    I’m confused. If we all convert our drops to currency then where does the currency come from? It’s gotta be dropping for someone right?

    • @buffalobaron
      @buffalobaron  6 днів тому +10

      @@1div2agent74 oh that’s an EXCELLENT question! I was wondering if anyone would ask, I didn’t go down that rabbit hole in the video because it would have way upped the complexity but it’s a great catch on your part, yes there is an apparent discrepancy in how I described it. Long answer incoming!!!
      There are several elements at play. For starters, there’s the fact that right now at this very moment you are probably in need of some currency which I am not. Maybe you need to 6 link something so you need fusings or a black morrigan, or maybe you’re crafting flasks so you need a lot of alteration orbs. So you’d be willing to pay for those, but I don’t need them so I sell them. Now multiply that by the thousands of players all finding currency and not needing like 90% of it. Everyone’s needs are different but everyone is finding SOMEthing. Just probably stuff they don’t need.
      So in part the answer to your question “where does the currency COME FROM” is “from all of us finding stuff we don’t need then using the trade market to get access to the stuff we do.” In this sense it’s just an illusion, you actually ARE finding the currency, just not the exact stuff you were thinking of. If I randomly find a divine orb right now but I don’t immediately need it to do a meta craft at the bench it’s going to sit in my stash until I need it to pay for something else, a piece of gear, or farming supplies or whatever.
      “But” (I can hear you saying) “But Baron, it still comes to the same thing! You still only FOUND 1 divine orb but you’re paying for a jewel that cost 30 divines! Where did the other 29 COME FROM if everyone is only finding 1 divine orb every once in a while like you? Sure the other people might have found essences WORTH a divine, but who the hell supplied that divine to them if everyone’s only finding one every day or two?? Who’s finding the other 29!?!?”
      And this is the part I’ve been sitting on, giddy to reveal the secret, because you’re going to love the answer. It’s one of those answers that’s so simple you wonder why it didn’t occur to you; but it just requires a subtle shift in the angle you’re looking at it, like one of those necker cubes.
      I’ll use two metaphors that I think will help shift your perspective (they helped for me anyways). The first is this: when you get a paycheck from work, did they CREATE that money, or was it on their ledgers previously, having already existed? Of course it’s the latter unless you work for the national government of a failed state. Whoever you work for got that money from somewhere else….but it doesn’t get DELETED when they give it to you, it just gets transferred to you. And I’ll bet you’re about to go transfer it again in exchange for housing, food, clothes, transportation, entertainment. It doesn’t get deleted when it exits your checking account, it goes to someone else who will ALSO use it for goods and services. The same dollar bill might have been used by a thousand different people to buy a thousand different things. Money in the real world is not regularly created nor deleted.
      The same is *partially* true in path of exile which brings us to the second metaphor. In POE currency creation and deletion IS actually a feature of the system (currency drops from enemies and gets used at a crafting bench or map device) but they tend to balance each other out. Both things are happening, and the relative friction between the two is what causes currency to hold a certain value relative to each other. In leagues where a ton of divines are generated by the league mechanic they wind up being worth fewer chaos, fewer essences, etc. Think of the ratio of creation and deletion like filling up a partially blocked sink with water. SOME water is leaking through the block and therefore draining out, but if the water is pouring in at a faster rate, the sink will gradually fill up anyways. That filling sink is like the supply of divine orbs. Some are deleted, some are created new, but there remains a large (and usually growing) overall supply. Even if every person in the game only CREATED (via drops) a single divine orb per day, that still means there would be tens of thousands just a week or two into the league because they don’t get deleted at nearly the same rate as they get created.
      If you could track the life of a single individual divine orb (which you can’t, they just get tallied as interchangeable numbers, but let’s pretend they work like real money with serial numbers) you might even find that YOU YOURSELF have “spent” and received the same divine orb more than once as it floats back and forth across the economy. Pretty wild eh?
      Does that make sense?

    For me the big things of importance are:
    1. Do only farms you enjoy, because if you don't enjoy it you are not playing a game, you are doing work. Also if you are not having fun you are more unlikely to put in 100% effort.
    2. Do only farms your build can farm well. Like if you have no single target damage you may not success and fun with super buffed essences or hate it so much you nope out and have to chug orbs you could have sold.
    3. Unless in early progression never run maps without scarabs, the difference is MASSIVE! Reminder that you can sell your unwanted scarabs and use the currency to buy the ones you need for your strats. Or if you are no longer chaos starved just 3/1 vendor the 1c Scarabs and hope for a expensive scarab.
    4. Use priced tabs and put all your stuff there. If nothing sells reduce the price the next day. If you get spammed by trade offers take a second look at the piece in question, something expensive may have slipped by. Also keep in mind how many premium tabs you have, you never want to run out of space, if you do your prices may be waaay off or you are guilty of playing garbage truck simulator.
    5. Unless you hate it don't give up on a new strat too early. You need to run lots of mobs to see a average.

    Great video. All the information was accurate and up to date as far as my knowledge is concerned. One noteworthy omission was betrayal, it’s barrier to entry is lower than t17 farming and with veiled orbs being 14+ divines each I would have included it for newer players because of the gear upgrades they can obtain quickly for their own build as well as the crafting recipes the unveils unlock. It is a critical step each league with a big jackpot item that is fairly reliable to obtain.

      Love that note! Yes betrayal/jun/Catarina/syndicate is a great suggestion. It’s free, can be done at any map level, and the majority of the “complexity” of the mechanic doesn’t even matter for the current strategy of just rushing Catarina (which is a little sad of course, but good for newer players). 100% concur with your comment.

    imo one of the good strategies early in league if you're lacking gear is to spend like an hour of spamming low level maps (if you're really starved you can run any story area that's level 61 or over) and jewellery delve nodes for like an hour with a chaos recipe.
    you do "need" a quad tab and some sort of tool for this strategy. (either actual software that scans the tab, can update your filter and tells you where to click to get your set of items, using scrolls of wisdom to block space so 2x2, 2x3,2x1 and 1x1 items are separated, or if you don't have a quad tab, a tab per item type.)
    it makes about 160c/hour, so a couple divines in the first day or 2.
    so you usually want to move away from it once you're making ~100c per hour without because it's a pain, and usually you can get a 5-6 link item and run efficiently.
    note that most strategies rely on having your atlas completed, so don't worry if you're not making a lot of currency while getting your atlas completed.

      @@satibel agree with all of the above, thanks for commenting! My tool of choice for a few leagues now has been chaos recipe enhancer. Makes the whole process fast and mindless, plus if you’ve got adhd like me it’s nice to take a 5 minute break every hour and vendor a bunch of stuff.

      but yeah 1-2 quad stash, dump everything, get like 10-30 sets in an hour, take 5 -10 minutes while making tea t.
      note for readers, when I say 160c per hour, it's counting just the time it takes to pick up and vendor, you're not making that per hour if you're just farming white maps with no strategy, you're probably getting like 60-80c per hour, highly variable depending on big drops, and like 30c from chaos recipe.

    • @Valkaneer
      @Valkaneer Місяць тому

      What kind of tool are you using to scan the tab? You really are making 160c an hour doing this? How fast are you going? Everything else throw it on a quad tab (I usually keep mine organised by rows, as I don't use any tool). You should be able to make at least 1-2 divines per hour early in the league by doing that, as you're not wasting time identifying and praying for a good item to sell... the chances are too low and by the time you find a 10 divine item, you could've gotten that or more by doing chaos recipy with unidentified.

    * Delve should be ok despite change to perfect fossils, graveyard crafting is gone and fossils+resonators will be needed.
    * Final strategy has been destroyed by removal of carto scarabs of singularity
    * Other strategies unchanged, but new viable strategies could include Ritual, Delirium, and Simulacrum based on changes
    * Map device can have 6 slots now, more scarabs could change or create new strategies
    * New league mechanic can be interacted with to gather resources and worry about figuring out how to spend them later, main profit will come from spending them in town.

      Thank you so much! I also have some extra good news to you that was not known to me (or anyone outside GGG) at the time I made this video. There is now an in-game "asynchronous" currency exchange system, meaning the two players don't have to be simultaneously online or in the same hideout to trade.
      Unfortunately I do not believe it allows cross-platform trading with PC but it is my hope that it should make console trading slightly less painful. It's worth a look; it can be accessed in the Settlers of Kalguur league by interacting with Faustus and spending the new non-tradeable global drop currency called Gold.

    I understood trade when i played ssf ironically. I understood how get power by myself, what is easy to get in early for my gameplay, how craft, how progress in atlas. Then i considered trade like another mechanic different. Specialize in something with this new know knowledge made me accumulate a lot of stuff to sell in bulk for a short time trading. Last league i was 20 div / hour in t16 with essences for a minimum invest (1 scarab was a little bit expensive 30 c if i remember well). Early league, people are not considering enough memories. Memories of survivor's guilt : Quantity can be insane in t1-2-3-4 (80% to 120%), i grab 1.2 fracturing shard per memory (4 maps) + a lot of annulment and ancient orbs and chaos (and alch in early), for 5c invest (memories complete atlas as well with same rules than map device). You can do essence memories in t6 keeping the map white cause modifiers can be deadly fast enough, memories with ghosts are very good for chaos recipes in early for ppl with no luck during levelling and near 0 chaos. Specialize is the key, sell in bulk. Low delve can be useful as well for chaos recipes in early and get money from resonators and fossils. It depends of what you like, your gameplay and what your character can do or not.
    Good advice btw man.

    One thing I would note about Blight that I think is important, is that if you plan on doing high investment high level Blighted/Blight-Ravaged map, you will need quite a beefy PC. Blight is my favorite mechanic and I have done it quite a lot, but I don't have the best GPU, meaning that I crash a lot on the higher tier Blighted.Blight-Ravaged maps. It would suck to be a new player and invest a bunch of points into a mechanic your computer cannot handle.

    Travic is the Blight expert, and he makes it sound easy, but it's not (you need at least 1-2 divine for ring anoints). Blight is also VERY VERY HARD ON YOUR GPU and PC, if you have crap video card you should pass on Blight.
    Without the Blight ring anointment's you need a strong build with high AoE damage. In fact, unless you are buying blighted maps you need a strong build to do just normal map atlas strats. Your not going to get blighted map drops if you don't blighted encounters in maps. If you don't have the ring anointments you juts won't have the damage with weaker builds. The mobs come too fast and have to much life if you invest points in the atlas for blight. This last league I failed almost every Blighted mechanic due to the build not having enough damage and having to be in melee range basically. A few leagues ago I asked Travic about failed maps and he told me, "Your build just doesn't have enough damage". You need explosive high damage to do a Blighted Ravage map, for sure, and normal Blighted maps you still need high damage and high movement. Your tower are not going to save you, though they will do most of the damage if you have both ring anoints.
    Blighted Ravaged with the high end anoints need builds with at least 5M dps just to have a chance, this is no joke, there is no towers that do enough damage to fend off mobs. You need massive damage my best build ever which could hit 5M never succeeded in a single completing a single Blighted Ravaged Map. I just couldn't see what was going on, there were so many tower and effects, this was before I upgraded my GPU too. It was like watching fireworks on a 360p monitor.

    Important to note about Alva: People are not looking to corrupt their gems or gear in the beginning of the league. So those temples will be small bucks for the first few days and then drastically appreciate in value over weeks as people start gunning for the perfect corrupts. To put it into perspective, expect perfect temples with both corruption rooms to be worth 20-30c for the first few days and maybe three weeks in they go for 2div. So it's a bad strategy to make money early but a nice side hustle later on.

    One of the problems here is you need certain builds to do certain strats. Really, builds must match the strat or you will fail to make currency.
    Harvest for example, a low dps or ST build is just not going to cut it, and of all these strats is one of the most dangerous save maybe Expedition. Harvest IMO needs some reasonable investment (a strong build) to pay off. I'm not sure I would call harvest a beginner friendly mechanic. Legion for example requires very fast map clear if you want to unlock it fully.

    I beg to differ about identifying items, at least in one specific case. At the start of a league, once you start mapping picking up and identifying rares is the most feasable way of getting upgrades. Remember, this is the stage, where you just killed Kitava, your life, resists and damage need improving, yet you dont have any currency to spend. You have to save your chance orbs, your alchs and chaos and vaals to buy maps off Kirac for progression, and aside from Rog I dont know of another easy way to pick and choose upgrades. Identifying a good mod here and there helps a lot with being able to push into red maps, where you can start grinding currency for trading.

    Great video, a lot of perspective that people need to hear!
    One thing I always have to remind myself depending on how much time I have is to have a goal. Even if you only play 30 minutes a day which I often am limited to, there are strats out there that work for you. It used to be Low Tier Essence farming for a lot of players like myself, but you can still do baseline Harvest farming without the investment and make around 5-25 chaos per map pending the rolls of the Harvests. I usually do a map in 5 minutes, so each night I make between 30 chaos and a 1 Div pending my luck that night. This really helps get a solid build together in a couple weeks allowing you to do most if not all content in the game.
    Another baseline strat that I like for those of us who do not get a lot of time to play is your third strategy and just build up Alva Temples for other players, it can be extremely lucrative and takes no investment. As you flesh out your atlas this can be paired with Harvest for 20-50c profit per map once you know how to build Temples properly.

      oh there’s nothing wrong with the so called “Oppenheimer” strategy (“extreme archaeology” keystone) it’s just not my personal cup of tea. Lots of players love the efficiency, I just prefer the precision of not using it. Totally personal preference. If you’re struggling with expedition it might be a good idea to go with the traditional placement method because this can help you learn which individual remnants you’re taking that tend to spike the difficulty. A lot of it can be build-dependent, like for the build you mentioned I’m sure it was catastrophic if you accidentally took “enemies immune to elemental ailments” since your damage relied on one: ignite.
      Actually I think you’re on a good track though, I do actually recommend powering through as much of the atlas as possible as long as your build can handle it. You really only need to stop and farm currency that early if you need build upgrades. You’ll unlock more and better strategies by completing your atlas and getting all your passive points. Your instinct was good, most experienced players focus on atlas completion ASAP.

My question is: if i feel comfy(maybe with a couple of deaths) , should i rush to t16s or voidstones if i can? or farm currency in a fast map tier (3-4 min maps) Question no2: i also need a source for crafting, do you have any advise? thx

      @buffalobaron  Місяць тому +1

      @@mberkerolcer All great questions, and for the record I still “feel out” how I want to progress every league, I don’t have super firm rules for myself.
      But in general, for question 1 I say yep. As long as you’re not dying more than once every 2-3 maps (or higher if your tolerance for deaths is lower) there’s nothing wrong with pushing T16s first. Atlas points are very valuable. As for voidstones, most players who don’t start with a dedicated bosser build or have god tier hand mechanics will get the first two voidstones themselves (eater and exarch) then pay for a carry for maven and uber elder (I usually see it as 0.5-1 divine each, easy to make in an hour farming low tier stuff). But voidstones are so good. Lets you run any map layout at T16, exponentially boosts chances of T17 drops, lets you sell T16 maps to other players.
      For question 2 crafting is a doozy lol. Honestly a dark horse contender here is just checking Reddit threads where people crafted something and looking at their steps. You’ll start to see patterns in the methods and logic. Zizarin and Subtractem each have some extended crafting overviews and Ghazzy has a “basics in 40 minutes” video, but honestly they’ll all acknowledge those are just a start. Following a build guide that includes extended crafting instructions is good for getting hands on experience. Alternately screwing around in craftofexile.com ‘s crafting emulator is a nice no-risk way to see how things pan out, the interface just takes some getting used to.

One of my favorite things to tell new players is “don’t try to drink from the fire hose.” Or at the very least “don’t be disappointed when you can’t get all that fire hose water in your mouth at once” since I know perfectly well this game naturally attracts people who WANT to drink from the fire hose.
      I’ll never tell a new player not to do research, that’s how I did it and that’s what I enjoy. But it helps to keep in mind that you won’t learn everything by next week, you can’t. Not even the smartest person alive with a decade of ARPG experience could do it.

    Now this is possibly a "very" silly question. Do all of these farming methods go through the mindset of building up all of the varying currencies such as Chromatic Orbs, Fusing Orbs, etc. over time? Or are these more akin to building up chaos (or divine) from trading league specific currencies? I always feel like I reach a plateau of where I don't understand the next step of progression once I'm able to reliably beat t16 maps so far after playing three leagues.

    • @buffalobaron
      @buffalobaron  Місяць тому

      @@MrDragon01 oh I don’t think that’s a silly question at all! You’re asking about a complicated and often vague process of transitioning from one collection style to another. I think that’s very understandable. Heck I still struggle with when to stop picking up various thing, it can be hard to put your finger on. One way that helped me think about it was thinking about the relative value per click in terms of chaos orbs. It’s a question of whether to pick up so-called “bubblegum currency” (small colorful and worth pennies) or not, and if not when do I stop doing so?
      If I pick up a stack of 20 chromatics, ok, that’s usually at least worth a few chaos. But a single chromatic? That usually becomes obsolete pretty quickly, it’s worth at most like a quarter of a chaos, and often substantially less than that. And you’ll see them dozens of times per map. I don’t want to add 5 minutes to my map clicking to pick up stuff totaling 4c. (Of course that might change this league with the more forgiving pick radius, we’ll have to see how it feels). I think a lot of people, once they’ve got that first 50-100c, transition to a system where they don’t pick up anything where the individual click is worth less than 0.7c (which typically encompasses Vaal orbs) or even just a full chaos orb. And you sort of escalate this principle depending on what you’re farming. If I’m doing high end scarab farming in T17s I’m probably not picking up anything under 2-3c at that point since the number of scarabs you find is enormous and you want to kill fast to hopefully get those expensive ones.
      To be conservative you could say “I won’t do an individual click worth less than half a chaos.” So individual fusings are out but stacks of any size are in, for example.

    One question about not picking up and identifying rares. From a global economy perspective, where do crafting bases come from then? Do you still keep an eye out for specific high value bases?

    • @buffalobaron
      @buffalobaron  14 днів тому

      Oh you're the kind of guy asking the right questions! Yes, PLEASE keep asking questions like that, it's uncommon in this game and this is what's going to lead you in the right direction.
      Crafting bases come from a variety of sources that DO, it's true, violate the "don't identify rares" rule. Frankly some of these are common enough in a trade economy that the source of them is "people who are not following the proper rules of efficiency and picked up too much", so you get the base for cheap and the seller technically shouldn't have picked it up at all. These are things like "the best base type for that class of armour because it has the potential to roll with the highest possible values of armour/evasion/energy shield, and this one actually did get that high roll." Even those, rare as they are, shouldn't TECHNICALLY have been picked up but you can benefit by buying them cheaply or buying crafted items from those who did.
      But a lot of crafting bases are what's called "fractured", a type of item that has one of its modifiers highlighted in gold. These items come from specific sources, they don't normally drop randomly, and they will have a special icon in the item title to alert you to the fact that it's fractured, take a look on the wiki. That "fractured" (aka unchangeable) modifier cannot be changed by any means so it is your constant, your rock. It is the literal base you craft on, often using methods that guarantee or bias towards other things you want, making it easy to start with 2-3 desirable modifiers (one guaranteed by being fractured and the other nearly or entirely guaranteed by something like an essence or a fossil) and go from there. So yes this truly does violate the "dont identify rares" rule for all players, it's a good idea to keep up with which mods are desirable as fractured bases, usually only Tier 1 modifiers.
      This could be a whole assed thesis so I'll stop there for now but this is absolutely the right question to ask, and if there is interest I can make a follow-up video on it or recommend other resources.

      @@jthnrbns I suppose they could occasionally drop from rare monsters which have particular (but hidden to all of us, so effectively random) modifiers, but a good loot filter will highlight those items even at stricter levels. Look at poewiki.net for “fractured item” and it will show you the symbol to look out for which appears in the corner of every fractured item.
      Honestly if your filter is strict enough then a non-unique item showing up AT ALL should automatically raise your eyebrow. (Unique items will sometimes show up “out of place” on filters because the game can’t distinguish between the very good and very bad uniques of the same base type, so it has to just show them all and rely on the player to figure it out)

      @buffalobaron  13 днів тому

      @@jthnrbns yeah so there are varied schools of thought on this, and I think most people would acknowledge that it depends a ton on your strategy and how far into the league you are. For myself I tend to start with neversink’s “strict” filter (which automatically adapts how strict it is based on area level so you can level with it and not worry that it’s only going to be showing level 83+ items. By the time I’m giving up the chaos recipe and moving on to a “real” farming strategy of some kind, I’m probably moving to neversink’s “very strict.” This could be right now for you, but it would be on the early end.
      After that, if it’s a league with an insane juicing strategy of some kind I’ll sometimes switch to Uber strict, but that’s only if you’re dropping more than 2 div of big stuff per map. I don’t do that every league. Instead I sort of home brew some modifications to the very strict filter which I kind of “feel out” based on what I no longer want to pick up. Usually this is stuff like stacks of quality currency, jewelers orbs, lower tier oils, fractured items on bad bases, even certain scarabs if the league is like last league where some scarabs got devalued down to under a half chaos each.

      @@icata12345 I’m a little behind my usual pace this league because I’ve been on vacation sneaking time on my steam deck but I can offer a few recommendations. Top one is to engage with the league mechanic early and often; it’s not one you can just dive into any time in the late game, the whole mechanic is building up the town. I might make a video on the process actually, but the town can give decent profit via shipping crops to Kalguur for currency and runes.
      Your friend is right that essences are perfectly reasonable BUT with the big caveat that recently GGG upped the difficulty so you have to do it in yellow maps or higher to get top tier essences, can’t do them in white maps anymore. So you need a slightly stronger build.
      Personally I’m an advocate for focusing mostly on atlas completion and first two voidstones while not doing too much with profit generation other then what your build strictly needs to advance to red maps; chaos recipe can help you here. I’d recommend low level delving or low level blighted maps (if you know how to do them) if you absolutely need 100c+ before you can run red maps. But otherwise just run maps, accumulate gold and ore for settlers mechanic, send crops abroad. Your first atlas tree can be focused purely on map generation and Kirac missions to help with atlas completion because you unlock extra skill trees that don’t require respecs at 50 and 100 atlas points accumulated. That’s when you can build new trees to focus on specific mechanics.

      @@LenzTL I think it’s a personal preference without a “wrong” answer unless you’re measuring your first few days in the league in terms of divine orbs made per minute.
      I happen to like chaos recipe at that early stage because it gives me something meaningful to pick up every map and it bridges the gaps that can be created by slightly slow RNG early on.
      I don’t think there’s anything wrong with someone who skips it, but my personality has always skewed towards “reliable and safe” over “risky, uncertain but potentially crazy.”
      And that’s what chaos recipe is, in moderation: it’s not crazy, but it’s predictable and it can get you to that next level. I think a newer player stands to do well by trying it out.

Somewhere around yellow maps (whenever the first filter starts feeling like it’s showing stuff I no longer pick up) I’ll switch over to a modified very strict filter. I’ve got my own idiosyncratic rules for which currencies and stacks I want to show, and it often changes league to league. I also make some changes to how logbooks and oils appear since I like that content and want the drops to feel exciting.
