    The evolutionary incarnation of America's only true sports car. The base Vette with a carbon fiber hood and roof panel with the z51 performance package is an extremely hard show to beat. This brawny, sophisticated, well tuned piece of rolling muscle is a mega bargain. Bravo Chevrolet! looking forward to parking this baby in my garage. Good Tidings to all and a very merry Joyride!

    Such hatred among people that think they are "car guys." Most of you can't even afford a new Honda Civic (except for the one guy that always surfaces claiming to have an 8 second Civic). If you like the Corvette...buy it. If you like the Ferraris....buy one. I just think that is funny (or sad) that so many come on here knocking something they can't afford but would surely love to have no matter what they write.

    Have to disagree with low-tech. You don't see or get to play with too much tech but there is a whole heck of a lot going on backstage. Just the idea of magnetic ride control is kind of amazing when you read about how it works.

It's a professional in it anyway getting those times... If your rich you don't want that GM plastic crap... Thank god they stepped it up with the c7.

    GM should consider making Corvette a Brand and only make performance car model. the name of Corvette is so popular and full of racing history.
    CNG is very clean. I did a oil change on a CNG engine after 20000 miles. the oil is clean as the new one I put in. the only problem is the storage system is huge in the trunk compare to a gas tank. lol

    • @dethtour
      @dethtour 10 років тому

      exactly what i thought. like they should make this one. a mid engine hypercar, and some other cars ment for performance

    • @LOLKINGBABY
      @LOLKINGBABY 10 років тому

      Alejandro Garcia Why would they make it mid engine?

    • @dethtour
      @dethtour 10 років тому +2

      ***** because mid-engine is has a better center of gravity the transmission wont exceed the weight transfer. The new ZR1 is going to be mid-engine. Look it up. The ZR1 will set the way future corvettes are made. GM has been considering the mid engine vette for years but its expensive to change a factory to be set up like that. So the ZR1 will be the platform for C8 and production should be within 5 years. The ZR1 is said to be twin turbo and going to be at least 800hp and 750 pounds of torque. But the price for the ZR1 will most likely be close to 200000

    • @LOLKINGBABY
      @LOLKINGBABY 10 років тому

      front engine rear wheel can be made to be just as good if not better than mid engine. Perfect is example are 911's which are perfect.

    • @281cu6
      @281cu6 10 років тому

      *****
      The 911 is rear engine. I don't think they should go to the mid engine route, it's not meant to me some mid engine, hyper car, it's a corvette. Also, they've managed to balance the car beautifully in front and back these days, the transmission in the rear definitely helps. Just look at the Ligenfelter C5, they managed to get it to go 0-60 in 1.97 seconds.

  • @007ismi

    I saw the comment about not comparing to a Ferrari...well, Motortrend put them both on a racetrack and the vette was only .23 seconds slower...
    For that price and performance, it is a sick deal. I love Ferrari's, but perhaps they should outperform a vette much more than that for that price!

    I haven't been to Thailand in over three years, but they have been using the CNG for many years before the last time I have been there. The first few times I seen a taxi stop and get NVG I was wondering what they were doing. From what I understand is they could also use regular gas as well. The problem with the taxi's is there was a large tank in the trunk for the CNG, so there was less room in the back for luggage. It's seems odd that the U.S. is just starting to talk about this. But back in Thailand more than three years ago gas was still equal to more than $4 a gallon of gas. And the average earnings for the people there is much much less than the U.S. SO maybe the CNG was more economical for them.

    • @razvigor1985
      @razvigor1985 10 років тому

      In EU, CNG is in use more than decade.. in my country, taxis and most of population are using CNG or methane, because its half price of gasoline and low CO2, and you can buy it on every petrol station. :) Also, you can order a car with factory CNG or methane without compromising space for luggage, but y do with aftermarket system. :) Price to install CNG in States is way too high, here is 600-1500 e, depending on engine type . :)

      GroinFaceGroin carbon fiber is lighter than plastic and stronger than steel, that's why Ferrari uses it instead of just using a bigger engine like corvette,,its called technological advancements. . . oops,looks like somebody feels stupid right about now.

    • @GroinFaceGroin
      @GroinFaceGroin 10 років тому +3

      positivesecret Right because Corvettes don't use carbon fibre either right? By the way, Ferrari uses plastic too on their less expensive models. Carbon fibre on every square inch of a vehicle isn't simply needed on some cars. Deal with it sucker. Oh by the way, speaking of advanced technology, who's suspension did Ferrari borrow?

  • @MrNufzed

    Question?How many Ferrari owners expect to get say 40 000 trouble free miles?Haah!duup!
    And how many corvette owners will expect to get say 100k trouble free mile?Almost all
    I certainly did with the c6.(with the addition of supercharger:RE:50% more than stock and not one breakdown,and the one Ferrari- "my car can beat up your car" contest wasn't even close...with a Ferrari California.)
    So will the 'Tifosi' poleeze stop talking about 'build quality'.
    c7 better materials,chassis,interior than my old c6 and likely just as reliable and even higher build tolerance on a proven reliable performer.
    Not in anyway saying i wouldn't swap my old c6 or new c7/zo6 for a gorgeous 458.But lets keep it real world eh!

    re ohv design, leno pegged it on the nose. the engine center of gravity is lower with ohv. overall weight is lower too. if someone complains (not sure brian is), its usually a combination of ignorance and snobbery. someday, ohc will be replaced by a lighter, superior valve technology and mfrs will say, that ohc was evil due to weight.

    We have CNG filling stations everywhere in my country. And it is alot cheaper than petrol on everyday basis. Also it only takes about just under $1000 to convert into a CNG running car. And the petrol functionality is still available whenever you need it. All you gotta do is press a button and it converts back to petrol combustion. The only downside is that the CNG cylinders add weight to the car. Yup thats about it. I drive a 2003 Civic and it runs on petrol and CNG. Works like a charm.

    in 1989 Ferrari introduced the semi-automatic gearbox design, The electro-hydraulic system allowed drivers to shift gears by manipulating two paddles behind the steering wheel. Gradually, this invention has revolutionized the world of motorsport.
    The magnaride system is a GM invention and product, and that's a great thing, but you must ask yourself why is gm so proud that Ferrari borrowed there idea, could it be Ferrari is legendary?
    now tell me why gm still uses stick shift,

    Am I supposed to be impressed? You sound like you have a pretty high oppinion of yourself. I am familiar with the Mosler MT900. It has an impressive chassis & is a decent car when equipped w/ a GM LS motor. However, the fit & finish of the car appears poor & looks a little too much like a generic kit car. How about backing up your assertation that Ferrari co-designed or co-developed Corvettes with GM with some specific facts rather than resorting to petty name calling. Defensive much?

  • @G8GTJav
    @G8GTJav 11 років тому

    Ha. Just the opposite. I am a diehard GM fan & feel their designers deserve more credit. I get tired of fanboys acting like GM ripped off Ferrari when designing C7. And yes, I am aware GM had a partnership with Lotus as well as many other manufacturers. Lotus designed the LT5 used in the prior ZR1. In addition, I associate Pininfarina with Alfa Romeo & Lancia more than Ferrari. Also, the Allante & Brougham were garbage & not representative of sexy designs associated with Pininfarina.

  • @G8GTJav
    @G8GTJav 11 років тому

    The same guys who say it looks like Ferrari are the same guys who say rear end looks like a Camaro. The new design is instantly recognizable as a 'vette. Guessing the reason some people say looks like a Ferrari is because of fancy headlights &/or saw the showcar in red. By the way, Magnetic Ride suspension was first implemented on Caddy & then Vette & then Ferrari. Who's copying who? Also, Caddy Art & Science design looks nothing like Ferrari or any other manufacturer for that matter.

  • @G8GTJav
    @G8GTJav 11 років тому

    "Low tech in ways that work". What an idiotic statement. Nothing "low tech" about C7 or new LT1. Only implementation of DI on OHV V8 & has VVT, cylinder deactivation, & optional dry sump. Wise decision by GM because more compact, lighter, cheaper, & lower center of gravity than DOHC. GM heads flow more air with two valves than Ford's heads with four valves by the way. ALL new C7 is dripping with new tech (e-diff, airflow management, space-age foam insulation, tire temp sensors, 7-speed, etc).

  • @JesseEnclave
    @JesseEnclave 11 років тому

    For a performance car? It's phenomenal. Especially considering that real-world figures in the hands of owners have already vastly exceeded the EPA estimates, just like every other Corvette. Please, name one car out there with as much power/torque as the Stingray, or more, that gets matching or better mileage. Aside from the Porsche 918 Spyder, which costs some $900k and has a hybrid powertrain, there isn't one. Not even Porsches with LESS power than the C7 get mileage that good.

  • @77rxpharmacy
    @77rxpharmacy 11 років тому

    I like the new c7. But I'm one of those who wasn't a fan of the past few generations. For me, this new one brings a welcomed breeze of freshness -- just what was needed to win over a new fan. If or when I get one I want the 3LT Z51 7spd laguna blue with black wheels and red brembo calipers with body colored top.

    wish we could skip the gimmicks and jump right to full blown electric cars or at least turbo diesel hybrids then full electric cars for the norm. all this other stuff is just b/s. diesel hybrid turbo engines make so much sense and make great power. and electric cars would be selling 100% more if battery tech was better which will happen soon.

  • @914050
    @914050 11 років тому

    We have a lot of natural gas cars here in Korea. They are LPG rather than CNG though. The annoying thing about having two kinds of engines on the road is that you can't just stop at any gas station. You have to check if it is oil or LPG. I've driven one of the LPG cars before, and didn't notice much of a difference in range and performance.

    A "sportscar" with supercar performance at a very reasonable price. High 3, low 4 second 0-60. 190mph top speed. Remember this is the standard version. Just wait for the new Z06-7 and the ZR1. Remember the last gen ZR1 lapped the Nurburghring faster than an Aventador, a Zonda, and a Gumpert Apollo. allong with a host of other supercars.

    Interesting fact - taxis in Japan must be hybrid or CNG/LPG .
    In my country many drive on LPG (liqufied petroleum gas) . Conversion costs less than $1000 and tank goes where spare wheel used to go . It contains tank , pipes , evaporator and solenod fuel switch . Only problem is that you have a bit less pover (~5-10%) .

    No doubt about it, when it comes to value for the dollar the corvette is unbeatable and it provides exceptional performance with cars that cost 3-4 times as much. But its not a supercar. I consider a super car to be McLaren P1, La Ferrari, Porsche 918 etc.

    Good review, only spotted one mistake. In the Stingray, only 6th and 7th are overdrive gears(which kinda ticks me off, to be honest), 5th is a performance gear.

    In Europe its Imperial gallons which are different from the regular US gallons, so those European cars that get 40 mi to the gallon get like 33 in US gallons

    I'm sorry but i don't see an ounce of Ferrari styling in this car. Maybe you could say the side intake and extraction vents but Ferrari isn't the only one who does that.
    You can see this car clearly evolves from predecessors, by looking at the predecessors.
    What Ferrari does this car look like??????

      its not that it looks like any particular ferrari. take a picture of the front of a 458 or f12 and a picture of the front of a c6 corvette. the. take a picture of the front of the stingray and put it in the middle. the design principal of the stingray is closer to what ferrari is currently doing than what corvette has done for the last 2 or 3 generations

    Stunning automobile! The highest (reasonable) tech and most reliable sports car around. Puts the expensive European cars to shame. And 29 MPG highway. Wow!

    Why do you guys say "when we come back" in the middle part of the video? It's on UA-cam and not on TV with a pre-determined advertisement break slot...

    For supercars you left out the 1962 Chevy 409 with aluminum front end. Remember the old beach boys song "409"- "She's real fine my 409 ..."

    I could care less what Cnet says. A 50,000 car is far from a supercar. A real supercar is a McLaren P1, La Ferrari, Porsche 918,

    I never liked the look from the C5. The new is much better.

    Plus Europeans us a lot of turbo diesel setups to get their MPG, so that's why it's relatively higher over there.
