I know you don't appear to like too much praise, Kevin...but, I have to say this: you are my photographic hero. Your photographs are just brilliant...they are the photographs that I continously try to emulate in my own photographic journey. Thank you. You're my inspiration and I'm so glad that you are. Keep on keeping on...
You're the best wedding photographer I know but this is my first look at your street photography and I'm so impressed. May I say it's more relax and obviously fun and also more creative while still being essential and something you want to leave behind for the future generations. In other words something that matters like all your photography. Thanks for sharing and congratulations. Cheers!
Great video Kevin. I first came across your wedding photography back in the day when I owned the first Fuji X100. Phenomenal imagery. Your street photography is just as inspiring.
I’m studying the masters. This month I’m taking a no credit class on the French Impressionists and post Impressionist painters. I’ve loved them for a while. Recently I’ve seen how many of their paintings are like street photography. Maybe that is why I’m such a big fan. Less than a week for the X100VI announcement. I’m going to preorder. Most "rules" of composition are based on the great work of the Impressionists. The Last Super is often regarded as the bases of well though composition.
Nice clear video Kev. I don’t have the gumption to be a street photographer. Not sure why as I’m an outgoing type of bloke but I just don’t have what it takes. However I thoroughly enjoy your masterful art, be it street or weddings. Regards.
@@kevin_mullins Ah ok cool! I wasn't sure how Lightroom performed on a tablet vs desktop. Looking for a mobile way to edit photos, but don't want to get an iPad. 😁
It depends on what I'm shooting. For Street, I'll often use Zone focusing. Weddings I'll generally use single spot. AV sometimes, but if the light is good, I'll set it to fully manual.
You've again created a beautiful and inspiring video. I photograph with the XT5, an amazing camera. For my assignments (backup camera), I want to have a second camera. The X Pro 2/3 are great and beautiful cameras. I also have the X100V myself. What would be wise to do? Wait for the X Pro 4 to come out, or purchase an X Pro 2 or 3, or maybe go for another XT5? I honestly don't feel a strong connection to the XT series cameras. What would you do? Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure I would wait for the X-Pro4. We have no idea when that will come. And then what.... wait for the X-T5? I'd be more tempted to see what happens to the X100 line. Thanks for the kind words.
Thank you, Kevin. All very useful, respectful, and modest recommendations. I especially like (among many others) your advice on studying the great photographers’ work - not to copy them (that would negate developing a personal style) but to absorb their methods and ways of seeing. Very helpful!
Hey Kevin ! Thank you for the great Inspiration and great Video. Do you take Glow Filters for your Pictures ? All the best from Germany (Dortmund) Markus
Interesting video, for me tip 2 is crucial. We are lucky to live in a society which has the freedom to take photographs in public. But there are an increasing amount of photographers (auditors) using cameras and drones to deliberately annoy and intimidate people to get a reaction for their UA-cam channels. I believe that this may have an impact on our freedoms in the future if it continues or gets worse.
I 100% agree Mark. I hate all of those "I can do what I want in public" videos. They will drive the artform underground - all for the sake of digital vanity.
@@kevin_mullins Yeah, those were the greats back when people did not mind being photographed. Now it is a different scene. C-B's most famous photo was taken from the side, at a distance, so subject was unaware.

First of your vids I have watched. Clear, well paced, informative and enjoyable. And the bonus - no damned muzak overlay.
Thank you!
I need to get out more with my X-E3. Thanks for the tips!
Love your work Kevin and have for years now... It's always a good idea to re-visit rules and tips for this hobby every now and then... Thanks Kevin...
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience, Kevin !! Your education came at the right time for me.
You are very welcome
First time watching your videos, loved it. Do you do workshops in NYC?
I have done in the past, but nothing scheduled at the moment :-(
Kevin, once again you have created valuable content that is very relatable and down to earth. Thank you!

Nice work and great tips. Just wondering what was that neat little laptop you were using in the cafe?
That was a Galaxy Tab :-)
Well spoken words toward respect and the vital role of street photography. Really nice and well thought out tips and advice Kevin.

How do you set autofocus when shooting Fujifilm cameras? And do you use aperture priority mode when shooting weddings and portraits?

Good video. Don't forget to watch YT channels of other Street Photographers. Look at what they do good and wrong and learn.
Thanks for sharing 🎉
Quite right. In fact, tip #8 is all about that. Hope you are well.
Super helpful, thank you. Shoot me a message if you are ever in Sydney and wanting to discover some great photo locations :)

thanks for the tips
No problem!
Have you ever been confronted with negative reactions from people you were photographing? If so, how did you deal with this?
It's never happened to me.
Tip #0 - Don’t put your camera to your face, you may disturb the scene … (it is OK and expected of wedding photographers).
Lol. Tell that to Cartier-Bresson or Joel Meyerowitz.
