** What's with the necklaces?
Rex is a whiskey mooch. His necklace is a manifestation of pure glory - forged from the irradiated bones of eagles and wolves. Also a tube sock.
See the origin story here: goo.gl/JMc2Hr
Daniel is a whiskey sommelier. His necklace is a token of his sommelier level, and he trains whiskey sommeliers at The Whisk(e)y Marketing School in Austin Texas.
**A Whisk(e)y school?
Yup. Here are a few things we believe.
** You don’t have to be a snob to appreciate and love great whiskey.
Whisky and Whiskey (it depends on where it’s from) have been an important part of cultures around the world from time immemorial. Whiskey is a part of the very fabric of Western society, and in most places, is as common and accessible as beer.
Like Jazz and wine, snobs have predictably hijacked whiskey appreciation, spoiling our natural, common connection with it and creating a false dichotomy of “good whiskey” and “bad whiskey.”
It’s time to break through the emotional bias with facts and science. That’s what this school is about.
** The only valid definition of “good” whiskey is “whiskey you like to drink.”
Learning how to share your love of whiskey in a way that connects people to the history and the story has more to do with public speaking and storytelling than it does with facts and tests.
The best way to learn about whiskey and share that love is to drink whiskey and talk about it with friends. Study the history, find the stories, and discover the culture and the methods that have been developed over hundreds of years. That’s what you’ll do when you attend The Whisk(e)y Marketing School.
** You don’t need a marketing degree to learn how to share your love of whiskey with the world.
There's an old saying, "In business, it's not what you know... It's who you know."
Regardless the industry you're in, most people are clumsy and ineffective when it comes to "networking" because they ignore a very important rule - Relationship First, Business Second.
There's a tremendous amount of curiosity about Whisk(e)y today. It's a great excuse for you to gather a group of people who want to have fun and learn something new. The Whisk(e)y School teaches you how to tap into that curiosity, and share your love of whisk(e)y in an unpretentious way. You're demonstrating knowledge, expertise, and an engaging personality - things valued by every gatekeeper, in every industry.
Or would you rather hand out business cards and cross your fingers?

Stay in power Daniel. Rex has nothing on you and your somm greatness. The tribe stands with you, Daniel.
yeeeeeee
Daniel should just stay ahead of the curve by pre-emptively making a poor man's blend of the most expensive whiskey they have, and then pouring it into the bottle of said whiskey and use that for the next blending episode. Daniel saves the whiskey, Rex won't tell the difference and we all end up with the same blend anyways, win-win-win!
It would be really interesting to see how close Rex says Daniel was able to get in this scenario, as well.
Good idea for a test.
HAHAHA!! Gots ta keep dat mooch in check! Well played Daniel!!
William Nash Somm put his foot down. He was like noooo bi..mooch.
yeeeeeeeee
These blend videos are my favourite. Even though I never check if they actually work, I'm always highly entertained
While the 1815 would be nice, I'd be happy with a Poor Man's Blend of Dark Cove, since it's impossible to find!
In addition to the lack of availability, Daniel has gone on recore of saying the Dark Cove is consistently his favorite Ardbeg! I second the Poor Man's Dark Cove. (Perhaps with a Poor Man's Laphroaig Lore to satisfy the Mooch.)
Unfortunately Daniel would tell you to buy Laphroaig Lore.. Cause apparently he doesn't remember what Dark Cove tastes like....
Not sure they have a bottle of dark cove to do that with. I thought they had finished their bottle.
@@joshuafetter3831 I think I remember them not having the Dark Cove for the Ardbeg episode last week.....
The SOMM is.. and will always be...
The strongest!!
Ooooo... more poor-man's versions!!!
Daniel, very nicely done. Black Art is a perfect example, the wanna-be mooch's whining notwithstanding.
Keep up the good work, Somm... keep resisting the dark mooch.
yeeeeeee
I side with Daniel on this one. Rex abused his voice of the people and should get an official reprimand for doing so.
Rex should be forced to drink Jw red while Daniel is drinking redbreast 32
He should have to drink the most rot-gut, harsh, cheap whiskey Daniel can find for a week.
@@CorySticha how about premixed jack and colas?
@Andrew That would be a good start.
@@rambo9997 Oh, that is brutal!
Ironically, it is actually easier for me to get the 1990 version of the Bruichladdich Black Art then it is to get the Glendronach cask strength...
BOO FORMAL REPRIMAND! Rex totally harshed a potentially REALLY fun episode. It's worse than Daniel getting all moody over the "HEY, LET'S MAKE A BLEND!" episode.
Legit ruined this episode. Acting like a spoiled kid screaming in the toy aisle
"There is almost nothing left"
Sounds like one more reason to keep alive its glory!
The mooch is king, but these sommie powers of blending are amazing to watch.
I like how the shelf in the back that used to be a whiskey glass shelf is slowly turning into just whiskey.
I'm so torn... I'd love a poor man's 1815.. But I also secretly hoping to get another taste of the real thing.. Damn
Also no toast.. Negative marks for both of you
Christina Zirpoli maybe Daniel can do it off memory. That seems a fitting punishment and also reward to us. Yes. Only smelling allowed.
HAHA! When Rex entered frame at 3:20. I cackled. Made my morning
Thank you for moving the release time sooner
Good job on protecting the vault in this dire time Daniel
Actually just stumbled across a bottle of that this weekend... Yes, the 1990, 23year :D
Complex, nuanced, rounded-off flatness. I know what that is...
Comments are harsh! Dang people, this is a show, Rex and Daniel are obviously good friends and it’s rex month. Take it easy and just let them do what they do.
Hey Daniel and Rex, love your show. Started watching about 2.5 weeks ago and am probably through 70% of your videos. Ive also started watching the whiskey tribe channel, learning a lot from there too. Im a freshman in college so my ability to expand my collection is limited but i started it with a glendronach 12 and love it. Thanks for being so engaging and inspiring.
Ps- do you all have a bottle of glenmorangie a midwinter night's dram you could review?
I could swear that BA 4.1 has a component of marsala cask in it.
With everything going up in price like the ingredients needed to make good quality whisky. I’m hoping I can secure a bottle of the latest Black Art release, so it can be put away as an investment. The return won’t match say a £1,000+ bottle of whisky that won’t ever be released again. But since whisky investments from bottles to casks has seen a sharp increase I feel for my budget the Black Art might net me a good return even if it is £100-£200. Yea that’s not enough for me to retire early, but a possible profit would still be useful.
Question now is will I get my payslip before the final bottle sells now. Now what bottle did I originally want to buy as a little investment, well it was Hibiki Harmony Blossom 2022, unfortunately it sold out within hours with me only learning about it later on in the day. Now what would I do if it didn’t look like selling the bottle at auction wouldn’t net me at least £100. Well it would be drunk of course.
I support Rex month. FORMAL REPRIMAND FOR THE SOMM
Can’t decide what I want for my weekly purchase on Thursday. Leaning towards trying Fire and Cane and another sweet speyside or saying screw it and ordering a bottle of Blacked now that they’re give out batch 086.
I stand with the mooch. No blocking the moochery during Rexmonth. That being said, a true master mooch would've had BOTH.
I just picked up a bottle of Black Arts 3!
I demand he try and seriously critique the 5 cheapest whiskeys in your local liquor store. Tell us what you can taste and smell in them and what you'd choose if you have to.
New to this channel, so I'm not completely up to date. Have you reviewed Jack Daniels 27? Just curious of your take.
Hey Rex and Daniel, im a recent tribe member and my father mentioned The Dimple Pinch, which is 15 years aged. I tried it and loved it, reminded me of Black Label. Could you guys review it if available in the vault
Give it a rest, Rex. Jesus.
Rex: gimme the wiskey!
Daniel: no. I won't give you the whiskey.
Rex: ok then, no. I won't give you your check.
I heard crowded barrel whiskey co makes some great stuff , have you heard of them ? They are out there REAL close to you. You guys should review it. Get with me tribe !
Hey! Maybe it's time to do a reverse blend? Perhaps start with expensive whiskey and end up with a reasonably priced one. I doubt that Rex would disapprove :)
Daniel The force is strong with you!!!LoL
Would love to see a poor mans blend of bottom shelf whiskeys.
Daniel, go ahead and give Rex his drink... put together even thirds of Black Velvet, Kentucky Gentleman, and Fireball... should be good enough.
the punishment should be to drink a dram of old forester mint julip
I'm definitely ok with the Black Art
lmao love the banter
Another great video, good stuff. Just curious what the availability of that Glendronach cask strength is in Austin? Glendronach is excellent whisky didn’t even know the cask strength existed til this video. Is that as hard to track down as the black art?
I demand Daniel gets a pay raise!
Hey guys... Could you review Oban Little Bay please?
So for severance pay does Daniel get a golden parachute? Or does he get to raid the vault on the way out? Cheers
If you guys see this I was wondering what bottles of OYO you have in the vault? As a Columbus resident I have yet to try it and wondered if what selections from them you have tried.
I was at my local liquor store and they have 4 of them.
Finally the dark mooch came in
The Spirit Monk[e]y issues a formal reprimand for lack of toast.
With the goggles and robe Rex's mooch powers have increased to the point where he parylized Daniel from the Toast! Uh oh, this can't be good....
Can you guys review Costco's Kirkland brand Bourbon?
I believe the solution to the 1815 last pour is to find the richman's blend to create it :).
Nice defend Daniel!
I've a question, If Rex is on the 'Board of Directors' of wizards academy, why isn't he listed on the website with a photo? Just curious, thinking the Mooch might be scamming our Somme!
Rex and Daniel, I have been curious for a while about distilling odd things, and their possibilities for making moonshine, and eventually Whiskey. Could you take things like wine, ciders, meads (honey wine) or even beer, and distill them to get moonshine? If so then what do you think would happen to the taste after aged in barrels? If not then what would happen?
When you take essentially wine and distill it you end up with brandy or cognac and other grape-based distillations, and I'm pretty sure it counts for most fruit, as I've seen apple brandy before. I'm pretty sure taking a grape distillation and not aging it is called Grappa, which is a very interesting drink to explore in its own right (it goes well with some Fitzgerald and other lost generation era folks). I don't know what a honey distillation would be like - at the very least it could be interesting. A number of different breweries have started taking their beer bases and distilling them - the guys have done a few reviews of different beer-based whiskeys (though none of them have really impressed them it seems).
Sorry Rex, gotta go with Daniel here. The problem is, you let Rexmonth go, you've got a lot of work to get your moxy back.
Also, if Rex is on the board of directors, does that just make Daniel the owner? Or is he the president? Either way, from a business perspective, I can't possibly see how Rex stands above Daniel.
Ok, apparently I've missed a bit. If Daniel is the Vice Chancellor, who is the Chancellor?
@@prairiedogs001 Roy Williams
But who is Roy Williams? Is he in an episode?
@@prairiedogs001 no. Lol. I could be wrong but I believe it is Rex's father. I think he had been an advertising guru in the day and was one.. If not the spearhead for developing the Wizard Academy... They have a bunch of classes mostly for business owners.. But they have a bunch of applications.. The Somm program started as a vehicle for some of the business concepts.
Again I could be wrong.. And then the Vault videos came to be.. Starting as resources for the Somms in the program.. And it took on a life of its own
We demand a reprimand! The pewpole have spoken! The Mooch is the manifestation of our will! You will obey!
Stick it to the man Daniel!!!
How about Leadslingers?
Man I love these guys but I really get tired of Rex playing the bit too hard and just acting like a huge brat
Totally agree. The videos would be much more enjoyable if Rex toned it down quite a bit. There's been a few videos recently I couldn't finish because of Rex
The real shame of it is that Daniel really knows his sh-- and could be very informative, but much of the time Rex's nonsense turns them both into clowns.
Can't disagree here... I still watch the videos, but this went a bit past funny into the whiny.
Stop Critting Me acting?
Spot on! Rex plays the spoiled brat and Daniel must be the adult in the room. Not funny at all.
Daniel, remember mooches are a dime a dozen (nay, a penny). Rex's true animal spirit is a mule and like a mule you may have to wrap him with a 2x4 a few times to get some common sense into him.
I just notices that the majority of the bottles are clear glass. Does direct sunlight not effect the whiskey like it would a beer in clear glass?
The vault has really thick curtains they draw when not filming.
I need that poor mans Laphroaig Lore.
Did he add the Deanston to the Bruichladdich at 7:39?
Daniel! Answer me, Somm!!
Rex's reprimand should be that instead of pouring him your good whiskey, you send it to me by mail.
Ravioli, ravioli give me the 1815 formuli.
I’m just kidding of course. I would never punch Rex in his face.
The Spirit Monk[e]y is pleased with Daniel's steadfast resolve.
Finally!
DAMN IT I THOUGHT DANIEL WAS GONNA SNAP LOL
#REXMAS 🎅!!!!!!!!
Well done Daniel! Saving the vault. Without the Somm there's no vault. Without the vault there's no Mooch. Somm > Mooch. That ending though was great.
uh, rex. ralfy said it best. a little bit of the good stuff in a cheaper version does amazing things. quit trying to blend malts. take mcclellands lowland, which is no doubt auchentoshen, and add some real three wood or better and bingo! cheap single malt that tastes good.
I think the last of the 1815 should be saved for a lucky magnificent bastard. Why not do a contest?
Me!
@@christinavanness7697 Very Rex of you.
@@JimmyLeg only because I got engaged while drinking that whiskey.. I'd love have some at the eventual wedding.. Never gonna happen.. But I can ask
Let's see - Rex didn't get to drink a whisky 99.9 percent of us will never get to try, and had to "settle" for a whisky 99.8 percent of us will never get to try. There needs to be a mooch ejection seat in the tower, with Daniel's finger on the button.
Rex, a number of us were indoctrinated from an early age in Morals and Values... if you ever did anything evil to Daniel, in the real world... you can kid around about that, but there is a line you should not cross. Remember that.
We the people demand reprimand IMMEDIATELY!!!! Rex month!!!!!!
Looks like Daniel's Sommie Powers is greater than Rex's Mooch Powers. Don't worry Rex, you can always mooch your relatives.
The Spirit Monk[e]y kindly recommends the renaming of "poor man" to "poor bastard". Because ...reasons.
Stand your ground, Damiel
reading the comments, that reprimand didnt go the way you thought it would
Sorry Rex. But have to go with Daniel on this one.
Wait... No toast
This isn't Rex Month. I've been on the fence for a few videos, but this "formal reprimand" nonsense is the final nail in the coffin. #RIPRexMonth
What about doing the opposite? Mix top shelf to taste like cheap stuff.
Daniel has been turned into gold?! ... was it an unfortunate smelting accident?
Nuanced flatness. Yep, they really said that.
What does that even mean?
Cask strength Highland Park = poor man's black art?
Empty the remains of the Ardbeg and refill it with Kentucky Gentleman + liquid smoke. Present Rex with his prize.
Hi guys
Black Art = Swill? Can i have your pour of Black Art, Rex?
He can resist you because you have grown weak. You had the gift of Rex month and you squandered your power.
Theeeee WilludaPePul
I'm with Daniel. When Rex had him put diet Coke in that awesome mix a while back that was it for him demanding ANYTHING.
Whiskey Icarus is flying a little to close to the sun
I would be opening that our "Will of the People" representative conglomerate would've been a little better looking with our attributes.
I think I’d punch Rex in the dick if I was Daniel. The Somme’s patience is impressive! lol 😂
J. Riddle bourbon please. No research beforehand.
Didn't they already review this?
Lay down the law, Daniel.
I'm with the Master Dark Mooch on this one. 🕵️♀️
Down with the Dark Mooch!
@@christinavanness7697 Blasphemy! The age of the dark mooch shall live on forever! LONG LIVE REX, THE DARK MOOCH!! 🕵️♀️
Daniel should have Rex do a flight of all the most expensive whiskeys in an episode
