Should facial recognition be used to fight crime?

Shoplifting has seen a resurgence recently, with members of the Government mentioning a number of different ways of responding to the situation. Thank you to Chris for stopping to talk about that response.
'In an effort to crack down on shoplifting, repeat offenders will now be subject to time in prison, with some suggestion that facial recognition software could be used on CCTV footage to help identify suspects in high street retailers. How do you feel about these new measures?'
