I head to Liverpool in this video to meet fellow street photographer Matt Hart. Matt was my first influence in street photography, as a beginner it was his photography presentations on the Fujifilm photo stand at the photo show which inspired me to begin my street photography journey!

Its great listening to people that know what they are doing and not harping on about lenses and filters and all that crap! I love being out on the streets with a camera and the challenges that you get from people and yes the nearer to the action the better it is. I do take pictures of anything that catches my eye but I am not to sure about projects though, and at my age I don't really care, I just go out and enjoy the day.
Thank you all for a great 20 minutes or so I enjoyed that!

Isle of Sheppey accent, my neck of the woods, well Sittingbourne which is basically next to there. I have a project in mind, I hope no one steals my idea lol. In my high street we have a church and on the wall are 2 square metal plaques, 1 says London 40 miles, the other says Canterbury 20 miles, I want to take a long exposure of my hand flipping a coin between the plaques, title of the project is London heads, Canterbury tails ( a play on words), my aim is to take similar shots in both London and Canterbury, might take a while but I'm sure I'll do it.

@@chasingvenusfilmarts Thank you, I have had this idea for a couple of years but real life got in the way, I can soon make a start on it, maybe early 2024, I have got more of an idea but it could be a bit dodgy, sticking with the London Heads Canterbury tails theme, I take pictures from behind of people from the waste up in London and waste down in Canterbury in a 16:9 ratio then put them together so the bodies line up. Going to take a bit of research and test runs to find similar locations. That is only an idea atm.

I've survived two brain strokes (Oct 2018 & Jun 2021), and it's really hard to convey to people if you've forgotten a topic or a detail. Most would think one was joking or being rude.
Thanks Matthart for showing us your lovely Photos I love shooting Liverpool. It is a great place for street photography maybe one day in the future I will bump into you in Liverpool.

I I remember his last video where he said he was feeling poorly and then, because I had started following so many other photographers, you included, he kind of fell off my radar screen! For projects, I organize my photos into folders: animals, film crews, cranes, construction, trash treasures, streetart. I may only take one a month in each, but slowly the folders fill up.

I used to travel a lot across NY, PA, OH etc. and took photos on my phone through the windshield, and each trip was a project called the "Dirty Windshield" project NY, OH, or PA.

Went on a workshop with Matt in 2016 with my X100S.
It's a while since I worked Art projects, granted I am not a street photographer.
But previously I've done various projects normally on a 12-24 week time frame.
Spending time planning , researching, test shooting, whether in a Sketch book/Project book, normally around 1/3rd of time then going out to shoot the project, over time.
These days the planning and shooting is done in a much shorter time frame as I am mostly in a studio working with people and it is tailoring the shoot to provide the outcome they want, while still trying to express my style to the images

Yes mate - or just stick to 1 and see it through@@GarethDanks- we have so much to shoot and you probably have a lot of photos that already for a strong project. Just need to dive in a bit deeper and peace it together and then go and shoot the missing pieces
Im starting my project in April 2024 photographing in monochrome " old Glasgow pubs.
Great video. Makes me want to get out there with my X100V right away.
The problem is I live in (very) rural SW France and my favourite "streets" are in Bordeaux, a couple of hours away. I think I'll plan a day out there soon.

PS. My project idea is to take portraits of all the important people in my tiny town. (Mayor, Butcher, Baker ..... etc).
thats a great idea for a project! i would imagine a style or theme to the portraits would be important to the project too?
This year and next is Black and white landscape with a Canon 600D 18x135 lens. It's fun but a challenge.

while i am not a fan of his work, i do enjoy what he has to say, i do think it is important to have projects, and i do think you should be shooting for your self, otherwise you will just burn your self out and give up. I have been shooting for 17 years and yes i will take breaks, but i still love doing it!
I have one project going "Random people on phone". This project helps me start focus on something else than this is a bad day to click the button.
My projects are fire escapes, air conditioners, and tables & chairs on the pavement and bollards.
While you've been talking,
I've seen about twenty shots
for my project.😊

Project idea: images of doors and entranceways, with and/or without people.
Hi: I have two projects on the go: (1) I'm living in rural Manitoba, Canada, with a large Ukrainian pioneer culture therefore every little town has a least 2 Ukrainian churches (Catholic & Orthodox). Many of them are scattered throughout the countryside. I'm shooting them with a Konica slr (b&w) a Konica rangefinder (colour), and an old Olympic tlr (b&w). Lots of work\lots of fun. The second project is using the same procedure only shooting old out of service grain elevators. Once this is done. I want to record 'pre-rubber tired farm equipment

In germany, i have been chased down, but she was a little nuts. It was street festival, and I was just taking photos of crowds doing stuff, but seemed to think I needed permission. no problems.

The video is good but you need to take a back seat and let the guys talk and not talk over them all the time. To me the video is about them not you.
