All I want it a tutorial on the BEGIINER stuff. The STARTING POINT. like connecting it to a computer, how and where to hear sound. how to connect to a daw, how to connect a keyboard to it, what to use... ANYTHING lol.. all of these 'beginner tutorials' begin with everything already set up.
I wish I seen this video before. I had to keep moving the sliders until I got a sound. Once I got a sound I had to kept moving sliders until the fart 💨 noises went away. 😅.

I tell you guys, you won't be disappointed. I wanted one of the Korg remakes but the assholes only made a limited batch of them deliberately. Now I see people selling them at like triple the original price. These fit nice into a eurorack system. I am going to add one of these to my three tier Moog 32 system

I just ordered a B2600.
I was on the fence on going fully modular with B System100 or semi modular with B2600. But man I think I selected the correct option here. For the price I payed, $425, this just crushes anything I could have gotten as fully modular.
Blue marvin and Gray meanie have "matched transistors, fets and film capacitors". In the old days the transistor amplification (hfe) and offset (in mV) variation was much larger than on some modern SMD transistors. Capacitors had a larger spread in frequency and temperature variation compared to some modern SMD capacitors.
These are some of the reasons why 2 ancient ARP2600 will sound somewhat different.
Modern matched SMD transistor-pairs will/CAN have close to the same amplification, dc offset and temperature variation. Modern SMD capacitors (C0G) can have nice flat frequency and temperature variation but will cost more than less well behaved variants.
A modern "perfect" circuit will not sound as "warm" and as "analogue" or "random" but will behave nicely.
Rewatching. I have used this for about 6 rave techno tracks. The bass, this is my bass.
After 40 years of waiting, I can finally get a 2600, if they ever get imported. The standard 2600 has a “more than adequate” digital reverb unit. If you weren’t born 60 or more years ago, it’s great. I learned on a Buchla 100 and the spring reverb was like a whole ‘nother voice! When I heard of the possibility to get a spring I decided to buy. The one dealer in the US hasn’t gotten any blue or grey models; they ha 13 at Anderton’s, currently. What to do …
A month later and I’m enjoying my Blue Marvin; playing it on my lap through headphones. I’ve MIDI’d a keyboard once or twice, but it’s just as much fun without. I’ve been using the “2600 Patches” from ARP, graciously available on the Korg site. Most work, with a bit of tuning (the Fun Part!). The Behringer 2600 adds a few things ARP forgot, which requires a few patch mods, but it’s all good. BTW, the Behringer does NOT include patch cords or MIDI cables. I’ve ordered a 0-Control, for Buchla style touch plates and sequencing + more cables.
The spring reverb is a bit of a dud. Too small I guess.

I got my Gray Meanie a month ago and I'm loving it! It can create so many sounds I recognize from the music I listened to. But the limited editions don't only have a real spring reverb, they also have through hole capacitors in the filters instead of SMD caps. (I don't think you can actually hear the difference though.)
That real spring verbs are shit though, people wont use it even on original 2600's. Hence I prefer orange version emulated spring reverb, has a deep character to it, insta 90's.

I love the spring reverb, I get all kinds of random artifacts in my sound that make the synth feel alive. I can see why some people don’t like it, but for me I love the how it colors the sound.
@zemzemkoko Correct, the spring reverb on the Blue/Gray does not add much. I have my 2600 (black) fed out to a 19" spring reverb tank. Makes the system really shimmer.
@@SpaceCapsuleOne I was toying with the same idea. I think that the original 2600's also had a 19" spring reverb. Can you just exchange one for the other without changes to the electronics?

I think you just sold me on a Behringer 2600. I didn't know about the pre-amp input. That's very useful. I know it's a monosynth but I plan on using a Midi to CV Eurorack module from my rig to get 3 note polyphony (well, actually paraphony) so I can play chords. I can't wait to run the audio through an Eventide pedal!
I have just placed my order for a Poly D, to learn the basics of substractive synthesis. Next on my must-do-in-this-lifetime list is learning how to tame this moster.😂😂😂

Great Vid @ 38:10 you state that that was used in Star Wars; don't forget Emerson used the moog to great effect in Brain Salad Surgery 4 years earlier using sequencers and S & H. Perhaps John Williams got the ideas off Emerson? Anyway a fantastic vid and I think I'll def buy it thanks to your tutorial. I've dreamed of owning this since 1977.
Seems as if this is not a synth for beginners..?
Only so much as you'd need to know how to connect it to a keyboard, speakers and, perhaps a computer, in order to drive it.
I reckon it'd make a fairly nifty learning platform, to really understand the synthesis process. (I cut my teeth on the Roland SH-101, back in the day.)
That being said, a true beginner would be better off starting with a polyphonic keyboard.
So, perhaps this 2600 is a good choice, when it comes time to expand.

I KEEP GETTING A REPEATING NOTE EVEN THO I HAVE NO NOTES PREASSED ON MY MIDI KEYBOARD...THE SAME NOTE NOTE FIRES UP EVERY 5 SECS...DRIVING ME CRAZY

Great introduction to this wonderful instrument. Fortunately I own an Odyssey and was familiar with the amp gain setting. In many ways I can see what they borrowed from the 2600 to make the Odyssey. But thanks to Berhinger I now own two of these which has been a life's dream.

I ended up getting both the Berhinger 2600 then the Blue Marvin version. I might build a TTSH kit. I too have a collection of Moogs. Voyager, LP Stage Ed and the 16 voice Moog One. I just bought the re issue of the Oberheim XA which I am dying to play. The Oberheim Two Voice Pro is another gem I have. I finally have all the parts to rebuild my Arp Quadra and original Odyssey. Too many toys, too little time. But I always say, every man has at least one expensive hobby.

I think, when mine arrives, I might place a couple of 3mm dot stickers, to indicate those couple of controls you need to get the initial sound.
Best introductory video on the Behringer 2600 I've watched. Immediately started answering a bunch of questions I had.
I'm really trying to figure out how to sync my Ableton clock to the Sample & Hold INT CLOCK on the b2600 via CV? Could I use a beatstep or my uad interface perhaps? What would be the protocol?
It's not an ARP (Alan R. Pearlman) product. Korg has branded that for their reissue. It is a Behringer 2600. So Barp pays no respect to either Uli or Alan. Same goes for Boog.

I have hooked my essntials 49 key keyboard into the Behringer 2600 thru the MIDI out on the Keyboard and the MIDI in on the Behringer 2600 but still get no sounds.....PLEASE HELP!!!
Hi John,
make sure you have the midi channel set correctly on the arp 2600 in order to receive the midi from your keyboard.
There are some tiny little toggle switches on the back to choose which MIDI channel it receives on.

I legit though I may have a defective model and in fact, I suspect the guy who traded my grey meanie to me (in exchange for a moog mother 32 module!!!) thought he had a defective model as well. I look forward to watching your other video on the 2600 to see what else I can unlock in this amazing machine! Your video is a MUST WATCH for anyone unfamiliar with this synths unusual signal path and having watched it I now feel comfortable patching it and have gotten some truly incredible sounds!

Does the PWM sound any better if you turn the color of the noise down really low? The example you played here was with the noise turned all the way up to White Noise, which is going to include a lot of high frequencies, which would be like controlling PWM with high-frequency audio rates.
It generally sounds gritty controlling the PWM with noise.
For a more classic sound patch the LFO to control the PWM as shown in the video.

To be fair, the caps/components in the ltd b(arp) 2600s filters are higher quality than the stock b arp 2600s filters components

Yes there are ways to do 'generative music' with the arp 2600.

I'm an old guitarist who over the past couple of years has taken to synthesis, like a drummer to drink.
I am absolutely loving Beh's analogue clones, Model D, & Pro 1 backed by 2 Wasps through my guitar rig are massive.
Something else that I'm really impressed with is Beh's 19" rack mount "ultra pro" series of signal processing gear. It's really good.

anyone care to chime in I'm so torn on what behringer synth to get I love the look of the deepmind12 but I don't have to have presets I enjoy sound design so what do you say poly d b2600 or the deepmind12 hopefully one day I'll have multiple but for the time I can only afford one I do have a korg minilogue and also have komplete 13 and abeltons live 10 suite haven't even got into abeltons yet just purchased it for 250$ can't beat that I'm a solo multi-instrumentalist I write along the lines of Robert Fripp and space rock prog rock thank you behringer for making dreams reality I would never be able to touch a real 2600 or a mini moog can't wait to see the oberheim demos roll out
I have the DeepMind 12D and my 2600 has just arrived. The DeepMind is a great synth,. as a lot of its controls are there on the front panel, making it very accessible and adjustments very immediate. When you want to dive deeper, it has much more to offer and it will keep you happy for many years. The B.2600 is my first foray into modular/semi-modular hardware synthesis and I suspect that it will provide a lifetime of twiddling. I have the Arturia ARP 2600 V soft synth too, but I haven't really experimented with it, apart from tweaking the parms on a few factory presets.

What modules and functions are midi assignable?
Sadly none of them except for basic note on/off as far as I know.
I believe the LFO is also retriggered on each new note on.
There's lots of CV control though using the patch points which makes it integrate well with other modular gear such as eurorack.
