The movie, the Jazz Singer is about Neil Diamond‘s character, who is from a very religious background, and whose father wanted him to be a Cantor, who is the singer next to the rabbi in Temple. Neil Diamond wanted to be a rockstar, and his father basically said that he was dead to him. This scene was the final scene of the movie and made his father realize the joy that his son brought to the world. The woman was Neil Diamond’s love interest.
This was a remake of the original.
BTW; the father was played by Legendary actor, Laurence Olivier. The actress next to him; is Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's daughter, Lucie Arnaz. Arnaz plays the manager/baby moma. You have to watch the movie; it's awesome. The Jazz Singer; is a modern telling of the Al Jolson 1927 original The Jazz Singer. Jolson was a performer who use the 'Black Face' as his stage persona. A movie; no one nowadays, would want to watch.
Interesting fact….the woman playing the love interest is Lucie Arnaz. Daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz
The woman is Lucy Arnez. Daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnez. ( I love Lucy )
Thanks for that info. I grew up with Neil Diamond but didn't see this movie so I was clueless about the couple in the audience. He is Americana at it's finest.
He is one of my all time favourites.
The song has a lot of significance to Jewish people. My mother loved it and said that it made her think of her grandmother who, at 16, fled the pogroms in Poland and with just a small bag of belongings and enough money to get passage in steerage class, made her way on a boat across the Atlantic to the US. Hoping to be free.
i’m a die-hard metalhead who also loves hip-hop, and can honestly say Neil Diamond is 100% the f*cking man. i was lucky enough to finally see him live in 2017, 6 months before he announced his immediate retirement from touring when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. i took my 70 year-old mom and my 17 y-o niece and all 3 of us had an amazing time. he sounded like he was still the age he is here, and his lyrics are just 🤯 he’s one of the best songwriters to ever do it.
It's hard to explain the power and magnetism Neil has unless you see him in person, I heard this is person, and it's amazing, all of his music is very original, and he does it so well.
Can't be listening to Neil Diamond and not listen to "Sweet Caroline"
I completely forgot that was him! I know that song though!
Sold 130 million records, one of the top selling Artists.
Sweet Caroline
Craken Rose
Fantastic song writer
Praying for Neil
Great song!
I love
Neil Diamond. Please get well. We will wait for you.
He had alot of hit songs
Fun fact, number 16 for most successful touring artists of the past 40 years. Was number 1 for solo acts in some years. 11.9 million tickets sold. Other artists have covered his songs, including Elvis and Frank Sinatra. There was a movie with the main character playing the lead singer in a Neil Diamond tribute band, "Saving Silverman". There's currently a Broadway play called "A Beautiful Noise", about his life. He told the producers he wanted the warts and all in order to get his okay. You need to know the bad too. There's also a song called Beautiful Noise, inspired by one of his daughters, hearing a Puerto Rican parade from their hotel room and saying "What's a beautiful noise, daddy".
Nothing but a heartache by Neil Diamond from his "Melody Road" album released in 2014 (all songs are great).❤
Neil Diamond is a performer. He never did much music video wise, but wrote many songs, many others made famous.
Delve into Neil Diamonds career. He is ahhhmazing. React to Sweet Caroline,Love on the Rocks,September Morn,Hello,Beautiful Noise,Hallelujah,Play Me,soooo many more!
Neil Diamond "And the Grass Won't Pay No Mind" Ultimate love song.
The consumption of a love affair ?
Some more great Neil Diamond songs: Love on the Rocks, Sweet Caroline, Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show, Hello, Again, Solitary Man, Heartlight (which he wrote about E.T. (from the movie)).
Neil Diamond: "I AM I SAID"🎼
Movie: "The Jazz Singer" 1980 - Loved this movie when I first saw it, and this song is amazing.
I highly recommend watching the movie The Jazz Singer.
Been enjoying Neil’s music for decades….have been to many concerts, never sat. Three hours of pure Heaven…no intermissions,no opening acts. Saw his 59th Anniversary concert, which sadly was his last due to his diagnosis of Parkinson’s. Currently his biographical play about his life is on it)# second year on Broadway!
This song always brings back great memories for me. My husband and I traveled from Washington DC to Boise to see some frineds and it was 4th July the day we arrived. They took us to a baseball game and at the end there were fireworks and as they went off this song was being played. I saw the film when it first came out and loved it.
Had a friend in the Navy coming back to base in Norfolk VA and they played this coming into port. 🚢
This is from the final scene of the movie "The Jazz Singer" The older gentleman is his father played by Sir Laurence Olivier and the female is his love interest played by Lucy Arnaz daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz.
My favorite of Neil Diamond is "September Morn".
Great reaction as always! My favourite of his is Mister Bojangles
The Jewish man in the audience was Sir Laurence Olivier one of the greatest British actors and played Diamonds father in this film. (Olivier's own father Richard was an Anglican vicar!)
In the Movie 'The Jazz Singer" the woman in Lucie Arnaz (Lucille Ball & Desi Arnaz's daughter) costars with him in this movie and this is a clip from the movie that you were watching. The man is an actor playing his father in the film.
That would be Sir Laurence Olivier.
@@snikkerr1949Thank you. "The actor" gave me a shock. Olivier is more than legendary. He is brilliance..
Def need to review more of Neil Diamond. IF he's not already on your list, please add Jim Croce as well!
Phenomenal talent. You can't go wrong with Sweet Caroline as the next song of his you react to.
My favorite Neil Diamond song is Forever in blue jeans. Its my and my husband's song.
My mother is a big Neil Diamond fan so I heard a lot of it growing up (that and Rod Stewart). Some favorites, in order of the probability that you've heard them before:
Sweet Caroline
Solitary Man
I Am... I Said
Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show
Kentucky Woman
Neil Diamond.. Brother Love's Traveling Salvation show. Live version. Would have sent you a link but you said not to.. 🙂. Neil dressed so no matter how far back your seats were, you could see where he was. He had to retire from touring due to Parkinson's but he was still selling out arenas until then.
Thank you for this. One song I would suggest, read or listen to his story, then listen to I am, I said... . As someone involved in music, give it a shot
Song he said took him the longest to write. I believe 4 months.
@@jstmez given the fact that he wrote the song after being told numorous times by other musicians that he is not a singer and must stick to playing guitar and writing. That is when he found the self-confidence to work and push even harder. Everytime his "demons" would tell him that he is not and never will be a singer, he said to reply by saying "but I Am, I Said..."
Simple answer, GO watch The jazz singer. You will love it and I'm sure your audience would l8ve your reaction
He started as a ghost writer in New York! And he's got some great songs. I am...I said is one of my favourites
He was a great performer. One of the most prolific songwriters of all time. “Solitary Man”, “Sweet Caroline”, “I’m A Believer”, Girl You’ll Be A Woman Soon”, “Red Red Wine”, I Am I Said”, “Play Me”, The Grass Won’t Pay No Mind”, “Love On The Rocks”, “Hello Again”, “I’ve Been This Way Before” and many many more
His best album was "Hot August Night"
A double album recorded at the Greek Theater.
Forever In Blue Jeans has been my absolute favorite since the 70s, with America being my second favorite song of his. Solitary Man is third.
You forgot one of his best. Holly Holy. And his live performance which can be seen on YT transcends music to a religious experience like Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
This is a very personal song for Neil Diamond. His maternal grandparents emigrated from Russia, his paternal grandparents from Poland. He wrote the song for a movie called The Jazz Singer (1980) in which he starred alongside Laurence Olivier, who played his father in the movie. Neil Diamond is one of the best and most successful singer-songwriters ever, with 130 million albums sold, attendance records wherever he performed and numerous awards bestowed upon him. He has a huge catalogue to choose from: Solitary Man, Holly Holy, Brooklyn Roads, Soolaimon, Stones, Brother Love's Traveling Salvation, I Am... I Said, Beautiful Noise, Dry Your Eyes, Love on the Rocks, Hell Yeah... He also wrote I'm a Believer, Red Red Wine among many others.
Porcupine Pie
You Don’t Bring Me Flowers - his duet with Barbra Streisand
I love Neil Diamond and discovered him through the soundtrack of the movie Jonathan Livingston Seagull. My favorite song from him is You don't bring me flowers with Barbra Streisand. And Sweet Caroline too, of course! 😃
Don't forget about Porcupine Pie.
"You'll have to eat it with gloves or your hands will turn green. Oh my God."
This is part of the movie "The Jazz Singer." The 2 characters you mentioned were his non-Jewish wife and Orthodox Jewish Father.
You probably heard song sung Blue or Sweet Caroline ... Classic Diamond mega his
He is/was a true entertainer. I have seen him live since the mid-1970's. The movie Jazz Singer was an amazing movie. Check out his older music. Sweet Caroline is known worldwide. Brother Loves traveling salvation show is fabulous. Song sung blue is also a big one. I am new to you. Thank you for advocating mental health! This man. This man is an entertaining icon. You saw some of the passion his followers have. Take care of yourself and continue your message!
his dad in the movie was Lawrence Olivier
Love the legend Neil Diamond & love this film, also this song is iconic ❤🎶
You have a lot to learn Cliff 😉😬
More Neil Diamond❤❤❤ HollyHoly or Brother Loves traveling salvation show or I Am ..I said or forever in blue jeans
Neil writes 99% of the songs that he sings!
Sweet Caroline
About the only bad thing regarding Neil is that there was no video of his original Hot August Night concert. Nevertheless I suggest you listen to that entire concert - it's one of the finest concerts ever put together, and the audio recording is impeccable..
my first record I ever bought, was a 45 rpm of Neil's "Crackling Rose'" Was a great song and all of his music is magnificent
Although the song was made for the Jazz Singer, the best use of this song was in Born in East LA for the border rush scene.
LOL according to my mamma (passed 2006) when she lived in NYC (late 50's to 1961) she worked with a woman who kept wanting to set her up with her nephew, who was trying to make it as a singer. She swore it was Neil! 😅 Not sure I believe her but damn he could have been my daddy if she had only agreed😂😂😂 ( I was born in1962)
From "The Jazz Singer" circa 1980.
All of the songs from this movie are amazing.
He went to my highschool
They play this at alot of 4th of July celebrations
"Morningside" Forever in Blue Jeans" "Crackling Rosie"
Neil Diamond's career started in rockabilly, early 60's. I recommend Brother Long's Traveling Show. But really, all his hits are high quality.
Fantastic choice!! Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show is one of Neil's most underrated songs.
Neil Diamond is Jewish and this is a song from a movie he did called the jazz singer. It's the new one there's actually an old black and white 1 as well.
This has To Do with him but the new jazz singer movie has To Do with his life in general as a Jewish man coming to America and coming who. Is today. A musician. Great song great movie, great reaction.
I don't know a guy alive that doesn't like Neil Diamond's "Solitary Man". "I am, I Said" is also huge
watch the film the jazz singer .that were the video is from
Did anyone else laugh when Cliff checked his watch and surprisedly said "I'm gonna die!"? Dude's got it timed down to the minute! I know he meant the battery but it was still funny.
Great reaction bro. You should react to one of his best. Holly Holy. And his live performance which can be seen on YT transcends music to a religious experience like Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
“I’m a believer “ Written by him Performed by The Monkees later Shrek and Diamond himself
You have to watch jazz singer this performance was the ending of the movie great movie by the way.that older man his is father in the movie that women is his wife in the movie.
1. When listening to Neil Diamond when ever possible listen to a live version, he has almost as many live albums as studio albums, and was far superior when live.
2. For moving songs: Solitary Man, I Am, i Said*, Heartlight**, Love on the Rocks, and Shilo
3. For Fun Songs: Cherry Cherry, Cracklin' Granola Suite, Song Sung Blue***, Thank the Lord for the Night Time, Kentucky Woman
As an example of the difference between him live and Studio I would listen to Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show from Live At Madison Square Garden / 2008 and compare it to The Studio version I also would highly recommend listening to the Intro of the Album Hot August Night (1972) specifically "Soolaimon/Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show"
*His most personal song, and one I think you in particular would vibe with considering how you end your videos
** If you ever seen ET: The Extra Terrestrial then this would get you.
***Despite the name by the end of this song you will be smiling.
Please react to The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by Gordon Lightfoot next :-)
They play his dad and girlfriend in the movie done mid 80's
We've been traveling far, but not without a star is in reference to the Star of David, and the Eye of the Storm is the holocaust, it's the story of Jewish immigration to America during WWII, told as a remake of the 1920s Jazz Singer.
This was the campaign theme song of Michael Dukakis's 1988 presidential campaign, which made his immigrant story its centerpiece, back before xenophobia was so predominant in American politics.
Thts his parents
Breaking Benjamin “Dance with the Devil”🖤🖤🖤
Just FYI - the link your description is to Weird Al's song
Damn UA-cam. How did that happen. I’ll fix it. Thanks for the heads up! 🙏
This song is a true American song.
So sad that people from America hate on America so much. I say to anyone who thinks it’s horrible to go to a 3rd world country and they’ll be begging to come back.
"I'm not familiar with Neil Diamond" ? Que ? I don't like Neil Diamond but that's a great song, it's an anthem to the immigrants into the US, particularly the post WWII eastern European, Jewish immigration but it inspires regard to 19th Century European and Irish immigration. I can't believe an American hasn't heard this before.
Grew up Neil and as amazing as this song is, still not one of my favorites. Cracklin Rosey, Forever in Blue Jeans, Sweet Caroline, Johnathan Livingston Seagull, it's endless. And fun fact, he wrote Daydream Believer (the theme to the tv show the Monkeys).
not familiar? somebody payed you to say that, come on ? 😂
You had me at: WAIT LOOK AT THAT. LOOK AT THAT OUTFIT........THAT OUTFIT FUCKS!!!! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
