** Can I donate a whisk(e)y for you to review in The Whisk(e)y Vault?
Of course! If you’re interested in making a tax deductible donation towards our whiskey selection, head on over to:
austinwhiskyvault.com/whisky-d...
** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

OMG! Best intro of all time! I don't think that can be topped. Rex dancing to Pixies with a ginormous glass of whiskey is pure artistic flare. I love this channel! #RexInfinity
laplantski That's pretty good.
I'm sure laws were broken with that dancing 😂
Had to watch the intro a second time after the video ended.
Pirate Bear Because it didn't make you feel dirty enough the first time round :)
It was magical.
Hi! I’m marco, 20 years old (legal drinking age in Europe) Italian engineering student from Milano, I discovered your channel because of the pewds video and I’ve been watching your videos since then! Last week I bought my first bottle of whisky (Glenfiddich 12) because of you guys! I’m loving every sip of it and I want to thank you so much for having me introduced to this awesome experience , I had always thought whiskies were something made just for despicable elderly grandpas, now I know how wrong was I.
Keep it up with the passion and good work you put in your videos, because it is what has got someone like me from the other side of the globe interested in this money-draining, heart-warming habit!
Next time I’ll go drinking I’ll probably order an Highland Park instead of a mojito.
I’m also planning to send you an Italian spirit soon!
May your crazy stay this side of legal, and may you return before I have time to miss you, ciao!
Rex is gonna mooch some Italian grappa
Glad you're here!
I love the face Daniel makes the second he hears Rex say “I want the most expensive....” hahahaha pure gold
when I saw Rex' Face 11 seconds in, my mind started playing Megadeth's "Synphonie of destruction"......
You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch people's heads a'roll
A'roll, a' roll
OMG I haven't heard that song for ages... And you're totally right - fits the situation just perfectly!!!!
glad to see Megadeth fan here ...
On the second watch, we're finding the line between Rex appeal, and Rexual harassment.
Remaking expensive whiskeys is actually an awesome idea. I am legitimatly eagerly awating every episode! Rex gets at least 1.... make it 3, additional weeks for being so thoughtful of us viewers.
Drunk Rex is the best Rex.
2 years later and we now know this is just Rex sober or drunk LOL
REX WEEK! Best intro in 200 episodes! I am so happy that I subscribed before the sign tapped out at 3 minutes in.
The Dawn of the REXade!
Hilarious....i thought Halloween was over. Whatching Rex dance and do pelvic thrusts was absolutely horrifying. Thanks for the fight club reference however.
We were so preoccupied on if we could, we never stopped to think if we should. #Rexweek
totally
I think the power of running the new channel is going to Rex’s head... I love it I love these blends because you learn a lot about the concentration of flavors in the different Whiskeys
That intro was ON POINT MAN WTF REXWEEK EVERY WEEK
26 year old bartender from edinburgh. Have been in many bars over the years from working to drinking and would actually love to sit and have a dram and a chat with you guys in your vault :) , whisky heaven. The exact non pretentious whisk(e)y drinkers we all love to serve in a bar :)
And Rex Week has officially begun. The Rex dance intro made the episode. May many more Rex-filled episodes grace my screen.
A well deserved episode(especially the intro) for the lovely laphroaig 32yr.
I love both of you guys I'm learning so much and think the whiskey vault is amazing , thanks for your great and informational videos
Even the sign knows this was a mistake...keep it up guys, love the blending!
I love this concept. I've never felt empowered to blend my own whisky, but why not!
Rex. You have a head for radio. Gonna take years to get over that intro.
When i look at that Laphroaig 32 and how much is left, i wonder i think of all the bottles who just sit with a lot of air in the bottle, and i wonder how are they not going bad
Best barley tea ever?
Who knew Rex was cool enough to play the Pixies. Rex, you just moved up a notch on my cool scale......that puts you at notch 1!
Why am I always watching these in the morning? And this intro already makes me feel like a bad night is coming on.
Rex had a menacing sparking in his eyes. No one mooch should have this much power... I am afraid for the vault.
Greatest use of a song in the intro ever!
fantastic episode - make this hobby so much more fun!!!
You guys are awesome, and god damnit that intro was fabulous!
Fantastic intro and good episode Rex! I can't wait to try to make these blends that y'all come up with. I do admit I feel bad for Daniel, but I know I'm going to enjoy #Rexweek/month.
Great episode, I think Laphroaig 10 has been my favorite so far
That intro though. 10/10
Wow Rex year has kicked off to a great start! Can't wait for the next 11 and half months!
We need more Rex weeks! One per month should be a good starting point.
You must do it for the people!
Hard to believe I haven't found ya'll before now. Freaking brilliant.
Thanks for the kind words! Dig your reviews as well
Looked forward to the start of Rex Week Finally here.
Saw this bottle at the fanciest liquor store in Springfield Missouri. Would be nice, but this Rex-blend is much friendlier on my wallet and to my wife!
that's our goal! Saving marriages one episode at a time.
We’re you the other Missouri comment? I’m in NWA so if you ever make the drive you can mooch off me
I really enjoy these videos. I am not a great drinker but i do enjoy a good one and love the history
you guys need to do some more of these! these are awesome!
Its amazing to me that what you guys call a $30 bottle in the US is a $95 bottle here in Canada. Just discovered your channel and am loving it. Keep up the great work.
Holly shit that was so funny. The intro was amazing playing the Pixies bro!
Best opening so far!
Awesome and actually educational
9:58 The most hilarious 20 seconds you'll hear all day
Great episode. I need to somehow try the 32. New life goal
Thanks for the vid reply guys! My plan has already started to return dividends. I had friends over for the UFC fights and 4 of them brought bottles of scotch for all to try. The first brought Lefroig 10, 2nd HP 12, 3rd brought Glenfiddich 12 and lastly a bottle of Talisker 10. As they are pretty new to Scotch most of my bottle of monkey shoulder and a 3rd of the bottle of HP 12 were consumed. But the Smokey whisky (which is my favorite) and the rest were left at my house. I am now sipping on Talisker and contemplating phase 2 of my sinister plan.
Thanks for the inspiration Rex!
Mooches can win in the end.
#rexyear!
Will be trying this, love these videos guys.
Please tell me Daniel has a safe word
thetaish if I remember correctly from a ton of episodes ago... Its Margaret Thatcher.
Chiles Martial Arts I'm pretty sure that's right
Let's speculate what that word would be.
Bruichladdich
Heard it’s pineapple
Well done Rex!
I really appreciated that Fight Club reference at the start 😂
Finally! A decent sized pour in to that Glencairn during the intro.
Maxims of Mooching
1.) Mooching is not solely about taking, sometimes it's about paying forward your fortune to your fellow moochers.
2.) Thou shalt always take whisk[e]y when whiskey is offered, and if whiskey was not offered, yet present, trick, or tease, it from the person(s) being mooched.
3.) Mooches shall never cross the line from mooching to malicious scamming, stealing, nor any other nefarious forms of mooching. (Unless it's from Daniel, and then Grandmaster Mooch Supreme has final word)
4.) Thou shall not give, nor purchase liquor for another person, except in the most important of occasions for those closest to you.*
5.) When called on one's mooching one, with pride and plume, will agree and decree that you indeed are a mooch and then will toast with your mooched beverage of choice.
6.) When meeting Grandmaster Mooch Supreme, here on known as Rex, is the only acceptable time, outside of the aforementioned exemptions, one mooch can purchase whisk[e]y for another without fear of demerits.
7.) You gain _____ number of levels [to be determined by Rex] per ounce** times the type, rarity, and most importantly personal taste of whisk[e]y being mooched.
* marriage, birth of child, and for their funeral are the only exemption. Or to prime friends/family who are non whiskey drinkers for your own future mooching
**(mL I believe for our brethren across yon pond)
That's a grrreat episode!
Rex is busting the moves out. #rexweek
That intro! 👏
Yay new episode
opening was effing amazing obviously
It was rewarding watching this video
Any Fight Club reference makes me like a video; this awesome of a Fight Club reference makes me love it.
I got a taste of the Octomore 08.1 on Friday. It had kippery notes with hints of nori (seaweed). One of the other tasters and I joked it was the sushi of Scotch :-)
Tried Laphroag for the first time this weekend at a restaurant...as soon as the waiter delivered it my wife's reaction was "oh my god! It smells like a campfire in here!!!" Not sure if I am a fan of it yet but I couldn't stop thinking about it all night!!
best intro by far we got a mooch pixies and a hobit
Damn Daniel cant wait to try your future blended scotches.
Rex week has started off with an interesting bang
This is going to be such a fun month. I'm gitty with anticipation.
William Poppe. Week dammit.
Christopher P oh I sure hope this last longer than a week. Don't get me wrong, Daniel and his words of wisdom and science are the reason I came to this chanel and the reason I will stay forever. But I'll be dammed if that wasn't their best video to date.
The fact that Daniel is actually in pain getting whiskey is funny as hell
During that intro i was so afraid you were gonna blow up all those bottles
I actually like the blend idea
Ooo the Pixies ^-^
Happy Rex week everyone.
Merry #Rexmas and happy #MoochYear !
The intro made my day
So I finally tried the smoky coke and I’ll be damned if it wasn’t magnificent! I waited until I was down to my last few pours of my precious, precious Laphroaig. I feel Ike a freaking Philistine but it’s crazy how good it is.
When did whiskey biscuits come to this channel?
We have officially entered the Outer Limits...#TheRexZone
I read this and about spit out the coffee i was drinking .
scouterryan thank you I thought it was fairly funny
Awesome ep! lol
Rex dancing=like!!
Delmore 12 is the only one of those iv had and really liked it
I freaking love Rex.😂😁
Intro is the shit! I love that song 😂😂🤘🏼
I treated myself to a bottle of Laphroaig Lore this weekend and had about the same reaction. First sniff was so good and took completely by surprise. All I could say was "Oh my". Haha. Can't even imagine what that 32yo is like. If I could find Brenne I'd try the blend.
The Lore is far better.
Is that due to your preference for smokey/peaty over sweet sherry whisky? Or is Lore just better? I've heard super long aging kills the peat notes too so I'm sure the 32 is just a barrel heavy sherry bomb. If that's the case, I'd prob prefer Lore too. But I wouldn't say no to a dram of the 32yo either. ;)
Best Intro youtube ever ! woohooo Rex week
happy rex month
how often do distillers have to taste their barrels?
I mean 32 years sat in wood. wow. the babying, the care, the planning it takes to make a 32 year whisky!
wow, that is passion.
hilarious + what a vocation, oh the envy :D
V amused watching Rex go off the reservation.
You can get that seaweed in Costco around here ( SoCal).
What a great book *intro*
Every time a mooch gets a drink an angel gets it's wings?
The train has left the rails, it has become something else...More Monstrous...
1/2 Laphroaig 10
Dash of Brin
Dash of Dalmore 12
Dash of Glendronach 12
Dash of Aberlour 12
Daniel. I'm so sorry. (for you)
best music intro.....
I have no idea what that 32 tastes like but I have added Glenfarclas 12 to Laphroaig Quarter Cask and liked it quite a bit.
how many first rules of rex week are there lol
lovin it btw i keep going back to these
I loved the Ground Rules part!!! "You're out of bound because you said "Yes But", The correct answer is "Yes Sir" "
And thus, the Rexening begins.... God save us all.
Poor Daniel looks so defeated, a toast to his health and welfare during these hard times. #RexWeek #RexMonth #Rexening #Rexageddon
Oh and yes in Italy when you order a whisky they have no clear idea of what they are doing usually so they take a regular water glass or fancy glass and fill it half...usually i have a freaking bucket of whisky for like 6€...
Merry Rexmas
Belfry I love it Merry Rexmas
Poor poor Daniel we feel your pain
Shouldnt the first rule of Rex week be, "Don't talk about how long rex week lasts"?
oh shit, thats my jam!
Long live #RexWeek
HAPPY REX MONTH EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As a public service announcement..... In ITALY, ALLL night clubs work this way. The bartenders are more model then mixologist... go to any club, and enjoy... best part is the hangover food the next day... just better then anything ever!!!
