Freespace 2 Soundtrack Mashup (3)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 вер 2013
- A complete Descent: Freespace 2 Soundtrack, with voice-over mashups from the audio files of the main FS2 campaign. Warning: it is filled with major spoilers. Most battle and briefing tracks, as well the voice-overs, are correlated with the campaign missions.
Update v 3.0: There were a lot of soundtracks missing so I had to redo this all over again. Used different software too, and some fraps as well for a change. Enjoy!
Images are in-game screenshots either taken by me or by the incredible HLP community. They are also loosely correlated with the campaign story as you go along the soundtrack. You will find most shots in HLP forum threads like this one:
www.hard-light.net/forums/inde...
The screenshots under the music "Credits" showcase the creativity of the HLP community, with spinoff campaigns, new ships, TCs, new gameplay and stories. I highly recommend everyone to take a look at them.
Descent: Freespace 2 is a game developed by Volition and distributed by Interplay, released in 1999. You can buy the game in Good Old Games if you are interested. The soundtrack was created by Dan Wentz.
Also of interest are the major graphics overhaul the HLP modder community has been able to produce time over time. You'll find a good guide on how to improve your game's visuals in these threads:

23 years later, I still love this game and wish an official Freespace 3 game had been made.
Yeah. I hear you!
25 years now - and ditto my dude
Listening to this (complete with voice overs) reminds me just what an incredible game this was. The music always felt so fittingly epic and the Shivans have to be one of the most consistently menacing enemies in any game ever. At no point do you ever really feel like you have the upper hand on them or they aren't still threatening.
Still is a great game and has been improved and many campaigns and even full games released based on it

Welp, sounds like time for another playthrough.
What an amazing game.
I said it once, now again, what an amazing mashup, even slightly better than the last one. How is this possible? :)
Very sad, that it gets only a few views so far
Most stuff on youtube is nothing compared to this quality, but hitting the millions of clicks.
Beside that, thank you very much for your effort and work and the upload !
Greetings
Freespace never dies, amazing score, amazing campaigns and an amazing game
It's so good! It's got that retro 90s vibe and somehow that sci-fi alien feel to it. Still holds up so well.
yep, a classic!
Thanks! I don't do it for the fame, I mostly did it because I liked it. I wished I had time on my hands so I would actually go and do original things rather than showcasing the brilliant works of others ;).
This Video is amazing! Thank you so much, i love them all. Remember the good old days, moments in another galaxy of pure dramatic warefare and questions... ADMIRAL AKEN BOSCH!
You rang?
Great work Luis. As a music video, this seriously kicks ass.
Luis, this is so good!
I'm glad you liked it!
The first minute and a half of the mashup is just terrific. You really get a feel of how impressive a GTVA battlegroup is, only to later find that the Shivans easily outdwarf anything the GTVA have.
+Snarks thanks!
This mashup perfectly encapsulates the Freespace series. 10/10
this game made me scared of cosmos like nothing else, at times it felt like a survival horror
also- Admiral Koth you fucking idiot- we are facing an acient enemy that nearly wasted our whole species and you're throwing lives of 10,000 good men away because of personal pride?
The Shivans were a good "beware the unknown" sort of horror villian. The fact we still know so little about them adds to their appeal
Absolutely excellent. Listening to the this while I redownload the MediaVPs.
be sure to grab the new mediavps 2014!
2024. Still the best space combat sim ever made
This is so epic, thank you for that mashup! ;)
This is fantastic, and a creative project. Thank you for taking the time and effort to make it. :)
This is really great work! Thank you very much.
...and that ending, what you did with the final track showing some of the projects of FSO, showing the continuation of Freespace that was left hanging so poignantly all those years ago...
+SaltyWaffles thanks that was the point ;)
This makes me almost imagine FS2 as a movie, though it lacks a main character and personal conflict, it still has an amazing and gripping story.
Cast Brad Pitt or [insert another famous action movie star here] and then it can still lack a main character :)
Still is a great game and has been improved and many campaigns and even full games released based on it

A movie would be so good if not FS3.
Great work, clearly a labor of love.
Thank you for your job!
A very good job!
Getting feels of a mix between the event horizon movie and command and conquer 10/10!
Excellent. A blast from the past.
i think this epic game needs more widely known to people
This is lovely. Will there be a FS1 soundtrack mashup?
Love it!
nice video bro, i subbed
what a useless thing to do lmao! :D I appreciate the thought, but I don't post videos anymore. Have a nice one.
Best fucking space music ever!!!
Halo's soundtrack had to have been inspired by Freespace.
This and FS1 where my favorite games growing up, I rebought them on steam recently only shit part is I can't see to get it running on a newer OS. I figure it's some kind of compatibility issue, but I haven't been able to fix it yet.
Only saw this. If you're still interested, go to the HLP website (more info below the video), where you can find very easy-to-install mods that will upgrade Freespace and Freespace 2 into modern videogames in terms of graphical and sound quality. There are also a lot of people there willing to help you in the troubleshoot section if you have any issues even if you don't install any mods whatsoever.
Heh, I spotted some Blue Planet in there. Cool.
Blue Planet, Sync, Derelict, Between the Ashes, Babylon, etc., etc., I was as inclusive as possible, for the work of the modders out there has been astounding. So much content!
Admiral petrarch... Same voice as the admiral in exo squad?
I have no idea, but Petrarch is voiced by the great late Robert Loggia.
Hey Luis I love this however I have a question. You put all the cutscene songs in but forgot the opener what's with that?
Good question. Iirc I never got my hands into a version of it without voice overs.
@@LuisManuelLealDias I dont know how you could but it does exist. Dan wentz posted his works a few days ago and he had a version (remixed) but without voices.
@@lordkoth6735 oh did he? That's nice.
@@LuisManuelLealDias yeah i dont know if that helps but i wish you luck.
Only thing that could be better is time stamps
omg you're right!
@@LuisManuelLealDias you should do that pilot
29:38 this sounds different than I remember it? Like the drums have less reverb
Hmm. Maybe. To me it sounds exactly as I remember, but you may have had a different sound setup, or something else may have changed. These things do make a difference!
@@LuisManuelLealDias Nope, definitely is different :)
The one here sounds like I'm inside a padded room.
The original sounds like being in a large hall.

@@RennieAsh That's very interesting. I'd have to collect the original files and check it out. That youtube video just sounds wrong to me, but you got my attention!
Yes, I've checked. We are both correct. The version you linked is the very original one, embedded in the game with the WAV format within the original VP files. I didn't use these. I used the MediaVPS mod which included the much better original quality soundtrack files, sourced from Daniel Wentz himself, who kindly provided them. The reason why it sounded as I remember is because I haven't played the original unmodded game for quite a while now!
@@LuisManuelLealDias how many of the files came in the better quality? From memory I remember only some were found?
Still is a great game and has been improved and many campaigns and even full games released based on it

Curse them Shivans......man wish they get up off there bums and make Freespace 3 already. I know you can do Missions of your own for that but still
There are not just a few missions out there, but if you actually check out HLP (google the site), they have made several instatiations of a sequel to FS2, I hope you check them out!
@@LuisManuelLealDias Well I had played one of them on my CD version of the Game. Which was Operation Templar
@@bradhedgehog12 well, check out www.hard-light.net/ if you have the time, I'm pretty sure you will be pleasantly surprised at it.
@@LuisManuelLealDias I saw the web site. On my steam account. Just wish they could of done it that I can subscribe to them mods. It’ll make it easy for me to get em like my Star Wars Empire at war game
@@bradhedgehog12 if you install knossos, it will do all the hard work for you, it's very neat.
