch didn't knew the new spiderman comics went such a meaningless way
Peter lives alone, while Norman is still trapped from the influence of his bad side (goblin).
yes in conclusion they are both stressed
I think what’s wild is that there are no definitive runs in the modern era of Spider-Man. You look at characters like daredevil, hulk, punisher, ms marvel, X-men, fantastic 4c, and they all have at least one incredible run in the last 20 years that people would call all timers. Spider-Man has a few runs that people are kind of into. People kind of like bendis, they kind of like the superior Spider-Man (though the slot run is divisive as a whole) , the jms run goes off the rails, just not a single completely successful run. It’s insane
You had no idea how bad it'd get lol.
It somehow managed to get even worse
@@Mulletman_Comics I can't believe Marvel killed children in their comic book and the two reactions are either "I'm happy" or "I didn't even know."
I'm still at issue 107 from the 1963 comics, it's a long journey.
Some of those issues you brought up are some my favorites from that time period. But in defense of the current run or just newer era there has been some good things. The whole sin eater story was really good , they somehow managed to make me actually like boomerang and i am kinda interested in dark web because of whats happened with ben rielly.
Nick Spencer’s run was pretty good. Then, Beyond pretty much soured everything.
