This song literally brings tears to my eyes because we have fallen so far from the America he was singing about.
@@karenfuller4366 That comment does not make sense, people are ignoring fact and placing everything on feelings. Back when this song was made non of this nonsense today would ever be tolerated. America was respected and full of proud people that respect everyone that has died to make this country the greatest. you also can not forget the past and not repeat it in the future.
@@xdeathbydesignx 🙏
@@xdeathbydesignx Yes sir.
Same, back then it was so hopeful, now all I see is hopelessness . We’ve fallen so far behind where we were then, we’ll never catch back up, at least not in my lifetime.
Amen. We need to get back to at least respecting our differences and embracing the diversity that makes us strong and unique.
This song was from his movie Jazz Singer. The story basically was about him wanting to be a performer instead of a cantor in his father's synagogue. I have always felt that the song was about all immigrants, but specifically about Jews fleeing Europe.
People...CARE about your freedom, don't EVER take it for granted. VOTE.
Here, here!!!!
This is part of the great movie "The jazz singer" with neil diamond
We would play this song on our aircraft carrier when we were approaching the home port after a deployment. Classic Neil Diamond song.
We need more patriotic songs like this. We are blessed to live in this country.
We need to remember that we are all Americans regardless of politics… we need to learn to live and love each other again.
Amen to that
Not anymore, too many illegals forcing us to learn their language, with their hands out draining our SS system. Racial hatred abounds not only hidden found in the police and judicial system. Political infighting kids gunned down in their schools. And they say we are blessed to live here!
@@jennybeard6341 Right, I hate the terms African American, Asian American because it is dividing up Americans.
@@xdeathbydesignx
I could not agree more! Moreover, unlike the flag-shaggers, acknowledging your country’s history - warts and all - is a sign of a true patriot.
I'm Canadian and I'm 48 , we grew up always loving our big brother America , it hurts my heart bad seeing younger generations not loving America and this song needs to be played every day at every school and college , love it or leave , America is the only true free country in the world.
I saw Neil live in concert. He came on stage at 8:15 and didn't leave for over 3 hours. When he walked off, the music kept playing, and a couple minutes later the music started for America. When he came back on, the entire audience got to their feet, and we sang along with him. The building was actually vibrating with the sound of the voices and the clapping. It was amazing.
Yes AMEN He came to Pittsburgh's Civic Arena did this song O M G !!!!!
Your lucky I tried twice and couldn’t get tickets
Hell yeah 💯
Have to many of his Chicago concerts. The last concert was his 50th Anniversary concert, which was cut short by his diagnosis to Parkinson’s. So blessed to have been in his audience so many times. Hands sore from clapping, never sitting, singing along with every song. He gave it his all…three hours passed so quickly….always sad to see it end!🔥❤️💎
2024 🇺🇸
"America" was from Neil Diamond's 1980 movie debut, a remake of the 1st U.S. talkie "The Jazz Singer" (1927). It was Neil's 47th charting single peaking @ #8 in 1981. Over his career, between 1966 -1986, Diamond charted 55 singles on the Billboard Top 100, 13 reached the Top 10 including 3 #1 chart-toppers.
My Louise is an underrated track from that soundtrack.
Well I guess I must be wrong I believed it was written for a cartoon movie between the micekowitz family and the Katz family. You seem much more knowledgeable than me in a great way. I believe when he sang it in concert he spoke about this cartoon movie. I also know he did it for The Jazz Singer. Please advise I want to know. Thank you and happy fourth
The Jazz singer also starred Sir Laurence Olivier, If I'm not wrong that is him at 3:19, maybe he got free tickets.
@@jomac2046 Yes! Such a prolific songwriter - not to mention the many great songs he wrote that other artists had hits with.
@@jomac2046 This video is from the end of the movie The Jazz Singer. Yes that is Sir Laurence Olivier sitting next to the woman who plays Neil Diamonds wife in the movie.
Neil Diamond's voice is transcendent!! Please check out "Love on the Rocks" also featured in The Jazz Singer film he starred in. Other greats include: Morningside, Both Sides Now, Sweet Caroline, Play Me, Forever in Blue Jeans, Song Sung Blue... so many hits!! Happy 4th and keep smiling!! ❤️🇺🇲💙
Yes! I'll also add Cracklin' Rosie, Kentucky Woman, and of course Brother Love's Traveling Salvation show. That last one was lip synced perfectly by David Spade in the comedy 'Lost And Found' which Amber would really love to see. :)
Love on the rocks is great one!
Agreed. Plus Solitary Man. Happy 4th Mike.
@@junglejim5785 thanks!! Back at ya!! 🎇🎆✨
@@junglejim5785 I still have The 45 Record of Solitary Man. Oh Man, I'm Old !!! LOL
A genius song writer.
Neil was referred to as the Jewish Elvis. Neil was quite the introvert and very shy…said he became a different person onstage.
Jay/Amber, his "Sweet Caroline", "Song Sung Blue" and "Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show" are next for you!!!
Great suggestions.
@@kbusby4824 thanks
Who doesn't sing Sweet Caroline at the top of their lungs?
@@CenterPorchNP Psychopaths. That's who.
This song was the finale of Neil Diamond's movie "The Jazz Singer", and has always been a trademark song for him.
He performs this song at every concert. He wrote it for his grandmother who came to this country by boat when she was 11 years old. He always displays her picture on screen during his performance!
“Solitary Man”, “Cherry, Cherry”, “Holly Holy”, “Cracklin’ Rosie”, “Song Sung Blue” & I bet you’ve heard “Sweet Caroline”. His 1st two live LP’s “Gold” & “Hot August Night” (there’s also a Hot August Night ll) are great listening.
"Song Sung Blue" ... Now that's a song I haven't thought of in a dog's age...
Neil Diamond is an American classic. He has one of those voices that you immediately know when you hear it!
I'm sure everyone wants you to react to "Sweet Caroline" EVERYONE sings to that song.
Oh yes ...bom bom bom 😁
My Favorite lol
Crackling Rosie
Neil Diamond is an American Icon!
My Mom is named Caroline, so we have always loved that song.
I'm a proud Canadian but I've gotta admit, y'all got it all over us in the patriotic songs category! While sometimes Americans are seen as over the top with the patriotism, I also think we are not as outspoken enough with ours. Like with most things, somewhere in the middle there's the perfect balance of pride & humility. All in all, I'm glad y'all are our neighbors!
I don't know man, y'all got Martina Ortiz Luis blowing me away with "O Canada." 🥲
Thanks neighbor and thanks for CFL football to hold.me Over til NFL season.
Same.
@@SaxyLament I lived in Canada for 21 years and I love "O CANADA" more than I do our National Anthem. O Canada, is beautiful and a lot easier for the general public to sing. You have to have a great range in your voice to sing the US National Anthem which, I believe, is why MOST people don't sing it at public events. I LOVE Canada and all my children were born there.
I only been to Canada once.....The Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal. But it was beautiful country and the people were wonderful. 🇨🇦🇺🇸🏁🏁🏁
This is from his movie,The Jazz Singer…you would love it! Have been to many of his concerts, and he always dedicates this song to his grandma who came by boat to Ellis Island when she was 11 years old!🔥❤️💎
I attended his concert that he performed in my City Port Elizabeth, South Africa!! I loved it, but even though he didn't sing the song 'America', just being there was an experience of a lifetime!!
My favorite part of this movie was when he sang the Kol Nidre as a cantor for Yom Kippur. Something that is dear to me after the attacks by Hamas after Yom Kippur this year. 😢😢
My favorite of his is Solitary Man . . . beautiful and moody.
What an absolutely fantastic choice for your 1300th video!!!! Congratulations, Rob Squad! Here's to the next 1300 more! I just happened to see Neil Diamond in concert in 1981 after he put out this album (my first live concert EVER, with my parents), and it/he was spectacular. I would love to hear you react to "Holly Holy" in the near future. It's my favorite song of his. If not that, then "Solitary Man" or "Cherry, Cherry", which came off his breakout album in 1966. This song, "America" was off the soundtrack to the movie "The Jazz Singer", which Neil also starred in.
I saw him on that concert tour, too! And it was a great show.
What are you talking about...what a great choice for the 4th of July
@@kathyastrom1315 How old were you (if you don't mind my asking)? I was 11. I saw John Denver (also with my parents) the following year. Two years after that, I went to my first concert solo (The Cars).
If you've never seen it, I highly recommend the movie "The Jazz Singer". The 2 people this video kept focusing on in the audience were Lucy Arnaz and Sir Lawrence Olivier, who co-starred as his girlfriend, and father, respectively.
@@Shrykespeare I was 15. My stepmom was a Neil Diamond megafan and we all went to the old Chicago Stadium to see him. I had already seen Little River Band in concert at the outdoor amphitheater Ravinia in suburban Chicago three years earlier for my first concert. My first non-parent-accompanied concert was Billy Joel in 1983.
The American Melting Pot is literally melting away😢
That song makes me cry. It is so moving to me. It makes me proud to be American and remember when most of us felt that way. Thanks for checking it out!
The 80’s were a time of renewed pride in America. This song very much fit the era. I love this song
A song that should mean much. My grandpa and his brother came here together in 1905 from Ireland. 12 and 10 years old. His brother sent back at Eli’s Island to Ireland for he had polio. Could not come back for 5 years. My grandpa worked brick yards and was homeless for years. Sent back any extra money to Ireland. He never regretted coming here. Told me hard work and never complaining helped him be successful and raise a family. Loved this country.
I'm of Scots Irish Heritage and adored my family, my children are now 7th generation Pennsylvanians. They gave me so much and truly created the person that I am today. I still tend their graves. God Bless you! 😁
Same with my paternal grandparents who came from Hungary. They met each other on the boat over to the US. My grandmother traveled ALONE at 13 years old and my grandfather did the same, he was 16 at the time. Can you imagine at that age going alone to a foreign country where you don't speak the language, didn't have much education and no job to go to? It was odd too, because when the met on that ship, it turned out they were from the same tiny village in Hungary but NEVER knew each other, because she was Catholic and he was Protestant and they didn't mix in those days. They married almost immediately after they arrived in America. They were extremely poor, both of their homes in Hungary still had dirt floors. This song ALWAYS reminds me of my Dad's parents, may they RIP along with ALL their children (3 girls and my Dad who was the "baby" of the family, he lived the longest, dying at 102 in 2020)
Not how they come here today. Just illegally cross the Rio Grande
@jom7604 Irish, also settled in rural PA and, over generations, owned thousands of acres to farm and sustain us. Three sons of the 1940's generation fought fascism in Europe. One lies in a grave in France. Coming back to the farm kept the shell shock at bay. Farming is very grounding. We love our country so much. My older brother fought in Vietnam. God bless America. Let's keep moving forward to a more perfect union. ❤
My favorite Neil Diamond song! As first generation American I can relate to my parents coming over on a boat looking for a better life. Happy Independence Day to all.
My dad was first generation American. We are a land of immigrants and we should celebrate them coming here, not vilify them.
@@marleneclausen30 Legally, yes. People need to learn that disliking illegal immigration isn't the same as hating immigrants.
@@marleneclausen30 Legal immigrants, absolutely. Welcome aboard, those who put in the work!
Third generation myself. Came here to escape Hitler. My Polish Great Grandmother was the only one who survived from her family. She ran as fast and far as she could till she was fortunate enough to come across some American soldiers who took her in and gave her refuge to NYC.
Sadly, our young generation(s) are being taught to hate America and label it as untrue things (like a racist country). What a lie. And they are being taught that socialism is better than capitalism. And they are being taught that it’s okay to take away our freedoms. Please, older generation - get ahold of your grandchildren and teach them the truth. It will be hard because they are surrounded by liars. God Bless Legal Immigrants. God Bless true patriots. God bless America.
When he wrote the lyrics for the song, some was base around his parents coming to America as Jewish immigrants to start a new life.
People love to hate on America, but even now "they're coming to America", it's still the freest country on the planet by far, love from the UK!
With a bit of luck it'll get freer in November!
Sadly so much of that hate is from natural born Americans toward immigrants. Ir's sad.
Don’t forget about James Brown, living in America, from Rocky 4. It is great. A real banger!
3:20 That is Lucie Arnez (daughter of Lucille Ball). She is sitting next to Sir Laurence Olivier. Lucie played his wife and Laurence played his father in the movie "The Jazz Singer." The movie is more a showcase of Neil's music than anything else. Neil's a so-so actor but the music scenes more than make up for that.
Don't forget Lucie's dad, band leader and singer, Desi Arnez. "BA BA LOO!" 😊
@@DianaJG8 Let's ba ba loo lucy!!
I believe Lucie played his manager. His character was married to a devout Jewish woman, and he wound up falling for Lucie's character when his wife would not support his musical dream.
Great movie.
☮️
@@IBGECKO I didn't want to give away too much of the story in case someone had not seen it. Thanks for the spoiler.
THEY COME....through the front door with RESPECT...
Neil Diamond's LP 'Hot August Night' was a top selling album. 1970's
Yesss!!! Please react to the movie “The Jazz Singer!” Love y’all’s reactions!! 🇺🇸
Happy 4th!! My mom introduced me to Neil Daimond at a very young age. He's a national treasure!! This song is a classic!
This is Neal at His very best. I loved how the camera was able to pick out some Hollywood royalty from that ginourmous crowd. The Lady in the red dress is Lucille Balls daughter. The Dapper looking Guy next to Her is none other than Sir Lawrence Olivier. Totally cool.
The new Neil Diamond Broadway musical is amazing!!! Highly recommended
This “music video” is actually a scene from his 1980 movie “The Jazz Singer”, and the two people in the audience they keep showing are characters from the movie. The older gentleman is Cantor Rabinovitch, who plays the father of Neil Diamond’s character, Jess “Robin” Robinovitch, and is portrayed by none other than Laurence Olivier. The woman is his characters music mentor and eventual girlfriend, Molly Bell, portrayed by Lucie Arnaz (the daughter of Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, Sr.)
Neil Diamond has a beautiful, deep baritone voice. So beautiful.
The older gentleman they keep showing is the inimitable Sir Laurence Oliver
He wrote this song in honor of his Grandmother who was an immigrant. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Neil Diamond is one of the greats
Neil Diamond IS the greatest!🔥❤️💎
Freedom’s light burning warm ….Neil is referring to the Statue of Liberty!
This comes from a 1980 film, 'The Jazz Singer' which was the only film Neil Diamond made as an actor (he won the Razzie Award for Worst Actor the year it was released). It was the second remake of the first "sound" film ever made in 1927.
The story revolves around a young Jewish man who has been trained as a cantor (who sings the songs of faith in the synagogue both solo and leading the congregation during services) by his father who is the current cantor and is getting old. The young man, in this version named Yussel Robinovich but goes by Jess Robin, is a singer who loves modern music (rock in this version) and he begins to make moves toward his own dream of being a songwriter and singer professionally, leading to a break with his father. The cast was Diamond, Lucie Arnaz, and the British stage and screen legend Lord Laurence Olivier...both of whom are seen in the audience as the camera cuts back to them several times during the song. Lucie is in a red dress, sitting next to Lord Larry (playing Diamond's father) in a dark suit, glasses, and wearing a yarmulke (the head covering worn mainly during prayer, in the synagogue, or during other rituals by those of the Jewish faith and outside of them by devout Orthodox Jews). This video is actually the finale of the film. Just about every song written by Diamond that appears in the film..." America" (which both opens and ends the film), "Summer Love", "Love On The Rocks", "Songs Of Life", "Hello Again", and "Hey, Louise" are awesome (I have the soundtrack on CD and on my Spotify). I actually really love the film as well. Is it a great film? NO! But, I still love it. There are also songs that are traditional Jewish songs in the film like "Hava Nagila", "Adom Olom", and "Kol Nidre" that Diamond performs that are just beautiful and moving...especially "Kol Nidre", which is only a small part, but is important both on the film (highlighting the themes of forgiveness and atonement within the Robinovich family) and to the faith, as it is performed at the evening service of Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement.
I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July!!! It is a fitting song for the day!!!
Even though it is over the top I still love the song and Neil’s showmanship.
I was privileged enough to see him in concert twice in the 80’s. His entire show was hit song after hit song. He’s a treasure.
Neil has performed this song on Ellis Island and at the White House on two separate Fourth of Julys!
Older gentleman in audience is Sir Lawrence Olivier…who played Neil’s Dad in the Jazz Singer. Young lady next to him is Lucie Arnaz who played the woman who encouraged him to follow his dream. Neil’s father player a Jewish cantor and wanted Neil to follow in his footsteps! This was the first time seeing him perform.
Happy 4th!!! This clip is from the movie The Jazz Singer, my mom's favorite movie. Neil played the son of a Jewish Cantor who had to defy the traditions of his religious father in order to pursue his dream of being a popular singer. Also, the girl in the audience that played his love interest was played by Lucie Arnaz, also known as Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's daughter.
Not many entertainers are honored with a biographical play about them before their passing. Beautiful Noise is now on Broadway. Went to Boston to see this okay. He is sooo deserving and humble! So good..so good..so good!🔥❤️💎
Yes, this is about the America that WAS. Inclusive, proud and benevolent. The destination of success! Now, there are those that want to build walls instead of bridges.
The video was from the movie "The Jazz Singer". Since you guys like watching movies, I would highly recommend watching it. On my eighth birthday, my uncle bought me a Sony Walkman, he had Neil Diamond's song America playing at high volume and put the headphones over my ears. I had never seen a Walkman before and when I heard the words, "they're coming to America' sang by Neil diamond, the biggest smile came upon my face. I'm almost 51 years old now and I still remember that birthday, that moment and that song like it was yesterday.
Always sold out arenas..three hours of Heaven..no opening acts..no intermission! I don’t think I ever sat at a Neil Diamond concert…”can’t stand still while the music is playing!”🔥❤️💎
Before the muse left him, Neil Diamond was another Hook Master. This is the kind of patriotism I appreciate, not of guns and defiance, but understanding and open arms.
The muse never really left Neil Diamond. I agree with you on his eighties output, but some of his most recent albums, 12 Songs (2005) and Home Before Dark (2008), were among his most critically acclaimed albums worldwide. Home Before Dark even hit the #1 spot on both sides of the Atlantic. Some excerpts: "12 Songs is a triumph: the sound of a master falling in love with his craft all over again". "Home Before Dark is an album of rare beauty, grace, and eloquence". I hope he will be able to release a last new album of original songs.
It took guns to help win our independence. That is usually the case all around the world.
And we used those guns in defiance of the British empire. Not sure why you feel the need to exclude those two elements that were critical to our founding.
💞 Well said.💞
Absolutely.
Wish everyone in these trying times would take the lyrics of this song and remember what made this country the greatest , it’s seems people have forgotten that it was built by people that came to America from other countries .
He tells the story of I believe his grandmother coming to America in one of his recorded concerts. A great songwriter and showman
One of my favorite Neil Diamond songs. My great-grandparents were the children of immigrants, and we were fortunate to grow up across the street from them and to hear their stories about their immigrant parents. That always made me feel closer to them and to all the immigrants this song represents.
My nana came to Canada in the middle of WWI wearing her life jacket the whole trip. My father came in the 50’s after WWII from England.
America. Has. Changed. Since. This. Great. Song. NOW. NOONE. WELCOMED
@@gloriamureau9542 You're not wrong. Even when my great-great grandparents came here, you were only really welcome if you came from certain countries (predominantly Protestant western European countries). Everyone else was treated as second-class or worse even then, and it's much worse now.
I was fortunate enough to see Neil in concert years ago and his performance and choice of songs was fantastic.
There’s a build up of excitement that todays America has lost, but still so many want to come and share; sort yourself America!!
Even though I am a huge fan of HARD Rock and Metal. Neil Diamond is truly an American treasure. 😁👍
I think this a beautiful and uplifting song. 💕
This song serves to remind us that no matter how bad we think things are here, people outside this country almost universally would live here in a minute. And it takes Neil Diamond to point this out…
I remember seeing this movie. His father thought being a singer for a living as wrong. But he got he father to be in the audience in this performance and changed his mind 😮❤❤️🔥🙏
This song makes me feel proud to be an American, we are still a free country.
Not just our ancestors. It is still true to this day! Such an anthem!!! I'm proud to say my parents brought us here in 1975 to find their hope and dreams!
From the movie "The Jazz Singer"! Put it on your Friday watch list!
Neil has performed this song on Ellis Island and on the lawn of the White House. He s ahhhhmazing!🔥❤️💎
My grandfather got on a boat by himself in Norway when he was 18 years old in 1916 and came to America to start a new life. He never saw any of his original family members again but he met a young woman and wed in 1924 and started a new family here. I’m forever grateful. I wished I’d have been wise enough to tell him that before he died in 1976. But youth doesn’t often lend itself to wisdom.
It's not one of his more commonly played songs, but Diamond's "Holly Holy" is one of his best.
Yes, “Holly Holy” is a must, the live version (Neil’s wearing a red shirt). The best four minutes of the critically acclaimed Netflix series “Midnight Mass” involved this song.
@@dlhunt3905 "Midnight Mass" made very effective use of the song.
Especially the live version off Hot August Night. It's electric.
Happy 4th Jay and Amber and Everyone. Neil Diamond has so many great songs to choose from. Of course there is "Sweet Caroline" everyone's first pick. Other songs that you should listen to would be "Solitary Man", "Cherry, Cherry", "Song Sung Blue", "Cracklin' Rose", "Love On The Rocks" and "Heartlight". There so many others but these will give you a variety of his songs.
As crazy as this country gets somtimes its still the best country on earth. God Bless the USA!!
Amber would love Neil’s country album…Tennessee Moon. Did duets with several country stars.
"America" is a great song choice for July 4th. One of Neil Diamond's greatest songs. Thank you for an uplifting reaction.
Yes 🙌🏽 Neil Diamond ❤️I saw him a couple times in concert. He’s so talented! React to his movie, The Jazz Singer 💕 also, some other great songs, Brother Loves Traveling Salvation Show, Soolaimon, Sweet Caroline, Forever in blue jeans, Holly Holy, Cherry Cherry, Shilo, Thank the Lord for the nighttime, etc.
Can’t go wrong with Neil Diamond. This song is such a beautiful song! 💕thank you for reacting to it ❤️
I echo "Brother Love's..." it is a real rocker!
My Father dragged me to a Neil Diamond concert years and years ago. But I have to say....he is the consummate performer.
Neil Diamond is a very special person/singer/songwriter indeed. I know he is suffering from Parkinson disease. I pray for him and hope he will be with us for while to come yet x
God Bless America and happy 4th of July everyone!
I don’t think I ever sat down at a Neil Diamond concert. Can’t sit still while the music is playin’!🔥❤️💎
Seen him in 1988...My feet Never Touched the Floor.
Andy Butt NEVER Touched the Seat.
My mom LOVED Neil Diamond. The anniversary of her passing is July 8th. I'm in tears. He brings me so close to her. In 1989, I got her tickets for his concert in Indianapolis. I got her close to the stage. He threw some roses and she caught one. When she passed, I had it put with her. She had it dried and pressed. Another favorite song of hers, of his was Brother's Love Traveling Show. Could you check that one out?
It's important to know that Neil grew up in Brooklyn, New York surrounded by sooo many of the immigrants who's parents and grandparents made those voyages, often under extreme circumstances yearning for that FREEDOM which we so much take for granted today.
If you've never been to Brooklyn, or seen Ellis Island... definitely a worthwhile trip.
Neil Diamond is so great. He was my dad’s favorite artist. Hard for me to listen to him without thinking of my dad. He’s got a lot of great songs to check out. Songs like Sweet Caroline, I am I said, Cherry Cherry, Make you feel my love, If I don’t see you again are just a few of his great songs. He also does great Christmas songs that he got permission from his grandma to do since he was Jewish and didn’t celebrate Christmas. Shows the kind of man he is. Respected his grandma so much.
YAY!!!! perfect choice for today!! This is from the movie " The Jazz Singer" a good choice for your movie channel. The two actors that were shown in the audience are Lucy Arnaz, and Laurence Olivier , who is one of the greatest actors ever. Olivier played Neil's father and I believe Lucy was either the wife or girlfriend. If you watch the shots of the father closely you can see that he is skeptical at first of his sons ability ,and as he sees the crowd respond he joins in.
Something about Neil Diamond and America... They just seem like a good fit on the 4th of July. Peace and Love to all today and always.
This was the scene at the end of his movie "The Jazz Singer", a top movie, a remake of a classic. If you look closely you will see Laurence Olivier in the audience who was Neil's Diamond's character's dad in the movie
Happy 4th of July Jay and Amber, and to your kiddos too! May you all have a fun, safe holiday! 🇺🇲❤️🤍💙
Gotta hear this song every fourth! Thank you!
The "move" you describe was the official poster for The Jazz Singer.
Elderly gentleman in audience was Sir Lawrence Olivier who played Neil’s father in movie. The girl was his love interest who encouraged him to seek his musical career rather than be a Jewish cantor.
The girl was Lucy Arnaz, Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz's daughter.
I absolutely love Neal Diamond. His voice and delivery is perfection. He's so smooth. ❤
American strong! Love thy Neighbor! ❤️
There is not one Neil Diamond song that I do not like! Shilo is spectacular, especially the stereo version.
The story of The Jazz Singer movie makes this moment more powerful. The man and woman they show several times in the audience are Lucie Arnaz (Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz' daughter) and Sir Laurence Olivier. Such a great movie, no matter what others have said. (Not here)
This video appears to be from his Movie “The Jazz Singer!”
There was a short scene where they showed his father (from the movie) in the audience.
This father wanted him to follow in his footsteps but He wanted to be a star. His father strongly disapproved until he came and saw the reaction of the audience and he had a change of heart!
Very good movie, rumor has it that it was based on Neil’s own life!
You should react to it on your movie channel!!!
This songs always gives me chills. Such a beautiful and powerful song.
Have seen Neil in concert every time he came to Chicago. As we sat waiting for the concert to start, two ladies came and sat behind us. They said I hope no one stands or we won’t be able to see. My niece and I just smiled! Have never sat at a Neil Diamond concert. Can’t stand still while the music is playin’. Three hours of pure Heaveb!🔥❤️💎
I live in a small community on the Gulf in Texas. We took a direct hit from Hurricane Ike in 2008. My house and 2 others were all that was left. Neil Diamond did some concerts and used the money to build 15 houses in our community for people who otherwise would never be able to afford to rebuild. He came down here and visited with the people. Way cool dude. I had been listening to his music all my life but I didn't know he was THAT cool!!
Neil Diamond/Song Sung Blue STUDIO VERSION. This song holds the record for being the #1 hit with the least amount of weeks in the top 40. With one week at #1, the song was in the top 40 for only 7 weeks! But during that seven week period, it was heard everywhere! Must Hear Good!
Nothing puts me in a patriotic mood than this song
You can't help but feel proud to be an American. Happy Independence Day. 🇺🇲❤️🇺🇲❤️
Neil has one of those timeless voices and makes singing flawlessly seem effortless...what an icon...👍👍
You know the song is going to be great when his vocals are backed by a full orchestra!
This song was released just after Iran finally released the American hostages in 1980. They were taken hostage when the American Embassy was overrun. It was an immediate hit.
I love Neil Diamond so much, tbh mostly because it's my mom's favorite singer of all time, so I grew up listening to him and now every time I do it immediately reminds me of my mom. Too many great songs to choose from, he's just that good!!
