5:10 actually, I'm preeeeeeetty sure that's the skybox/render model. That flat house texture is most likely just a placeholder, and when you get close enough it renders in those houses. I could be wrong.
Sidenote: 8:32 Oh my god they totally just used a Google maps satellite zoomout for the flat textures.

For those that check out the Nintendo Prime Podcast releasing today, here is my comment on the Sonic Generations video. Will Shesez pull through for me? First, let's prove I watched the episode! (this is my 3rd time through...)
I'm actually surprised they used a real 3d render squished for the one item box. I thought they would just use some shading techniques but maybe it was easier to squish an already existing model? Also I know this is later in the video, but I was pretty confused when you first showed those skin colored eyelids. I totally forgot classic sonic had those.
My favorite part of this episode however was when the part where an entire level of the city is rendered and just down in an area that the player never sees, plus the part where the building is collapsed. Seriously, I really love these videos because it shows there were a lot more ideas that were scrapped at one point but the assets left intact because they just really didn't need to remove them to keep the game going.
I said it on the podcast and I'll repeat it here: This is my favorite original content series on YT. Good job Shesez, I really admire your work.

I'm not entirely sure those buildings are unused. I may be wrong but due to the way levels are built I think those are just from an earlier or later part of the level. At least, that's how it is in Unleashed as seen here: ua-cam.com/video/8KGlB_1LaBw/v-deo.html
I'd love to see a part 2 to Generations one day. There's so many things you didn't show. I was hoping to see the stage select dioramas in more detail, showing off the forced perspectives on some of 'em and stuff.
Also kinda hoped to see some side-by-side comparisons of the levels, seeing as you'd already done a bunch of these levels in other videos by the time you made this one. You also only did like 3-4 levels and skipped the rest, so there's that.
It was a fun video, but for such a highly requested, and hugely popular game....The video was laughably short.

As of now, there's no way to move the camera of Unleashed freely outside of what the game wants you to see.
Someone who knows his way with hacking needs to find a way to unleash this camera. ;)

This was such an exciting video. I absolutely love this game. I know that it takes a ton of work to make these videos, but man I wish you could have shown off so much more. ~10 minutes per video just doesn't seem like enough time to do some of these games justice. But that doesn't stop my enthusiasm and appreciation for what you do. I always get excited when you release a new video, even if I can't watch every one, because spoilers.
Great episode! I was playing Tomb Raider I recently and I think that might be an interesting game for a boundary break. I'd like to see when enemies like Larson and others spawn since they come and go in certain levels but you never see how they appear/disappear.
Generations was good. It was actually a praise to many fans and Sonic's hope to victory. It perfected the 3D and smoothly crafted the 2D formula. Then there was Forces. It was a disgrace to the 3D era and dropped the ball to Sonic's return to glory

Those fish from the first level. You actually see 'em in a later level too. One with some water. And it actually shows the entire animation where they loop around. They jump up, land in the water, swim backwards through a hole in a fence, jump back up, and so on. Same looping animation from the first stage.
Speaking of Crisis City it'd be interesting to see Sonic 06 as a Boundary Break Episode at some point.
YES! I have just been replaying this like right now and when playing the metal Sonic fight I was like: Wow the backgrounds have a lot of details, I wish I could take a closer look at them.

You're probably going to want to revisit this game in the future, I'm sure. There's a lot of stuff. Seems Sonic team didn't REALLY learn their lesson from 06. For instance, in the Silver boss fight, all of Soleanna is loaded even though you only ever fight in a plaza. But you can glitch out of the boss fight and walk around the empty hub world. The bridges are missing though.

What's nuts to me is the fact that this game has no culling, especially since there are so many details that simply go unseen by the player. Sonic Team definitely went above and beyond for Generations.

There's 1 that you sorta missed, if you clip through the goal pole, (the Dr. Robotnik side) you can see robotnik has a set of teeth, even though he's not animated (or maybe he is and I didn't see it in gameplay) and can't "pop out" like Classic Sonic.
Unrelated note: As I don't mind the low fps rate about 30. How is the fps on your game increased? Does the recording remove that or something?
When modding for the switch is a thing, Shesez is gonna have a damn lotta fun.

Loved this ep! One of my favourite games and it's just as pretty with a zoomed out camera, would have liked to see more stages done like Planet Wisp but I suppose the video would be too long! Thanks for the info about the camera download from Gamma too, will have to get on it myself!

04:55: Even if they remain polygons, it wouldn't be that much slower. They probably use one "large" texture (texture atlas) for all the houses. Since all the houses also look and react to the lighting the same, they will probably be rendered in a few draw calls (= very fast!).

Man, I remember playing this on my old 360. It's one of the last Sonic games I feel has a good, serious, and fun storyline I can understand. Dont get me wrong, I love playing (most) Sonic games. But when I see a storyline from anything after Lost World, it just makes me wanna play something else. Immediatly. Generations was one of the last "good" Sonic game that Sega has made.

This is amazing, I was waiting for this since the first Boundary Break.
But it isn't enough! The game's art design is too perfect to leave it at 10 minutes! Well, looks like we're given the powers to Boundary Break ourselves I guess.
When it comes to replicating level design I always like to use Seaside Hill as reference when doing original & test level design.

4:17 Ooh, Casino Night looks like a mix of Las Vegas, San Francisco (or New York) with the bridge, and Seattle (or Toronto) with the tall tower. It's awesome. If that was a real place, I'd TOTALLY visit it.
