One of the most underrated fish on the fly….It may sound silly, but I cover their eyes with my hand briefly before handling and they seem to chill out for photos and such a lot better…even if still a little green when coming in.
“Watch his teeth” 😂. Carp are my target fish around here now. Best fight and closest I’ll get to a redfish 4 hours from the coast. They get Huge..like your channel! Landed 30” yesterday on 4wt and had a bigger one last week. Hard to fish for 6” bluegill after those battles…but I will. Thanks Ben! 👍👌🎣
Thanks! 👍 I’ve caught some big Striper and Wipers and they’re great..but it’s over an hour drive, and usually need a boat. Smallmouth aren’t even that close. But can drive 5 minutes and fish for 30-40 pound carp from the bank in local river. The 10-15 pounders are faster and pull harder, big ones just lumber along. 😂 Now I’m targeting Lunker Largemouth before the spawn.🎣
We have a good population of carp around me, but I haven’t tried to target them with a fly yet. Seems like it would be a tough fish to get a fly in front of, and even tougher to get one to eat it! I’m guessing water clarity is a double edged sword. Clearer it is, the more you’ll see, but the more you’ll spook. Darn things get huge but think every passing shadow is going to eat them. The best population is in a local river, but it’s always poor visibility. Seen some giants in there though.
I have a better question, what’s the thought behind the kwan? Just curious what you’re trying to imitate for carp. My best guess would be to imitate some corn or moss to target carp on the fly 😂 Honestly, I would guess worm type patterns, maybe a small crawfish, to target carp.
Glamorous my a** ! It's inhumanizing to me .... I pass along two photos when you when I figure out how to do , obviously not here : few decades ago eh ? You and I and Harry went out, think Wyo or Wellington lake or ? I couldn't even touch the thing ...and Harry looks surprised .... (sent you email btw) Sue Kreutzer
Chatfield is about as secret as Deckers, and this video is DEFINITELY from Chatfield. Like, for sure. No doubt about it. The lake in this video is Chatfield Reservoir.
Chill out about hot spotting. 1) Ben is a UA-camr posting about where he is fishing and what he's fishing to a point he is going to need to say where he's fishing. I don't see people blasting the new fly fisher on hot spotting. 2) there are tons of books on fishing that give away locations. Check out "Flyfishers Guide to (state)." Are they hot spotting? 3) Even if someone hot spots the likelihood of the whole fan base going to that location is pretty low. The videos in which Ben goes somewhere special to him he doesn't say the exact location as he doesn't want to hot spot.
I got into my backing for the first time on my first carp last weekend so excited

Find your nearest wiper, or small mouth bass. You're welcome.

Love it! Wish we had a carp fishery like that near me. That would be the only fishing I would do.
Wow! Ben! That's a sick Moonshine rod you're using in the video!
How dare you.
@@HugeFlyFisherman or is that a Wade rod? I can't tell.
@@puristonthefly3308 whats wrong with a TFO mangrove?
@@nitronick1220 It's a joke, I have no problem with TFO.
"Carp fishing is just one on the things you can do in Denver when you're dead" Nice. Great movie.
Heck yeah, looks like fun.
Beautiful!
Not a bad day on the water. Carp can be freight train strong.
Carp are fun to catch... Good stuff..
Chatfield....Riiiiiiight.
Not fished for carp what a fight. Thanks for sharing the video.
That was awesome 👍🤘
Freshwater Bonefish ,,YES!!!!
8:40: rod tip coming loose, fish stuck in grass, chaos and confusion. Pretty much typifies most of my fly fishing experiences.
I might give this a go if I ever get that far up there. 💫
DITCH PICKLES ARE THE BEST *screams at screen*
Love the layout of that skiff! What make/model is it?
"Hi, I'm Ben, and I've got giardia!" Bwaahhhhhhhhh!!!!!!! (snort)
Cool!!!!!
Great video man.

What fly you’re using?
We have a lot of carp in the Niagara river and tributaries.
I’d love to battle one!
Good to know that I'm not the only one that goes fly fishing during conference calls.
What kind of boat is that? Love your channel!
I lost my shit over the into. “Hey I’m Ben, I’ve got giardia” 😂

Great vid! Chatfield looks fun. You ever go to Jackson for carp? I was there in June and it was ridiculous.
Is Jackson hard to fly fish from shore?
"Hi, I'm Ben. I have Giardia..." wins the internet. Funny stuff!
is there anyway to put a polorized lens on your camera so we can see what you are looking at and talking about
great video. Could you show me the pattern of this fly pls? it really works.
What is your set up for this type of fishing and what flies are recommended? Thanks for sharing
It’s pretty clearly stated in the video.
