@@CrazyGopnik1 almost tried Oban for the first time tonight but decided to try the lagavulin instead. Wasn’t disappointed in the slighted. Like my Smokey whisky and shocked that it’s took me this long to try it.
Finally got myself a bottle of this. Here's my breakdown of flavor: 40%leather 30% peated smoke 15% seawater 10% sawdust/straw/dark oak 5% dark orange peel on the finish.
Love the show! As a beginner I would say the lagavulin 8 was the best entry level scotch for me. Finally had the 16 and it stands on a class of its own. Pro tip for beginners, if you’re a strong coffee drinker (espresso) or no sugar, lagavulin will taste like heaven.
I'm a 62 year old woman who can't tolerate much alcohol, but fell in love with Lagavulin 16 first time I smelled it. Had gotten it as a Christmas gift for my older son. My first scotch and pretty much first whiskey to just drink, after cooking with Woodford Reserve. Goes absolutely wonderful with rich, creamy desserts. Lagavulon 12 is my second son's fave, but my older son and I like 16 over 12.
“If they don’t know what they’re asking for, you don’t pour them Lagavulin.” My story with Lagavulin 16 is actually the opposite. I had a friend with a pretty nice bar cabinet, but he was primarily a rum drinker and did not like whisky, I however did, though I thought that I didn’t like smokey whiskeys. He offers me a drink from a bottle he got from his dad, and I drink it not knowing what I was going into - I loved it! From then on out every time I visited everyone else would drink their rum while I would have the whisky all to myself. Only later did I look the bottle up and was very surprised that this was indeed a very smokey whiskey, one that I might never would have accepted if I knew what it was when I got the offer. I now primarily enjoy smokey islay whisky and I have Lagavulin 16 to thank for that.
I’ve been sipping bourbon for a few months now, but my friend who is into scotch poured Lagavulin 16 for me after Monkey Shoulder. I had no idea it was considered a heavily smoky scotch. After a few minutes with it I started picking out honey and fruit beneath the smoked turkey flavor. I can’t stop thinking about that whiskey
I bought my dad a bottle of Lagavulin 16 a couple years ago and I mooched a taste. I hated it. It hurt me so much that I thought I'd drank something toxic. Flash forward two years and I'm sitting by the campfire sipping a glass of my own Lagavulin 16 and sharing some with my mooch of a father. Long story short: tastes change and moochiness is hereditary.
Lippy I didn’t care for Scotch the first time I tried it. What was the first bottle I tried you ask? Monkey Shoulder 😂 Cut to now and it’s one of the prettiest and easy to drink bottles in my collection.

Lagavulin 16 is the life-changing one for me personally. I could never go back to the world without scotch no more. the first sip of my dear dear lag 16 got me hooked on scotch right away and forever.
It was Laphroaig 10 for me. I had drank a few different Speysides and liked them well enough but my god, the Laphroaig 10 blew my damn mind when I first took a sip of it. Peated Islay single malt Scotch is just such a great category of whisky.
@@jacobflores8666 I was exactly the same!! Laphroaig 10 was my first Islay Whisky. I’ve also tried Ardbeg 10 and I like it but slightly prefer the Laphroaig (I quite like the slight medicinal flavour you get from it). Not sure where to go next, maybe this Lagavulin 16 or maybe even a Laphroaig Lore 🤔
My intro to scotch was Monkey Shoulder. Barely into that bottle, I was gifted one of those little variety pack gift sets of 3 small bottles of scotch. It included Lagavulin 16. Life changer. It is hands down my favorite. And now after seeing this vid,, I'm also a convert to your channel. I'm smitten and subscribed.
Haha YES!.... when I first sipped it, it reminded me of the powder they use on bbq potato chips followed by a lovely campfire... Unlike Ardbeg's meaty smoke, which I also love...
Funnily enough I found BOTH Modern Rogue and the Whiskey Vault from their Understanding Whiskey series when I first start getting excited about whiskey and started looking on UA-cam for some info. Now they are both my favorite UA-cam channels by a landslide.
Absolutely right about Lagavulin not being for beginners. The first time I had it I realised how immature my palate was and I needed to learn more. The taste was so complex and nothing like I had ever tasted. Great channel by the way.
My introduction into whiskey was actually Lagavulin because it's my dads favorite. first sip i hated it, second sip i enjoyed and after the third i was hooked. Been loving peaty and smokey whiskey ever since! keep up the amazing work you guys are doing, i just got into this channel and both the community and you guys are amazing!
I tried Lagavulin on a whim at a restaurant the other night. I haven't been drinking whiskey for very long (maybe 3 years) and I was so happy to hear you guys say "minty tones after the smoke". None of my mates agreed with me ahahaha
Well I am new to Scotch with only 1 month of tasting under my belt. Although you recommend that it's not for beginners I found the Lagavulin 16 to be a nice dram. It was campfire and BBQ with a little sweetness. Very smooth and the after taste lingers for a very long time and stays moist on the palette.
So glad I found you guys through Modern Rogue. You have become one of the reasons I come on UA-cam more than before. Keep up the good work and I am having the Lagavulin 16 now..once I went smokey, I couldnt go back.
Yes. Smoky is the future. Welcome! did you see that Brian has a new show airing on SciFi channel? Scam school. Go watch it! We need to make sure the ratings keep it on air forever :-)
I bought a bottle and I cannot say enough good things about Lagavulin 16. It is the Goat. Totally hooked on it. I am enjoying a glass as I write this. I am a true believer in the 16. Bravo Zulu
Stumbled upon you guys maybe 10 days ago. Since then I've been binge watching as many of your videos as my schedule allows. I feel like I have a fairly decent whisky collection at home (about 70 bottles at last count), and I run a whisky bar with just shy of 300 whiskies at the moment, but somehow I've managed to learn something new from every single video that I've watched. I've still got many more to watch, but please, never stop making videos.
Just bought this for the first time tonight. It is super good. It's smokey up front but then it has these sweet notes in it that really makes this crazy good!
Another channel that deserves more subs! I did come from the Modern Rouge channel and I really enjoy these videos! Keep up the good work and keep drinking yall!
I’m a newbie whiskey drinker. I love your channel! I’ve learned so much! Thank you for taking the time to educate people like me!! When I first smelled Lagavulin I thought leather and a bonfire. It has a Very smoky smell. I thought i wasn’t gonna like it but when I tried it it was so smooth at the end. It was like a drinking surprise.
Here's the problem with the air pumps people use for wine bottles; while they do remove some of the air in the bottle thereby reducing oxidation, they also reduce the atmospheric pressure which leads to more alchohol evaporation --> not cool.
It's not really pronounceable in english, so don't stress it. The closest way i can think to describe it is: [Trig-vuh]. It's an old Norse name actually. Not quite Gaelic, but I guess it shouldn't be harder than pronouncing Uisge Beatha :)
This is the best comment we had yesterday. Not only did you try to help, but you managed to slide in a sly dig on the mispronunciation on Modern Rogue. Well Played. That's Rex level insult, my good friend. ;-)
For people like myself that have many many opened bottles because I am on a flavor quest,,,, I bought a bunch of corked glass bottles,on line, about $2.00 each, 25o and 375 ml..... pouring those large 1/2 full bottles into smaller bottles to reduce the air head space... It works, longer shelf life, no worries....
Love the channel, super entertaining! Regardless of this being considered a drink for the more experienced, Lagavulin 16 is what got me really into the world of Whisky, and is by far my current favourite.
Did Glenfiddich's. Found nothing special in them, so gave up on Scotch whisky and moved to Bourbons and Irish. Tried Lagavulin 16 a few weeks back and wham! Holy shit I couldn't believe whisky could taste like that! Tried Laphroaig today, along with Cragganmore and Balvenie. The others were nice, but like you said, there's no coming back from Laphroaig. I am going to try more Speysides and Highlands, but it looks like it's Isla malts for me all the way. Learnt a lot about whisky tasting and single malts from you guys. Keep the videos coming!
I did discover your channel after the Modern Rogue folks did their vids with you, but I wasn't subbed to them. I honestly can't remember the chain of recommendations that brought me to their whiskey vids, but ultimately they led me here. Which is good.
Had to find this video for you guys to give me some insight. So I used a company funded trip this past week to start taste testing different scotches. I went thru the gamut of selection. Glenfiddich 12, Balvenie 12 doublewood, Glenlivet 18, Lagavulin 16, Ardbeg 10, Chivas Regal 12, Macallen 15 and Oban 14. This was over the course of 3 days but I had no idea what I was in for with the Lagavulin so this review helped me understand some of what I was tasting. I appreciate this channel tremendously as I’m from bourbon country here in KY 👍🏼. Thanks guys
Love your channel, I subscribed... watched a few videos tonight. In the words of Nick Offerman, Lagavulin 16 is "mother's milk!"... also watched the Balvenie 12 Double Wood video... also a mainstay on my shelf... and delicious as can be. I am visiting Islay in August!!
I started exploring whisky in the later part of 2015 (I feel like a fool for not discovering whisky before then)... and I've watched all of Ralfy's videos (great way to learn), then all of LiquorHound, then all episodes of "Scotch Test Dummies" then everything in that time frame from Whisky.com (Horst and Ben)... Very recently I started watching your episodes, starting at the beginning... Just now, I came to realize something important about you guys (Daniel, and Rex). With a little bit of build-up to my main conclusion, I have concluded that Daniel is generous, he is actually a kind fellow. Daniel doesn't give that impression at first, but after about 100 episodes, I think Daniel is very generous, very kind. His basic goal is to share his knowledge with the audience, and here we see him being extremely generous with the whisky. I don't see a mean streak in Daniel, he laughs a lot, he doesn't seem moody... Rex on the other hand... Cheers!
Glad to have you! Ralfy is awesome. What a great way to start. The other channels all kick ass and bring their own killer content to the world. Glad you ended up with us.
After over 71 videos watched, I’m commenting! Found you guys via Modern Rogue, but like Daniel, I have a nerdy side (complete w spreadsheets for whiskey!). A buddy and I will be (at some point) sending some whiskey from our local distillery in Milwaukee, WI! Cilantro, you magnificent bastards!
Guys, got to this vid after watching and enjoying many of your reviews. I want to say thanks for describing that lift in the Lagavulin finish that sometimes is reminiscent of mint. Often times I get wintergreen, but you guys nailed it. To me, now it is a "nondenominational" mint!! Also, Lagavulin is so complex, there probably isn't ever going to be a last description of it, so keep talking! Cheers to you both, and all of your Tribe.
Had this for the first time today at a bar. It was my first venture into more smoky whisky and it was fantastic. I personally got toffee on the tip of the tongue moving into dark fruit then finishing with smoke and freshness. I am now in love with this and need to fin more like it!
I'm really new to Whisk(e)y, but Lagavulin 16 got me into Scotch so damn hard. I just love smokey flavors and Lagavulin 16 is def. my go to whisky for a nice evening with some good friends.
It's the Scotch that made me realize I'll be a Scotch drinker for as long as I live. It was I think the fourth Scotch I'd ever tried, and only the third single malt, so I'm just glad I stumbled upon it quickly. I literally bought it at random, because I wanted to try something new, but had no idea about regions or anything like that when I got it. One sip and I was hooked, and that's when I started to get really serious about learning about Scotch. I still keep looking for something to bump Lagavulin 16 off the top of my favorites list, but I haven't found it yet.
Tried my first Lagavulin 16 yesterday. Had only tried mostly highland single malts up until now, but you guys encouraged me. I'm still wrapping my palette around it (my tasting vocabulary is being built), but my nose said "band-aid" on my first smell. Not the plastic kind. Like the foam Curad ones. Can't wait to have some more to break it down more.
Very new to the isla profile and I have to admit that nick offerman was my motivation to buy the lagavulin 16. I am, however a cigar snob and I find the smokiness from the scotch pairs well with most of my cigars so far. My palate has a long ways to go and you guys get me in trouble with the wife quite often but I’m learning and having fun along the way. Thanks gents!
I couldn't find Lagavulin or any Islay whiskey in any bar in Dubai and the bottles are so damn expensive I was hesitating shelling out so much for a new experience. Then recently on a trip to Bali I saw a bottle of Lagavulin in a pub. Needless to say I instantly ordered it and boy oh boy ... It was a like a dream sequence. it was a journey on the clouds. You are so right about the Lift Off.
Have you tried to get hold of some old bottles of common scotch. It would be cool to see you guys try it out. Sadly not seen all the Whisky Vault episodes yet since I'm working through the back catalogue if you've done that already.
Hey Daniel hey Mooch have you guys ever used Wine Preserver to keep your whiskey from being exposed to outside gasses. Its a mix of pure nitrogen n2, carbon dioxide c02 and Argon Ar. It lays down a cover of sealing gasses on top of the whiskey to prevent exposure to outside gasses that change a whiskeys taste as the bottle is emptied and its volume changes? It comes in handy especially if you have a expensive whiskey your trying to preserve it's original taste and condition. You can buy it online at amazon or in wine shops.
Just found you from the UK, I’m of Scottish extraction. Love whisky and am tickled that your safe word is ‘Margaret Thatcher’... 😂. Great tutorials, love your dynamic.
I just tried Lagavulin 16 for the first time, and I'm having a very hard time deciding if I like it or not. It's not quite what I expected, but the more i drink of it the better it tastes
You glorious bastards have changed my outlook on whiskey, and this scotch in particular opened a door to a whole new world for me (insert perverse Aladdin reference if you wish). Nonetheless, thanks and cheers!
5:30 so, when do you get to those levels? I've been drinking whisky for about 2 years now. having tasted around 20-25 different ones. trying to differentiate the smells and the tastes and whatnot. think I'm ready for a lagavulin? (already tried laphroaig, ardmore, tallisker and finlaggan so not completely new to some of the more challenging whiskies)
Lagavulin 16 year old was the third or fourth whiskey I ever drank and I loved it. You really get the flavours that come from barrel and its just wonderful. Its woody and strong flavoured and then becomes lighter
7:45 is exactly how I am with beer. It even frustrates me. I have beers from six years ago that I absolutely refuse to open because I just love having them.
Just bought one and I'm trying it for the first time; it smells like decaying damp wood. It tastes the same. And after 3 glasses I'm going for my forth.
By pumping out the air you would normally promote alcohol evaporation. The thing with wines is that you value the removal of oxygen and prevention of oxidising more than the evaporation of alcohol.
I only tried Lagavulin 16 about a week ago and pretty much started watching you guys the next day. I have mainly been a bourbon man with Laphroaig 10 being a favorite Scotch and a monkey shoulder hear and there. I bought $1000 worth of Scotch Whiskeys in a week to try and this is living, so many flavors its an experience. The Lagavulin 16 really threw me on first tasting it was a bit of a roller coaster of flavors but in a good way though I couldn't pick them all and it will most likely take me a while too do so, however one flavor I got straight up after thinking on it was like i had burned a stick in a fire getting it nice and charcholed white hot and then dipped it in brown sugar but still didn't seem to pin point what i was tasting. after watching your clips for a week and learning I tried it again tonight and it hit me that the tast I was getting was a perfectly charred marshmallow on a smokey burned stick. IT WAS AWESOME! Thanks guys keep up the great work.
So I have thoroughly enjoyed Monkey Shoulder. On the nose, on the palate, a pleasant surprise for my first scotch. After watching more of your tasting videos I have set my sights on Lagavulin 16. Is this a good move? I am just stoked to try my next scotch and am truly grateful for your recommendations!
I'll say this, I'm an experienced craft beer drinker, but historically I haven't had much whiskey, I was convinced to try Lagavulin because I had JW Lees Lagavulin Cask Aged Harvest Ale and it was fantastic. I bought the 8 year and really dug the smoke, but found the 16 to be even easier to drink than the 8, so it's interesting that you say it's an intermediate level whiskey, because I've only had like three varieties of scotch ever, and I immediately loved it/got the appeal.
Watched a lot of your episodes, but this one made me subscribe. Not cause its special over the others but because I'm drinking a bottle of Lagavulin as I watch this and loving it. I would describe myself as an intermediate whiskey drinker edging into advanced perhaps, but havent been able to get past peated scotches until now. I'm drinking the Lagavulin Distillers Edition I got yesterday and am starting to see past the peat, as it is matured in ximenez casks, which for me is good as my first scotch was Macallen. Im loving this and want to see you guys do a review, curious if Im right about it being more approachable than the Lagavulin 16.
I had this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Just found this video. To me this was pretty mild. Not overly aggressive. All the flavors were blended together so well. I never had a smoky peated whisky before this, and it's absolutely amazing! So, know im on a peated journey because of you magnificent bastards. I picked up a bottle of connemara(i'm an Irishman, figured that would be a good start in my own collection.) Im in love. Slainté Edit: I found a bottle in northern Idaho for 80 bucks!
Espresso, when made properly, is strong but not bitter. If it's off it's either been under or over extracted or not extracted at the right pressure. I've made it correctly for friends and they are surprised by the flavor without bitterness or sourness. If you are thinking Starbucks for espresso it's not even close.
Lagavulin was my first ever straight whisky. I chose it because it was the highest rated one in the price range and everyone seemed to love it. I also fell in love with it and now have been on a whisky journey that has lead me to Japanese whisky as my favourite, but Lagavulin is still the owner of my heart.
Bought this bottle today absolutely blown away like nothing I've experienced in my Scotch/whiskey Journey so far really nothing like I expected feel like I sort of grew up a little bit today just saying LOL I don't like to claim things as my new favorite or the best on Earth because I could always try something I like more tomorrow but for the right now holy cow this stuff is amazing Smoke forever my mom tasted that Smoky flavor when I first took a sip it's that smokey all the other flavors I taste in this are hiding in amongst and around the smoke a lot of people like scotch and cigars this is the scotch and cigar you don't even need to bring a lighter or a punch
Hi Rex hi Daniel... I just have my first Islay whisky, and it’s Lag 16, and I love it... I like the savory, smokey maritime flavor. And now I’m looking for my second Islay, I’m thinking to buy Ardbeg Ugie or Port Charlotte 10, what do you think? Which have the same smoke profile? Thanks
I recently had the great pleasure of enjoying Lagavulin Distillers Edition and it was life changing. One of the beautiful things about the bar I work at is that I get an incredible deal on my shift drinks. Wine, beer, and cocktails(my choice) are on the house for one. While spirits are at my employee discount of 40%. Needless to say I've been eyeing the three Pappy's that we have and I think on my last day I'll have to do a side by side comparison. Let me know if I've earned any mooch points from Rex
I’ve had a fair amount of scotch- once I got in the world of Isley I fell in love. I thought laphroaig was awesome then I tried arebeg. I have enjoyed many a bottle of ardbeg 10, enjoyed an OA as well. I have even enjoyed bowmore which is friendlier in my honest opinion than the two mentioned before, but I have never had the joy of sampling lagavulin. Should I try a glass at a favorite bar before buying a bottle (granted it’s a steep price) or will i not be disappointed in dishing out the dough to cover the expense of a bottle. To be fair, lately I have been in more of a bourbon and highlands whiskey mode. With that being said, with the colder weather approaching and being surrounded by friends, chili and nightly campfires, something within me is shouting to revisit Islay; I have not had an islay whiskey in over a year and am feeling like I need to delve back in! With that being said for almost half the price I can enjoy what I previously listed… should I try it?
Yesterday, 3rd may 2021... I went to the bar that had a nice whiskey collection. I had a glenfiddich 12, than I light a cigar and remembered they have lagavulin 16. I drank lagavulin with that cigar, and my God it tasted like monkey sholder. I had some brine in the finish... but mostly malty sweetness. Mind blown
Okay...I’m between 30 and 40 bottles into my whisky collection (mostly single malt scotch). I’ve tended to favor the lighter friendly whiskies like Speysides, Irish, Japanese, etc. I really enjoyed Bunnahabhain 12 and when I saw a Bunnahabhain Ceobanach for a good price, I picked it up to dip my toe into heavily peated whisky waters and was pleasantly surprised that it was delicious and paired really well with a smoked salmon I make. I’d been dragging my feet and finally bought a Dalmore 12 and Lagavulin 16 last night because I wasn’t sure about the hype on both. The Dalmore 12 is 100% in my wheelhouse and I will be enjoying this. I was a bit confused by the Lagavulin 16 because it wasn’t as crazy smoky as I was expecting. I got the salty, algae, rubber, shore at low tide notes that everyone talks about, but the smoke was really subdued from what I expected. The Bunnahabhain Ceobanach for me tasted like bbq meat, cigars, campfire, etc. and met the expectations of what I thought a heavily peated whisky would taste like. I was so nervous that the heavy peat of Lagavulin would be off putting... but I’m feeling like I don’t what peated whisky supposed to taste like. I might have to grab an Ardbeg and Laphroig just so I can understand what that area of Islay is all about. Am I the only one that didn’t think Lagavulin 16 was that smoky on first try when my palate leans towards the light, pretty, and usually sherry cask oriented?
I love it; I've been drinking scotch almost a year and although I havent tried many distilleries, Lagavulin 16 is my favorite scotch to have on hand. Once or twice a week ill have a 1/3 of a glass and its amazing. It's smoky and peaty, but not as strong as say laphroaig. It has a really nice crisp finish, and its incredibly smooth. I would say its smoothness reminds me of johnny walker blue, but its about half the price.
I'm a beginner-intermediate having recently been on the Balvenie 12, Monkey Shoulder and Glenmorangie 10, but I just tried Lagavulin as my first Islay and I love it. Can't say I was able to pick out more than 1 or 2 flavors beyond the smoke, but I thoroughly enjoyed it anyway. I'm an espresso drinker and big flavor lover (blue cheese, olives, spicy food etc.) so can't say that it was a surprise. So I think when you say this is an intermediate-advanced whisky, that is to fully appreciate its quality and complexity?
I just wanted to say that the videos you guys put out are awesome! I have a bottle of Lagavulin and I’ve been saving it for my wedding day so I’ve been curious to know what it tastes like and you’ve guys have delivered. Thanks!

Funnily enough I found BOTH Modern Rogue and the Whiskey Vault from their Understanding Whiskey series when I first start getting excited about whiskey and started looking on UA-cam for some info. Now they are both my favorite UA-cam channels by a landslide.
can comment you are not ! am an Aussie GP with a passion for whiskey but no knowlege - passion has increased along with knowlege!!!
You guys….. are natural. Very easy to watch….. 👌
For me, it is simply wonderful.
I tried Lagavulin on a whim at a restaurant the other night. I haven't been drinking whiskey for very long (maybe 3 years) and I was so happy to hear you guys say "minty tones after the smoke". None of my mates agreed with me ahahaha
“If you’re with your friends, that’s a special occasion drink the damn whisky.” Im writing that down to say to my son someday.
Lagavulin 16 is the best whisky I've ever tasted
Mine too man !
Nailed it sir!! Cheers
Bravo Zulu
I dreamed about drowning in an ocean made out of orange soda last night. It took me a while to work out it was just a Fanta sea.
Your thumbnail should just be a brick wall and a mic
lol, WOW
It's not "haha" funny, but it grows on you eventually.
Hell yes. Glad you're here!
Just bought this for the first time tonight. It is super good. It's smokey up front but then it has these sweet notes in it that really makes this crazy good!
As I've gone through the glass it tastes less smokey.
Found you from Modern Rogue. Now I'm making my way through all the videos. Very entertaining and occasionally informative.
Cheers!
New catchphrase! "whisky vault - occasionally informative"
I like "Suddenly Informative", it's more accurate and it has more panache.
Another channel that deserves more subs! I did come from the Modern Rouge channel and I really enjoy these videos! Keep up the good work and keep drinking yall!
I actually went the other way 'round. I was watching these guys and loving the channel, then found Modern Rogue.
I love this channel!! Before I even think about buying a bottle I check for reviews from these guys first. Love the banter and ball busting.
Here's the problem with the air pumps people use for wine bottles; while they do remove some of the air in the bottle thereby reducing oxidation, they also reduce the atmospheric pressure which leads to more alchohol evaporation --> not cool.
that is absolutely true. Thank you for comment!
And please for the love of god, tell me how to pronounce your name correctly in case I mention it on video..
Lagavulin 16 is an amazing drink! It WOWS me every time!
I so love you two going at it over the whisky that's being reviewed , great work and thanks for you knowledge and fun.
Thanks guys
First bottle i ever bought. My gateway to whiskey
What compares to it? I assume it's in your top 3?
Bold move, I respect that
This is the first bottle of whiskey I bought. I’m two glasses in and still can’t quite comprehend it. Astounding.
Love all the tasting notes and nuances that you pointed out on this whisky ... I mean wow lol
Man, you are our kind of whisky drinker.
Cilantro, you magnificent bastards!
very cool! thanks for watching!
Such a classic.
Just had it now for the first time ever. Nice, very nice.
I'm really new to Whisk(e)y, but Lagavulin 16 got me into Scotch so damn hard. I just love smokey flavors and Lagavulin 16 is def. my go to whisky for a nice evening with some good friends.
I agree completely.
Just bought my first bottle of it today. Excited for my first nose and taste
Have you tried to get hold of some old bottles of common scotch. It would be cool to see you guys try it out. Sadly not seen all the Whisky Vault episodes yet since I'm working through the back catalogue if you've done that already.
I work in a pub in Wales and Lagavulin is my go-to for a slow sip after my shift. Penderyn is a more local one which I rate almost as highly.
Lagavulin was the first scotch that I tried, it’s still my absolute favorite.
"Id just knife em if i can find em"
Daniel is my spirit animal when it comes to dealing with internet trolls xD
This is 100% my favorite Scotch, hands down
Hey Daniel hey Mooch have you guys ever used Wine Preserver to keep your whiskey from being exposed to outside gasses.
You guys are fantastic.
Bought a bottle yesterday, it was worth every penny, so good.
One of my top 10 favorite Scotches. I just bought another bottle 2 days ago.
Just found you from the UK, I’m of Scottish extraction. Love whisky and am tickled that your safe word is ‘Margaret Thatcher’... 😂. Great tutorials, love your dynamic.
Three years later - "There are dozens of us!"
Drinking it right now. Fantastic whiskey 👌
I just tried Lagavulin 16 for the first time, and I'm having a very hard time deciding if I like it or not. It's not quite what I expected, but the more i drink of it the better it tastes
Same the first taste is weird and it gets better slowly
This made me fall in love with whiskey specifically scotch, thank you lagavulin for creating nectar of the gods
Lagavulin was my first islay whisky. And will always be in my cabinet
I love me some smoky whisk(e)ys. Have yet to try the 16. Think it's my next bottle.
You glorious bastards have changed my outlook on whiskey, and this scotch in particular opened a door to a whole new world for me (insert perverse Aladdin reference if you wish). Nonetheless, thanks and cheers!
First time smelling Lagavulin was like shoving an entire smoked ham up my nose and it's best whiskey I've ever had
Very informative. Thanks!
Just having a bottle of Lagavulin is enough to warrant a special occasion.
It's about $100 around my way in Pennsylvania. I looooove smokey whiskies and was pointed in this direction.
Just tried Lagavulin 16 tonight at a whiskey bar. It was my first Islay scotch. Absolutely loved it. I can see myself being an Islay diehard now.
Try Glenmorangoe Quinta Ruban on the heels of Lagavulin... It is like a very sweet chocolate orange! Love doing this move
Quinta Rubin is sooo good
I had this for the first time a couple of weeks ago. Slainté
Edit: I found a bottle in northern Idaho for 80 bucks!
I'll defer to Rex on mooch points.
But well done on the Lagavulin!
I got a bottle of this, had 1 glass and put it back on the shelf. I'm still a whiskey beginner and I ain't drinking that without a warm up first.
Mind blown
I only had Lagavulin 8 for $50 at a local store. Best Scotch I have tasted. Incredible!
Am I the only one that didn’t think Lagavulin 16 was that smoky on first try when my palate leans towards the light, pretty, and usually sherry cask oriented?
you blokes are great. keep it up
I love it; I've been drinking scotch almost a year and although I havent tried many distilleries, Lagavulin 16 is my favorite scotch to have on hand.
Thanks!
