Imperial Knowledge Please do some videos about the “animals” of Tamriel. This topic is easy and would be extremely interesting to me and many others. Lots of the animals throughout all elder scrolls games have really interesting lore and or quests that I think would make a great video if you talked about it. 🦀 mudcrabs, imps, deer, hell even sheep, and trolls. know Im a tad bit late, But wouldn't it be more seen as an honour that you were such a great warrior that you were summoned again to battle one more time
Interestingly, a famous and admired orc was a necromancer that claimed to achieve immortality without lichdom (turned out it was just a entire bloodline of orcs with the same name to keep up the illusion).
I once killed Sapphire, i was kinda surprised that no one at Bee and Barb cared at all Whatever As a Conjuration master, i reanimated her and went to Soltsheim with her just to see her father, Glover Mallory I got inside his house and had her killed again, only to reanimate her again Yeah, that wouldn't have been cool... It would've been amazing if the game had special dialogues for this weird situation tho'
Playing as a Dunmer necromancer, and found an interesting book about Dunemeri use of Necromancy in Morrowind. The book's called "Dunmer and Ancestors" and it basically describes the necromantic culture of the Dunmer, like using their ancestor's ghost to guard their homes and offer guidance, or enslaving the souls of those that have wronged them.
Soul of Olaf One-Eye is only in Sovngard, you dont need to have soul in your body to become draugr. Draugrs are set in motion by magic, it's very old magic that nobody know how to use it in current era.
Morality is subjective, Magic, regardless of the school can be used to do “good” or “evil” destruction can slay bloodthirsty warlords, or it can burn down villages, illusion can force a rapist to cower in fear of his victim, or it can make a person lose their sense of reality and experience a fate worse than death, alteration can can turn lead into gold, and that very same gold can be used to purchase slaves or bribe government officials, restoration can heal wounds, or perhaps with sufficient knowledge of restoration, someone may learn how to inflict greater harm to the body, and conjuration may be used to create an army of undead slaves, or to reanimate a bandit who goes on to kill the other bandits in his former gang. Magic is magic, it’s not good or evil, it all depends on how it and the knowledge of it is used and studied.
A wise man once said, "Morality is subjective, Magic, regardless of the school can be used to do “good” or “evil” destruction can slay bloodthirsty warlords, or it can burn down villages, illusion can force a rapist to cower in fear of his victim, or it can make a person lose their sense of reality and experience a fate worse than death, alteration can can turn lead into gold, and that very same gold can be used to purchase slaves or bribe government officials, restoration can heal wounds, or perhaps with sufficient knowledge of restoration, someone may learn how to inflict greater harm to the body, and conjuration may be used to create an army of undead slaves, or to reanimate a bandit who goes on to kill the other bandits in his former gang. @DomusDulcisDomus yeah, because that’s my perspective on good and bad uses of it, but what’s good from my POV isn’t necessarily good from another POV, generally most people agree that killing is bad, but is it ok to kill some people if they deserve it? What did they do to deserve it? Or is killing bad no matter what? Just like in a fantasy world the same argument can be made for necromancy, is it always bad, or would it be more utilitarian to allow the free study of it with some limitations like on any other magical school and even so some would argue that magic itself is bad, there’s no right or wrong, there’s no way to definitively end the argument. There are no rules there is no universal moral compass, we exist in this world for no particular reason, and we make things up as we go along as best as we can forming our own opinions from our experiences.
@DomusDulcisDomus I don’t see how that refutes my argument though, my own moral bias just proves my point that my own bias can conflict with the bias of another person who came to a different conclusion so in the end morality is a man made concept, that doesn’t make it good or bad, it’s just part of being human, much like how flying is part of being a bird, humans who have consciousness and self awareness can sit down, ponder existence and what is good or bad. We came up with it, just because we can.
@@commissar_leon1613 you don't have to define things as good or bad, that isn't part of being human, it's just an easy way for us to describe things. Just saying something is "good" or "bad" inspires you to not think too much about it and use your own bias to fill in the blanks by what they are saying, so in other words it doesn't really exist. There are just things that people will do that benefits themselves or others, or things that hurt themselves or others. Things you like, and not like. Good and bad are just placement words for this, they are not "part of being a human".
One of my most well-intentioned characters was a necromancer. He tended only to raise from death hose who have trespassed against him or others for significant periods of time, as a legion of the damned. The plan being to make them serve Tamriel for a period to pay off their debts. He also had a habit of temporarily raising people's victims for karmic retribution, and allying himself with more "thought-capable" undead, like the unfortunate prisoners of the Soul Cairn. By contrast, my most wicked character was an archer who basically acted as a domestic terrorist, mostly but not solely, in Imperial holdings, and eventually a serial killer for the Dark Brotherhood.
@@Randomdudefromtheinternet As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. I'm honored to have provided inspiration and I hope your game goes well.
Bretons always have the best takes on everything. They’re technically down with necromancy in a practical sense but culturally have a system in place to keep it from being a problem. Best race on Tamriel, they just want to do magic and go on quests.
I really wish you could become a lich in vanilla skyrim because other than that summoning daedra kind of beats raising corpses. I mean the soul cairn necromancy spells are cool it is still is disappointing that you cant go that far into necromancy that you become one of the most powerful types of undead in Mundus
I think the reason the player can harm ghosts in Skyrim instead of the other games is because you are a Dragonborn with alot of power. You can pick and use Keening without dieing or some other weird thing happening.
Necromancy is basically enslavement of the soul. If you're okay with physical slavery then sure, necromancy is okay. Mos people aren't okay with slavery, though. So there you have it. The reason why King Olaf appears in Sovngarde is probably just an oversight on Bethesda's part. They wanted to make him appear in Sovngarde, yet didn't for whatever reason make a script to check whether you have destroyed his draugr form or not. There's also the controversy that he shouldn't be in Sovngarde at all since he wasn't an honourable nord and he used unfair tricks to win battles and gain power. Depends on who you believe, so who knows.
That's true, but I'm guessing there is some kind of reason why the option to slander him is there at all. And also the Burning of King Olaf. Seems like Solitude really doesn't care much for him. Or it could just be the the Bards' College. But everyone in town seems happy to attend.
But don't forget friend, my savior could be your tyrant. If he fought against Solitude, I'm assuming there's still a lot of hate for him in the entire region of Haafingar. Which would be a large part of Skyrim's population.

After binge watching a lot of your videos the better part of the last 8 hours, I must say I'm glad I found your channel. I've been learning a lot I had forgotten over the years about the lore. I look forward to your next upload.
I always figured there was a separation of the mind and soul and the undead had no souls. This is why they only groan and can barely speak. Their mind is rotting away, but it's still present enough for them to act autonomously.
17:41 yeah I kinda liked the feeling of ‘oh no my *normal* weapons are going right through this ghost. I better pull out my back up *silver sword* ’ . Especially if it’s your first time fighting a ghost and you have no silver sword lol. You’re like oh crap and it’s a fun little feeling to have. I just feel like a ghost fight should feel like a ghost fight.
For me, the case of Olaf is simple - he's been dead so long that his soul is now completely removed from his body - so the body you fight is like a robot you repair, then format the HDD before installing a new O.S. I'd theorise that until they gain entry to their afterlife (Like passing Tsun's test) then their soul is still connected to their body. Whereas once they have entered the afterlife then their body is an empty vessel for you to insert your own pseudo-soul to control the body (Would help partially explain why some are still connected to their body for longer than others). I'd say the morals of it being o.k to take control of someone who's soul is no longer connected to their body, although it'd be tactless to do it in front of the body's loved ones :C But the real issue would be whether Bethesda will ever clarify the canon of it :S
Love your videos! Very well thought out and planned. And great work with your collaborations and giving credit where it is due. Keep up the great work!!
Necromancy is an amazing art with a absolute ton of potential I think the issue lies in with how easily the irresponsible can get a hold of power with it. I think empire sponsored necromancers using their abilities to take command of, and free the unwilling undead of Tamriel could be a good thing, granted built on the back of the existing evil. Besides that it could be handy in places with large existing undead populations like Skyrim. Well, assuming they can assert control over the dead at least.
I play as a "good" lich in skyrim. I only reanimate evil characters and I make them fight for me on the side of good. They were evil in life, but they can repent in death. One day my undead army will face Alduin again when he inevitably returns. Those who would become tyrants or other evil doers for the ages to come will join my horde.
Nobody cares about bandits, vampires, or dremora. Nobody has to know I trapped someone's soul in a black soul gem. And if a dead body stands up and fights for me well... It means I don't have to get my hands dirty.
Fun fact revealed in the summerset expansion of eso. The orcish magister who defended necromancy can met on the isle of artaum as she was a member of the psygic order however she was kicked out due to her rebellious nature.
You forgot to mention flesh magic necromancy. It's a form of golem creation using a deadric essence or soul to power the flesh golem. This is seen in oblivions shivering isles dlc
My favorite characters I play have all been necromancers. I wish we still had the Necromancer's Moon ritual tables in Skyrim as they had in Oblivion, but alas I shall worship my God of Worms by doing what I do best... raise powerful undead and wish that Serana would find something better than a skeever to raise.
I would argue that illusion is actually more evil than necromancy. With necromancy most people don’t like it sure but I’ve just got my DEAD big ugly orc bandit chief folding my linens. Nothing wrong with that right? Only thing that’s gonna come up is maybe a smell as he decays but nobody else is gonna complain, vs if I take that same brute, give him the same chores, but dominate his mind and his will rather than just kill him and reanimate his flesh? If given the option in his position I’ll take being reanimated personally
I've only played Skyrim so far & I find the thought of tormenting the dead repulsive; also unnecessary seeing how the game is quite easy even at legendary setting. I do however trap black souls (I believe that falls within the definition of necromancy?), but only those of other necromacers & Thalmor scum lol.
4:16 There's actually 3. You forgot about Selveni Netri, located in Southfringe Sanctum. Technically, she's coded as combat conjurer, but if asked if she's a necromancer, she responds, "I am, and I don't want to hear your moral judgments about it, either. I wouldn't have had to study in secret in the old days." I would also count Serana as a necromancer, but I assume you're only referring to the base game without dlcs.
You also have Sibyl Stentor (court mage in Solitude) who is a friendly vampire and thus a necromancer. Nocturnal might also be considered a necromancer as she uses the souls of the dead Nightingales as guardians, although she's a Deadric Prince so, might not count as she isn't, or ever was, mortal.
from what I can tell, raising zombies and skeletons just binds a daedra to the corpse to puppet it for the necromancer, while raising an incorporeal undead like a ghost binds the deceased soul to the necromancers will... not sure about draugr... So Id say zombies and skeletons arent inherently evil but binding unwilling spirits is inherently evil.
It's funny how you mention that it seems most evil characters that people make are necromancers, but my current evil character is not a necromancer, but a warlock who summons daedra as minions instead. That's not to say he can't reanimate something if he for some reason needed to, but he finds the conjuring of daedra to be much more efficient and makes pacts to summon all kinds of them and worships the daedra lords that provide the strongest daedra, like Mehrunes Dagon, Molag Bal, and Sheogorath. I'm using the Daedric Entity Restoration Project, so he started with Flame Atronachs and Hernes, currently prefers daedroths and Knights of Order or Aurorans at the level he's currently at, and will of course eventually upgrade to dremora and storm atronachs at expert level and then later golden saints and xivillai at master level. There would be an interesting video topic too, if it hasn't been done already. We've covered the necromancers, but what about daedra summoners and daedra worshippers? They were never viewed in a particularly good light, but they have got to be having tough times convincing anybody that what they are doing is morally okay after the Oblivion Crisis. That or a video about the lesser daedra, as they don't seem to get as much attention as the princes in lore videos.
I don't mind necromancy and I like to use it a lot. Necromancy as a morbid art definitely attracts a lot of evil, morally unhinged people, but it doesn't mean it can't be used for good things. I don't care for suffering of all of those bandits who I reanimated as undead to fight for me, neither any enemy who tried to attack me. They deserve it anyway. Besides, I doubt that a soul of a thousand year old skeleton would really feel anything if their skeleton is being used by a necromancer considering what I heard in this video about soul's grip on their corps decreases over years.
I honestly use necromancy in my arcane warrior build, my mindset being like the Mortalitasi in Dragon Age Inquisition. I give the souls of my fallen companions the chance to avenge their deaths and gain one last moment for glory and honor. A chance to not "lose", in a sense.
I view it has evil but then again that most likely has something to do with my hatred of the undead being on par with Merida or surpassing Meridas hatred
Technically necromancy wasn’t made illegal by the mages guild, but banned from their specific schools and the teaching and spreading of necromantic arts. But cryrodil as a while did NOT have any laws against it
Dead thrall uhhhh, dread zombie, uhhhhhh, raise zombie, uhhhh, reanimate corpse, uhhhh. Uhhhhh. I like it when they say it, they're suffering and I love that
I think the reason that you weren't able to harm ghosts with normal weapons in games before Skyrim was because they were taking some inspiration from D&D rules, in D&D, some monsters such as ghosts and werewolves can only be harmed by spells, magical weapons, or in the case of werewolves, weapons coated with silver. Elder Scrolls originated out of the developer's D&D 3.5e games back when they were making Arena and Daggerfall. When it came time to make Skyrim, I think they had simply forgotten the origins of this and just decided that they wouldn't want to annoy players by having enemies that can't be attacked.
So you think necromancy is inherently evil? Like would bringing back someone who was known to cause misery in life and use their body to protect innocents, would it be a good or at least gray area?
Just wondering did you use information from a series of books in the elder scrolls 3 morrowind ? I believe that it was a 3 volume collection on how to prepare bodies for necromancy
Its neither good or evil and since its magic Magnus could use it and he's a ancient eternal spirit plus more evil has been done by daedra summoning anyway like camoran the usurper use undead and daedra the oblivion crisis even eso its technically a daedra invasion not a necromancy invasion
In the words of fudgemuppet, “slaughtering a mammoth, just to enchant a pair of pants isn’t very nice is it?” Now I personally don’t think necromancy is “evil” in the truest sense of the word, but it certainly isn’t pleasant. My opinion, it’s a necessity for the advancement of magic, but it’s not a pleasant experience for the experiment subjects
lich is pronounced like ditch, although it comes from the same root as the word "like" meaning form or body (hence "likeness"). Actually, ditch and dike also share a common root from the same era, and their pronunciation diverged in the exact same regional manner.

Nobody cares about bandits, vampires, or dremora. Nobody has to know I trapped someone's soul in a black soul gem. And if a dead body stands up and fights for me well... It means I don't have to get my hands dirty.
It doesn't matter if it's good or evil. It's your power. How you choose to use it is up to you.
Fun fact revealed in the summerset expansion of eso. The orcish magister who defended necromancy can met on the isle of artaum as she was a member of the psygic order however she was kicked out due to her rebellious nature.
it is fun to use the ritual stone power to use armies of undead to clear dungeons for me.
I am starting to think that the end of january will not be easy to do.
Excited for that Falion video
You forgot to mention flesh magic necromancy. It's a form of golem creation using a deadric essence or soul to power the flesh golem. This is seen in oblivions shivering isles dlc
Sure, I'd reanimate a dude to help me steal his stuff. I'd also do it for good reasons.
i think its cooler than other magic, because of all the stuff you do with it.
In eso there's a ult skill called reanimate where u can ether mass revive ur team or raise blast skeletons to attack ....sooooooooo
Necromancy in Elder Scrolls: *sleep*
Necromancy in Diablo: *BIG WAKE*
You skipped over the Khajiit. Do they have any specific rules regarding necromancy?
I've only played Skyrim so far & I find the thought of tormenting the dead repulsive; also unnecessary seeing how the game is quite easy even at legendary setting. I do however trap black souls (I believe that falls within the definition of necromancy?), but only those of other necromacers & Thalmor scum lol.
Maybe Skyrims steel and other ores are contaminated with ebon.
i love necromancy in skyrim its fun
Def a necessary art. Only way to win is to fight fire with fire
Ugh… the zombies in oblivion were always particularly disgusting to me, lol
Breaking into someones house and killing them just to have them help you steal their stuff isn't good its the absolute best
Hellou yuuduub gotta love that start 😂 But great video man! 👍
Damn the wyrm king lol
What is the Dark Brotherhood´s stance on Necromancy? Taking souls away from Sithis could be...unwanted
Considering they usually have skellingtons guarding their hideout? It's probably fine.
fucking love that intro
Magister is Latin for master, just a cool FYI
I honestly use necromancy in my arcane warrior build, my mindset being like the Mortalitasi in Dragon Age Inquisition. I give the souls of my fallen companions the chance to avenge their deaths and gain one last moment for glory and honor. A chance to not "lose", in a sense.
Loved the video, been getting hooked on your channel. Keep up the good work.
Thanks! Since your profile picture I can highly recommend my video on the genetics of the races!
For answers regarding Draugr, you can turn to Norse mythology for your source of information.
In elder scrolls necromancy could be used for good a specaily when killing a bad guys like Nazzem exectra exectra.
I view it has evil but then again that most likely has something to do with my hatred of the undead being on par with Merida or surpassing Meridas hatred
Necromancy is no more evil than throwing a fireball at someone.
Next film about oblivion realms please ;)
we can do Bethesda a favor and say the oblivion crisis disrupted things and caused ghosts to be able to be harmed by conventional weapons.
Technically necromancy wasn’t made illegal by the mages guild, but banned from their specific schools and the teaching and spreading of necromantic arts. But cryrodil as a while did NOT have any laws against it
You can also run into several lich in Morrowind.
Dead thrall uhhhh, dread zombie, uhhhhhh, raise zombie, uhhhh, reanimate corpse, uhhhh. Uhhhhh. I like it when they say it, they're suffering and I love that
🤔😊😛🤗🤗☺️😊😉🤗😌
I like your idea, sneak in, stab a dude, & make him carry his own stuff back to your lair 😂😂😂😂😂
mods fix the killing ghosts with regular weapons.
Do vampires
10:51 - he fucking said it
Just wondering did you use information from a series of books in the elder scrolls 3 morrowind ? I believe that it was a 3 volume collection on how to prepare bodies for necromancy
are the khajiit missing or am i a brain dead idiot with the memory of the goldfish?
Its neither good or evil and since its magic Magnus could use it and he's a ancient eternal spirit plus more evil has been done by daedra summoning anyway like camoran the usurper use undead and daedra the oblivion crisis even eso its technically a daedra invasion not a necromancy invasion
I only use necromancy just so I can kill them again so they will rest and won't be bothered in the future.
Did the Falion video never happen or am I just not finding it?
It seems not, I completely forgot about that. May do something about it soon ish
@@ImperialKnowledge 👀
Gotta be your longest video
And how do the Khajiit view Necromacy? Did you forget about them😅
Necromancy can be used for healing.
Since it can be used to "resurrect" things, the necromancer can resurrect the dead cells to repair
What about the Khajit
What about the Sload? ;)
Coralll!
Olaf 1 eye can easily be explained...Emil writing not having connection between story lines
Azura
Wait what about your character in eso manimarco tells you he raised you at the end of the story so which one are you?
1 person was a priest of Arkay.
Sload?
Dark gray maybe xD
Serana and her mother are also necromancers
In the words of fudgemuppet, “slaughtering a mammoth, just to enchant a pair of pants isn’t very nice is it?” Now I personally don’t think necromancy is “evil” in the truest sense of the word, but it certainly isn’t pleasant. My opinion, it’s a necessity for the advancement of magic, but it’s not a pleasant experience for the experiment subjects
Why was the mages guild disbanded?
You have that “dutch” accent hahaha hard to mistake.
lich is pronounced like ditch, although it comes from the same root as the word "like" meaning form or body (hence "likeness"). Actually, ditch and dike also share a common root from the same era, and their pronunciation diverged in the exact same regional manner.
Necromancy is good only on sarturdays and with cake.
FudgeMummet has already done video of Falion. Check that out and if you can bring more insight of that character then make that video.
I usually don't watch other people's videos, because I want my content to be entirely my own and otherwise I would unconsciously copy things
I see. I just mentioned that if you didn't know that there is a video of Falion already.
