- If you are looking to improve your current build or avoid mistakes in your future builds, you might be interested in these tips and common avoidable mistakes people often make in a Path of Exile character.
How to make better passive trees by looking up builds on the ladder, upgrading flasks, pantheon and knowing which rares to buy and craft on as well as slimming down your character and focussing on the essentials are some of the tips mentioned. I hope you can make your PoE experience a bit better with this.

Let's see.
1 - Flasks; yup i fail to remember this.
2 - Pantheon; lol, in t16 maps and still haven't bothered to even open it.
4 - Upgrades; important to know, but the build shouldn't rely on them, when the build relies on an influenced (or double) mod then the build will feel crap until that piece has been obtained.
5 - Passive Tree; didn't know about the heat map, thanks, this should help me heaps.
6 - Too Many Mechanics; lol all my old builds that failed.
7 - Follow Guide; best way to learn, follow exactly, choose one within a realising budget.
9 - Giving Up and Rerolling; my current biggest issue, there are so many builds I want to try and its so tempting to reroll, but that's not how you get rich or kill end game bosses.

I failed my Dual Wielding Lacerate Gladitor build previous league. So I started Harvest with different type of this build (Shield + more bleed stacking + no crits). And now I really enjoy because I killed Awakener for the first time farmed ton of currency and still upgrading my boy with double influence stuff (ty Harvest for make it happen to me).

Omg can you imagine starting to theorycraft at the start of one league only to look up and see another league has started by the time you're done.

2. When divine vessels start dropping again, i'll start upgrading the pantheon
I got 2 yesterday doing T14-15-16 maps yesterday
But they drop. It's currency, so IIQ might help. Got a few per day at least.
#7 is great advice. Lots of builds can be completely fucked by changing just one skill point or item. Even after 8 years of playing I still only change small parts of builds for personal taste. People like Esoro do such amazing guides there's little reason to change much of them.
I remember last league wondering why my impale champion did no dmg then when I got some currency and went to buy some boots and gloves I realize I was using a Hrimsorrow 50% convert to cold and the boots that convert 30% to lightning and btw I was using the gem that says deal no elemental dmg. Damn i was blind

My favorite example of no 7 from a rl friend:
Me: Why'd you path all the way to get zealots oath?
Him: cause the build I copied had it
Me: why do you have zero life Regen?
Him: I went es. I don't need it.
Me: umm ok.
I meaaan, if you're playing ED, you want ZO for the ED regen to apply to your ES (as it's technically regeneration)
So if it's that kind of build, and considering how common it is these days it might be, it could prooobably be that?

using path of building community really helped me understand where the power/defence come frome. the game doesn't provide enough detail on what's going on when switching items/skills
These are good tips, I used to struggle with some of these so I think they will be helpful. I followed a guide and wasn’t exact for Rf and it wasn’t working. It was Demi’s safest lemon. Now after years I have improved it after getting it right. With much more damage and adaptable survivability then even his original build.
Likes and Comment are good for:algorithm. Yoji is good for:lowering stress levels, increasing overall fun, memes, extended friends and family, PoE builds, UA-cam quality, having a good day, your pet, human psychology... :D

Overflowing Chalice is a very common result for the beastcraft unique flask from Einhar. It’s likely many players very first unique flask.
whats the point? people should also not use Veil of the Night
even if it would have been their first unique helmet they got. absolut dogshit trashtier stays absolut dogshit trashtier. get the alchemy shards and get something better.
It also drops like candy, probably the most common unique flask that can drop.
@@frufo61 Thats not how people that are new to the game see it my man. They see 'unique', they think its amazing. I had a friend playing a cyclone slayer impressed that my champion was much tankier than his slayer (at act 7-8, there shouldn't be that much difference regardless of ascendancy) then I figured he was using Crown of Thorns (and he used blood rage) and some other shit tier uniques just cause he thought they were better than rares

I used to have each and every single one of these problems. I fixed it by uninstalling the game!

To be honest, i started this game because the design promised many ways to play, but the way trade and items work, this is is only true after
you are rich and with thousand hours on your belt.

Ive seen CA builds dropping dot multi for proj damage lol. Even saw someone running bane linked with multiple curses without any additional curse picked anywhere. CI vaal pacters too. There is a lot of opportunities to fuck up in PoE
@@botondhoos4648 This is the #1 thing I see when helping people with builds as well, I linked a dude baker's bleed roa build and he removed the bloodletting and red storm wheels for the lethality bow crit nodes.... the build uses RT
I did it with Divine Ire and Atziri's Promise, went full lightning convert and was confused where are all the damage from Atziri's Promise at.
You forgot to mention vaal orb on jewels for things like cannot be affected by corrupted blood, silenced, etc. Makes a huge difference in gameplay and flask selection.

Some pretty good tips here. Keeping in mind which mod you should be looking for for future upgrades is definitely something I should be doing but wasn't. Looking at similar builds on poe ninja is certainly very useful.
5:42 PLEASE do as he says, i am tired of people who come to me and says that they followed one of my builds and that it sucks only to find out that they are not even using half of the items i recommended lol
Someone copied my face breaker build didnt use face breaker gloves... he asked were his 10mil dps was I can only imagine for you guys how bad it is
I think part of the problem is that the items you may have recommended were rare items they could not craft or weren't available. I know that's true with builds I tried to follow, there were items essential to the build that I spent a fortune trying to craft and could not find on trade. For that reason, I tend to use builds that depend more on unique than rare items, because most generic uniques are guaranteed to be available, even if expensive.
I'll give you an example, I'm looking at a build now that has a helm with:
150% increased effect of buff granted by stone golems, +3 socketed minion gems, socketed gems support by lvl 18 minion life, +99 life, +44 fire res, +44 cold res, +44 light res, minions have 21% increased life. Good luck getting that!
@@annereilley4892 lmao no good starter build well need a helmet like that or any well crafted items. At most you might need something like a tabula for maps and that's it. Good league starters mostly rely on cheap but strong unquies in league start no reason you cant get them
@@ragingnep Sure, but I didn't mean for starting, I meant for a final build. You can get by at the start with just about anything, starting builds has never been an issue. There's nothing in my post to suggest I meant a starting build, how did you get that impression?

This helped out more than I thought it would. The points of trying to do too many things at once and giving up too soon im extremely guilty of. Every single league. I started with a penance brand elementalist and felt squishy in maps, so I rolled a rf jugg and felt like I killed too slowly, so I rerolled again to a Generals cry chieftain w/ consecrated path(which honestly feels like a balance of the 2 and is kind of interesting) and I've only been playing this league for maybe a month now.
I need to start investing more time into a character instead of rerolling at the first sign of trouble and wondering why im always broke.
Inveating time to one char its still. No progres league will reset anyway

This video kinda inspires me to make a few tutorials even though I know I dont have all the answers, but what i do know holds value. I've found most of the videos I search for on UA-cam are made by foreigners or is very easy to get lost, or both. POE education is a hard thing to tackle. Simpler breakdowns are like this is what players need. 💜
Made my first char into lvl 70(still getting into the basics). Basically, there was a loud "DOUGH" on the start of most of these tips. Thanks!

How to learn tips №1 & №2 the hard way - go underground. At some point every build will encounter hard mods, which can be bypassed via flasks immunities or reduced by pantheon powers. It can be 1ex build or 100ex build, it can be depth 200 or 1000 - sooner or later your "powerful" char gonna be butchered. Delve provides strong challenge, its great a way to explore your weak points.
btw, surprised not to hear about ailm immunity - i think its quite strong layer of defence.
btw delving is really good for your char progression. after pushing delve as non zhp build for some time, i accidentally discovered that i don't need to dodge shaper's slam anymore.
Playing the game for 6k hours now. Made a CI COC build like every other league. After i craftet almost every influence item i needed, i still only had 4k es. Took me 4 hours looking at gear/ Tree to figure out that Acrobatics Node on the Tree has 30% less ES..... Even with decent game knowledge you make common mistakes. Great Video :)
Flasks:
taking things a step further
suffixes are usually interchangable because they jsut grant an immunity, so jsut go for suffixes you dont have yet. good immunities are bleeding/corrblood, ignite, poison and reduced curse effects (because auras constantly apply the remove curse on use is bad) and if you roll a good prefix you can jsut slap any one of these on at einhart
item level matters for what prefixes/suffixes you can get
You can buy baubles for 8 whetstones at any blacksmith
scour to make white (only ciosts 4/32 whetstone per white flask)
i allways do this with high level flasks form the ground, when fixed up they can sell for ~30 chaos. ones with just a desirable prefix I can usually slow sell for more than prefix+suffix because they can get the suffix they need form einhart
again, thats 1 scour, 4 baubles,(32 whetstone) 1 transmute,~10 alts for the prefix/prefix+suffix you need then enchant the suffix at einhart, shouldnt take long
most high knowlege players dont dally with this stuff, but your average joe and starters can make a lot of chaos early on jsut by doing flasks in downtime while waiting for replies and its a bit of fun cheap gambling.
But Yoji, #9 is direct cause of the huge randomization of drops. When you don't want to trade because you actually want to progress on your own or are SSF, and especially if you are new - you have no idea what to grind, some things randomly kill you...you don't have damage...you just feel like you have no control or purpose.
Harvest is the first league I stayed with my first character(first time I killed Sirus) and actually feel I progress. I don't care that it's "too powerful" or "too easy to craft"...it should be. It is stupid that only the top 10% can actually engage in the RNG crafting and all others are just left to the stupid "not AH"...AH

Harvest crafting will remain for future leagues, it just wont be as op and easy to craft crazy good gear constantly anymore since it wont be main league mechanic.

@@AximVidya it wont in its current form, but definitely will be implemented in some way. No denying that, they have talked about wanted to add more accessible crafting to the game for a long time. I wont disagree harvest currently is a shit storm in how way op it is, doesn't mean it cant be changed/adjusted to meet their goal while not breaking the economy at same time.

I was "inspired" by an arc build last season. And loved it. I wanted to go a completely different route and tried a strength tectonic slam build. For a lg. Portion of it I was like how does these even get on the list of great builds. I get one unique. And BOOM!! DPS and crowd control is a breeze. Following a guide is key. I agree with you. Thanks for the vid also

The first time playing this game, I made a reckoning / riposte / whateverelsechancetohitback
just picking up anything shield and defensive related stuff, with molten shield? can't remember it's been so long.
I had a lot of fun watching everything hitting themselves and ragdoll away from my character, probably should try something around that again.
i was building a Zombiemancer and following TbXie's build guide. Except I was super squishy and wasn't clearing as fast as I'd like. Turns out investing into a large cluster jewel and not Glancing Blows and +%Life, and adding skeletons, phantasms, blight instead of cyclone, and my other ideas for gems was the problem. After watching this video and deciding the follow the guide faithfully, this improved my survivability and clear speed a great deal. Thanks ItsYoji!
Apart from the poe.ninja these tips are for mapping level of the game rather than how to avoid mistakes im currently making or working towards.
Explaining passive tree bait nodes or how things actually work rather than the descriptions work would be better, the overflowing cup bait was good but thats not easy to get early on when mistakes could be avoided

7:20 as a “new” (not actually new but I play VERY casually so im still horribly shit at this game) player let me explain:
A lot of new players dont understand the value of flasks.
They often also have duplicates (I ran with 2
Health, 2 mana, 1 speed flask for the longest time). Or just not a lot of good flasks.
If they DO have good flasks (or follow a guide) they think “well flasks are good but the only weakness is that they migt run out of charge. So ill take this this other flask that helps keep existing flasks up easier so its kind of like an infinite loop of never running out of charges”.
Also forgot to mention: we suck at flask
Managment because we are so focused on dodging and it sounds/feels ridiculous to mash 2,3,4,5 every 10 seconds.
I only learned the value after an experienced player told me to bug an atziri’s promise for a divine ite build and told me to spam it. It instantly fixed both my damage and health recovery problems.

oddly enough i seem to fall into some of those mistake so thank you. for the info will fix some areas
How to spot a crappy build:
1. Has Rotgut and Overflowing chalice equipped.
2. Has 3 life flasks 1 mana flask 1 quicksilver with no prefixes or suffixes (or ones that don't work for the build like attack speed on a caster), and life flasks cap at lvl 42.
3. Has no life on items and is not an energy shield build.
4. Has multitude of active skills with 0-2 support gems on them and no "main" 5-link or 6-link.
5. Fills out every passive point in the starting quadrant and doesn't branch out. That also leads to having maybe 40% increased life from passives tops.
6. Does not get required stats for the build to function (for example a cast on crit build with 20% crit chance and no cooldown reduction).
Number 9 is so relatable. This league I started playing a miner build without ever playing any mine builds, heck I didn't even know the difference between mines and traps. I still have no idea how some mechanics like traps or brands work at all, but that's beside the point.
When I was leveling up I decided to straight out invest into ES gear despite the guide stating that I should go to life gear first and later transform into low life high ES build. I managed to clear the campaing pretty easily after I learned how mines work, and how absurd the dps can be, but I was quite squishy, having about 2k or 3k ES, low life, and chaos damage did go through my ES which killed me quite a few times in many rituals. First bandaid solution I used was CI, but I lost a bit of damage since I couldn't use my health to reserve one aura. Yes, one aura, since I didn't have Prism Guardian back then too. I just kept on grinding nothing but tier 1 maps first so I could have some stockpile of resources to progress forward while I was leveling myself and my gems up. Well at level 74 I dropped a random Void divination card, which gave me Shavronnes wrappings. How goddamn lucky is that? I felt like I've been touched by Steelmage or something...
Well after that initial kick of luck, I found multiple exalts and about 200 chaos orbs in 3 days just by running mostly tier 1 maps, and then I decided that it would be high time to take the next step and start buing the uniques my build more or less needed, my ES jumped up to 5k and I probably tripled my damage output so I was able to jump from running t1 maps all the way up to t12. I was able to run all the way up to t16, but my damage was lacking a bit, but just more grinding up levels, learning the build throughly how it works, getting my body armor 6-link and some other minor gear upgrades, and now I'm at 7k ES which is still not much by tanky standards, but the build with those uniques caps out around 8k.. More importantly, the only end game fights that have caused some trouble for me are Uber Atziri and Sirus, but that's just problem with the player, the build can handle anything.
Not to mention my build isn't even complete yet, but I'm at the point where the guide kind of ends, and I have to figure out my own how to progress. Well, one last thing according to guide that I'm missing is taste of hate, but to get that I'd need to give up poison immunity flask. I have all resistances capped (including chaos, lulz,
Al-Hezmin goes Reeee) so maybe losing poison immunity isn't that big of a deal. Of course there's always room for improvements in gear, for me mainly it's better Crystal belt and amethyst ring, but I'm just stuck because Augment Chaos modifier just isn't showing up in harvests, and I'm not even sure if that kind of modifier does exist.. Still if I get that, I can get chaos res on my gloves which will cause a domino effect on my having gear upgrades one after another. I really don't want to give up on my capped chaos res :D

I do sometimes mess with build guides but when I do I always tell the guide creator why I think it will benefit the build and ask if I've had an oversight that will break the shit out of the build before actually applying the changed :') You'd be surprised how many (written) guide creators actually respond to open suggestions and questions on their builds. After all, if you did manage to find an improvement they could adopt it into their own guide and everyone gets smarter in the progress. Also usually changes I tend to make are minor stuff like movement skills or budget alternatives and not really keystone passives or ascendancies which are far more likely to actually break the build.
An example of this would be Assassins Garb vs Zodiac Leather. Oftentimes if you pick a full evasion base you will already use enough dexterity to make up for the extra requirement on the Zodiac Leather. So if your character is not struggling with movement speed you often pay a lot less and even get a little extra evasion in the process. Movement speed is of course also related to your ability to dodge things and your clear speed, so in the long run Assassin's Garb will be indeed the better investment. But for a player on a tight budget, I really don't think it's worth the difference. If you need the 3 months a league lasts to farm the currency to complete your build, just save the few ex this way and spend them on some more damage or defensive stats (whichever you lack most). You'll be able to clear higher content earlier and you'll make your money back that way instead of clearing content faster. Odds are if you're struggling that much to make currency you won't be using the +3% movespeed (6% total cus I see no penalty in tooltip??) efficiently enough to make it worth your money anyway.

I like this video, Alot of others are about 5m dps easy key 10k life, I don't wanna dominate the game I just wanna play and access all the content. Lots of ideas here I can look at especially the item and tree lookup.
Good video. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'm playing cold DoT elementalist this Crucible league. Don't know almost anything about the game, just reached tier 15 maps but I'm dying so much. Can't even level up (I'm lvl 91) cuz any pack of mobs in the map can just one shot me if i make a mistake.
But i didn't know about the pantheon, I'll go after it, perhaps it's what it needs to build to stop fkin dying every 3 minutes damn
An off topic but i think a needed one, could be possible ti do a tier list of builds based on how much time per day or week one has?not all players are pro and helping casuals it does help the game.Much love❤

My friend was complaining about his build. No life on half his gear and playing melee. 4 flasks with bleed but no freeze or warding. 2 life flasks but no lions roar or at least a basalt. Using a staff but didn't take any block nodes or glancing blows. 23% phys damage reduction and 6% block attack chance. Says he was following a guide. Guide has way different gear.

I just started POE,had many years in Diablo2. I see there is not much pvp in this game,the pvp I saw beeing in a boring arena. The pvp was heart&soul of D2,the strugle to get better and better items was to be good in pvp. The thrillness when I get my first "enigma"...the open pvp games,it was super fun. The poe seems like a good game but lacks in pvp,so...what is the point in all of that? Just to clear maps and bosses faster?

This video is very true, I couldn't kill uber and blamed the build. Then someone pointed out I didn't have any immunity to being frozen. I made that change and went from unable to do him to farming him.
My buddy had a build that wasn't really working for him so I took a look and noticed the build used a bunch of fortify nodes but didn't use fortify, upon further inspection the build guide had a 2h weapon 6l double corrupted with socketed gems are supported with fortify. Since he didn't have the 50EX for that weapon I told him to put fortify in his 6l. He was kinda set up for failure on that one.

Still need to finish my pantheon but I started work on it since the main problem of my build is survivability and pantheon is free defensive nodes. And without even finishing upgrading them I stopped dying every 5 maps so it work. Upgrade your pantheon it's worth.
(Now my problem is an hardware one since all my recent deaths come from a freeze on a legion or delirium. With 2 fps it's not easy to dodge anything)

Got me with n°8. First time I played a few years ago, I got overflowing chalice in like act3. Thought "wow a unique and 40% increased damage, this is some OP shit" and proceded to keep it until I rerolled.
My 2cents to supplement this, as a player that appreciates SSF, but crawls back to traders who are sometimes dead from the neck up: If you have the tabs or tab space in a tab, set aside found flasks and gems with quality there! Misc. quality(superior) flasks and gems can be vendor recipe'd for GCPs and baubles (iirc, its 40q quality TOTAL/minimum for one GCP/Bauble). wiki for more info.
Hillock isn't always going to slot into research hideouts, but make that roid-rage wall a boss if so. He's got IMPRESSIVE LUNGS.

i rerolled as an ice shot deadeye and had a blast leveling, but i hit a wall in T1 maps and I didn't know why because I had already my endgame weapon and armor, with links. Turns out attack based characters get a good chunk of damage from belt and amulet, i was just too lazy to get temporary 1-3c rares. I also got resistances and life everywhere. Another problem was the passive tree as most poe ninja ice shot characters are using HH, Farrul's Fur or dex stacking uniques.I used all my refund points to get crucial nodes. I went from struggling in T1 to thriving in T12 in one night and now i can do T16 after leveling up.
That's nice. Ice shot doess need a bit of gear to really shine in the latest stages of endgame though.
Number 10 is the single most important tip for new and seasoned players to really push a character to the max.

so many of these are so accurate it's kinda insane, I started my first character as an ED contagion trickster, then i got herald of agony and though it was cool, i stopped scaling chaos, and went into poison, then got a really good armor unique (belly of the beast, i was new, dont judge) and transition partially into armor, then i hit act 5 and innocence 1 shot me over 10 times in the fight
I feel that. I am working on a weird abyss jewel character that started out as a bow build but turned into dual-wielding ax build before the end of act 1. Then it went to minion act 3, back to bow act 5, and finally back to ax before the end of act 5. I am now set on a Flicker Strike Abyssal Jewel Build. Unfortunately, I died about 20 times against both innocence and kitava and had to do the kitava fight 3 times. I dropped my Tabula, Wanderboots, and Resist Helm for armor and life magics. I also had to temporarily switch to Double Strike because there are no minions in the fight and I deal 0 damage because of skill cooldown. Then act 6 has all of the elemental monsters and my ele resists dropped 70% in act 5. I had to give up a little DPS and movement speed to set my jewels to resists. Once I hit level 53 I will get a nice DPS boost because of my abyssal helm, and when I can drop my mana regen ring I will be able to add another resist ring and set my jewels back to damage. All of that happened in 2 days. I am just hoping I have a decent endgame DPS. Right now I have ~1.5k thanks to a clutch corrupted two-handed ax. Also, I am a scion build and most of my passive tree is just pathing to jewel sockets. I picked up a couple Frenzy Charge and life nodes. I have 1k base life with no buffs so the life node should buff me quite a bit when I get it filled out. At the end of this I will have like 20+ Jewels because of cluster Jewels.
Another tipp i could give is getting multiple layers of defense. (Example: cast on damage taken defensive setup, cold damage, dodge, block, blind, a lot of life/es, etc.) One mechanic alone is not enough modt of the time. It allows you to have failsaves and to run better maps. Oh, and just keep playing around in path of building to see what items/nodes could give you more damage/defense or what is unnecessary. Never trust the ingame damagenumbers! They are horrible.

for the gem : a corrupted level 20 quality ~20 is generally cheap.
you can buy one for your main spell at around 5 chaos.
I actually was lazy with my flasks until yesterday when my friend inspected them and inspired me to buy cinder flask and unique ruby flask. Which made my build even more viable. I still need to fix my pantheons though...

Thanks for the video Yoji, as a newish player I appreciate all the help I can get. I am having a much better time in Heist just by focusing on one thing and slavishly following a single guide, but I do have a genuine question. Basically all of my gems will hit level 20 at the same time, how do I manage the transition to 20% quality - do them a few at a time or just take the hit and grind lower maps again?
It depends on if you are playing an attack or spell build. As an attack build I usually just tank the temporary hit in damage for a short while as it is not as steep. Maybe drop down a few map tiers for now. Gems level back to level 17ish really fast in maps anyhow.
On a spell build support gem flipping usually works just as well as I mentioned for attacks. But the active skill gem with your main spell on it usually would mean a too harash damage loss. Therefore you usually level several gems to flip all but one for your main spell. This is generally also a good idea because you eventually want to vaal your spell gems to hopefully get a level 21.

Corruptet 20/20 gems are cheap.
Don't craft items until you have enough currency. There is good gear quite cheap in market.
my biggest problem in HC POE is that unless I'm playing a Marauder, i never feel like I can get enough damage and life to climb out of white maps. Every character has trouble with metamorphs and with bosses, but ALSO isn't tanky enough to survive those fights. It always feels like launch D3, where I cannot clear T1 unless I already have good gear found in T2.
Yeah I know people who have blindly copied a build without understanding where their damage or defence is coming from, therefore cannot fix these when they hit a bottleneck. A good list!
I usually have the issue of too few life (I like to start with Archer or Shadow) and thus being pretty squishy until i hit a certain benchmark of avoidance. :D

a lot of build guides fail to provide a ranking of what's TRULY important for the build, yet there are a thousand things they recommend. if you make an hour-long video but without highlights on what's truly important, of course people are going to miss something.

My 2 biggest issues: Time and not using flasks as often as I should. But when I copy a build I'm too lazy to change it up or don't have the time to but either way I'm not gonna blame the build because I can't remember to push certain buttons.

I totally need to keep tip 6 in my mind...
This league I started a champion because I wanted to try out the new warcries with the new impaler keystone and a strong and slow one hit skill... so I went with vigiliant strike. And to do something while the cooldown is active I put in dominating strike, so I also did a minion build and minion builds need auras... Quit early I already thrown away the impaler keystone... cause it is useless crap. You need to hit for sure every 4 seconds with your strongest attack and a high roled damage. Vigilant strike with 3 warcries (ancestral, rallying and intimidating) could do that, but you need to time everything, and if you do it perfectly most bosses already lost half their life with the hit if they haven't killed you while building up the warcries.
So I stick to normal impale and played this way up to act 8 with level 66, when i noticed that I haven't yet reached any minion cluster in the templar area. So I decided to screw the whole idea and go with something that works.
Now it is a classic and boring impale cyclone champion with a two handed axe, herald of purity, pride, the stance auras and both banners. And I nearly throw away all the warcries except my personal, instant "fortification warcry", and I have fun
what? mixing things is the best and most powerfull! raging, rampage, impale, spinning bayblade skills is awesome
Tip number X: Be wary of our map mods! If your character lacks damage it's a bad idea to roll enemy damage reduction mods - and if you have a squsihy character, don't roll increased enemy damage mods.
Another mistake that people do : Follow a random poe.ninja build without knowing how the build works.
There are a lot of people following poe ninja builds, filter it by the highest dps and just follow it. Little do they know it is a warriored build for dps numbers in poe ninja, that has absolute 0 defenses and not reliable.
Also I noticed a lot of people that complain about not enough currency are those people play 10 builds a league and rerolling non stop. I have no objections if you want to do that, neither I will consider it a mistake, unless you are complaining not enough currency or being jealous of ppl getting mirrors.
Also number 7 : follow a guide is extremely important for new players. Dont skip a single word if you dont want to have any issues with your build and follow exactly what it is being told. As a guide creator I noticed a lot of people just throw in their variation without knowing how the build functions, come back in and ask why the build isnt working. When i check the build i cant even recognize if that's a copy of my build or not.
Also not all guides are great. Few key giveaways of a bad guide is
> not explaining why / how it is strong, not what it is strong as (ex. "UBER ELDER VIABLE DEATHLESSSS", why deathless? No explanation)
> trashing other ascendancies instead of why this over that (ex. Pathfinder sucks, instead of Why Trickster TR over Pathfinder TR)
> stupid pros and cons. This is a dead give away especially when there is 20 pros and 1 con, and the con is "ppl will be jealous of you".
> click bait titles, pretty much the same as clickbait thumbnails on YT
