      Hey Mikkel, sadly I had to part with mine a while back, hard times. Had to part with a lot of gear as it happens. But, I am replacing some of the gear now as fortunes change and the Blue Marvin will be once again mine. I really enjoyed using it and I like that you put it through pedals which I never really got to do. I will in the future. Take care

      Hey Mikkel, yes life sometimes throws the odd curved ball. Finances got tough as did health. But things are on the up now but I will always wish I had not parted with my 1978 Minimoog! As it turns out parting with it solved a problem at the time but did not solve the problem. Now as it turns out I could have kept it if I had known what was going to happen. Funny old world eh?

So far I am very impressed with the blue beast (as I am calling it now) Quite a solid build even with my reservations and the sounds it makes are amazing. Just got the B2600 and was playing with it today. True, often one can hear little difference between the two filters. But at some points, I could hear significant difference. I wish I could offer more to describe precisely when I heard those differences, but they were definitely there. I was running it off a sequencer, moving sliders and patching while listening wearing headphones. I have heard that others, too, could not hear a difference in the filters. I was personally quite happy to hear differences. If memory serves, differences for me appeared most obviously when sweeping the resonance and changing the pulse width. Maybe wearing headphones was helping me notice those differences, too.
    We had an original of these (a mid-production grey face model) in my high school music lab. I spent many hours with it. I can say that the B2600 has the feel of what I experienced so many years ago as a teen. Of course, I cannot remember the exact sound of the instrument I played (through its own speakers)...but this new one sounds quite familiar. And it sounds beautiful. It definitely has a unique character. The asking price is ridiculously low for what you get. Just get some patch chords and start playing. You can get lost in this for a lifetime.
    I don't mind not having the blue or grey versions. Perhaps the components are better in those. But I never was a fan of the spring reverb on the original 2600. And I won't be using the built in reverb on this. I have outboard gear and the lovely Valhalla plugins for that.
    Highly recommended.

    • @InvertedPopesMusic
      @InvertedPopesMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Matthew thank you for that. I will listen out for the changes in the filter types. To be fair to the Blue Marvin I have only had it a week now so not had to much time to experiment. I also had my hands on an original for a week many years ago in a recording studio we were in at the time. I agree it seems to be close to the original as best I can remember apart from the smaller form factor. Also not a big fan of built in spring reverbs just don't like the idea of hitting gear that has electronic circuitry in it solder joints and all that. I will use an external fx box. All in all it is a really nice bit of kit and I am so pleased I pushed the financial boat out and got one.

      @@InvertedPopesMusic One thing I should have mentioned in my comment is that your brief demo is lovely. I was doing a little research before buying the B2600 and came across something Joe Zawinul said about the original. To paraphrase, he said that you can always tell that a Minimoog is a Minimoog. But he could make the 2600 sound like anything he wanted it to. The thing I love about this remake is that it's got a soul. It can't be an exact replica, but it's something great in its own right. Anyway, yeah, loved your demo. Hope to see you put more up!

    • @InvertedPopesMusic
      @InvertedPopesMusic  3 роки тому

      Completely agree Matthew, I do love the Minimoog as I have had 3 in my time but this 2600 remake is really something else. I am loving working with it. I look forward to seeing and hearing something on your channel from the B2600.

    Great demo. I have been interested in the BARP 2600 for a while, but the sole-source dealer for these items in the USA, Sweetwater (Amazon hasn't seen fit to stock them, yet), has them on back-order with shipments not expected until August. I'm glad you pointed out the potential for solder pad lifting at the patch points. This flaw apparently plagued Arturia's Minibrute 2 & 2S, both of which are now fairly cheap on the used market these days. There are a couple of UA-camrs out in the wild who have attempted to demonstrate the sonic differences in the 2 filter modes and if the cheaper "base" BARP 2600 sounds different than Uli's version of the "Marvin" & "Meanie", but they pretty much sounded the same to me (excepting the digital v.s. spring reverb). Still, I want one, probably the base model.

      @InvertedPopesMusic  3 роки тому +1

      Hey Individual Two, I will get out there to look for those youtubers who are demoing the difference on the filters. Probably just me but we will see. Shame that Sweetwater are the only dealers for you. I was really lucky I decided to get one, saw an add for Andertons getting them in stock in a few days, pre-ordered and it arrived early to them and early to me. Just lucky. As for the solder pad lifting again we will see. Thank you for popping in and more to come.

    very nice synopsis and noodling - hopefully they didn't cut too many corners and the jacks are reinforced on the inside
    but either way I'm still getting one - Sweetwater is endlessly out of stock, so I'll get the B Cat first
    the advantage of the spring is you can bang the case to get some nice effects and like you said you can always add external FX
    I posted a video in 2016 or so of a guy with an AKS Synthi at a synth meet, banging the case and shaping the reverb with the knobs, at one point sounded like a rattlesnake :-)
    I do the spring tricks with my exposed reverb tank that came with my Koma Field Kit (you can tap, pluck, and scrape the springs too)
    keep the good stuff comin'

    • @InvertedPopesMusic
      @InvertedPopesMusic  3 роки тому

      Hey SynthAddict great comment thank you and yes hopefully not to many corners cut. So far it does feel really solid. I have heard elsewhere that Sweetwater are struggling to get them. I was so lucky from the point I thought I would get one to it being in my studio was only 10 days. As for the reverb, I am somewhat loathed to beat the synth same with the Grandmother when I had one, just don't like the idea of knocking around something that has soldered parts inside. I did try once on the blue beast but again with little result did not hear that famous sound of a bashed spring. I will have a look for that video you posted. Take care.

      @@InvertedPopesMusic With electronic instruments it's easy to fall into a "classification" or follow what's been said on forums for a decade. Hard to shake public perception even when something is sitting in front of someone not making the music/sounds they actually like and would use in a specific track.
      The Moog timbre is unusable for me outside of a novelty bassline here and there. I'd take a Behringer Pro-1 over a Moog Minimoog D (RI or vintage) or some random modular in actual use. Analog polysynths are the same... I'd take a Nord Lead 2 or Blofeld/Microwave II/ Micro Q over a CS-80 or OB 8-Voice in actual use and for making music.

    Definitely save up & get the Matriarch. It changed my life. Especially with modular. For the money the Matriarch is a steal. It’s a contemporary classic; easily as good as the Minimoog! And I don’t say that lightly. It has that 70s filter. Beautiful

      I bit the bullet and bought the Matriarch. What an amazing synth and I agree it is just wonderful to play. As for as good as a Minimoog I am not sure I have had 3 in my time and they were fantastic to play. I think the Matriarch may be just a tad better than a Minimoog and I don't say that lightly either. Mind you I would love to have a Minimoog again probably for nostalgic reasons. Maybe one day.

      @@InvertedPopesMusic Remember fads come around full circle. The Minimoog will always have a place in the studio. IMO it's an essential in the business. I stopped using most of my synths for recording, and amassed a massive collection of VSTi, and use them most of the time. Arturia is a fantastic example. It lets me experience kind of a CS-80. The CS has always been a dream, but I don't think I could drop a quarter mil on a keyboard, it would have to be a Stradivarius for that to ever happen.

    Not bad, for Behringer. Although they have taken some cost cutting measures in the components which allow them to sell the instruments at a fraction of the price over others. In the Case of KORG they had the luxury of working with David Friend, who was the designer on the original 2600 and the odyssey. Along with KORG’s synth builders and experts were able to build better quality products. Albeit slightly more expensive then Behringer. You could eventually save up for the 2600M which is a smaller version of the 2600 FS, that KORG reissued a few years back, but I digress.

    • @InvertedPopesMusic
      @InvertedPopesMusic  2 роки тому +1

      I agree PAUL K really this was a purchase to see what the build quality of a Behringer product was like and if I could get my head around the way they work. Would love to own an original of course or even the Korg reissue but this will do for now. I have to admit I am still not jelling with it as I thought I would but I will persevere.
